Who do you guys think will play in the SEC championship game next season?
You know, with so many new coachs it is hard to tell. Will Steve have SC ready? I think there are sooo many exciting football days to look forward to from all the SEC games. I'm a Tide fan an our first SEC game this year is at SC. That's going to be a tough game. I am so excited to watch the SEC games this year because of all these new coachs. Who do ya'll think will be in the final game?

I BEAT YOUR PREDICTION BY ONE MINUTE!
This is certainly stuff with which I can agree!
LSU over TENNESSEE in SEC Championship.
But, you know, we are going to have a lot of GOOD football teams in the SEC next year. Alabama has excellent potential. Auburn could surprise everyone. USC could really blossom beyond everyone's dream. Florida could come on like a house fire. UGA could get on track in a big way. Mississippi State might just fool us all. Arkansas has great coaching that always lifts them beyond expectations. Great conference!

I am only expecting USC to finish with 8-9 wins (Including a bowl game)TOPS! Don't get me wrong, these last few Top-25 & Top-15 recruiting classes that Coach Holtz brought in are a good foundation, maybe enough to win, but Spurrier's gonna need to build on that foundation to make it even more stabilized. :)

I am so freakin exicited about next season. I mean, I don't know about the rest of you guys, but,I like the the way things are looking with every SEC team. Two reasons: One being the obvious, bringing the NC home where it belongs. It just doesn't feel right our National Championship so far away, I am sure it is homesick. And the other reason. Good ball games. We all like to win, but like I said after that dance class UT had against A&M, winning is awesome, however I like to see an actual game maybe a little competition before the final score. With that said, Del took my answer!!!! My beloved Vols will take the east, GeauxTo's boys will show how the west was won. SEC champs.. southern california...lol..I figured that was a good answer, it worked this year when the obvious NC was denied. I would say it will probably be UF vs. Anyone's guess in the West. I would say LSU but I dont know much about their coach. Bama doesnt have the depth to keep up their level of play down the stretch, and Auburn is losing too many starters. Many people will probably call me crazy, but I would say Ark. vs. UF in the championship game. Sure they are losing Jones, but they lost a bunch of players last year. They will return a good bit of talent and with the way the West is looking it could be the perfect year for a surprise team. However, like I said it's really anybody's guess for the West.

I don't see what will be so freakin' great about LSU next year so I'm gonna say Alabama over Georgia in the SEC title game. UT has a shot at the title game but I think they might be upset by an unexpected SEC opponent and blow their shot. South Carolina will be good but not great and Florida almost always has some shot at the title game but this won't be their year.
So, the TIDE goes 9-0 in SEC and takes home the title!

Disregard previous......I definently concede that our DBs were weak last year.
That problem, however, is being corrected as we speak.
How do you figure?
If you look at the stats from last year, USC led the SEC/nation in INT's, INT's returned for TD's, etc, etc.
We have got some serious talent in our backfield and last year we were missing one of the big dawgs. Jonathan Joseph broke his foot against UGA and got a medical redshirt that year. This sucker is a BEAST! He runs a 40 in 4.3 FLAT.

See there is no guess work. These players have proven they can play. Ko Simpson led the nation in INT's and won the All-American Defensive Freshman of the Year award. (Fred Bennett was #2 in the USA) Then you have JJ that is a threat from his sheer 4.3 speed. West and Isaac are JUCO's that have committed to USC and I have heard good things about them. :)

