Does anyone know where the vols got orange and white for school colors?

Hunting? :)

Honestly, I don't know. But that horrible shade of orange is one of the things I really hate about UT. I honestly can't stand to look at the uniforms. And those shoes they wore this year.... bleh. :p

I have nothing against orange.... Auburn has orange in their team colors, and it doesn't bother me. UT's orange is just SOOOO freaking bright.

The reason their colors are soooo bright is become UT selected their colors from the daisies that grow on the hill beside Neyland Stadium.

I don't care where they got the "brightness" of the orange from... it's still one of the most "gawdy" shades of the color I've seen in such mass quantities as you get in a football stadium.

I don't have an opinion.

I have seen worse than UT's colors. Trust me! :D

Yea that definitely hurts, but truthfully the colors were picked by a student. I'm not sure of his name but the school voted on it and the colors were approved.

I have to say I hate the "orange and white" jokes, but the best one i've heard would have to be "why does UT wear orange uniforms? so they don't have to change when they go out to pick up trash."

The way I see it we're a stand out team so we need stand out colors.

UT may have an orange that looks like split carrots baby food, but at least they dont mix burnt orange with a bright ass purple. I would say chumpson has by far the ugliest color combo ever.

it is an original color though, I will say that. I think there should be a rule where everyone has to have at least a few shades between each others colors. In the SEC we got Ark, Miss St., Bama, and us wearing colors really close together. I think it would be cool if we added some metallic flake to our helmets like the Utes did this past season.

one more just for note...i was in tennesse this past weekend and it truly is the VOLUNTEER state:)

I agree with Neo.....orange and black would look cool, but you can't fool around with tradition.

Okay...don't break tradition. Wear the orange and black jerseys once a year. Maybe during the week of Halloween.

Exactly. See, when you have Ole Miss, Miss St., Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina (6/12 teams) wearing some version of the color red, I'll pretty happy with something besides it.

And, I know, Orange isn't exactly the most attractive color in a uniform, but dang it, I love it. It's probably the most recognizable uniform in football, not only for the colors, but also the power T (which makes up for alot of things) on the helmet. And, our Athletic Director (or whoever designs the uniforms) keeps the big Orange in control. The home uniforms have a plain Orange jersey with white pants, and our away uniforms are all white jerseys and pants with Orange numbers.

Acouple of things I wouldn't mind trying is maybe alittle more White, especially because it is our secondary color, and like some of you said, maybe Orange and Black. I think it could be pretty pimp for an alternative uniform for Senior Day or Homecoming, or better yet, on Halloween. :P

Anyway, all in all, there are alot of other "questionable" uniforms out there. USCal is basically a stop light, LSU is purple and yellow, Clemson is horrible, Oregon is horrible, Boise State is unspeakable, and heck, while I'm on it, why is Georgia's away uniforms white jerseys with grey pants.... At least we match.

yes such good role models they are to pull over and pick up trash that Georgiains have thrown all over there state, risking being late for practice with the Falcons in the Georgia Dome, they should be rewarded.

Maybe you all could take most of those players for yall that didnt cut-it in the NFL and let them help for some community service hours

The colors Orange and White were selected by Charles Moore, a member of the first football team in 1891, and were later approved by a vote of the student body. The colors were those of the common American daisy which grew in profusion on The Hill. Tennessee football players did not appear in the now-famous Orange jerseys until the season-opening game in 1922. Coach M.B. Banks' Vols won that game over Emory and Henry by a score of 50-0.

I don't want to even dare say what the original colors were. I shudder to think what it would have looked like.
