Well folks,
I am absolutely, 110% f*ckin' pissed. How in the hell is Andruw Jones not the starting center fielder for the NL all-stars? Carlos Beltran? I mean, your name is more well known, but your numbers are mediocre in comparison. Beltran: .262 avg., 9 HR, 40 RBI. Jones: .280 avg., 26 HR(leads all of MLB), 59 RBI, and everyone knows that Andruw is arguably the best defensive center fielder in the game, maybe with the exception of Torii Hunter, but definitely a hell of a lot better than freakin' Carlos Beltran. Nice hustle on the double play ball you hit against the Marlins last night, 'los. I know no one here really cares except myself, but this is a freakin' outrage.

At least this has taken my mind off of 9/1/05, but GD I'm pissed.

The simple answer is that the voting system is a sham. A lot of these ballots are cast at games so a) more fans in the stadium, more votes for a team player and b) people just vote based on who they recognize once they get the ballot in hand. Then after that, you get every teenage and psycho fan to spam the internet polls voting for their favorite players. Why is Pujols starting over Derrek Lee? Name recognition. For granted Pujols has put up great numbers but Lee is just better and should be starting.

This is true, which also makes it a joke that the All-Star game now determines home field advantage in the Series. Hmmmm, I wonder if the AL will win? Oh yeah, I am so irate about Andruw that I didn't even think about Derrek Lee at 1B, what a force to be reckoned with.

The way it is determined is BS. It's a joke anyways. Even if the all-star voting was done fairly it still shouldn't determine home field advantage in the world series. I never liked rotating it either. I think the team with the best record should have the home field advantage. Why do they need to motivate these guys to play anyways? It should be an honor and they should want to prove they are the better league. If they have to find a reason to motivate the all stars to play more enthused then maybe they should just not play the freaking game.

Major League Baseball in general is a joke. The game has become so completely flawed in so many different ways, it's almost on par with WWF wrassling and boxing in terms of credibility. If it wasn't for fantasy baseball to get me through the summer, I wouldn't watch it at all.

Of course, a lot of why I feel that way has to do with the left side of the Yankees' infield making more than my favorite teams entire roster. Sadly, that is not an exaggeration. :(

MLB is a joke.

Isn't Jones the top HR hitter in either league right now?

I quit watching MLB back in 1995. When the players caused a disruption for the World Series, that's when I lost respect for them. Don't get me wrong, I used to be a die-hard Braves fan all the way. I still remember players like Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Glenn Hubbard, Phil Niekro, etc, etc. Since that labor strike, I have never watched or bought anything in relation to MLB.

Because the greed of the players, MLB is a dying sport and it's dying a lot quicker with these steroid scandals popping up all over the place.

In order for MLB to survive, they have to institute a salary cap, revenue sharing and fire the head of the players union Donald Fehr.

Only then will MLB have a prayer to survive.

I like the MLB. I do disagree with a lot of things they do though.

-I hate the all star voting. Nothing but a popularity contest.
-I hate how the All star game determines world series home field advantage. I mean shouldn't which ever team had the better record get the home field? Commen sense.
-I hate how the Yankees are able to pay so much to top players. I however think it is funny that with all the money they spend on the best players that they are 3rd in the AL East. The MLB needs a salary cap to even the playing field.

I was (and still am) a die-hard Braves fan. I remember those late 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's Braves' teams well. Even though after a month they were out of the race, I continued to pull for the Braves. I used to listen to their games on the radio (before they were on cable TV every day). I grew up idolizing Phil Niekro. After the MLB strike, I quit following baseball for a couple of years, but I did go back.

As far as the All-Star game, the fan voting is a crock (a popularity contest). I know they want the fans to have a say in who starts, but most fans are going to vote for their favorite player, or a player on their favorite team, without regard to whether he deserves to be on the All-Star team or not. I would prefer that MLB abolish fan voting and allow the MLB players and coaches to decide who should start on the All-Star team. They would be better at picking the players who deserve to be in the starting positions.
