First off, much of this great recruiting news was first reported by Roger Coggins and the staff of GSC. This is not a C&P.
According to a source USC's visits this weekend are going very well. After they toured the campus they went to watch the USC-UGA B-Ball game, in which USC dominated UGA I might add :) . I beleive we will land 4-6 commits either this weekend or within the next week. A lock for us is William Bergen that I beleive will commit very soon ( you heard it here first). I also think we will get Lemeul Jean-Pierre, Tavaras Kearney, Brandyn Young, and Jared Cook.
We are making a large inpact with top cornerback Avery Atkins and Roderick Battle, who I am hopeing we can turn from UGA. I am also hopeing we can some how get JC Neal, Kerry Bonds, and Hiveria Greene.
Also, in case you did not know USC now leads for a top wr OJ Murdock and Carlos Thomas according to a source. This is huge for USC. Steve is doing somthing right!
Bergen has been big on USC for what about 3 weeks now? Ever since he went to visit Pitt and the coach wasn't even there! :D

OJ Murdock and Carlos Thomas would be HUGE additions to our team. I think we have a pretty good chance at landing Hivera Green.

USC has picked up Gerrod Sinclair, Yvan Banag, and Jared Cook. WilliamBergen has not yet commited but said he is about 99% sure he will commit to USC very soon. Also DB Josh Walker has confirmed that he plans to commit to USC on his visit next week. Unfotunately we have had a commitment, Chris Singleton, dropped from out list due to SAT issues. There are many recruits that look good for us now including Jean-Pierre, Battle, who said USC and UGA was now 50/50, Tavaras Kearny, we made huge progress w/ JC Neal, and much much more! It is a very good weekend for USC!

Wow this is great stuff. I've missed all this since AST went down. Im getting really antsy about the next few weeks, heck even days!!!!!! Does anyone know Atkins' situation? Is it down to any certain number of schools? Is there any edge?

I believe that Atkins has Florida and USC rated equaly and they are the final two.

IMHO, Bonds and Greene and Neal are 3 kids that this team could use next year as freshmen.

All this is well and good, and I am happy to see the recruiting going well, but I really believe that you cannot make any judgements of how good we will be next year and going foward based on the recruits. Bottom line is development. We can get the so called best recruits and still end up 5-6 losing to Clemson for the bowl bid. Granted I think with better initial talent probably comes better awareness on the field, but you still have to develop the players, because ultimately they all want a chance at the NFL. If Holtz had some highly ranked recuiting classes in the past why did we end up 5-7? And I think a lot of the development is mental. South Carolina, with help from the media, is known as a mediocre team, a team that cannot win the big game. I say lets wait and see if SC can beat a Florida, or a Tennessee. Then we can say Spurrier recruited well and got the right fit. I think some of the players Holtz recruited did not fit his style of play. Nevertheless, I have my airline tickets for Sept 3 against UCF.

Its not SS's first year I am concerned about. I think we will win 6-8 games just because he is new and Fulmer and Richt are the only SEC coaches left who coached against him so we will surprise some people. I also expect to see improvement in special teams and I doubt we will be blown out by anybody except maybe Auburn.
Its his second year that I am concerned about. Once everyone has seen his stuff will he be able to improve the team and bump up recruiting to get us to the next level? Will this turn out to be a "high tech Holtz" or will SS get it done. Its the 2nd and 3rd and 4th years that will tell us that.

Just because people have an idea of his plays doesnt mean they will be able to stop him. With the types of running backs we have now and are recruiting along with the types of receiver we are recruiting it will be much easier said than done. I expect Summers' numbers to increase just because defenses are spreading out and not stuffing the hole every play. Our defense will probably be among the best in the nation after a few seasons, with some improvement coming this season. That is just speculation but given the coaching experience on the defensive side of the ball it could easily happen. As far as recruiting it should vastly improve in the next few years now that Spurrier and staff will have time to watch players over time and decide which ones will fit best in their plan. I think that if Holtz were still here we wouldnt be getting half the attention we're getting from prospects now. Either way we have some exciting seasons to look forward to.

Correctamundo!!!
Everyone knew his plays at Florida. Did they stop him on a regular basis? Nope! :)

People rarely ever stopped him at Florida. Have no reason to think people are going to do any better now.

Are you implying that Carolina is the elephant's burial ground, that this is where all good coaches come to die?
The time is long overdue for us(c) to become another Virginia, VA Tech, or Florida State, Miami, etc.: teams that were once down but are no longer.
Only time will tell. On the positive side, the type of recruits that LOOK at your program are the type of recruits that COMMIT to your program. And THAT list is impressive. Even Lou Holtz didn't bring in such an impressive list as this.
[Let's all hold hands and pray together.]

Rabid, I agree with you on recruiting. I am very, very impressed with what OBC has done in such a short time. Its encouraging to say the least. I like seeing him go after these skill players because that is where we were weak under Holtz.
Another difference I see is that Spurrier likes speed and quickness over sheer brute size and strength. You gotta be able to run to make the play and while we had some fast players overall our team quickness was at best average under Holtz.

Stock, you're right on with there being a difference in the type of players per (his) system requirements.
Only time will tell.------I'm optimistic. (Have you EVER met a Gamecock pessimist? It's kind of a misnomer, wouldn't you agree!: a paradox, if ever I saw one.)
