Is there anyone other tahn me who hates University of Alabama?

The fans suck, and they know nothing about tailgating, and they haven't had a good team in 5 or 6 years.

What was funny is listening to the ESPN-2 commentators talking about the stands emptying at right before halftime. They couldn't fathom why people were leaving the game. :D

Ahh dj the voice of reason, I don't think that any actual fans should be categorized as bad fans because we all have some fans were ashamed of. Not to mention that nobody hates every fan of a certain team that they have ever come in contact with thats just a retarded statement in general. I haven't been on as of late to spread out rep points but when I do your next on the list. I will say this though, the only "bad" fans are the ones that don't come to or watch the actual games themselves and only support their team when things are going good. If anyone is on this board in the middle of the summer talking about this sh*t they are a pretty good fan. (yes I know it pains me to say, but even some of you SC guys included)

I can truly say Carolina fans are the best. Everyone loves to trash Carolina's history, which if you cannot see it has not been good your blind, but that stadium is still PACKED every Saturday. People have supported this team through the bad, now we are ready for a taste of the good. Question for any fans on this board, would your teams supporters pack a stadium EVERY week with that kind of history, year after year? For most, I believe the clear answer would be NO.

aww comeon, everyone has their rude and classless fans. from what i've seen (last 5 years of student tickets) we actually have among the classiest fans. ask oklahoma fans that came to BDS. we also never rush the field after the game, no matter the circumstance.

after having said that i would have to agree that SC has the most devoted fans. they haven't won anything, no tradition to brag about (sometimes it's why they make fun of teams which do have them  ) but every year they pack their stadium.

Damn right! Nothing else to do on Saturday anyway :D Cutting the grass and washing the wifes' car gets old real quick!

Fans are like apples, one bad one ruins the rep for the rest of them. Every team has fans that discgrace the teams they support and the institutions that they represent and USC is no different.

I took 30 students of mine to the Garnet & Black game and came close to putting my hands on a very inebriated fan for cussing out and verbally threatening my kids. Nobody does that to them except me ;) But the lesson I taught them by not whuppin that ass is (besides practicing what I preach) that you have to learn to ignore ignorance because it is everywhere that you go.

Most fans I have observed are good sports, but wear their emotions on their sleeves like the players do and sometimes when you are on the losing end of an emotionally charged game, some good natured trash talk can get things going in the wrong way in a hurry.

Being a band nerd for 4 years at State, and a fan since, I have had the privilage to go to every SEC stadium, plus Atlanta back in 98, and I can say this...

Growing up in Moody, AL... I was a vivid Alabama fan. pompous and arrogant and everything. This changed when I went to Bryant Denny Stadium as a band nerd for MSU. Never have I been treated so poorly in my life. I had an 80 year old lady cuss me out when we played UT for the SEC Championship in 98, but she was old and senile... Bama fans tried to poor their beer on me, threw those small whiskey bottles at me... we even got one fo the staff members fired for calling our female band director a bunch of nasty names from the field! I like Alabama football. I like Shula, and I like Croyle (if he'd stay healthy for once). But after that I will never associate myself as a Bama fan ever again.

I think the main problem with Bama is that a lot of their fans never actually went to school there. That means a lot of them are fair weather fans too because of it.

Here'a my breakdown of how all the SEC stadiums were...

Alabama - anyone who carries toliet paper and a box of empty laundry detergent to a football game puzzles me.

Auburn - Fans were very respectful. Had one guy give me some food when he was tailgating and we told schol history stories about War Eagle and the Cowbell

Arkansas - Very respectful; no food there, and got some SUEYS thrown my way, but that's part of it

Florida - ehhh half and half. Smart alecs on half, quiet on the other

Georgia - Great school! I love how the fans support the band and everything else that happens there

Kentucky - about like us... never realy accomplished anything at football, so they were just happy to be playing

LSU - THE BEST FAN BASE OUT THERE! Im not an LSU fan, but God I wish State fans would cheer like LSU fans do. 90,000 people doing that lil 4th down wavy thing you guys do, and shouting out Go Tigers and LSU when the band plays... you guys rock

Ole Miss - Honestly, Ive never met an Ole Miss fan I didnt like... besides Egg Bowl week, they've always been real nice... we usually agree that we actually hate Alabama more actually..

