Watched the game today to see all that talent Tennessee is supposed to be getting. From what I saw today, their isn't much to brag about. However, Southern California has nothing to worry about after Leinart leaves. The QB for the West, Mark Sanchez, has committed to USC and he was spectacular today.

Jonathan Crompton, Tennessee's most prized recruit at QB, didn't look good at all. He wasn't very accurate, but he showed he isn't afraid to put his head down, but then again, he was playing against high schoolers. For most of the time, he scrambled around and threw the ball all over the field. He did complete a few passes, but the thing that bothers me the most is the fact that he didn't throw the ball down field all that much even with the "no blitz" rule of the All-American Bowl. If he can't throw the ball downfield sitting in the pocket without anyone blitzing, how will he perform with LB's and CB's coming after him?? And it was against high schoolers! I'm trying not to bash the kid, but all I have heard is how great he is and I didn't see that today.

As for the spectacular CB's Tennessee is getting, they got eat up today by Sanchez. Morley got burned a few times and once for a TD.

I realize they threw the teams together, but if that is an argument, how did the West just click like a team that had been playing together all year??

Anway, West wins it in a blowout..........35-3 and none of the East players going to Tennessee did much. Just a little disappointed because I had heard all the wonderful news about Crompton, Morley and the others.

I'll have to agree with you, UT's commitments didn't seem to do a whole lot. However, neither did any other players on the East. How was the West able to come together like that? Your guess is as good as mine. Although I can say this, I saw more of Paulus and Christensen than I did of Crompton. Oh, and you make it sound as if Crompton is already a college player that was playing high schoolers and couldn't do anything. He IS a high schooler if you didn't realize that.

All in all I agree with what you said. I wasn't entirely impressed, but I still feel that we've got one heck of a recruiting class coming in and will definitely be the team to beat in the east next year.

That game sucked. Tom Lemming is a moron. I am so glad that Scout.com will start choosing players for that game next season. Tom Lemming is so biased it is ridiculous. Mohammed Massaquoi and Kade Weston definetly should have been there. I guess since they already commited they are not worthy of playing in the game. Lemming just wants to show all of the "declarations" to attract viewers to an otherwise boring game. There were definetly no Adrian Peterson's or Ted Ginn's at that game today. Still laughing my arse off at Adam Meyers White saying he was going to play for "Tennessee University". And add to that Desean Jackson's moronic touchdown dive. I can't decide what is more pathetic, Desean getting player of the game or his dive into the endzone. Mark Sanchez looks like the real deal.

I cannot understand how UT can attract so many 4 and 5 star athletes. Knoxville is a drab city and their coaches look like pumpkins (except for SANDERS) I am glad that their commits looked bad in the allstar game. You can be sure that Fulmer will coach them down when they get there! Also, his promises of early playing time usually backfires and 4 or 5 will leave to go to another school!!

The person in that game who impressed me most was John Barnes, coach of the west. I hope Jimmy brings his dad with him to Bama. How often do you see an all-star offense play that well together when they have only had about 1 week to practice together.

Fusion, I didn't see any UGA commits out there. Have you ever been to Knoxville? None of our players from this past season have left or are planning on leaving. How will Fulmer coach them down when they get there seeing as UT is one of the top schools as far as players being drafted into the NFL. Where is the basis for all of your comments?

You wanna know why they attract so many recruits? Fulmer has not had one team that has had any less than 8 wins. They have won a NC under Fulmer. Behind Spurrier he has the best win percentage among active SEC coaches. Try doing a little research before you talk down on other teams.

Well, I really don't hold a lot of weight in this game, you have to realize, 17 and 18 year old high schoolers, playing for the first time on national TV, and they have had one week to all gell into a 'team'. Plus, the substitutions go in and out so much none of those QB's for the East could get any rythm. We will see about Crompton, as well as Morely and AMW once they get on the field in K-ville. And don't worry too much about Crompton, we still have E. Ainge, you pups do remember him, right? :p
I fully agree with you that Massaquoi was flat out robbed, you guys got a good one right there from what I understand from friends who know their HS football.

This argument will be won on the field in the next 3-4 years. As for the "drab city" comment, Knoxville is the closest thing to Athens that one will find in the SEC. Personally I rather enjoyed Knoxville. I thought that the gameday scene was among the best in the country. But I will grant Athens the better bar scene in the SEC no doubt about it.

I agree with Les about Athens and Knoxville being very similar. They are both beautiful cities in the hills. Of all of the SEC cities I have been to outside of Knoxville, Athens is my favorite. By the way, I always have a good time in Columbia too!

