View Full Version : SEC Football Teams?
Here's a topic that no one has probably ever seen before. How about one fan from each SEC school put down one known NCAA Infraction that their school's football team has committed. Severity is of no importance. I'll start it off.
University Of South Carolina
Date: 1/8/67 (Only NCAA Violation)
Violation: Institutional control/Improper Benefits
Penalty: 2 yrs TV ban, 2 yrs Probation, 2 yr Bowl ban

It's amazing we got by with that steroid thing in the 80's without much fuss from the NCAA.

Well...for starters, there wasn't any regulations on the books covering that per the NCAA. Plus, I don't think it was big like everyone made it out to be. A player here and there.

South carolina has only had one NCAA infraction? Thats pretty good especially when you compare it to other SEC schools.

That's the only infraction for football. The Basketball team has two.

University of Alabama

Payment of large sums to the high-school coach of a prospective player
Penalty: Public reprimand and censure
5 years of probation
2 years of bowl ineligibility / preseason ineligibility
Scholarship grants limited to 17/25 in 2002-03, 18/25 in 2003-04, and 19/25 in 2004-05
Total scholarship players limited to 80 for 3 years, instead of 85
Paid visits reduced by 22 in 2001-02, by 12 in 2002-03, and by 10 in 2003-04
Limited to 6 coaches recruiting at one time through December 2002
Disassociated one athletics representative for 10 years, a second for 5 years, and a third for 7 years
Plus, internal changes to emphasize NCAA rule compliance to faculty/students/alumni/etc
This one hit us HARD! :p It is shameful that past coaches have let things of this nature happen with our program. But I truly think that Shula is the right guy to turn our program back into one of honesty/respect for the game.
The name "Shula" means something....

The only scandals we ever have are in our politics which pretty much cover any allegations or wrongdoings (or misunderstandings as WarEagle says) which might come up in our athletic programs.

The steriod thing was made a big deal because Tommy Chakin wanted someone else to blame other than himself.

Free and/or reduced price pirogues for everyone -- penalty: reduction in training table food.
Free mosquito candles for dorm rooms -- penalty: relinquish pirogues.
Free swimming in campus lakes -- penalty: get back only one pirogue for whole team.
Free crawfish, shrimp, and catfish -- penalty: relinquish the last pirogue.
So, you see, we've had punishment up the yeng-yang!

thats fine to bring up. i think it goes with saying and understood before hiring. doesn't matter you don't like him or that you think he will be the biggest bust in the sec. the more you worry about him lets me know something. nobody worried about ole miss for a long time. i like the idea

Yeah...remind me again who's getting the recruits and who isn't?
Remind me again how many coaches turned the Ole Miss job down before you all SETTLED for Orgeron? 5?
Petrino
Willingham
Erickson
Zook
Johnson
That speaks wonders. :D There were even rumors of a HS coach being in the mix. Sad so sad.

recruiting is getting better by the day. not to say ole miss will do better than they have already but it is looking good and denying that is wrong

We have more 4 & 3-Star Athletes than you all have in total commits. Looks like the "Nation's" best recruiter is not doing a very good job.

Other than the Eli years, the only good teams in recent years to come out of Miss. were the State teams with Pig Prather and PorkChop Womack. The key to success is clearly to recruit more players with pig-related names, and I feel quite confident there are plenty of them in the area. Just a nice little recruiting hint for Orgeron in the next few years.

OK just cause Hal messed up a lot of things at UK doesn't make us worse than USC <hehe at Deloreanfan1> lol
We are going to get our Football Team back in gear but after a big blow it does take time for a good team to get on its feet. Even if it takes years for any smart remarks to follow my posts..lol

If that's how you believe, then that just nullified your opinion on Ole Miss' recruiting class. :D

Let's play numbers: (Since 2000)
Vs. Vanderbilt
USC: 18 pts per win. (5 wins)
OM: 5.8 pts per win. (5 wins)
One word...OUCH!
As for "Shallow Hal" allow me to quote you:
one i am enjoying what i am seeing with recruiting.
Then in the same sentence you said:
third recruiting is paper. otherwise tenn would win the natl title every year.
Those are two (2) totally contradictional statements. The first sentence you say you're pleased with recruiting and then you say "recruiting is all paper."

When was the last time yall beat us? Would 1999 sound right? Before then, 1995? :D
This past season we had a fluke win, but we won. We were playing our 4th string QB and our starting tailback was out. Go figure?

take it as you like about ole miss. now use your same words for recruiting for the gamecocks. or whatever. as for vandy, yes our games are close. always have been. seems there is always a tough game on the schedule that is an under-rated game (whether that is om/vandy or usc/ky). that is the great thing about college football. who knows what team will rise to the game. sorry del, don't look for a spurrierundefeatedteam this year. or next year. or the year after. yes usc may win the sec east but usc won't have a better record than ole miss did when LSU won the title. So don't bring up Ole Miss hasn't been to atlanta thing

I wasn't going to bring it up. You and I both know the answer so that's irrevelant. Not to burst your bubble, but since 2000, USC has averaged 10.8 pts per win against Kentucky. It would appear that we beat our "pansies" more decisively than you beat yours. :D
As for as many wins that Ole Miss had. I believe that answer is "9" during regular season play. Do you really think that USC couldn't pull out a 9 win season with Steve Spurrier as head coach?

i take it you have little respect for ky. ole miss has respect for vandy. they show up for that game period. as for the other, ole miss went 7-1 in sec play. i dare usc to do that. yet, at 6-2 usc could win the sec east

In football, UK has to earn our respect. Just like we are going to have to earn UT's. :D
Well...if what you are saying earlier is true about USC winning an SEC title, that wouldn't help your argument.
OM's last SEC Title was in 1963. That is exactly 42 years. Now USC joined the SEC in 1992. That means USC would have until 2033 to win a SEC Crown and still come out better than Ole Miss. OUCH! :D