MSU - Rated one of the best tailgate places in the country by SI I think, or ESPN the mag. Go to StarkVegas on a weekend when it's not a team you're pulling for and you'll have a blast

South Carolina - all black uniforms kick butt! Fans were polite as well.. but this was Lou Holtzs 1st and 2nd year....

Tennessee - I got the impression that they seemed overall veyr pompous... like they were too good to even speak to the lowlife MSU band nerd... had their noses up to me all the time.

Vanderbuilt - About the same as us and UK.. they were just happy to be at the game.

Every school has it's share of billy bobs and morons. I go out of my way to make opposing fans feel welcome in T-Town. I have some ut friends that have had ballons of urine thrown at them in Gainsville. That is way over the line as is having oranges thrown at me in knoxville. Life is too short for the hate, enjoy the games and gameday experience and treat others with respect. RTR

And to think, everyone thinks Arkansas fans are a bunch of backwards redneck goobs. Don't you think the pig sooey calls and the hog hats validate that?

I was up in Fayetteville last year for the game and it's a beautiful campus and a great atmosphere so I'm not going to stereotype it like you. One bad egg doesn't make them all rotten. That one just makes you sick for a while and you hope whatever happens doesn't get worse.

Carolina fans are very polite and nice to opposing teams. The only thing I would caution against is that USC fans cuss like sailors. Be ready to cover your children's ears at the WB. South Carolinians in general tend to cuss alot. I think it's because we are such big military state.

University community hospitable to Oklahoma fans
Letter to the Editor
By David L. Boren

On behalf of the entire University of Oklahoma family I want to thank the students, faculty, staff and fans of the University of Alabama for the outstanding hospitality we received when we were on your campus for the recent football game. You have every right to be proud of your beautiful campus, your football team and its fans. We have never received a warmer welcome at any university.

The following is posted on the SOONERFAN message board by a Sooner fan who made his first ever trip to a game in Tuscaloosa.

Well, where can I start.

I guess I'll start by saying this.

1. Going to Alabama this weekend was the bestfootball experience of my life. By far.

2. 50 people approached me to shake my hand andwelcome me to Alabama. FIFTY.

3. 1/2 a mile from the stadium.....FREE PARKING.An official Alabama golf cart came around to EVERY tailgate, welcomed us, and gave us a trashbag to fill up and to leave for THEM to pick upafter the game.

4. Alabama venders all over selling 20 ouncebottles of water and coke for...............ONE DOLLAR. Confused as hell, I asked why it was so cheap and the lady told me, "It can get pretty hot, and people shouldn't have to pay$3 dollars to stay alive."

5. The crowd. Alabama fans know when to getloud and they STAY loud. VERY loud. They lovetheir team almost to a point where I develop concern. I think it's pretty safe to say, they wont be vandalizing a players' car anytime soon.

6. The SEC is a different animal. We can't even approach that. I can't even explain it.We think we love college football,.....they plan conceptions around it.

7. They HATE Auburn. Quite a bit. REALLY hate the aubbies. One of my buddies that drove downparked 200 feet from the stadium in an UA alumsrent house. The alums daughter lived there. He told my friend if he needed anything from thekitchen to help himself. He also said to makesure his daughter didn't have a bunch of guysin the house. As he offered anything in his fridge to my friend one more time, he said "good luck" and turned to leave. He took about four steps, turned aroundand as serious as he could be said, "nobody from Auburn goes in that house.......for anyreason."

8. Now before I get strung up, I remind you, I DO love OU football. I was raised on it. Ilove the Big 8/12. I just have never experienced that kind of atmosphere.

