I need help....no, not a psychologist...from anyone who knows anything about fantasy football. :D

I'm in a dynasty league (14 teams) that has multi-year contracts & one 5 year contract per team being the longest.

I have L.Fitzgerald inked for low $$ over the next four years but have an opportunity to trade him for a spot in this years' rookie draft that would definitely get me Troy Williamson, whom I could sign for the rookie amount ($5) over the next five years...contracts increase 10% every year so I'd only be paying him about $14 five years from now.

Fitzy would go for low $40's by the end of his....still not a bad number considering we have $450 to spread out over 22 roster spots.

Here's how our league is set up:

The main reason I'm considering this is because I figure as an expansion team, I'm going to be losing for a couple seasons anyway unless i get extremely lucky with the rookie draft/trades. If I'm going to suck, I may as well have the players I want who I know are going to be solid pros a couple-three years down the road.

I also have the 16th & 17th picks in the first round, two more in the 2nd & 3rd rounds so I'll have a young team no matter what anyway...

Help?? :o

What I learned with fantasy football is you have to do it without your heart...But troy will most likely be an awesome pro...I think I would take troy over fitz...I just see Troy amounting to more...Also Fitz is on the cardinals and Troy is on Culpepper's team...

If you are sure that you can get Williamson, I would do it. Fitzgerald is more of a known commodity, but when you consider risk versus reward, the possible payoff far outweighs the risk in my opinion. The worse thing that could happen is that Fitzgerald becomes a total stud and Williamson is a bust. At any rate, you would have saved a lot of money to apply elsewhere. Also, this scenario is unlikely. The Vikings want to prove that they did not make a mistake by drafting Williamson so high. They will give him every opportunity to succeed. You also have to consider the fact that he has a much better quarterback. The Vikes are going to try to get the young man the ball.

I personally think that Williamson will be as good as Fitzgerald in a year or two. Plus, you can lock him up at a low cost for one more year than Fitzgerald. While I agree that you should not let your personal favorites cloud your judgment, I think that you should do this deal.

I'd trade for Williamson. He'll be cheaper, and I think more productive in the future. Last year Fitzgerald's stats were probably higher than they would have been, had Bolden been healthy. Bolden and Fitzgerald will get their catches, but I would think they'd split the catches, causing the numbers to go down. I'm guessing your draft picks are only for rookies, or are they for all untaken players? Who else do you have on your team?

yeah i would trade for Williamson....lower cost and better upside....Williamson will have a better QB and will burn a lot of CBs in the Metrodome on that fast turf....not to mention Fitz is going to play second fiddle to Boldin....Troy will prolly be #2 reciever but will have a chance to overtake Burleson and even if he doesnt Troy will be their #1 deep threat and you know how much the Vikings and Culpepper love to throw deep....so i say definitely trade for Troy....

Being an expansion team with those "parting gifts" from the team I used to share, all I have is Fitz (who my former co-owner wants), Joe Horn and Duce Staley. Duce's contract is hefty ($44/4 years) too so he won't get as much interest as Horn ($27/1). The expansion draft we just did was basically a dung heap of bad contract decisions made by the other owners so there's virtually no value there...my best expansion draft player is Jabar Gaffney ($8/2years) if that tells you anything and my worst (who I was forced to take cuz I had the last pick in the exp draft) is Quentin Griffith who some dummy signed for $55/4 years just last year. That means in the last year of his contract, I'm going to have to pay that waste-o-space $75!

Rookies are so important in this league cuz you can tie them up for CHEAP over the next 5 years....
