I just had a thought. You know, Rocky Top is the state song of TN, and UT's official fight song is "Down the Field". Could it be that they just didn't realize what they were doing after the game? Maybe they played it as a tribute to the state in which the game was played, unknowing that UT plays it as a secondary fight song?
It is a thought, and I hope this is the case, as I think otherwise would be a very classless act... a lot like Rammer Jammer..

WAIT A MINUTE!
Y'all play Rocky Top 40+ times a game and you think us playing Rammer Jammer is classless. We can play what we want to as can y'all but don't y'all think Rocky Top every 2 minutes might drive someone mad. Rammer Jammer is just a fight song that is used against every team we play. The Alabama program is a Class act and one that should be respected. We can't help that we ain't all buddy buddy with the NCAA like y'all.

And there it is. No more complaining about Minn's band playing what they want. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

We arn't seriously resorting to arguing over what the band plays are we? I know the season is over, and there no more bad calls to fuss about, we are all sad, I know, but we can get through it. Not long until it will start again, I promise.
BTW If you think its bad watching a game on TV. Try living 5 min from campus when every radio station plays every version ever made of Rocky Top ALL DAY on game days. You can't even go to Ihop. I think they would play it a church if they could figure out how to incorporate it somehow into the service. :)

Demonte Bolden and Josh Briscoe were included on the UT travel roster and took part in team practices in Texas. Meanwhile, Alabama, all the while believing it was in accordance with NCAA rules, didn't take prep school transfer Lionel Mitchell, a former teammate of Bolden's at Hargrave Military Academy, and grayshirts John Parker Wilson and Drew Davis to Nashville for the Crimson Tide's match-up with Minnesota.
The Alabama coaching staff was apparently miffed by the contradiction, which led to UA compliance director Chris King making a call to the Southeastern Conference in an effort to get further clarification on the matter.
King's interpretation of NCAA bylaw 14.1.8.1.1, entitled "Practice Prior to Initial Enrollment", had head coach Mike Shula under the belief that Mitchell, Wilson and Davis would be eligible to participate in the Tide's on-campus bowl workouts, which they did. However, it was also King's belief that the three players would not be allowed to travel with the Tide to the bowl site or participate in its Nashville practices. King's final interpretation came on the heels of a previous translation, which he offered in early November. At that time, King, whose experience with bowl games from a compliance standpoint is limited to the 2004 Music City Bowl, stated that NCAA rules prohibited Wilson and Davis from participating in any of the Tide's bowl workouts.
For those wondering, bylaw 14.1.8.1.1 reads this way: A student-athlete may practice during the official vacation period immediately preceding initial enrollment, provided the student has been accepted by the institution for enrollment in a regular, full-time program of studies at the time of the individuals initial participation; is no longer enrolled in the previous educational institution; and is eligible under all institutional and NCAA requirements.
On Monday, BOL spoke with two NCAA representatives, both of whom provided the governing body's interpretation of the rule and how it applies to mid-year prep school transfers and grayshirts.
"In the cases of the student/athletes you described, they would be allowed to participate in both on-campus and bowl site practices as long as they have been accepted as full-time students for the spring term," an NCAA representative told BOL. "As long as they do that, they can start practicing the day after fall term finals have been completed. They can also travel with the team and practice at the bowl site.
"The key is the full-time acceptance for the spring semester."
Mitchell told BOL in an interview prior to the start of Tide bowl practices that he had been accepted by UA, while Wilson and Davis attended classes at Alabama on a part-time basis during the fall semester.
As for King, he said on Monday that he received confirmation from the SEC's compliance office that his final interpretation of the bylaw was correct. It should be noted that the SEC does not supplement bylaw 14.1.8.1.1 with legislation of its own. King added that he did not check with the NCAA before handing down his final interpretation of the rule to the Alabama coaching staff.
Despite the NCAA's comments on the issue, King believes his office handled the situation correctly.
"I might eventually be proven wrong, but I stand by our interpretation that it's a violation," said King, who came to Alabama in June of 2002 after stints at Central Florida, Liberty and Campbell. "If I'm wrong, I've got some coaches who are going to be mad at me."
In the eyes of the NCAA, King's contention doesn't hold water.
"I can see why they might argue that it does," the NCAA rep said, "but unless there is a conference rule that states something different than the NCAA bylaw does, I can also see where they're incorrect."
In addition to missing out on the trip, Mitchell, Wilson and Davis were held out of the Tide's five Nashville practices that led up to the Music City Bowl.
Freshmen participating in bowl practices isn't something new to the SEC. Just one year ago, three incoming Georgia freshmen -- quarterback Blake Barnes, wide receiver A.J. Bryant and running back Danny Ware (another Hargrave alum) -- joined the Bulldogs in December for Citrus Bowl practices. The trio also traveled with UGA to Orlando, where they participated in bowl site practices.

Take it as it is, a joke on how we could work the song into our services. You don't think the big guy has a since of humor? look at a platypus or a giraffe. Big guy has a Big sence of humor.

Me and my buddies were watching the OU thrashing last night and were talking about the vols playing rocky top so much. We came up with a commercial that has Peyton doing normal things like going to a grocery store. When he gets his order rang up the cashier tells him that he has save $2.71 on his bill. All of a sudden the Vols band starts playing over the store intercom and everyone else in the store start singing the chorus of rocky top. Then the store managers carry Peyton out to his car on their shoulders.

Minnesota's band director wrote a letter appologizing if they offended Bama fans. It was unintentional. They played it because of the hospitality of Tennessee people at the bowl game. Last year, they played The Yellow Rose of Texas at the Sun Bowl. I was not offended anyway, but all is forgiven.

anybody who believes that alabama football is a classless program needs to take a long hard look at their own programs. Rammer Jammer, as was pointed out earlier, played regardless of what team we are playing. However, the one point that was not made is this; it is ONLY played after we beat the socks off of an opponent. People need to remember this before u start bashing a program for being classless.

I came up with my own version of Rocky Top although I can't post it on here! I sing it whenever South Carolina or Auburn plays Tennessee. Ahhh, it does a body good!
