Oh...

I forgot...

Like every season that has ever been played in D-1A college football, the season ended before being completed.

My bad.

If they ever do the playoffs in college ball, I hope they keep it to conference champs only and keep the bowls for the others. Ok, use the big bowls for the playoffs but keep the carrot there for the players and fans to enjoy. The trip and playing another team rarely played is fun for all. Plus it makes more money for the city the bowl is in due to not many can afford to go to bowl after bowl after bowl in the same year.

I agree about conference champs going, but I've never been in favor of a true playoff. I have always liked the BCS+1 system. :)

It has been extremely tough to be an Auburn fan this season and not be able to reach number 1 even though Auburn accomplished everything that others said they wouldn't. Auburn hasn't been asking for someone to hand them the trophy, but we do think that we should have been a contender. To go undefeated in the SEC and then win the SEC championship and then win in the Sugar Bowl should have proven something. We wanted a chance to play Southern Cal. I definitely think that Auburn would have given USC a better game than Oklahoma. I hope that the BCS irons out its kinks and has a better system for when there are so many undefeated teams. It is very hard on players, coaches, and fans to know that it was out of our hands all along.

If Leinart stays, they have a good shot. If he doesn't, they're toast.

BTW: Who decided it was a 3-peat?

If I'm not mistaken, last year they won the worthless "paper" AP Championship and this year they won the BCS MNC.

I am in favor of any SEC team winning it all in 2005. Of course, my top 2 choices would be Auburn or South Carolina, but if I can't have that, then I want my conference to win it. I don't think Southern Cal will be that great next year. I think they were good this year, but I think a lot of their wins (in the 4th quarter) were because things happened to go in their favor.

USC will call it a threepeat and so will the AP writers. personally i think that if Auburn didnt win part of the title this year they shouldnt count USCs when the shared it with LSU

Very good point, jbryant. Southern Cal fans have said that Auburn players and fans are "whining" about not winning it. If memory serves me correctly, they pitched some fits last year as well and got their way.

Bingo! See...The AP title doesn't mean anything and I'll tell you why:

1. First of all, the busiest day for a sports writer is Saturday. They are preparing their stories for the Sunday paper and covering the games of their local colleges and universities. So how are they watching all of the games around the country?

2. A lot of the AP is in Southern California so you expect a little biased reporting, but not this much.

3. Before the season started last year, all schools and such agreed that the BCS decided the MNC. Well, when it appeared that the writers "lacky" (Southern Cal) wasn't getting into the big dance, they abandoned the BCS and crowned their own champion before LSU and Oklahoma played their game. So you see what I'm getting at? Southern Cal and the AP started this joint championship crap.

4. What does it say on the AP Trophy? It says: "Assoc. Press National Champion." The ADT Trophy says: "College Football National Champion."

5. Who knows the teams best? A bunch of hacks that write about football or people that coach and actually play the top teams?

6. The original BCS took the "human bias" element out of the equation. The AP didn't like that at all, so they changed it and gave the polls a full 1/3 in the calculations.

Just food for though.....

It is very hard on players, coaches, and fans to know that it was out of our hands all along.

Thank you, Girl.

The fact is that it is not just out of Auburn's hands, but all hands of every one of the 117 teams in D-1A.

You see... until we have a real playoff with champions only, we will never crown a REAL national champion.

If any team is allowed in that did not win their own championship, then it will be bogus.

If any team gets to play simply because a few people 'voted' for them in some poll, then it will always be bogus.

If any team gets to play simply because a few computers were fed a ton of numbers, stats and other information and popped-out two or three names, then it will always be bogus.

In other words...

If it is not WON ON THE FIELD OF PLAY IN EVERY WAY, then it is a bogus system and whatever championship comes out of it will only be mythical.

And if this champions only playoff does not include EVERY CONFERENCE that has a legit shot, then it is a bogus system and whatever championship comes out of it will only be mythical.

I have grown long tired of this crap we have now and have had forever, and I'm doing all I can about it now. I am working with people in the journalism field and I am contacting coaches and others who can someday make a difference.

The polls have got to go.

The computers have got to go.

The bias has got to go.

Champions only should play on the field to crown a true national champion.

'Nuff Said!

A high school senior who lives in Opelika (close to Auburn) started a new championship trophy this year. It is called the People's National Championship and is voted on by the fans. Go to this site to see it. I think it is a very good idea and I hope the idea catches on.... www.fanspoll.com By the way, Auburn won it this year, so we did win a national championship...the People's National Championship! We will take it!

I've seen that site before....If the guy could get a serious corporate sponsor, he could actually make it work.

Sad that everyone wants a playoff except......the people that run it.

I believe ABC showed a poll before the National Title game and it had 97% wanting a playoff.

Ding Ding Ding you idiots!

The People's National Championship trophy will be presented to Tommy Tuberville and his team during halftime of the Auburn/Tenn basketball game in Auburn on January 29th by Jim Donnan. I know it doesn't mean as much as the AP or Coaches trophy, but it is better than nothing!

Girl...

Actually, it means just as much as the AP and Coaches trophy... because they are ALL mythical.

As I explained above... unless it is won on the field with every 'champion' of every conference having an even shot, then it will never mean anything.

The NCAA should force the Pac 10 and Big 11 and ACC and the rest to enlarge to at least 14 teams or more until we have 8 super conferences, and then those all split into two divisions with a championship game played at the end of the regular season just like the SEC and Big 12 do, and then those 8 champions should play for a real title.

And, yes... Notre Dame and Navy would be forced to join conferences.

I tell ya... we are being robbed of seeing some fantastic games every season... just like this season being robbed of seeing Auburn and Utah and USC play on until someone actually wins the thing on the field of play.

My plan would keep the bowl games just like they are now, and would add only THREE GAMES at the end of the season.

How can anyone who agrees with the +1 deal they are talking about be against adding just two more when my plan would crown a REAL champion and the +1 would still not crown a real champion that is won on the field with champions-only invited?

Yes I can see how it could mean just as much as the AP and Coaches #1 trophy. What I meant was that it won't get as much attention in the record books, newspapers, television, etc. as the others. I am just very proud of my football team this year. College football to me is as big of a deal as it is for most men! This whole thing has just ticked me off!
