To Schaeffer and Ainge. I am the starting QB now, you better come to spring practice ready to take it away. Interesting and probabley correct.
I, just like everyone else had written him off. I think, to be honest, he just wants it more and I believe next season, if UT wants to win 10 games, they will start Clausen, it's funny, a clausen at QB from 2000-2005, funny....

Clausen has really stepped up to it. I'm really impressed with his performance.

I think once Ainge or Schaeffer learn the entire offense Like Clausen, he will be back to 2nd/3rd string.
I think it was great to have a #3 like Clausen, we werew very fortunate to have Clausen, don't misunderstand, but why I think he won't be the starter after next Spring:
Clausen's up side is his knowlege of the system.
Ainge has arm strength, quick release, great escaping ability
Schaeffer has fast legs, more arm strength than Clausen
Both freshmen have a little bit more accuracy too.
I really am proud of Clausen and the way he stepped up, and the way he knows our system, I'd like to see him as a coach for UT someday, but he will lose the starting position next year, before the first snap of the season.

I heard that Brent Schaeffer is transferring.

All that training that Clausen got at LSU is beginning to pay off... ;)

Realistically, I'm afraid, it only shows how bumpkin offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher at LSU lacks the ability to develop quarterbacks! JeMarcus Russell (best qb in Alabama high school football) should be grooving by now. Matt Flynn (best qb in Texas high school football) should be grooving by now. Rick Clausen is grooving because he has new coaching.

An interesting point.

I have been hearing that since the first time we played Auburn.

Clausen is good and understands the offense better but Ainge has the cannon arm. Ainge will learn the offense by next fall and that gives Tenn the backup they need. Last year Tenn started w/o a qb and next year have what they need. Yet, Shaff will be gone.

Clausen is Casey's brother who went to LSU, right?

The Knoxville News quoted Schaeffer this week as saying he is not transferring. However, he did say that he had contemplated doing so several months ago.

Right. Clausen was number 4 behind Marcus Randall, JeMarcus Russell, and Matt Flynn. He never showed much at all at LSU. But, of course, he was pretty much neglected, I think. And, from the looks of things, Jimbo Fisher and his QB coaches haven't gotten the job done with anybody. I'm hoping Les Miles will make some changes at offensive coordinator. Fisher, in my book, is really over rated. I sat through several series this year when he called a run on 3rd and 23, etc. I have no confidence in Fisher.

Speaking of the Clausen's, whatever happened to Casey?

QB on the scout team for the Titans. KC Cut him in their last cut and the Titans picked him up.

Hey guys...this is my first post...but that's beside the point.
Anyways, I was absolutely impressed with what Clausen was able to do with the ball in the last few games even with the close games with Vandy and Kentucky. As for next year I think Ainge and Schaeffer will definitely have a run for their money but overall Ainge comes out of the Locker Room to start the first game. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Clausen get's more playing time than he did this year earlier in the season. That's the way I see the whole thing, and to tell ya the truth, no matter who starts we are sitting pretty in the QB position at the start of next year.

I agree about UT being stacked. The only thing I'm wondering is how long Schaeffer is going to stay once he gets knocked down on that depth chart.

Schaeffer wants to stay at UT and the staff is looking into making him a multi-role player. They want to give him some looks at a kick and punt returner, but still keep him in the mix at QB in case people start getting hurt again next year.....
Thats what they are saying on AM radio in Knoxville, anyways. Personally, he can leave for all I care. He doesn't have near the talent that the other guys do. We have Ainge, R. Clausen, and the #2 QB recruit in the country coming in. If I were him, I would leave too.
The only teams in the SEC I could really see him going to are Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia, Bama and maybe LSU.

I think more likely it has most to do with the fact that Rick put on over 25 pounds of muscle since he left LSU. He still has the same "happy feet" syndrome and weird pass delivery, but nobody ever doubted his guts at LSU. He wasn't asked to leave LSU--Nick Saban said that he asked him to stay, because he did think he could eventually compete for a starting job. Glad he's doing well at UT. It will be real interesting if he's the QB when Tennessee comes to Tiger Stadium this year.

You make some good points, but I still hope Jimbo is history. Russell and Flynn have too much talent to not be doing better than they are. I think it was a lack of good coaching at the QB position. If Rick Clausen is the Tennessee QB when they come to Baton Rouge, he know's what to expect. If Ainge is the QB, he will learn about getting popped hard. By the way, LSU is still in the running for Ryan Perrilloux, the hot-shot QB from the New Orleans area (West Jefferson, I think) who has narrowed his choices down to Texas and LSU, and it was announced yesterday that both Niswanger and Whitworth will be returning to the offensive line next year. In a word, the Tigers are loaded for 2005 and should be the SEC champs. Lots of tough games, but some of the harder foes are at home (Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, & Arkansas). I look for the SEC championship game to be a rematch between the Vols and the Bayou Bengals. Here's the 2005 schedule:
09/03/05 North Texas Baton Rouge
09/10/05 Arizona State Baton Rouge
09/24/05 Tennessee Baton Rouge
10/01/05 Mississippi State Starkville
10/08/05 Vanderbilt Nashville
10/15/05 Florida Baton Rouge
10/22/05 Auburn Baton Rouge
11/05/05 TBD Baton Rouge
11/12/05 Alabama Tuscaloosa
11/19/05 Ole Miss Oxford
11/26/05 Arkansas Baton Rouge
