with how Spurrier is doing recruiting wise. Cook and Bonds committed with several others leaning our way. He seems to be going after speed rather than size as all of the skill players seem to have very good speed. I count 16 commitments so far, so that only leave room for 8 or 9 more.
On that list I presume are:
Brandyn Young - RB
Mike Davis - RB
JC Neal - WR
Tavares Kearney - LB
Jarriel King - OL
William Bergen - TE
Jonathan Hannah - TE
Derrick Marks - DL
Jamar Love - WR
Aaron Brown - WR
Mike Ford - RB
Hivera Green - DE
Hannah will probably go to UNC, but we seem to have a pretty good chance at the others. This would shape up to be a top 25 class I would think.

I hope he gets Ford.
What I like most about Spurrier so far is his attitude.
It's sort of a "ahhh....we're gonna win here anyway" attitude. That's the kind of approach we've needed at USC for a long time.
People may call Spurrier a lot of things, but they'll never call him wimpy. The man goes all out.
I hated losing to UF all those years, but I always liked Spurrier.....and I remember telling several Gator fans that on many occasions.

Spurrier has the "I don't give a da**" attitude. He knows he's the best and he wants to turn USC around just for the sheer fun of it.

Spurrier is a top drawer optimist - He expects to win and he will tolerate nothing less. I can't wait to see him on the sidelines next year. I can't wait until preseason practice next year. I can't wait until spring practice. I can't wait until signing day.... heck, I can't wait until tomorrow. :D

Stock, I think Spurrier will pull in a top 30 class which should probably be considered successful given the circumstances. He may eek out a top 25.
Either way, he seems to know what he wants, & qualifying seems to be an issue as well. He'll get a class that he & his staff can COACH, & then next year I expect him to start improving the level of talent & quality depth.
I'm excited to see what he'll do with the returning players. Spring ball should be very interesting.

Yeah, I can't wait until spring ball, but next season is going to be very, very interesting. I want to see what he will do with the QB situation at USC - as well as WR. Those will be the keys to a decent season.

I agree. That, & Summers staying healthy. I'll always feel his ankle injury vs UGA altered our offense. With Turman not producing & then Newton hurting his ankle vs UK it seemed like we could never get on track.
I don't know what to think of our WR's. I've been waiting for Whiteside to show me something, but he hasn't. Not enough anyway. I realize scheme was a part of that, but we did throw passes, & we did throw some to him.
I'm hoping that Rice can come in & produce right off the bat. That is critical. Someone else will need to step up as well. Not sure who that will be.
I can still see Newton as our QB next year. With good 1 on 1 coaching and a better scheme I think he can improve. Not sure about Mitchell. I know folks like him because he came in touted as a good passer, but he's going to have to have a good spring, & I remain concerned about his physical tools. Still, I'm sure he's coachable, but he's going to have to work to improve. I'll always consider Rathe "depth". Heffner could be the key. I'm very interested in how he performs this spring.

spurrier has a great attitude, but he's more than attitude...the guy can coach...he knows what kind of gameplan to set up, and how to adjust during a game...not just 2nd half adjustments...he can adjust during a 4 down series...he also knows how to get the best out of his players...i always thought that he recruited based on the talent he wanted for "spurrier-ball" but he also designs plays that go the strengths of his players....
NO MORE QB DRAWS!!!!

I really think that a top 30 class with SOS at the helm is worth a whole lot more than it looks like. He just knows how to develop players while they are still young. I think that was part of his problem with the 'skins, he couldn't get ahold of the guys when they were young enough for him to teach him how to do it his way.
Come on Gamecock47, can't we just have 3 or 4 a game for old times sake.

Very interesting to say the least. If Lou could win 6 games with nothing more than QB right-QB left-QB up the gut, and an ocasional pass to TW, then things look VERY INTERESRING INDEED.
TAKE NOTE of all the DB's and WR's. That in itself asys that AIR SPURRIER HAS ARIVED!
AND as far as QB's Steve is known for getting good steady play from average to UN RECRUTED QB's
To drop a few names...
**[Duke] Ben Benett, ** [U.of Fla.] - Rex Grossman - Shane Matthews
- Ingle Martin – Noah Brindise - Jesse Palmer - Doug Johnson - Danny Wuerffel
- Eric Kresser.
RIGHT NOW AT CAROLINA---> THERE IS A NEED FOR SPEED, AND IT'S BEING ADDRESSED AS WE CHAT.

