Top Game Day Venues

This week's list comes in response to one of the questions I get asked most often: what school has the best game day environment? Criteria includes stadium, crowd, atmosphere of the town, the scene, etc. I offer this up with one caveat. I haven't seen games at every school and there are five in particular that I would love to get to that have great reps (LSU, Auburn, Clemson, Texas A&M and Alabama.)
1) Tennessee: Awesome, all of it. The stadium. The Volunteer Navy. The Orange Stoli shooters. The scene. The barbecue at Calhoun's. Gotta give it to them. The Vols do it right.

2) Texas: Best college town. Everything here is eye-poppingly spectacular and yet still charming at the same time.

3) Notre Dame: The campus and ND Stadium more than live up to the massive hype. Even a skeptic would have to smile. Every football fan should go just to check it out.

4) Wisconsin: The Camden Yards of College Football.

5) Florida State: A great place for a football weekend. Tallahassee is a great mix of folksy and cool, and games at the Doak are always a good show.

6) Georgia: I haven't been to Ole Miss for an actual game (only spring ball) so I'm defaulting this place as the best "scene."

7) Ohio State: The Horseshoe, the dotting of the "I" . . . the whole place just feels like big-time mid-western college football. (Growing up watching the great OSU-Michigan games on TV, I had to have one of these tradition-rich places on here, and OSU wins out because it is louder. Much louder.)

8) Florida: I think the Orange Bowl is louder and nastier, but just for the FSU game. This place seems to be like that every Saturday.

9) UCLA: Yes, other spots are more rowdy and have a more collegiate feel, but the place the Bruins call home truly has to be seen to be appreciated. The drive through Pasadena to the jewel that is the Rose Bowl is unmatched in the sport. It's stunning.

10) Nebraska: The see of Red deserves special recognition as perhaps the game's most gracious fans.

11) Washington: Rivals the Orange Bowl and the Swamp on the noisemeter, and Seattle is one of the most picturesque cities on the beat. Husky Stadium had a personality all its own. Or at least it did till the program fell off the map.

Just missed the cut: Michigan, Va. Tech, BC, Army and Oregon.

I think the list is solid. The only thing I question is him wanting to go to a Clemson game at the fake Death Valley. I've been there a number of times and the WB on game day twice a good at that crap hole.

No way scUM is ever louder than the Swamp. No way....they have like 4 fans. UW and ND are too high.....f$U over uh-ga is a joke and UCLA doesn't even belong on the list.....

Should have waited to make a list until he saw l-essU and some others.

jk.....All teams have their good fans and their bad fans. No need to assume that one bad fan represents all fans of that team. Wish all UGA fans could be like you DJ. :)

Who cares what he said about your stadium, if you are looking for love and respect towards competing schools in the biggest sport in this region of the country, then you are gonna be pissed off the majority of the time.
I havent really been to too many stadiums, only Samford Stadium, Doke Campbell, Clemsons, and the Gamecocks. Obviously UGA's is my favorite. I would really like to see a game at LSU's. From TV and the College Gameday appearances, it looks like a great place to be.

There is the matter of that little, insignificant 3 million acres out in California though...

I like that he picked Tennessee. I know I'm being a homer, but the scenery is awesome with the boats lining up on the river next to the stadium. Not to mention the Vol Walk prior to the game where the players make their way to the stadium. Its a perfect setting for SEC football.

Nothing can compare to the Tiger Walk at Auburn ! They invented it !

The great thing about being in the south for Football is that there are some fantastic venues to view ballgames. There are many traditions that all fans should experience if they are fans of college football.

Super G...

Boy this hurts to admit, but you could not be more wrong about UCLA at the Rose Bowl on Game Day.

It is the only thing in the Pac10 that even comes close to the best SEC Game Day, but I will tell you that parked on Brookside Golf Course, deep in the Arroyo Seco, nestled in between multimillion dollar homes, there are few places that are far and away better.

As a half-breed Trojan, I will tell you it stinks to say UCLA is better at anything, this may be it.

The food is great, people are fabulous, and the scenery is excellent.

LA is the most fairweather town I have ever seen. I bet you half of the USC fans were cheering for Cabe McNown and UCLA a few years ago.

So, between the arrows on the pavement and the band members pointing the way, I assume that most of the team actually makes it to the stadium.

Let me just tell you... If you don't have Ole Miss at the top of your list, you may as well just not post... The Grove is the most incredible game day experience ever... If you haven't been... go. now. right now.

'Bama has an awesome game experience... The crowd is always loud and into the game, but as far as pre-game, the quad is nothing too exceptional. There is the Bryant museum, but I'm one of those 'Bama fans who thinks its about time we stop trying to revive the Bear every way we can think of. Post-game isn't anything special either. Always frat parties and drunk sorority girls sloshing through the bars, but once again, nothing spectacular.

I live for the game.
