I guess next it will be tomorrow and then next Friday and then Signing day.....Give us all a break and realize that Fulmer isn't some kind of fool that would take a stupid chance like Danny Ford, Alabama etc and break rules that blatant. Jeez people the guy was just the president of the College coaches Association elected by the coaches themselves,,,,doesn't that tell you SOMETHING, your coach at your favorite team elected him, almost unanimously by the way. Some of ya need to go drive in your sportscars and start posting facts for once....never ceases to amaze me what an idle and old enough to know better mind will come up with

We are all in agreement with you, and no one here is professing any of this to be fact. It was merely reported on this forum as a rumor, one that we ALL hope to be just that!

Yea, I'm sure Phill was up to no good with Alabama looking to turn us in at every corner. If this Wright guy really is a street agent, worst case scenario he is trying to put in his application with UT this way hoping for future benefits with no contact, money, or anything else from Fulmer. This will go down lke the grade fraud at UT where we were cleared by the NCAA. Welcome back to reality, and you can keep your dirty hands off our recruits thank you very much.

Now see...there's a thought that not ONE person has mentioned until now. Could Bama be responsible for this?

Not blaming Bama at all. Most of this rumor mill was started by Cane fans, but, we all know Bama and there fans/boosters are watching UT very closely looking for any kind of violation. They did turn UT in for taking our new enrollees to practice for the Cotton Bowl which was legal by the way. I'm just saying that Fullmer, knowing he is a marked man, would not do something this blatant and stupid. If he did, then he deserves what he gets, but I still think that worst case scenario, we might get investigated and cleared, either that or Fulmer is a total moron, and I don't see that.

Violations and scandal have happened at so many palces: Miami, Auburn, Alabama, Colorado, to name just a few...and, now, possibly Ohio State. Do you not think that Barnett, Geiger, and Tressel--for example--could have been "stupid" enough to screw up? WIth all of the scandals and violations that have taken place over the years, do you really believe that none of the HCs was responsible or aware of what was going on within the program? [...didn't Tressel have trouble at Youngstown State, too??] Let's be real. Tennessee is not beyond such things....no program is. Point of fact: it IS possible that it happened--at least until it is proven otherwise and discredited--but the "it's-Phil-Fulmer" defense doesn't mean squat. I haven't decided whether that mindset is blatant ignorance or a myopic and overly-sanguine loyalty to UT. Maybe it's a bit of both. Perhaps all of this will blow over and end up only being a rumor created by disguntled Miami fans....maybe not.
For now, let's just wait and see.

That is not a "It's Phil Fulmer" Arguement. If you look aback and read it closely, You'll see it more of a "It's common sence" arguement. A lot of people are looking at Phil right now, he has a bullseye on his back since he turned UA in. How stupid would he be to have a hand in this?
Not saying it isn't possible, just that it isn't likely.

I've read the threads on this topic and the problem is the "guilty till proven innocent" nature of this and other rumors.
Look at the defense of the rumor in this case. When the "rumored" article doesn't appear the response is "just wait" rather than an admission that there's probably nothing to it. It may have started from ESPN radio in Charlotte - (did they say that Fulmer may be fired or was that conjured up by ongoing discussion of a rumor) If no article ever appears, the response will likely be "I never said it was true". The result though is that unfounded accusations become part of the "lore". Read the posts from Bama fans here and on their own boards. They have come to believe some mythical version of UT as possibly the most crooked program in the history of CFB. UT likely has some things to be embarrassed by but due to rumor and unchallenged statements from a lawyer, many have come to accept a very distorted view as reality.
Clearly there is freedom of speech but I've seen good people attacked via "rumor" (e.g. cheating, racism, sexism) that are just rumor but once labeled; difficult to disprove. If you've seen it happen, you view this type of exchange differently.
Sure, an article may yet come out and the rumor may be true and there will be consequences. However, if the rumor is false -- there is no consequence for petuating the rumor. If this rumor is false and it for some reason does affect recruiting (real or imagined impact) guess what the new recruiting tactic will be.

