PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt LaPorta • Florida
Sophomore • 1B • Port Charlotte, Fla.

Helped Florida to series win against No. 2 Miami (Fla.), its first since 1996 by hitting .583 (7-for-12) with five RBI and three homers against the Hurricanes. His slugging percentage was 1.417 and he totaled 17 bases. In Friday's opener, LaPorta belted a leadoff homer in the third to give the Gators a 4-3 lead and later blasted a two-run shot in the seventh to give UF a 7-6 advantage.
Went 3-for-4 a scored a run as Florida ended a five-game losing streak to UM with a 2-1 triumph in 11 innings the next afternoon. Was walked intentionally with two outs in the 11th to load the bases and the 'Canes committed an error soon after to end the game. LaPorta was 1-for-3 and drew three walks in Sunday's rubber match and cranked a two-run homer in the sixth frame after Miami had pulled to within 12-10.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Lewis went 7.0 innings facing 24 batters giving up just one hit (a single) and striking out nine batters in a 5-2 win over VMI. Lewis' nine strikeouts are the second-highest in his career. Lewis gave up his only hit of the game in the seventh inning, followed by a walk.
With runners on first and second, Lewis assisted on the first out - a sacrifice bunt - that advanced the runners to second and third with one away. Lewis then struck out the next two batters to retire the side with no VMI runs. Batters owned a 0.53 average against him.to the win.