One true freshman does not a great secondary make. You guys have a bit more work to do in that area (last in the SEC in passing offense, etc.). What's up with all the love for UT?? The QB "duo" BS, lol? How quickly we forget ref-gate.
West: LSU. They only lose seven, and Miles knows he's on the clock. He's a step down, imho, from Saban....but Nikky left a stocked Tiger team ready to roar. If "Less" Miles doesn't win the SEC--or, at least, the West--in the next 2-3 years, he'll be on the hot seat immediately, (1) because I don't think he'll have Saban's recruiting success and (2) he wasn't their top choice to replace Saban. Translation: Miles doesn't sleep from September to the end of December and wakes up in a Louisiana hosptial--admitted due to exhaustion--sometime after their bowl game. It's much easier to push a car that is already moving...LSU has momentum because of their returning talent. Miles better keep it going, b/c the SEC West isn't the Big XII South. If he stumbles early, LSU will be FedEx-ed to "also-ran" status.
East: Florida. We lose 10, but Zook was a zen-recruiter. The cupboard is far from empty, and many position losses will be plugged in by athletes who are as good, if not better, than those lost (e.g., Siler, Wynn, etc.). Also, Leak is a junior and Degory returns, which is huge. Meyer's offense also highlights UF's strengths: Leak and the receivers. Go where your bread is buttered.
Cause for concern:
UT will be Meyer's first SEC game. If UT can jump out early on offense and stop our spread attack--while UM is testing the new water--the Gators may have to come from behind to pull it out. We also have a current hole at corner that UT will try to exploit, and the idea of possibly playing a base 3-3-5 defense (that's the rumor) makes some Gators in the Swamp a bit uneasy. RIght now, we don't have that 6-8, 365-lb. nose-tackle to control the center gaps. Riggs isn't the best back UT has had, but he's good enough to do some damage.
Reality:
As for game speed, etc., I think Meyer adjusts quickly, and the very loud home crowd should give us enough wiggle room to get our footing. If we lose, it will not be because of preparation or dumb penalties. This will be the best disciplined Gator team in decades....maybe ever, and Meyer is 10-1 (I think) against BCS teams. And he did THAT with 60+-rated recruiting classes. He simply will not be out-coached. Heater has done a nice job with the corners at Utah, beating teams with better athletes at wideout. I think he shores up the secondary by maximizing the talent we do have coming back (i.e., I'd look for Grace, 6', to give us that bigger look at CB in replacing Hill).
With Mattisen as co-DC, we'll probably stick with a base 4-3...especially with our faster, and very deep, DL. That just makes more sense as a base package with our roster. We'll be able to rotate fresh players without having to give up the middle, allowing Siler and Everett to roam and read. Also, I think Meyer's spread attack will neutralize potent defensive fronts....many teams, like UT, have nice talent there, but 3 or 4 rushing 5 OL isn't the best situation, and asking them to constantly drop into coverage to help the secondary underneath against 5-wides will (1) be exhausting and (2) free up the run-draw/shovel/option game. If you run a stock Dime cover-2, you'll get behind in a hurry....there's no LB that can cover even our least-talented receiver. Meyer also dares teams to blitz him...so, that's not really an option for many teams....at least not as a principal attack scheme. If you want to blitz, it will HAVE to be a corner. Imho, teams that have safety/CB hybrids will have the best chance against UF: CBs playing bump-and-run with FF and/or SS man help will free up the variability of the blitz package while minimizing the running lanes/space. Not too many teams, though, can do that....let alone SUSTAIN it for 60 minutes of football. Last year's Pats could do it....but to the dismay of UF's SEC foes, they're not playing in the SEC. =)

I don't get the Bama picks. Their defense is terrific and they will definitely benefit from the return of Croyle. Their O-line play was second only to Auburn in the SEC this year, especially on the left side where Mathis and Britt just mauled people. No way that they have anybody ready to make that type of impact so soon. There is still some question about the availability of Kenny Darby to run the ball for them. I think that they won't be nearly as good running the ball next season, especially if they have to rely on Aaron Johns or a freshman with their rebuilt O-line.
Don't get me wrong. They should be very good, but I don't think that they will be great, not yet. You also have the question of how well the O-line can protect Croyle who is thin and a bit on the brittle side despite his considerable talent.
LSU is freaking loaded and should win the west. Bama is up-and-coming and should be second. I think Arkansas and Auburn will fight it out for third.
I am a bit biased, but I think that UT will face LSU in the championship game, but who knows since the east should be wild and wooly. This league is brutal now with exceptional talent and coaches and then there is the ole ball coach. It should be fun.

Interesting breakdown, GatorNation. I am not in total disagreement with the prediction, but we do have a couple points of contention.
First UF is loaded, but so is UT. We had the youngest team in the SEC last season and still managed to make it to the championship game. Keep in mind, that the Vols fielded two freshmen corners as well as a true freshman quarterback. That will typically get you killed in this league. They can and probably will be the popular pick in the east.
You are quite optimistic about the impact of your new coach. He does have strong credentials, but it remains to be seen if all that hybrid option stuff will work against super-quick SEC squads. Also, Leak also does not seem like the kind of qb that takes a lot of hits which could become a problem.
Also, I am not quite sure what was meant by the LOL comment regarding our qb's. I do not think that we will have a problem at that position for awhile.
Of course, the game is in the swamp which should be an advantage for your team, though as you well know, not like it once was.

