Well...Coach Richt had the most talent that program has had in years this past year. It all depends on recruiting.

As for David Greene, I do not know...I am expecting a slight drop-off this year due to the NFL Draft/Graduation.

If it depends on recruiting, Richt had an Elite Program heading upwards.

They are tearing up UGA's area with 4-5 Star recruits. WOW

Richt on average, has underperformed considering the talent he had. This past season is a prime example.

I agree that he underperformed this year. I was at the Auburn/Georgia football game and AU just completely shut them down. I didn't think it would be that easy for Auburn. I dreaded that game all year long because of the talent on UGA's team.

They are going to drop off next year. Look at just a few of the players they are losing;

Brown
Pollack
Greene
Gibson
Thurman
Davis
Jean-Gilles ?
Anderson ?

All of the players listed above are some serious playmakers and UGA cannot replace experience.

LOL, Richt has won more then any other SEC Coach and 4th most in the entire country since 2002 with 2 East Titles and an SEC Title but has under-performed.

Give me a break. Sounds like a jealous rival. :D

I don't get this argument. You think Auburn fans would be pumping up UGA and then saying "Hey, we beat them" but since UGA isn't that good....doesn't help Auburn's NC case :D :D

No one said Georgia wasn't a good team. I just said they have underperformed to their talent level.

With the talent that Georgia has/had, there's no reason why they shouldn't have more than 1 SEC Title.

Ask any Georgia fan about Richt's clock management skills too.

The talent UGA had was good....far from Miami-type NFL talent. You are over-exaggerating their team to make a failing point.

4th most winning coach in NCAA CFB since 2002 with a Conference Title and 2 East Titles in just 4 years.

Richt had made mistakes.....ok? Every coach has including Stoops, Fulmer, and Coker.

Remind me again how this is a down year in the SEC and he can't even win his division with all of the talent at UGA?

So Auburn and Tennessee were not good teams? Of course they were.....Georgia lost to Tenn on a fluke game, IMO (though the game reminds of 2001 where UT should have beaten them).......and Auburn.

9-2.....geez, it is not that bad.....

I have to agree with you Del. I dont think you are saying they are a bad team, just that they havent lived up to their potential. For the last 3-4 years in the preseason polls UGA has been of the teams considered to be a contender for a national championship. Greene and Pollack came back for their senior season because they thought this might be the tyear that they win it all. To have those types of players for that period of time they probably should have done better than they did. Its not gonna get any easier with the way the East is gonna start looking,

UGA is one of the most LOADED teams in the nation. They have had outstanding recruiting classes for the last 3 years and this year's class will be another Top 5. They are one of the top 5 or 6 schools in the entire nation in number of wins over the last 7 seasons and next year will be no different.

The UGA team was made up to be a NC team by the media and went 9-2 with an outback win.

Whether anyone here wants to admit it or not, Richt had put together a damn good program and recruiting class....to say he was over-rated last year would stick but over-rated as a program has nothing whatsoever to it with 2 East Titles and an SEC Title behind him. Add in that UGA had LSU's year exactly but had 2 undefeated teams ahead of him and he could have played for the NC had he waited a year....

D. J. Shockley is the heir apparent. Look for the offense to be adjusted to take advantage of his skills.

Georgia will be in the run in the forseeable future. Whether any teams win a NC depends on a lot of uncontrollable factors. For example, Auburn goes undefeated in the SEC, but don't get the opportunity because of the patsy Big 12.

I have a lot of respect for Richt...in fact I dreaded having tickets to the AU/GA game because I thought all season long that Georgia would whip us. I held my breath the entire game and didn't get too excited until the 4th qtr. clock read 00:00. I know that David Greene and David Pollack and several others are awesome football players and will do well in the NFL. I don't think Richt executed the plays as well as he could have. I think on any given day that Georgia could have beaten Auburn. That was why I was so shocked when we won 24-6. I have a lot of respect for Georgia and for Richt. I think he is a good coach, but no, I don't think that he made all the right decisions this year. I think his team could have gone undefeated. I don't know that I can say they would have won a National Championship b/c heck, Auburn went undefeated and still didn't get that. I think that Georgia's loss to Tennessee had a lot to do with some bad referee calls. I wish Pollack and Greene the best of luck in the NFL.

Objectively, UGA should continue to be a Top 15 program or better for the forseeable future. Given the time necessary to fully appreciate Richt's system design and continual refinement, the program is as sound as its been since the Dooley era. We'll see how his recruits pan out beginning this year as the team will, save but a couple, be all his guys.

DJ Shockley inherits the QB spot, but not without some competition from
Jr. Joe Terishinski or the future heir, RSFr. Blake Barnes.

While I do agree that he has some definite issues to address (ie - clock management, hiring an offensive coordinator, becoming more aggressive on offense), he has truly elevated our programs on all fronts. Top recruiting, 10 wins or better 3 years in a row, top 10 each of the last 3 years, better academic performance on the team, developing high character young men, etc. 2005 will be a real test for CMR and his staff. They will have the opportunity to prove they can coach at the highest level.

Before last year, he led the SEC in wins since 2001....was 4th in the country as well......enough said really.
