I've been reading where the dance team has been told it can't perform during timeouts of hoops games. This apparantly came at the request of an unknown official from the USC athletics department. Popular theory right now is that the concerned parties may feel the Coquettes are too "provocative".

So, my question for all of you regular hoops attendees is what's your take on the Coquettes? Are they too provocative, or is some fuddy duddy messin' up all the fun for you dirty old (& young) men. :p

Of all the things to worry about.....

I wish our athletic department officials would worry more about winning more football and basketball games, and less about this kinda crap.....man...

I've been waiting for this to happen for some time now...

You may remember that McGee did away with the "coquettes" early on in his tenure...for much the same reason...perhaps he wants to go out with the same type of thang? :D

As to my thoughts, I will admit that they do dance a little stripper-ish at times, but I'm a guy and I like that sorta thang. However, OTOH, I can see where this type of dancing would upset the blue-hairs in attendance. It's a catch-22 of sorts.

I know that I have some favorites among the coquettes that I like to point out to my wife. They'll sorely be missed if they're disbanded. :(

From the article:

""We try really hard and it just seems like nobody really cares," she said."

We care, Erin! We really do!

P.S. I had a front row seat for the Coquettes this past Sattidy. My favorites didn't end up in my section, but their alternates weren't too shabby. :D

Long live the coquettes!

20-some years ago a popular student nickname for them used to be the "whore-corps". :o I dated a girl who attended USC and that was the way she refered to them.

Sounds like envy to me.

Hotties gotta represent. The (wo)man is always trying to bring them down.

Well, here's the latest on this steamy controversy. Now the word is that it's NOT because some ol fuddy duddy in the ath dept deemed them "too sexual",

"......but Sports Information Director Kerry Tharp suggested the possibility of miscommunication, explaining that the Coquettes were sidelined to make way for USC cheerleaders. 'It was not the intent to tell them they couldn't dance, just to make sure the cheerleaders kind of took the lead,' he said."

I think the cheerleaders & dancers need to come together & settle this.....

In a big ol mud pit!! :D

Read the rest here. Warning, you may have to do the free registration thing.

I've always had a sneaking suspicion that old men who make these kinds of decisions really like what they see, but feel guilty so they try to hide behind this puritanical stuff. If the fans are complaining thats different - but I think we would have read something about that.

"Whore-corps" definitely sounds like sour grapes to me.

No doubt, and that's what I took it as also. Of course she was a "good girl" ......at least until she got to know young Samurai. ;) :D

From what little I've seen of the dance team on TV, they need to turn them loose and sit everybody else down. That kind of "provocative" doesn't upset me.:D