I wouldn't say that Leak is overrated. I would say that he doesn't have a true go-to guy. I had the honor of watching Chris Leak play all through HS and he's one gifted athlete. I mean for crying out loud, his HS hasn't lost a game in like 5 years.
Independence HS has been pumping out college level talent as long as I can remember. Their current QB was recruited VERY heavily by Georgia and he's supposed to be a lot better than Leak. You will have to excuse me if I don't mention his name. I can't remember it off the top of my head.
Anyways, Leak needs a dependable WR to throw to and I think he will surely blossom if they fill that void.

Well, that's a good point. But it may take another year to shore up that pass defense against the passing attacks that you'll see with UF, USC with Spurs, etc. I wouldn't bet on one year of experience getting UT's secondary too far out of the SEC cellar. Could happen....who knows--and I think they'll be better--but I think UT will be much more effective when a team's gameplan involves attacking their strength: run defense and that DL. Teams that try to use the run to set up the pass (UGA) and/or control the clock--or, God-forbid, score TDs--will lose to Tennessee.
You are quite optimistic about the impact of your new coach. He does have strong credentials, but it remains to be seen if all that hybrid option stuff will work against super-quick SEC squads. Also, Leak also does not seem like the kind of qb that takes a lot of hits which could become a problem.

Some more good points....BUT Meyer did win the Coach of the Year award in the midst of some pretty stiff competition, first non-BCS team to make (and win) a BCS bowl (the first out of how many coaches??????), 10-1 against more talented BCS teams with better athletes. I think he's proven he's the real deal.....certainly more than Les Miles has.
As far as the spread-option package goes, I've said it before: Meyer doesn't have an offense. He has a philosophy.....a flexible system built on certain principles that can be molded to fit a certain personel grouping....an attack that is molded and tailored for each opponent....each week. Think of it as your own personalized 60 minutes of hell, lol. He'll do that here. Meyer knows Leak is not a runner. Leak doesn't like to get hit. That's not a problem. You're going to see more of a spread passing/HB-shovel-draw look this year....mid-range and downfield passing mixed with plenty of misdirection, screens, trick plays, reverses, etc. You're not going to see Leak run the Ace speed-option out of the gun. But don't forget: (1) Fedora ran Leak on some option looks, too. So, it's not as if Leak is completely foreign to the option and (2) super-quick defenses will have to deal with Meyer's offense being run by super-quick Gators. If people think a Gator is going to move like a Ute, they're nuts. Better athletes will be running the system.

I think he is soft.....did you watch that bowl game? How many times did you see him slide and avoid the hit instead of diving for the first down? He must think he is in the NFL. I think that Miami exposed him for being afraid to take some big hits, and his opponents next year will keep that in mind. I am still not sold on Meyer, either. Like someone else said, his run and gun offense is going to have to compete with the speed and harsh defenses of the SEC. That WAC crap is not gonna cut it agaisnt the big boys of the south. Add the fact that Fason, Crowder, Small, and Leach are all leaving. I really dont think UF is going to be that great. Like I said, UF will have at LEAST 4 losses next year.

SEC West: LSU & Auburn are prohibitive favorites, with me giving LSU a nudge because I believe they have more potential Offensive capability. IF Croyle can make it through the season, Bama will fight with Arky, the Rebs, and the Bullies to determine the other spots. All four should field better teams than their '03 editions but not realize it in wins & losses simply because no other SEC foes appear to be regressing.
SEC East: Unlike nearly all who've responded in this thread, I see yet another 3 way war of attrition between UF, UT, & UGA. All three return the bulk of their 2-deeps and while all three have individual issues for which the answers won't come until play begins, the degree of separation is so slight that only when the smoke clears will such differences be apparent. UF has Leak, with new RB, OL, & WR starters, a promising but young D, yet loses their kicking game & has a new HC to boot. UT has their young QB tandem, new OL & WR starters, the bulk of it's D back, and also loses their kicking weapon. UGA will go with Shockley, the 3 Amigo Sophomore RB's, an intact OL, & newbie WR starters and has 8/11 back on D with both kickers back. All 3 with some intrigue & promise but not one who clearly stands above the other two.
The eternally optomistic Carolina contingent can certainly be hopeful but any case they have to be mentioned as a real player will most likely not come until the midpoint in the Season when the new Evil Idiology of SOS has taken firmer root. A similar outlook for UK & VU as for their West brethren as possible improvement may not necessarily appear on their records.
Should be another riproaring Fall with plenty of highs & lows on that emotional rollercoaster for all of us fans.