As I stared out the window on my way home from Tuscaloosa, I couldn't get one thought out of my mind.

I can't believe that places like UT austin and Boulder, Colo actually exist. It's embarassing beyond belief that they're in our conference.

Alabama football will be back. People who conduct themselves like they do,deserve and will receive an elite program.

Congratulations Bama,...

on being you!

The thing is, for every great letter you can pull out like that, there's just as many negatives views. It's the same for all campuses.

Ole Miss has an example from the super regionals this year. Every Texas fan on every message board has raved about the hospitality and the fervor that the Ole Miss fans brought, but there's one complaint from a lady who decided to go take her Texas clad husband and sit out with the drunk students.

The University of Maine got a standing ovation as their players joined the students for beer and girl gawking.

And personally, I haven't enjoyed my experiences at Bryant Denny. I've sat in the visitor's section, the main section, and the student section so I've been all over. Tailgaiting is pretty lousy and the fans are pretty obnoxious during the game. Especially when they boo the visiting crowd every 35 seconds for not doing the wave. The best thing I saw at a football game in Tuscaloosa...a man standing on top of his truck holding the satellite dish so the rest of the people could watch another game.

And for Tydefan, it's just an arrogant and egotistical statement made by a fan of a program dwindling from national prominence.

Again, the exception, not the rule. I've never had an altercation with any Bama fan (unless you count my father) in real life, but the ones that I've met on message boards like these, have almost without exception, been arrogant, cocky and self righteous. They don't care about what the Tide is doing NOW, they'd rather beat you over the head with what the Tide did under The Bear 30 years ago (before many of us were even born). Furthermore, it kills me to hear so many Bama fans gripe, moan and complain about how the NCAA screwed him. NEWSFLASH: YOU SCREWED YOURSELVES! The NCAA punished you for things that YOU DID! If you can't do the time, don't do the crime... If the Bama fans would step back and rethink things, them come out with a dose of humility (take a cue from some State or Ole Miss fans) and stop bragging about what happened so long ago, admit that you're NOT at the top of your game right now and that you WILL NOT be World Beaters after one non-probation season, then folks would like you a lot more. There's a lot to be said for humility.

Alabama fans are arrogant? Guilty. Our mindset is... us against the world. We consider Bryant Denny Stadium holy ground and our temple is a little museum right down the street on Paul W. Bryant Drive. We view life thru crimson colored glasses and we have grown to expect miracles performed every Saturday in the fall. College football is not a sport in Alabama, it is a religion.

I can sorta understand that. I'm a college football fanatic myself. The "us against the world" thing is very tired though. Put it to rest. No one's out to get you. No one's jealous of your tradition. No one's envious of your talent or your accomplishments. Sure, Bama was great, once upon a time. Sure, Bama will be great again someday (maybe soon, who knows), but the bottom line is that Bama isn't great right now. They're middle of the road. Hell, Bama fans like to throw stones and call Ole Miss a "bottom tier" SEC school. Bama's record over the past 5 years (remember, that's the period of relevancy that we have generally come to agree upon here at SEC Talk) is worse than ours. Ole Miss was very good once as well - hell, we were the little football school up in the northwoods of Mississippi that caught the big boys by surprise and went on a 190-61 stretch there for a couple of decades. We're over it. You should be too. We understand that Coach Vaught (though he's still alive and kicking) isn't our leader anymore. Y'all should understand that The Bear (God rest his soul) is gone. He ain't coming back. Shula isn't Paul W. Bryant reincarnated. Y'all got your tails handed to you by the NCAA for your underhanded actions. You deserved what you got - and then some according to MANY, MANY folks. It's gonna take some time to rebuild. Stop with the "everyone's out to get us because they're jealous" BS. It's really unbecoming.

What do you consider very good? How many national champs did Ole Miss ever win? One maybe. Here is a better question how many do you think Ole Miss will win in the future? National programs are measured by overall wins and National Championships.
As for humility, that is for losers. When would any Alabama Fan want to take a clue from Ole Miss or State? Although, our program is about down to your level. I don't like losing. Once you accept losing it is all over. That is what makes Coach Spurrier such a great coach he can't stand losing.

