I really don't know who SHOULD be QB but I think it's Johnson's job to lose. I don't know much about Cole Barthel except that he's a former baseball player so he's a little older. I've heard that ESPN analyst Chris Mortensen's son, Alex, is quite the heady pocket passer (he's our publicity stunt; like USC's Tim Frisby). I don't know...I think its gonna be a tough season. Last year we had the eighth toughest schedule in the nation and this year's should be worse with Southern California the second game of the season...AT PASADENA!!! Not a good schedule for a new QB to have to navigate.

I agree jbuz....from all accounts its pretty much Johnson's to lose. Have heard good things about Montensen as well. Our schedule will be tough but I can't help be excited about Herring, especially after seeing his speech at the touchdown meeting. Excellent speech and being that was the first time I actually have seen him talk, I was impressed.

Do you realize that we paid him 1 million for three years. the only assistant I know that makes more than him is LSU's Fisher makes 1.2 for three years. He better be good. I hope he's mean!!thats what they need.

That USC (socal not the other one) is gonna be really tough....the returning national champs at home!! Houston always has his guys ready though and the defense sounds like they're gonna be a lot better and definitely faster this year. Herring is tough...he makes the players wear pink jerseys when they "loaf". Cole Barthel had a good scrimmage the other day but I still think its Johnson's job to lose...I like Johnson cause he's got a strong arm and can run (not like Jones though)...

Honestly....who keeps voting for Leach? He hasn't taken a snap.

Leach........Ha!!! He'll never even sniff the field. Mortenson won't either barring injuries to Johnson and Barthell. I've been saying this all along, and the scrimmage backs me up. Barthell will be our starter next year. Johnson is way too erratic. He's the best athlete, no doubt, but I think his brain is the size of an egg. Cole impressed the hell out of me with those numbers yesterday. The dude hasn't played football in four years and still did that. Johnson, on the other hand, was a miserable 4-10, int and a fumbled snap that the defense recovered. Not good. If Barthell just continues to progress he'll win the job, and barring injury that's what will happen. It may be before the end of the spring, or it may be 3-4 games into the season, but it's inevitable. Johnson will be the next Pete Burks. Actually, he's better than that, but I just haven't been impressed with anything he's dones since he's been here. He's the best athlete though, so if he'll just use that knot that's 2 feet above his ass, he could be our guy. I'm going with Cole though. He was a baseball player and a highly-touted pocket qb out of high school. With our enormous WR's (Monk 6'5, Brown, 6'6, Baker 6'2 and Washington 6'1) we're going to need to take advantage and throw them the ball. I think Barthell, with some work, will be the best guy for that. God...........I miss Matt.

The moral of this story is that we need to make it through this year, and sign Mitch Mustain -- the Springdale QB being sought after by every major college in the country. That'd be a huge boost for us. Another favorite son. But nobody can ever replace the Golden One aka Matt Jones.

According to Springdale's coach, Mustaine is going to visit several schools and then limit his number of choices hoping to make a selection before the start of next season...which is good, so we'll know. He's being recruited by Notre Dame, South Carolina, Texas, and many others.....I think he's coming to Arkansas though. I'm a little worried about Barthel starting because its been a while since we've had a pocket-passer....are we gonna completely have to change the offense? We really do need to utilize our tall receivers....how's this Anthony Brown guy, I know he had a TD the other day but is he gonna play? Baker and Washington need to step up this year.

Mustain is interested in others, but he's already said that whoever he narrows it down to Arkansas will "no doubt" be in that mix. Brown's pretty good. He's big, strong and fast, but I don't think his hands are great. He did catch a TD -- from Barthell -- yesterday and had another reception of 20+ yards. I think our WR's will be one of the strengths of our team next year and will tremendously help an inexperienced QB, which we know we'll have. Monk and Washington will be the two main targets. Monk could potentially be the best WR in school history based on his record-breaking freshman season, his size and attitude. He's a 4.0 student, mature and will do the things necessary to make himself better. Washington is supa-fast. I mean he's a burner. 4.2 something. He came on and made some huge catches at the end of last season, so I'm really looking for him to have a breakout year. I think Baker and Brown will be the next two guys. You're right, Baker needs to elevate his game and actually, ya know, do something. David Thompson will also be in the mix, but the main two will be Monk and Washington.

They're saying this Michael Smith guy and McFadden could be the best two return guys we've had since Orlando Waters!! Another guy we got from Mills supposedly has a 40+ return average...thats unbelievable. I know Birmingham has the record for return yards but he never was really that dynamic on returns....he got the record cause he had like a million chances. Why doesn't Baker return kicks....he was one of the best athletes in the country coming out of high school.

You got that right dude. I love Decori, but he was never a threat to rip it off to the house. They should've let Jones do it last year. He led the state in punt and kick returns his senior year. Hmmmmm......McFadden returning kicks is tasty. I bet that happens too. I don't know what's up with Baker. He was supposed to be awesome. He's only been on the team for two years, but he needs to step it up big-time this year. Nutt has recruited game-breaker speed very, very well the last two years, so McFadden should have somebody with the quickness back there with him. I'm really excited about McFadden. I think he's gonna have a year like C-4 did back when we were freshman pledges getting our nuts hazed off every night at the PDT lodge.

ahhhhh.....those were the days. I want to see how this Felix Jones guy is, he was highly recruited coming out of Tulsa....I also want to see Kevin Thorton....the Michael Smith guy I was refering to is supposed to be a good kick returner and a guy that can catch passes out of the backfield...wouldn't it be awesome to finally run a screen play effectively? Do we have any recruits who graduated from High school early and were able to take part in Spring practice?

No, they are all stupid gang-bangers.