I still like the GATORS to win the SEC next season and contend for the NT. (As much as it pains me to say it) I think they are loaded and have the talent to fluorish under Meyer's system. Unlike the previous posters, I like Leak and think he will have a season similar to what Campbell did at Auburn this year. Zook was a horrible "X's and O's" guy and that's where Meyer will really bring this talent together. We'll find out right off the bat as Tennessee invades Gainesville on Sept 17. If that game were in Knoxville, I'd like the Vols as these are clearly (in my opinion) the 2 most talented teams going into next season. The Vols' schedule is just too tough too early to talk about NT with them. The other 2 teams to keep an eye on are LSU and Georgia.
LSU has got tons of talent, but I feel the loss of Saban is going to hurt. Georgia is definitely flying under the radar and that makes them that much more dangerous. Richt has quietly stock-piled talent in Athens and it would not surprise me one bit to see them jump into the mix. We'll see how good of a coach Richt really is in this "rebuilding year".

I dont think Carolina will win the SEC this year, but I think they will certainly make a couple of teams have to wipe twice!!

Bama vs GA or UT in the Championship game.
Either would be a heck of a game.
Of course Bama comes out on top.
RTR! Tide in 05.

Bama will be back on top in 05. I know who I would like to see win the SEC title, but it
won't happen!!

Mad props for being a proud Vandy fan. Thats true allegiance for ya. You gotta respect someone who gives love to their team no matter what.
Anyways, take pride in the fact that most of the players in the SEC will probably be working for the Vandy players one day. :)

UT/LSU
We will win the east with no problems.

I don't know....Looking at the rosters and recruits, LSU is pretty stacked too!
I would have to lean towards LSU. They stock up on 5-Star recruits pretty good. :D

LSU is in the west.
LSU is in the west.
I know that. I was saying that if UT/LSU are in the SECCG, I would have to give the nod to LSU. :)

Oh... those sort of look like airborne wings on his left breast. Guess not. Anyway, he should crop everything out except the dog's face.

I have to say I am still so totally caught up in the 2004 season that I can't even think about 2005. I don't think Auburn will have a horrible year, but I definitely don't see us being contenders for the SEC championship game. As of right now, I have no clue as to who I expect to go to the SECCG. Whoever does a good job in the SEC, may you go undefeated and bring that dang NC trophy HOME, DANGIT!

The SEC will be very competitive next year. Six teams could be the SEC champs next year. In the East, Georgia has the upper hand because their schedule is not as tough as Florida's and Tennessee's. However, Tennessee will probably have the best team in the East and Georgia has to replace many key players, especially on defense. Although I project a loss against a very motivated Alabama team, Tennessee beats Georgia and wins in Gainesville and Baton Rouge to win the East over two-loss Georgia.
The West will be even more competitive. Auburn loses a lot on offense, but they lost several players on defense from the 2003 season and look what happened. LSU has lots of talent but has a new coach and lingering questions at QB, all issues that will iron themselves out by the end of the season. Although there will be OL concerns, Alabama will also field a good team. If Alabama wants to "get" somebody, this will be the year to do it. Determining the SEC West winner will be very messy because of tiebreakers, but at the end, LSU will be the team to emerge, as Auburn wins the Iron bowl and helps eliminate the Tide, but an earlier loss to LSU and an LSU win over Arkansas knocks Auburn out.
The title game ends up being a rematch of the September 24 game. Tennessee hands LSU its first SEC championship game loss in a very close, low-scoring game.
The SEC will be so much stronger in 2005 than it was this year. Any team coming out of league play undefeated next year should be considered the team of the decade.

If you look closely at his rank on his sleeve, you will see USAF stripes. Then above his left pocket, you see "US Air Force". :)

You can still have jump wings and be in the Air Force, but the Airborne division is Army....but the wings wouldn't be on his sleeve...just FYI :D

You are correct...but in the Air Force we call it security forces, as opposed to "MP"s...but yeah...that's one dog you don't want after you!

With 18 of 22 starters returning, I pick my Vols in the East and LSU in the West with Tennessee winning it all.
