AN IN DEPTH LOOK AT JAMARCUS RUSSELL

http://www.tigerreport.com/images/100_jrussell.jpgJaMarcus Russell is the future of LSU Football. Many people do not give him credit for what he has done. Last year was his freshman year. There is a big differance from playing in front of 1,000 people to playing in front of 93,000 people and being on national television at the same time. I personally believe that it is astonishing for a freshman quarterback to have brought us to the Capital One Bowl, who also had all the pressure in the world coming from us fans after winning the National Championship.

If he can do that much for us in his first year, just think of how good he will be down the road. Every player in every sport must be given time to learn his position. I believe that he has superior leadership skills especially after what he did. With all of that said I think Russell will bring LSU back to a BCS Bowl. Whether it's the Sugar or the preferable Rose Bowl, it would certainly be fitting if Russell were at the helm.

Along with all of that going for him he has one of the nations best, if not the best receiving corps in the country. Dwayne Bowe, Xavier Carter, Amp Hill, Craig Davis, Skyler Green, Early Doucet, Bennie Brazell, and with other position players like Shyrone Carey and Joseph Addai, will be very dangerous. Russell won't have to worry about the running game as Addai, Broussard, Carey, and Vincent will handle it with ease. All Russell has to do to succeed is perform to his ability.

We'll see. ;)

I also think there is more pressure on l-essU THIS year than last year....which may make things worse for JR.

No offense Geaux but I am not drinking that koolaid just yet. As for the writer to imply that Russell led LSU to their bowl well I think that is a bit of a stretch. Russell is a great athlete and very well may become a SEC legend. If Price or Shula had been the coach during the majority of his recruitment instead of asleep at the wheel fraud, Russell may very well be wearing Crimson today. He has all the tools to be great but he has to put it all together and learn to make better decisons. RTR

All I know is that I've noticed a lot of the best players in the SEC come out of the state of Alabama. That says something for the kind of High School coaches we have here considering we're one of the smallest states in the SEC in terms of population.

RTR!

Russell is participating in the Peyton Manning Passing Camp being conducted at Nicholls State College in Thibodeaux (along with, of all people, Matt Leinart) and the word on sports news shows is that he is very impressive. In an interview, he told a reporter that he had learned the LSU playbook forward and backward and was ready to use his brains along with his physical talents. Hope he really performs this year.

Think about it; Alabama high school football is good enough to help the state support TWO premier SEC teams, and up-and-coming mini-powerhouses like Troy and UAB. No doubt they play good high school football in Alabama!

Russell will be fine this year. With all the weapons around him, it would be hard not to. They say the most learning a QB does is in between the freshman and sophmore years. I'm sure there will be some games that he struggles, but by the end of the year, he will have more good games than bad. LSU gets a tip of the cat for keeping Jumbo Fisher around. Having some stability makes the odds of LSU's offensive success improve.

BTW Erik Ainge also participated in the Manning Camp :D

Geaux, you're discussion of JR sounds like us hoping we find a running back this year, lol.

Recent hearsay has renewed my confidence that JR will come to the forefront this year. He is, I think, poised to achieve real notoriety as a college QB. Maybe the boldness of Ryan Perrilloux has awakened him.
