Great article on the Gators, Meyer, and recruiting. It's an unabashed, unapologetic soap box for Florida, so if you don't like that kind of article, don't read it.

Wow, that is as big a homer article as I have read about any team in a long time. It looks like the writer is ready to become Urban's personal waterboy. My favorite part of the article is

"What if the Gators win big? What if the Gators go 10-1 or better? If you think that 10-1 is out of the question, then you obviously have had your head buried in the sand the past few months. The talent is there, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Because the offense is so good, the defense may have the luxury of playing with a large early lead. Defenses tend to be much better when the offense spots them a couple or three touchdowns. If you don't believe that, then take a look at what happened in 2001 when the Gators were constantly ahead two or three touchdowns by the end of the first quarter."

Yeah, I remember 2001 and his name is Travis Stephens. The Vols will be more than happy to run all over the Rotags again and again and again. :D

I thought Zook had good recruiting classes at Florida. He would have had another top class if he was not canned. You have to be really bad to not recruit well for the Rotags with the wealth of talented recruits the state of Florida produces combined with what the ole ball coach set up with his winning ways.

It makes me smile seeing all the Gator faithful jacked-up with 80 something days before kick-off. It will make the fall from superiority this coming fall that much more enjoyable for us bottom feeding opponents of the rotags.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Here is an interpreter's rendition of one of the articles idioms:

Then you have Urban Meyer (DisturbinUrban). He's young (very inexperienced). He's energetic (nervous as a mouse who's seen a cat). He's passionate (knows if he loses, he's history) about the University of Florida (phase II junior college in central Florida) and building championship teams (Elvis has left the building, err, I mean Darth Visor).
:p

With less Miles leading your squad, you're one to talk about coaches!

Can't wait for your "Beatdown in the Bayou."

I think the article is great. Heck, we need something to get us to football time. All schools have writers who are showing their homerism quite well. The line about the earth moving is so over the top that you can do nothing but laugh. It just seems as if Urban went to Franz Beard(writer) and said "Franz, I'm going to need you to grab your ankles and take it like a Gator homer" that Franz would be saying "Thank you sir, may I have another?" How many journalists are standing in line to become Urban's new pet? Franz looks like he might be at the head of this line.

As far as the rotags goes, it is just a little innocent Tennessee joke. I hope I get to make it to the swamp. It is going to be a tough ticket. The fact that the LSU game follows the rotags will make it tough to attend both. If I have to choose between going to the Swamp or Red Stick, I'll take Red Stick with a Sunday side of Nawlins.

Wow Tennessee has a brutal road schedule. That's got to be tough to open up SEC play with Florida and LSU back to back. Tennessee's first game against UAB will be Sept. 3rd. and the Florida game is Sept. 17th. It seems like having 2 weeks to prepare X's and O's and physically will be an advantage of the Vols. What do you think?

I think it will be good for the fact that Florida plays two games before the Vols. While Urban will not show everything he is going to use, it should help the coaching staff start to get a feel as to what Urban wants to do with this year's Gator club. The plus side for Tennessee with only one game before the swamp date is that(knocking on wood) Tennessee should avoid injury problems. I do wish the Vols had the open date later in the season as the schedule looks brutal with all of the tough back to back match-ups.

Yeah you hate to see early injuries that cause players to miss their entire season. I go to school close to knoxville and i remember the UT/ FL game last year when LB Kevin Simon ( I think ) got hurt early in the game. I'm trying to look at past schedules and see what has happened early in the season when teams have had 2 weeks to prepare for their 2nd game..... I guess you have different advantages for both teams... but I'm not sure which ones will weight out more than the others.

Nice analogy. I hope his mouth don't write a check his butt cannot cash. He knows what is going to happen if he does. If he makes these kids live like decent people, that is great, and all you can ask for. Early leads for the defense. Sometimes may happen, but won't always. He better know how to win a defensive bloodbath as well.

Yeah, without defense you wont last long in the SEC.

Yeah that's why I'm so glad Meyer is happy with his defense so far and can almost consider them one of the "special defenses" that he has seen.

The thing that some of the comments DisturbinUrban has made that I don't think he realizes is the amount of parity in the SEC. It's real easy to win big and blow people out of the stadium when you're the only offensive beast in the conference.

Hell, you could put Holtz'z offensive scheme in the MEAC and run the table to the MEACCG every season. Does that mean it will work in the SEC, hell no! UF will be in for a lot of heartache this season if "Urbie the love bug" can't do there what he did at Utah.

I wish him the best until he comes to Columbia, and I believe he'll win big in time, but I do believe that he will have some growing pains in Gainesville before he (and he will) takes the program to the level that Spurrier had it and beyond.

Florida is the offensive beast in the SEC. That is the reason Meyer will have it a little easier than any other new coach in the conference. Florida scored more points per game than even Auburn last season. They also lead in most passing stat categories. They managed that playing conservative Zook football. . . . so I think Meyer will have the team being very explosive very early into the season. He's got too many playmakers this year not to. One thing flying under the radar is just how good the defense is going to be this year. Even Meyer thinks it's special, and it's hard to get him to compliment anything. These things added up should be putting the nation on notice, and it really is so far.
