USC IS ONE of more than 25 schools to offer a scholarship to junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen (6-foot-3, 190 pounds) of West Lake Village, Calif. He is the brother of former Tennesse quarterback Casey Clausen, and currrent Vols quarterback Rick Clausen.

Last season, Jimmy Clausen threw 57 touchdowns passes and six interceptions. Among his other offers are LSU, Colorado, Tennessee, Michigan, Southern Cal, Miami, Texas and Florida State. Charlotte

Man I would love this, and Spurrier would love to shove this down the Vols fans... :D

The Clausen Family is well-known out here...they are sort of the Booty Family of the West Valley. They have shown no inclination to stay out here and I don't think that Colorado or Miami will appeal to them. They have done Tenn and LSU (Sort of). Too many #1 prospects in the Pipeline at USCal with Booty and Hinds duking it out to follow Leinhardt and Sanchez grabbing a red-shirt year. Somehow he just does seem to be the Miami type...no record as a thug. Meyers' offense might be appealing and he could play pretty quickly. I don't think Florida State will get a sniff at him...Bobby recruited his brothers pretty hotly and came empty.

That leaves Spurrier and Carolina. No offense to the Gamecocks, but the one problem that I see with this is the program's reputation. Whether or not SOS can convince him to look past history is a big issue.

The other issue is one that is well-known for the Clausen Family. They were more than a bit disappointed that Casey's career at Tenn did not end in a big fat NFL Contract. At this point, he will be playing for the Cologne Centurions in Europe. They really want Rick and Jimmy to do better than tossing oblong spheroids in Germany. While Spurrier's quarterbacks have always done well in his system, it does not appear that the NFL thinks much of them. They bump around for a while and a few have had a good year or two, but none of them are threatening to take space in the Hall of Fame.

If the Clausens are smart, they will jump at playing for Spurrier. That would be QB heaven and give young Clausen opportunities to learn from the best QB coach in college football. Plus, if he has good talent, he'll be showcased to the nation.

It looks like he is in the running to convince quite a few more this year. That would be 2 recruiting classes for young Jimmy to come in and build upon.

My money is on Darth Visor getting this kid.
And it would be nothing but a good thing for young Clausen. It's a win, win situation for him if he chooses South Carolina.

Wow. I am shocked that you guys don't seem to consider UT to be in the running. I predict that before this guy's recruitment is over, the Vols will be one of the teams to beat for his services.

Great, another Clausen in the SEC. I wonder if the young Clausen will be like Casey "Vanilla Ice" Clausen. Casey is still the best one armed QB I know. Maybe, little Clausen is better. Hopefully the little one will be like Rick and not his oldest brother.

Okay first things first. If Spurrier wins, the Clausan family will take a look at USC. It is that simple. You have to wonder if ego's will clash between Jimmy and the 'ole ball coach. Then again, Jimmy could love the attitude Steve displays. It is all about winning.

Now, the funny part about your post has to do with Rick playing on the professional level. That is not going to happen. He does not have the arm to even get a sniff. What you will see Rick doing after he graduates is becoming a graduate assistant coach. The young man is as good as it gets in the make-up department. This is one reason why he is a captain of the football team and is probably not going to be a starter. He is all about the team. He is a very bright young man. Rick will one day become a head coach if he chooses to go down that road.

The Clausan family and the University of Tennessee get along fantastic. Casey had some up and down's at UT, but most people are appreciative of what he was able to accomplish in the Vols uniform. Rick has become very popular among the fans. Jimmy knows what to expect if he comes to Knoxville. I'm sure it will not hurt having Rick on staff when Jimmy is ready to commit. By then, you should to expect to see David Cutcliffe working in some capacity with the football program. Health permitting, Cutcliffe and Fulmer will look forward to working together again. There friendship would almost guarnatee it. Rick Clausan on staff, plus David Cutcliffe available to counsel young padawan Clausan looks like a UT lead for the services of the youngest Clausan.

Supposedly, the youngest Clausan has the head of Rick and more athletich ability than Casey. He is said to be as cocky as Casey as well.

I think Cutcliffe will be a head coach sooner rather than later. I have a feeling he could end up at Kentucky if Brooks doesn't pull some magic.

That can be good or bad. Hopefully he won't show his a$$ in the newspaper and give the opponent bulletin board material. And if he does, he better hope they don't beat his a$$ when they play and make him look stupid.

The sad part about that game was if UT had scored at the end of the second half and not given away that touchdown, it would have been a game. Georgia probably still wins the game as that Vols team seemed to be fragile in the make-up department. I'm not sure if it was the leaders on the team or a large percentage of guys. I would have to guess it was the leaders(supposedly) of the team who did not have the right stuff. I've never seen a team quit like the Vols did that night. Very depressing to say the least.

Oh come on Britches, give the guy a break. You kicked our a$$. He took his punishment. Lets let bye gones be bye gones. Hell, if I had a nickel for every time a player said something stupid I'd be typing this message from a tropical island. :D

You are probably right. But, if we didn't get called for like 3 personal fouls you wouldn't have been in position to score before half anyways. That fumble made it all ok though. I almost fell over the top railing I was so happy. I guess you all got us back last season though.

I think this could change depending on what UT does with Rick this coming season. If he doesn't get his fair share of playing time, the relationship between the Clausan family and UT could really go down hill.

You are right. I think that Rick is going to get plenty of snaps though. He surprised us all with his play last season and deserves to see some action as a result. Most of us anticipate that Ainge will be the starter because he is more talented, but Clausen just might beat him out. I would not be shocked. The guy just has a nice feel for our offense and coming out of spring they were still bracketed at #1.
Most observers think that young Clausen will be quite a bit better than his brothers. He is ripping the state of California apart with ridiculous stats. I hope that he follows in his brothers' footsteps. It would be hard not to be a big Vol fan when all your brothers played significantly there.
Any suggestion that Casey not being drafted lies at the feet of our coaches is crazy. His family should know as much. I loved his competitiveness, but his arm and mobility were not NFL caliber. He should blame genetics for that.

Well, there's one thing for sure; we won't have a shot at the youngest Clausen. I don't really know why Rick didn't get off of the ground around here. For one thing, he was much smaller than both Flynn and Russell, and he didn't exhibit the arm strength they have. But, man, what a surprise he was in that bowl game!

Come on now, this is the Clausen family, not the Leak family. If Rick doesn't get enough snaps this year, that is not gonna scare away Jimmy if he really wants to come here. If he is as cocky as Casey, then he probably thinks he is better than Rick and Casey anyway.
Casey was oftentimes underrated as a QB. Yeah he ran like a giraffe but when it came time to win, he often pulled it out. He was something like 18-1 in opponents stadiums. He really didn't just have the build that NFL scouts were looking for.
The Clausen family will leave it up to Jimmy to make his decision and I hope he succeeds wherever he goes.