I agree, but we can say the same thing about every other coach, right? That's the question: who WOULD be stupid and immoral enough to do something like this? Answer: the coaches who get caught. We would never believe [insert coach name here] would be capable of NCAA recuiting violations...until they get sloppy and get caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
Enron execs, O.J. Simpson, Gaimbi's steroid abuse, Michael Jackson's "babysitting" methodology.....who would have thought any of these people would have been stupid--and/or evil-- enough to do the much more horrific things they ended up (at least being accused) of doing?? C'mon Gator....I completely agree with your previous post and have posted numerous times that no SEC fan should be calling out anyone for potential recruiting violations. To think that violations don't occure at all SEC schools is frankly naive. That being said, you are making a huge and laughable reach comparing NCAA recruiting violations to murder, sexual indecency with a minor, and corporate scandal. True, all men are capable of "evil" (as you put it), but there's a HUGE devide between O.J. and Fulmer even if these claims are substantiated. Bad analogy!!

We've all said it's a rumor right now....and there is nothing in the general "code of ethics" that says we can't discuss it. That's very different from going around posting rumors as definitive "truth." I think we've been very responsible with this rumor thus far. And, yes, if it turns out to be false, then we can--with a clear conscience--say that we never said it was true...because we never said it was true. But it IS worth discussing. It may take a while to sort through it all. How many articles were written and posted on ESPN denying Clarett's "absurd," self-serving statements concerning OSU's impropriety? Didn't Geiger even give a statement saying the accusations were totally unfounded?
But now we know differently. More people are coming out of the woodwork. Geiger "resigns" due to "burnout." At least one player (the QB) is suspended for accepting money. Now things are starting to roll.
Look, I understand that vol fans want to defend their coach and their team. I would, too. But I don't want to see posts every morning that say, "Well, it's Tuesday morning...no breaking news in the 'Middle Tennessee State West Creek Turn-Left-By-Carl's-Broken-Down-Chevy Gazette'."
Let's just see how it plays out, k?

Yes it's perfectly fine for discussion. My point is that the act of discussing it gives it credence.
But your statement makes my point. In effect the rumor will be deemed untrue only when sufficient time has passed and nothing more comes out. As I said in the last post, this is the more troubling part - there will never be any disproving of the rumor. The rumor is in effect "true" until proven false. Forgive me for being defensive on this because I have personally seen the effects of this type of thing. It has much more to do with that than any school affiliation.
No big deal - just wanted to throw my opinion in the mix.

I think part of UT fans' defensiveness is that this will add to the list of "things UT got away with". Such as the academic fraud that was cleared by the NCAA and the "paying of Tee Martin" that has been cleared by the NCAA. It seems fans of other schools will say that Wow, UT got away with another one instead of just admitting that the initial rumor just wasn't true.

Geez, dude....I never made a "bijective" analogy. On the face of it, they're not equivalent at all....but you missed the point: we were wrong to assume that people we idolized and adored were incapable of such crime and immorality. I used those examples because O.J. and Jackson were loved and idolized by far more people--and far more intensely and exessively, I might add--than Phillip Fulmer. We expect the Dahmers and Bundys to kill people and molest children, not movie stars or recording artists. In a similar manner, we don't expect "venerable" and "respected" HCs--as he has been characterized--to participate in recruiting violations.
If someone so loved, so entrenched in--and embraced by--such a prominent, high-profile position within popular culture--like O.J. and Jackson are/were....if someone like THAT is not deterred by the ever-searching spotlight that comes with ubiquitous fame and fortune, who is then found capable of doing something so evil and horrific, why would Fulmer be deterred from recruiting violations by simply being a high-profile HC in the SEC?? Recruiting violations are certainly not the same thing as murder or molestation--and to suggest that is what I was saying is absurd--but if Fulmer did have a hand in some recruiting violations, then the shock and disappointment established by those actions would be "proportionate" to his limited fame/status/influence. That's all I was saying.
If the "Juice" can commit murder and the "King of Pop" can molest children, I can certainly envision Fulmer (or any high-profile coach) taking a risk in getting an agent to help steer some recruits his way. Get it? Good.

that was just a HUGE misunderstanding. bama went to SEC officials to ask about grey-shirts going to bowl location for practices, and they told us no. so we didn't take them to nashville with us. so then tennessee brought their grey-shirts to dallas, we were shocked. ok i admit most bama fans thought fulmer was just cheating again, but then bama online asked the NCAA about their by-laws and they found it to be legal. so because of the SEC, our grey-shirts got screwed of a week of practice, thanks SEC