I love visiting SEC cities and I agree that Athens is off the chains in regard to bar scene. As far as crowd noise you can't beat LSU and Florida. For gameday tradition, I favor UT and Bama. Ole Miss has more pretty ladies than you can shake a stick at. I have unfortunately never been to South Carolina, but I hear its great. Visits to Kentucky, Vandy, and Mississippi State demonstrate why these are basketball schools.
As for the all-star game, I agree with Tidetalk. John Barnes looks like he might be ready for a college job.

Well that and we all know Tom Lemming is an idiot--btw, he picks the players for the AAStar game. Some journalists have been complaining that there were too many Iowa players in the game...and not enough representatives from the south (e.g., FL, TX, etc.).

CNNSI's Stewart Mandel (post-game follow-up):

"One potential asterisk about Saturday's commitment distribution: The game, whose participants are chosen largely by Chicago-based recruiting analyst Tom Lemming, has a decided Midwest tint to it. All four of Iowa's commitments came from Chicago-area players, and it seems a tad odd that a collection of the nation's supposed top 78 school players would include more from Illinois (seven) than notoriously talent-rich Florida (five)."

Agreed, one person should never, ever be in charge of picking that many people for what could be considered such valuable exposure. I think those in charge of the AAA Game should put in place some type of nomination boards that are regional, (ie four for SE, NE, MW, WC), and then they make the nominations from their regions, then they all meet to decide who gets in from there, seems simple to me, but I guess its much easier with a whole lot less accuracy to let one self proclaimed expert pick them all, making an a$$ out of himself in the process.

I think Knoxville is an incredible place to go see a game. Nothing Like Calhoun's on the Tennessee River a couple hours before game time. Tennessee has a wonderful gameday atmosphere as well. I have enjoyed myself my last few trips there. Looking forward to a huge game up there next season with some redemption in mind. Not to mention someone sticking a flag right in Jason Allen's arse. I will settle for one in the T as well.

Silverbritches,
Calhoun's on the River is wonderful on gameday. If you have time next trip, try Ye Ole Steakhouse. They have incredible food and is probably the one of the best places to eat in the conference. Also for a little Knoxville flavor, you might want to try one of the delis near campus. Gus', Sam and Andy's, and Vic and Bill's all have terrific sandwiches. They are dumps and the owner's of these places treat you like crap, but students and others familiar with the area love them.
What about Athens? I have been several times, but dont know the best places, though I always enjoy the trip. In Tusculoosa, Dreamland Ribs are a must. Anybody else with any ideas around the conference?

If you like wings you MUST visit Carolina Wings in Columbia. They have a list of over 30 different wing flavors. They even have have Blistering wings that you must sign a waiver for before they are served to you. I wouldnt reccomend them unless you really LOVE hot food. Their burgers and ribs are also AWESOME. I would be interested to know the best places in other SEC football towns. Good topic.

Heres to hoping that your visit to Knoxville this year is just a tad bit less enjoyable than the last two trips, I still have freakish flashbacks from 'the fumble'. I have never seen one play change a game so much, and I don't think UT had any fight in them at all when they came back out for the 2nd half. And 2001, wow, what a game, I hated the results but that game was a damn good one. So we are due to for some revenge at home against you guys.

Yep, great times. I remember how mad I was when Travis Henry I think ran that screen all the way. When we scored the winning touchdown I went crazy. One of my favorite games ever.

That was not a very cool thing to say .but you can think what ever you want, however you have to know that looking like pumpkins is hardly going to turn great athletes in the direction of a less winning team, with a less winning coach.

Now that we are done with that, Calhouns is incredible, but after the game, Barleys in the Old City. Pizza and Beer. Thats the stuff right there.

I attended UT in 1976 before the failed World's Fair. I played rugby and frequently visited Yosemite Sams. I use to love the Vols before Fulmer arrived. You talk about stabbing your head coach in the back. Go back in history and see how Phil replaced the great Johnny Majors!! Talk about integrity Fulmer has none!!!

If you want to know a good place to go in downtown Athens....... do this:

Close your eyes, hold one arm out and point straight ahead, spin around for 3-7 seconds and wherever you stop is where you go !!! Everywhere in Athens is awesome !!! But, if you must know where to go........

My favorites include Molly O'Shea's, Wild Wing Cafe, and Boar's Head

Yo Blood.... Is that You??? LOL.

Hell, I've been to K-Town.. I LOVE the Volunteer Navy and the River setting and Calhoun on the river is a fun spot... Of course I love the Classic City a little better, for obvious reasons, but both towns are nice.. I do not put any stock in these all star games.. Most plays are vanilla & there's no cohesiveness on either side of the ball.. No one wants to get hurt.. I do find it hard to believe that since Schaffer & Ainge are pretty well established as the QB's for the next 3 seasons, maybe, that another highly touted QB will want to ride the pine on Vol town..
