View Full Version : Wait 'til next year...?

I would like to propose that we should erase this part of Carolina football. My proposal includes officially changing it to "Can't wait for this year!!!". I am so excited about the upcoming season that I may have myself sedated into a coma. Anyone else with me? I see a better than anticipated performance from Spurrier and company in 2005. I do not believe that the teams performance will be as marginal as anticipated by some sports writers. I honestly believe the coach has the possibility to finish 2005 inside the top 15 and make a bid for the SEC East Crown. Ten and Fla may be stopping points in that but I anticipate them having major problems getting by the Gamecocks. The talent is there and now the coaching is a compliment to it. We've waited long enough, IT'S TIME!!!

How about we dont push it until the season starts and we see how well our players have adjusted to the forward pass....I know our defense will still be there, but I want to know if our offense will be there....

I understand your point, but remember this. Spurrier has coached a long time, so he has done this a time or two. Hasn't failed yet. Offense is his specialty. I really don't think if he believed he could not get this offense ready, he wouldn't be walking around with that big grin on his face every day since signing day. And, like the poster who started this thread said, we cannot live in the past anymore. If we do, we will be no better than we were before. I personally am so excited I can't stand it. I say lets move forward, NOW!! :)

HE HAS SAID THAT AND I BELIEVE HE SEES A STRONG POSS. TO WIN AS EARLY AS NEXT YEAR. DON'T GET ME WRONG I DON'T EXPECT A CHAMPIONSHIP NEXT YEAR AND NIETHER DO ANY OTHER GAMECOCK FANS BUT A CONSISTANT TEAM THAT NO OTHER TEAM WILL AUTOMATICALLY PUT DOWN A "W" BESIDE OUR NAME ON A SCHEDULE BEFORE THE SEASON EVEN STARTS, THATS ALL I EXPECT NEXT YEAR. THE DIFFERENCE IN NEXT YEARS TEAM AND LAST YEARS TEAM WILL BE NIGHT AND DAY, I CAN GUARANTEE THAT.EIGHT WINS PLUS A BOWL WIN COULD BE IN OUR FUTURE NEXT YEAR. IS THAT BEING OPTIMISTIC--YES--BUT ITS ALSO BEING REALISTIC!

I truly do not believe that is being optimistic. That is truly achievable, and I would not be surprised if we are not in the SEC title hunt late in the year next year. I am also not saying we are going to win the SEC next year. I do not foresee that happening, but this should be a much more consistent team, with teams like Ole Miss not slipping up on us like they did this past season. Winning teams should also be a demand from Carolina fans IMO. That is not a challenge Spurrier will mind at all. He has in his own way already plead to the Carolina fans to change their attitude, and expect the best here at Carolina. HE WILL DELIVER!! :)

I say we go ahead and start the next season this Saturday, I am tired of the waiting already. First game should be us vs. Auburn, then we can go ahead and take out OU, after that let's go ahead and show SoCal who the real USC is. Ok, ok I am a little excited, but I honestly feel that the only team that can keep us from the SEC CG is UT. From going to the games last year and seeing how we played this is what I have noticed.
1. The only game we really played up to our potential in the 4th quater last year was the Ark. game, we only played like we wanted it for the final few minutes. I know that will be changed as players will ride the bench if they decide to give up in the 4th this year.
2. Lou loved to get ahead by one score, be it a touchdown or field goal that was the way he like to play it, then let the O move the ball enough to punt it somewhere past the 50 and let the D win the game. This year we will not be milking a 3 point lead, but will at least try to get comfortable.
3. In a few of the games one part of the team just didn't show up at all, I can remember thinking during the Ole Miss game that our D just wanted to go out and wave at the fans for a while and sit back down. Again this simply will not happen, I think Steve knows that if you can't get excited to play for 80k people someone on the can.

That is crazy,USC will lose at least 3 games this season if not more, finish 3 or 4th in the SEC east. :)

You are probably correct, but I wouldn't call it crazy. We have a lot of talent, and we have had this talent for five years now. You call it crazy, yet the only game that UGa easily won in the past 5 years was in 2003.....2000 and 2001 we won, 2002 we lost because of an unforced fumble at the 1 yd line by Pinnock, 2003 you guys destroyed us, and this past year we were dominating before we got ultra-conservative against an admittedly superior UGa team. Florida we should have beaten in 2003 (I will never forget that fake punt at our own 25 yd line), and UT has been a close game every year during this span except for this past season.

I'm not saying we're going to go undefeated and win the SECC or anything like that. All I'm saying is that if UGa and all the other teams go onto the field thinking the thought of USC winning is 'crazy' and expect pay back against Spurrier for all the blowouts in the past, then we will absolutely beat at least one of the power trio in the SEC East.

I think we all know that, if not this year, very soon it will be a power quartet in the SEC East. Let the best team win. Just don't be so surprised if it's USC this year or in the very near future.

You are right USC always gives UGA and UT a good game, but its not about that its about the team that has more points at the end.It usually is UGA,UT,and UF.Yall might beat clemson and maybe one of the them 3.So that would put USC at 8 wins, thats how many yall will win this season. :)

I think you only can demand wins after a coaches 5th or 6th year, after he has all his players in place and knowing his system and experience at running it. I think putting demands on a coach too early puts unneeded pressure on him and makes it harder to do his job. Just look at Notre Dame, they are in a mess right now and their recruiting this year was not great. You have to give a coach time and support him 100%.
Now I do think because Spurrier is such a great offensive mind and our defense should be good, we might contend this year. Here's Hoping!!!!!
GO COCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you should be able to expect wins out of a coach by his third year especially if that coach is a legend by the name of Steve Spurrier

heres something for everyones thought...in 2003 our gamecocks finished 8th in the nation in recruiting <---these same kids will only be sophomores and redshirt freshman. so the talent is definitely down there. Just thought i would throw that out there to see what ya'll thought about that.

QB PLAY WILL BE THE KEY.
COULD NOT POSSIBLY AGREE MORE. This season hinges more on finding a CONSISTANT competent quarterback than anything else, by far. If one of the candidates can take that step into "special" from "adequate," we're going to be scary-good on both sides of the ball.

Our defense is going to be scary-good anyway....it'd be nice to have a QB in there that can create the offense to match. :)
