What?! So if you don't even VOTE a certain way you can get kicked out of your own CHURCH! Simply amazing...
"Religion and Politics Clash
Religion and politics clash over a local church's declaration that Democrats are not welcome.
East Waynesville Baptist asked nine members to leave. Now 40 more have left the church in protest. Former members say Pastor Chan Chandler gave them the ultimatum, saying if they didn't support George Bush, they should resign or repent. The minister declined an interview with News 13. But he did say "the actions were not politically motivated." There are questions about whether the bi-laws were followed when the members were thrown out.

That's true, but this is extreme IMO.... I have liberal friends and I disagree with them on everything but I still value their opinion... If you only roll with people who agree with you then you never learn how to win arguments...

This was entirely wrong. This church should do what they need to do to remove this guy from the pulpit.

I definitely agree with you. Pastors like this give Christians a "bad name". I just cannot believe he gave people in his congregation an ultimatum because they didn't agree with his choice of "political candidates".

Revoke the church's tax exempt status.
if you did that to every church that did get involved in politics there wouldn't be a tax exempt black church left in the south

I swear I heard a rumor about something they were trying to pass that would keep stuff like this and the vice-versa from happening. Dang...can't remember what that was....seperation of church & state? no, that's too obvious....i'll remember it here in a bit... ;)

Usually the Pastor has little power as far as decision making in the Church, Most decisions are made by the Deacons, Elders, committe board or the congregation, depending on denomination. That could be another thread. Pastors should lead by example, they are the shepard of the flock (Biblical). Spiritual leaders. This guy has apparently been overtaken by the super Pastor syndrome, which eventually will destroy his pastoral position.(I hope). He is running people out of the Church, and that is not what the Church was set up for. If the congregation of this church is following Christ and not the Pastor(another thread), they'll boot this guy out. There is a Pastor in a very large Church in my area that has that syndrome. He will not let the children of the Church actually meet him until they have graduated High School. That is wrong!! He should get the boot too. I know it sounds like I'm bashing the Church, I'm not. Not all Pastors are like this. I know many pastors that are kind, loving and very humble and They serve as their divine calling has required. and believe it or not, make a very small salary.
We all know that there is trouble in our churches, and the majority of the trouble revolves around Greed. Love of big bucks!!

I don't really think we should revoke tax exempt status for Catholics and southern blacks, but there is a line that they all skate at times. Cases like this are obviously over that line.
sounds like jneesy's kinda church..... j/k

Speaking of Democrats/Liberals, I love how they blame the deficit on Bush and every other Republican president when in fact they are to blame. It was a Democrat president (Roosevelt) that took us off of the gold/silver standard and printed money based on the American Government's word. If he wouldn't have done that, we wouldn't have ever had a deficit.

Yep that is true. I find that both sides tirelessly attack each other..and it gets SO old ;) So much time spent playing the "blame game" on each side of politics in our country..they should use that energy to do something USEFUL for our country instead of bickering back and forth!

Heard on Christian radio (K-Love) this morning that the pastor resigned. I bet he had a little help from the congregation.

The conundrum (sp?) here being that both sides have opposite ideas of what is "useful for our country"
Did you know NEO that president nixon took us off of the gold standard? A republican? No, couldn't be, they are agents of God.....
