Should we close the prison at Gitmo?

To Close or Not to Close Gitmo?

"The kind of people held at Guantanamo include terrorist trainers, bomb makers, extremist recruiters and financiers, bodyguards to Osama bin Laden and would-be suicide bombers - they're not common car thieves - they're believed to be trained killers," Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told reporters during a Pentagon briefing Tuesday.

Ummm ... , not close. (There, now how difficult was that?)

that are certainly changes that could/should be made, but the problems that gitmo causes don't outweigh the benefits.

We wouldn't need to expand it if we would just start executing them after we strain all the info we can out of them.

(thus my vote for finding "other options")

I trust Donald "Duck!" Rumsfeld about as much as I Danny Ford to run a clean football program. He's either as dumb as he looks & sounds or as corrupt as the person(s) he's lying for. Rummy makes being wrong and over-stating situations by epic proportions an artform no one will ever be able to duplicate.

That being said, I still like the idea of having another Muslim country we're on decent terms with house these guys instead of us. It's probably a pipe dream but if we help fix and use the UN instead of constantly point out its weaknesses and doing whatever it takes to dissolve it, this could very easily be a UN-sanctioned and supervised reality.

In other words, those prisoners are going to be at Guantanomo as long as our fearless leaders want them to be. Probably longer. ;)
