I'm hearing some very, very good things about Matt Jones at the Senior Bowl.
I've read where Ivan Maisel, Espn senior writer, said Jones has made the "play of the week" so far when he burned LSU and All-American corner Corey Webster on a deep ball from David Greene. I know that John Gruden showed that play to the players during a speech in which he was trying to pump everybody up by showing great plays from the first few days of practice.
Larry Lacewell, a man with Arkansas ties but more importantly an NFL scout for 20 + years, said that Jones is "the most mezmorizing prospect he's ever seen." That may be a little much, but that's a helluva word to describe him because that's what he is.
During a chat with an ESPN draft expert, but not Mel K or anything, somebody asked who was the most surprising player of the week. This guy was like: Matt Jones, hands down. He said he heard from a scout that the Colts had a lot of interest in Matt. Wouldn't that be something? I do know that Indy TE Marcus Pollard is up for free-agency. They have Dallas Clarke, so I don't look for them to sign Pollard again for more money. They want someone cheaper. It makes sense that if he decides to go the TE route, why wouldn't they want Matt. Clarke would be the tight end, but MJ could come in as the "offensive" tight end. Anyway, bottom line is Matt's really, really helped himself so far this week. The week of practice is more important than the actual game at the Senior Bowl.
This is good news for Matt. Oh, another espn guy, Ted something, can't remember his last name, said that he could see Matt going as high as the 3rd round. That's a big improvement. After the combine--which is largely based on character and athletic ability--his stock will rise. So a third round prediction now from an "expert" is looking pretty good now.
And our b-ball boys need to whoop up on the Cats this weekend. We need this one. We've had a week to prepare, so...........
