View Full Version : Recruitment of new members.
Other than the advertising during the games, does anyone else have an idea on how to boost the number of new members joining? Please speak freely...

I noticed a lot of sites are like that. They want you to advertise for them, but you cannot advertise for someone else via a sig.
GamecockCentral.com & GamecockNation.com are like that also.

Being from the Midwest and knowing there are other SEC fans on this site that have spread to other parts of the country, I would say it might be worthwhile to look into perhaps creating a forum called TOMC for The Other Major Conferences or something. Trying to talk people up here into joining an SEC teams site is like trying to talk a Packers fan into joining a Vikings fan site. It just isn't gonna happen unless there's content that pertains to their favorite team and/or their teams' rivals.
Just a thought...

Bumper stickers would be a good idea;especially useful if used by members in a good sized city. Anytime a fan of a football team in the SEC got behind you they would probably take note of it and check it out. Its a pretty easy name to remember so they would be able to recall it by the time they got home. The results would probably be good at a pretty small cost. Its been a while since I started an account here so I forgot if you have a question that asks how the joining member heard about the site. That would give you an idea of what is working as far as getting members here.
These are all great ideas!!!
Any others?

I don't know about ideas (i'm still thinking) but please get some more Georgia fans here. We need the backup every once in a while. ;)

Word of mouth is still the best way to reach people IMO. Alot of you UGA and UF guys need to get your buddies to join. Be proactive Silverbritches, I know you have friends with computers. Talk them into joining. Then get them to get their friends to join.

Most of my friends don't share the same passion for SEC football like I do. I have tried though.

I mean all of them like sports and college football but most of them don't know enough about their team to be able to handle discussions like we have. I do have some friends that are die hard UGA fans like myself, but most of them won't spend the time to post over here. I'll see what I can do.
I still think the best way is to make signs for the games. You could just like staple it to a telephone poll also if you don't feel like carrying one around.

You have friends that aren't passionate about UGA football and the SEC like you are? I just find that odd..I really thought there would be more UGA, UT and UF fans than there are on this forum..I mean afterall, these are the teams have dominated the SEC for quite sometime ;)

I think the bumper sticker idea is great..I would 'sport' a SECTalk.com sticker on my car in a heart beat...(right next to all of my GAMECOCK stickers of course :D). I really think the "SECTalk.com T-shirt" idea is great idea also. We need members of the forum that can get the word out...people that don't hesitate talking to new people they meet or know.

I actually found this place in someone's sig over at the USC scout.com site.
Like I said, most of my friends are just kind of UGA fans. They pull for UGA and sport UGA hats and what not but they don't go to any games unless I take them with me. Most of them didn't grow up going to all of the Georgia games like I did. I mean I have missed maybe 1 or 2 home games since I was 6 years old. I will talk some of my buddy's into it though.

That's just like me. I have gone to at least 4 USC home games every year since like 1990.

Ads of course are always good, but cost a little more money than other alternatives.
I like the bumper sticker idea, but have to say I like "window stickers" a little better myself. They also seem to be sported on a lot more vehicles nowadays than actual bumper stickers.
Also, it would probably be a good idea to draft up a nice printable sign/flyer that members could print out. Most schools have bulletin boards in a lot of buildings that you can post whatever you want on them. At UofA we had a ton of boards in every building with everything from book sales to ticket sales to hot wing deals advertised on them. I'm sure many other schools have similar boards. Be great thing to stick up there closer to football season.
Also, maybe T-Shirts if there's enough interest for a group order. That's always a good way to advertise, especially when walking around the huge crowds at a ballgame.

I have tried to "recruit" other members for this site but it wasn't very succesful. I guess you could say I was recruited. Dudeman went to ESPN.com and that is where I come from. I've went back there once to try to get others here but they did'nt take me seriously of course. We are now affiliated with crimsontusks.com I believe. Thats what their admin told me when I visited that place. SECrivals.com did'nt show much interest but I believe they also put a link up. Word-of-mouth just isn't enough.

Probably mine....
I have the handle "NCGamecockinMonroe" over there. I don't go there much anymore though. Just way too much garbage.
