DandyDon on LSU Running Backs...
LSU is loaded at the running back position with four running backs who could start for most SEC teams. The four are Joseph Addai, (6’0”, 210, SR), Alley Broussard (6’0”, 233, JR), Justin Vincent (5’10”, 214, JR) and Shyrone Carey (5’6”, 205, SR). In my opinion, Addai is the better of the four because he runs with power and speed and is an outstanding pass receiver out of the backfield, but I am just as comfortable with Alley Broussard in the backfield. Broussard is a very powerful, punishing running back who has very deceiving speed. Justin Vincent was LSU's best back two years ago but had a disappointing sophomore season. Vincent had a very good Spring and did a good job of impressing Coach Les Miles and Jimbo Fisher and will get plenty of chances to prove himself early in the season. Shyrone Carey also had a great Spring and drew praise from Coach Miles several times during Spring workouts. Carey will also see playing time on special teams. Jacob Hester, who also had a great Spring, will also receive some playing time as a running back. Hester is a very explosive runner and a good pass receiver. Incoming freshman Antonio Robinson, who will be the roommate of Ryan Perrilloux and Alfred Jones, will also be in the mix at running back but will most likely receive a redshirt year.

The key is for two of the running backs to distance themselves from the other two. You do not want four backs splitting up carriers. Most RB's gain confidence with each carry. While all four producing would be great, you wonder if the offense can stay in rhytem shuffling all those backs in and out. It is great to have the depth because of injury concern.

Well put OC! I think that is especially true in college ball.

Arkansas has one of the best RB stables since 2001. I can count 6 that we have, 4 of those are freshman and 1 sophmore, 1 senior. So we are going to be running over you others for years to come.

If a man can't stand, he can't run with the football.
Injuries will stop anyone, and it's still the best way to eat up depth.

I think that LSU has the best group in the league. UGA's are awesome, but the Tigers have the best blend of talent, depth, and experience. They are veterans of SEC wars who have been productive and it is hard to imagine a better stable.

Thank you both. I'm trying to be as "unhomerish" as I can, but daayuuum! We have real depth, speed, experience, and physicality at the RB position.

Arkansas always has a good running game. They're always in the top two or three in the conference in rushing and most teams in the conference have figured that out. The only problem the last three years for people has been Matt Jones. Now that he's gone, you shut down Arky's running backs...you shut down Arkansas..jmho.

Very true. A good post.
Bama also usually has a very good running game, but, of course, it is often augmented by a good passing QB and good receivers. Darby exemplifies their good running game for 2005 and Croyle their good passing game. I'm supposing that Darth Visor will continue the usual good running game at South Carolina, but supplement it with a good passing attack. Same can be said for Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida, too.

All of Ark's current QB's have the potential to be much more accurate downfield passers than Jones. This, imo, will complement our style much more than a pure scrambler did.

Absolutely. The Pigs might surprise everyone with a better all-around offense than in the past couple of years. Nutt, I think, is one of the better coaches when it comes to finding the talents of his players.
