Does anyone seriously stand an honest chance for the #1 pick in the 2006 NFL draft besides Matt Leinart?

Uh yes...

Personally I think Leinart is gonna get schooled this year. Believe me, Chow's loss will DEFINITELY be felt.

Adrian Peterson may go early depending on this coming season.

You really think Leinart, even without Chow, a (hypothetical here) second (or is it third?) National tital, or an over-rated season, Matt leinart won't get drafted as #1??!

I don't think it will happen.

Adrian Peterson will be a softmore next year.

P.S. I ment to make this a poll... could u uh, add one in for me?

Its also possible Vince Young from Texas could have a great year.

You think that Peterson will screw up ala Clarett? He's only a Sophomore so he lacks the required three years from high school under the NFL and NFLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

It all depends on Leinart's season this year, IMO. I'm sure he'll likely do very well though, so more than likely he'll go #1 (or at least no further than #5).

This season could either make his NFL draft one of the top in recent years, or it could put him in with the "average" star players. If he pulls off another spectacular season then he'll be on up there at the top of the draft, not to mention if he were to win the Heisman again. But if he passed up the 2005 draft and has just an "average" season this year, he'll likely get an average placement in the draft as well... just my opinion on it at least.

He can't. He will only be 2 years out of high school.

Vince Young WILL NOT be a QB in the NFL. He isn't a passer.

I still think he made a BAD decision by staying put. He would have left USC after winning 2 straight NCs and a heisman trophy. He would have been picked by the 49ers, thus staying put in California. He now lost his genius OC Norm Chow and his stock can do nothing but go down.

I agree though I don't think he'll get schooled so to speak. I think he'll struggle much more often this year than last, absolutely. Chow obviously was a big reason Leinart's played in such a comfort zone thus far. Southern Cal without Chow is like the Patriots without Charlie Weis. Everyone knows an integral piece of each team's puzzle is now gone; what no one knows is how exactly that is going to affect each team's play in the coming season. Most of all their star players.

As for who goes #1, over time it has turned into a need pick more than a 'take the best player available' pick. If the team drafting first needs a RB but is set at QB (example: 49ers), Reggie Bush or Adrian Peterson will go 1. If New Orleans slips once again to the bottom of the league, I'd bet my house that they'd ship off Aaron Brooks and take Matt Leinart in a heartbeat. It just depends on who's picking first and what they really need.

I doubt the Saints would bungle up the draft Ricky Williams style again. They need too much help on the defensive side of the ball to risk something like that especially since Brooks signed a long term contract in 2002.

Teams are willing to take a chance on raw athleticism. See Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb.

No no, I don't think they will either...I'm saying they are one or two injuries away from being as bad as the 49ers were last year and thus earning that #1 pick, not trading the city, all their draft picks and Aaron Brooks for it. :D

Misread it as them selling the house, oops.

There is and will only be 1 Michael Vick. He is a freak of nature that we will not likely ever see again. McNabb is a pocket passer with good speed. McNabb is no Michael Vick. Vince Young is no Michael Vick or Donovan McNabb for that matter.

Never did I say he was nor did I say Vick and McNabb were the same person. I said that teams are willing to take chances on raw athleticism and that's what Young has.

I never said you were wrong. All I meant was that Vince Young will not be an elite NFL QB.

Ok, we're in agreement here, you originally said he won't be a NFL QB which I disagreed with, but now that you clarify it as an elite QB, I'll agree. Although things may change.