Ole Miss will win as many as Alabama in the future, and we have three national championships I believe? Nobody accepts losing. However, Tide fans should realize that they won't ever reach the level of prominence they had again atleast not in the near future so they should stop alienating the rest of the teams in the SEC with so called tradition as going on and on about tradition is just a cover for saying "We suck and can't back up our statements with anything tangible in recent memory."

And what should Bama learn from Ole Miss and State? Here's a big one: Not to be a bunch of whiney babies because you got caught cheating. Take your llumps and move on. It's in the past. It's history. You're pity party impresses noone and just furthers you own whiney, rich boy tradition based stereotype.

This is what I'd consider very good (notice I didn't say GREAT, as that word is reserved for Tony the Tiger and people whose heads are, no doubt, too big for their bodies):

Over the 25 season period from 1947 and 1971:

W/L record: 184-51
6 SEC Championships
3 National Championships

And you guys wonder why no one likes you? Your post is a classic examply of why no one likes you. Gracious winners? Haha! Gracious losers? Bwahaha! "As for humility, that is for losers." That's classy, real classy. I guess though, that you should know all about humility being reserved for losers, given Bama's recent record.

Humbling would not even begin to describe it. But the good thing is, when we get a win over MTSU we will forget everything bad and start making reservations for the Rose Bowl. Life is grand when you're a BAMA fan.

And I'll be booking you a reservation at the looney bin. If you're nice, I'll make sure they color your padded walls orange and blue.

Come see me after losses to UT, UF & LSU. You may well be going to the rose bowl, but Bama's football team won't be making the trip ;)

They are overrated, and I would rather cheer for Tennesse than Alabama! I don't hate them though, but they are thick headed and think that they are the best thing in College football. I enjoyed watching the Hogs spank them 28-10 last year =)

And the spanking that USC gave em. :)

Again again....Neo and all the Cocks have such pride beating Bama during bad years.....ah....guess you have to be proud about something don't know? It's easy to misunderstand a fan's pride for their football tradition when your own school doesn't have one...

The only question is how long will it be empty. Not a knock, just the unfortunate trend the past couple years.

That would be an interesting thing. A statistical analysis of long-term injuries at all the schools over say the past 5 or 10 years. Like a line or bar graph or something.

I generally do like Bama and their fans.

But I remember one recent year when Bama whipped our butts in Tiger Stadium and the Bama fans were particularly frisky after the game. Exiting from the upper deck, you could see the lights of the gigantic Exxon refinery up river. A Bama fan, trying to be cute, said, "What's that? A trailer park?" After his buddies stopped laughing, I said to them, "Yep, doesn't it make you homesick." That took the sting out of their joke, but not out of their victory.

Bama is okay with me. I like what they add to the SEC.

I love going to Tuscaloosa. It has been great every time and their fans have been very hospitable even with their recent record against us. The food and the stadium and getting a feel for the tradition that we so often hear about, that is all wonderful. This year we may get different treatment though I hope not. After all, it is football. Serious here in the South, to be sure, but not life or death. Yelling for your team and ribbing the other guys a bit, well that is all part of it. The threatening, physical stuff is not.
Likewise, I would hate to hear that Tiders had a miserable time at Neyland (other than the outcome of the game). I hope that this fierce rivalry stays fierce only on the field and that both sides treat the other's fans respectfully. At any rate, some may think that I am crazy, but I greatly look forward to the trip again.

Thats true. However, the trends of which you speak usually dont end behind the smallest, most inexperienced O-Line in the conference.

uh....an empty trainers table???

We were missing our starting QB, starting RB, half our secondary, and one of our starting WR's was suspended for academic reasons. I'm tired of Tide fans saying they lost to us because of injuries, we had plenty of our own injuries for that game..... ;)
