Quick question, does USC own Williams Brice Stadium? I thought they did, but a poster on another board says it's owned by the city of Columbia, what gives?

The stadium is at the fairgrounds, so the city may own WBS, like Legion Field in Birmingham.

I really don't know. It is called Willams Brice because someone with those names paid a large sum to the university so it must be the schools. I think?

The school owns it. The fairgrounds are across the street.

I think you're close...I believe that some families from Sumter YEARS ago donated the steel and concrete for the original stadium built on university property. Over the yaers it has been expanded during expansion projects. There is a hostory of the stadium down in the Hall of Captains or somewhere close to there, I think.

Actually, the name came from one person, Mrs. Martha Williams Brice. It seems that a bequest from her estate was used to expand the stadium in the 70's. Her husband, Thomas Brice, had been a football letterman in the 20's.

Irmo is correct and it's lock, stock and barrel owned by USC. Parking across the street is owned by the S.C. State Fair Assoc.
