Does anyone have any info on this? I saw a 30 sec clip of this on the news tonight but it wasn't that detailed. All I heard was something about three athletic officials were fired...1 white 2 black and there was an uproar about it and they are sending out a nation wide request that all black athletes not attend Auburn until the 2 black officals get rehired.

Does anyone know why they got fired? Has anyone heard anything? I searched the web and couldn't find any info

I dont know anything about it, but black athletes were also encouraged to stay away from South Carolina because we instantly hired Spurrier without looking at a black coach...

I mean I dont have a problem with looking at black coaches when hiring, but which black coach could replace Steve Spurrier?

they weren't fired, it was downsizing, the positions was no longer available. also, they also fail to mention that 1 black administrator was also promoted

The new AD comes in and restructures the athletic department.

2 blacks and one white get terminated.

2 blacks and one white get promoted.

The person calling for a boycott is Alvin Holmes. After meeting him long ago. Let me now declare that I found him to be the biggest racist that I have ever met. Another member calling for such actions and a trustee recently stated that since the athletic department is in good financial shape that Auburn should hire them just to do so. Not that he was doing a good job mind you. Just because we have the money. By the way, it was one of the trustees that made the plane trip to talk to Petrino a year ago.

Just for comparasion:

Here are the number of minorities in major leadership positions for the rest of the SEC as things stood heading into the 2004 football season.

LSU 2 of 9 positions

Arkansas 1 of 8 positions

Mississippi State 1 of 14 positions

South Carolina 2 of 13 positions

Ole Miss 1 of 12 positions

Kentucky 1 of 15 positions

Auburn after the restructing has 2 out of 12 positions. We did have 3 out of 13.
As a matter of fact, Auburn has 22 black employees in the athletic department after the realignment of staff.

UF is 2 out of 17

UT is 1 out of 16

UAT's is 1 out of 12

i mean there should be black people workin in administration and so on...but because 2 got released is no reason to tell black athletes not to go to Auburn...its just plain dumb

This is no different than the crap USC dealt with concerning the BCA. Good luck to the admin guys at Auburn. They're gonna need it because the NAACP and everyone else of the sort is going to attempt a "smear" campaign.

Would you care to qualify your statement about the leadership positions? What exactly are those positions? Is this football only or the whole athletic department?

It's a wonder that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton haven't arrived on the Plains to support this racist brother. They probably would, but they can't find the airport.
