View Full Version : Lou Holtz
I saw this posted by: OrlandoGamecock on another site and I thought I would quote him here:
"After reading about Doc McGee's impending retirement, I started to think about Lou. Even though he'll be remembered for his football accomplishments, his "3 yards and a cloud of dust" and QB draws, I'll remember Coach Holtz this way:

A man.
Thank you, Coach!"

Amen to that. Coach Holtz will always have a special place in the heart of this Gamecock fan.

Diggin that Champ! That's what bothered me so much this past season. There was so much hate & venom spewed towards him by so many fans. Many who now act like they're grateful to him. To me there was nothing more hypocritical that to see folks bashing & attacking the man for 11 weeks, acting like they knew more about football & his team than him, & then come out w/ some kind of weak, lame "thank you Lou" garbage at the end.
I wish Lou & his family nothing but the best, but wouldn't blame him if he never stepped foot in the state of SC again.

I agree, LOU WAS WHAT WE NEEDED AT THE TIME, he was demanding of the players and coaches to some extent. His rep was that no excuses would be tolerated!
With the exception of D. Watson, who got away with everything possible [how many arrest warrants?].
Watson was the best east-west runner that has ever worn a Carolina uniform. HE was praised, ... for what?
I still can't figure that one out??
He should have been kicked off the team at least 3 times, and would have if SOS were the coach at the time!
I am also glad that "SKIP" is out of the loop. He may be an OFFENSIVE GENIOUS in his own mind. Lou should have fired him 2-3 years ago and hired someone who could actually run an offence..
I LOVED LOU’S attitude and PEOPLE FRIENDLY PERSONALITY. If you ever watched his Sunday post game show, you know what I mean. COMPAIR it to the DRY, DEADPAN KLEMSON "MR. NO PERSONALITY" SHOWS.
I'm just VERY HAPPY THAT THE SON DIDN'T FOLLOW DAD AS "THE HEAD COACH" which I was afraid would happen.
I think a lot of others were also afraid that it would happen also.
Sorry about the rant !
GO COCKS !!!!!

I grew up my whole life a Carolina fan, i'm only 18 so by time i really got into watching the games it wasn't that impressive. Holtz was Carolina's first true coach in my eyes, even though we all had some dissagreements in his playmaking he still brought respect, national attention, and wins to Carolina. He was a great coach and proud to have seen him coach and speek at the Alumni meetings.

i love lou also but i am glad our offence will be more than qb draw left qb draw right qb draw up the middle then punt
I'll hug Lou Holtz and thank him if I ever get to see him....

I'll 2nd that "EMOTION"!! Think god Fat Brad is at Clemson!!
I learned life lessons from Lou Holtz while just being a fan, not even meeting him, I think that speaks volumes about him as a human being, he had the ability to teach and lead by example...

Lou Holtz is god, he always will be in my eyes. Lou improved us in so many ways. He might not have won as many as everyone may have wanted, but he improved the type of players we recruit and also put us out there on the national level. THANK YOU LOU!

i am with you 100% he was an awesome teacher and father figure for all of our players. and he really brought alot of respect to our program. i wish we could have won more than we did with him but he left us in VERY good shape. Thank You SOOOOO Much Lou

We still have those two magical Outback Bowl years to keep us warm at night. And while the next three years were lean ones, rather than leaving us to the wolves, he induced SOS to take his place (rather than his own son) to continue our quest for the "Holy Grail", instead of merely washing his hands of the situation.
That shows character and integrity, not to mention love!

In my mind, this type of criticism is "in the family." It's ONE thing for us to rip each other, it's another for an outsider to do so.
Any "right thinking" fan appreciates Holtz's efforts. I think it just shows the magnitude of the work needed to turn us around.

Lets face it. If there was no Lou, there would certainly be no Spurrier. Lou put SC on the map. Maybe not everyone agrees that Lou did well, but the man brought a lot to the team and the University.