I always loved Spurrier, even when he was at FLA. But, then again, I love a rebel, as I am one myself.
With speedy receivers blanketing the field, Summers will have a field day, as defenses won't be free to stonewall him (and injure him--although he seems easily injured).
I think Rice will be a major factor (as he showed flashes of brilliance before he was hurt and redshirted) and hopefully, immediately.
As with the rest of you guys, I can hardly wait to see what SOS can do with a modicum of talent. If we can have a fairly successful season in 2005, can you imagine how the recruits will be drawn like flies to our fair shores?!

Oh yes! What matters to a recruit the most is playing time and winning. That's it!

3 or 4 a game would be a 96% improvement...don't you know that defenses loved to play us...no real scouting involved...easy week of prep as they "learned" how to defend against the...ugh:mad: , QB DRAW...

I count 24 commits so far - 25 if you include Jarriel King. How many can we take? Does Mike West count on a different year? Hannah (the TE from NC) sounds like the only one left on our board.

Guys i have to tell you that if Sidney Rice plays like he did in High School you will see a WR as good if not better than TW. I am from Gaffney,SC and seen SR play in HS. He is not affraid to go get the ball. When he played in the Championship game he was the go to guy, as he was in the regular season. he is just a great talent. Will he play that way at this level, with SOS i think he is going to be a great reciever. The only thing we need is a SOS QB.

Spurrier had said before he was planning to sign 23 or 24. Guess that is out the window!! He must be saying, "while they are here, were gonna get em!". I am curious about that myself. Also, can he "borrow" scholarship money for next year to go ahead and sign recruits this year if they are available?

The QB recruits he has now are not ranked, I know, but there is obviously something about them Spurrier has seen and liked. If there is one thing he can pick, it's a QB. He was a Heisman Trophy winning QB himself!! :)

By the way, in case you didn't see, as of this morning Carolina is number 24 in recruiting, one spot behind Florida. When was the last time we saw Carolina that close to Florida in recruiting?! I think we may overtake them this week. :D

Stock, I come up with 22 not counting King. Seems like typically when coaches go over 25/85 it's because they expect to lose a few players who might otherwise be returning. Gray shirting is sometimes another reason.
Seems like we had around 22 scholarships to give coming in. Seeing as how we'll top that number my guess is we'll see some turnover. Hopefully nothing like last year though.
It'll all come out in the wash, & when it does I think Spurrier will ink a solid 1st class next month!

I actually feel pretty decent about Spurrier's recruiting class, all things considered.
If you think back to his UF teams, you really don't remember any stand out superstars. Sure, there was Hilliard, Taylor, Anthony......but those guys were more cogs in a system rather than individual stars.
It was always, always, always, Spurrier's system that left you flabbergasted and your jaw on the floor. His schemes were what made UF champions......All he needs is speed and a QB to get 'em the ball.
And hopefully, recruiting will take care of itself over time.

Well, we got the QB kid from Tenn who was originally set to go to Chapel Hill. That should boost our stock some.
As is usually the case we're in on a few that could really boost our class, or leave it as is which aint bad.

<~~~Just waiting until NSD before I comment any further. Our class could end up being better than what we have now. Only time will tell. :D

I.
Drake, don't want to say too much but I fear we don't want to put too many eggs in the Summers basket.
Some things that stand now will have to change and quick :(
On a happier note. We still have Corey Boyd. and it seems like some good running backs coming in.

Well, Summers is going to undoubtably have an entirely new role in Spurrier's system.
It will be interesting to see how Spurrier uses him.

I can't wait to see what kind of offense they run with no WRs coming back. Newton could be a WR and Boyd too if they find another TB. Also, if Whiteside ends up staying in school that might be a plus. Then there is Sid Rice. By all reports he is supposed to be a good one. I hope he can play in the spring.
