ok, is someone having a bad day? hehe
they're all tied, what do you want them to do? valedictorian is based on GPA only. they can change the rules to include SAT scores next year, but as of now those are the rules. they're not coddling anyone. having each of them recite one quote i'm sure was much quicker than the other valedictorian speeches i've seen anyway.
they all had 4.0's...congrats to them.

valedictorian
noun {C} US
a student, usually one who has been the most successful in a particular class, who makes a speech at a special ceremony at the end of a school year
a student, that is singular. most normal schools have a series of tie breakers that determines a winner

come on man, how many valedictorian speeches have you seen? they can be INCREDIBLY painful to listen to. i would much rather hear 40 short quotes. i see no downside here, hehe.

Look at your definition. How can one be the "most successful" if they're all equally successful? I don't see what the big deal is.

they are never equally successful one of those 40 went the extra mile and isnt being recognized why should someone try to win when they get no props?

the one that worked the hardest probably had a solid SAT score, better AP test scores, participated in the most activities inside and out of school, and therefore got into a better college with more scholarships. what is it exactly that you want them to win? a longer speech?
i can see the competition of who got into a better school or who got the best scholarships, but being valedictorian doesn't even mean as much in the long run.

Is that where you put them all in a room, take their glasses away and let them run around bumping into the walls, and the last one conscious wins?
