That would put Florida St. in a heck of a predicament. All the major coaches have accepted positions. Who could they turn to?

I don't know yet. Like I said, the moment I hear anything new, I'll pass it down.

All I'm being told right now is that Mr. Bowden is having some health problems and he is considering retirement after the bowl game.

I would really hate to see him go. I have enjoyed watching the Noles explosive offense's. Man...I must be getting old.

Wow that would be a shocker to see Bowden retire. I consider him one of the all time greats. Its amazing the level he has taken Florida State too. I tell ya what if he does retire I sure do feel sorry for whomever is following in his footsteps. Its going to be a Ron Zook all over again cept 100 times worse.

Yeah, but I think his health and the state of FSU (Free Shoes University) is going to cause him to retire. I don't think he wants to drag FSU down like Mr. Paterno did at Penn St.

Very good point. Diffrence is tho that FSU is still a national power and still winning ball games. If its health reasons then hey you gotta do what you gotta do. I just really hope its not and that he stays cuz I really think hes a good thing for FSU and college football.

It hasnt really been that long I dont think. I know playing Miami so early gave them a serious shot against that but I'm thinkin they have been a contender in the last 5 yrs atleast. Heck Penn State hasnt really been a contender since that season they went undefeated with Kerry Colllins , Ka-jana Carter, and Bobby Engram. They woudl probably love to be where FSU is now.

If you really look at it, FSU has progressively gotten worse over the years.

Have they really been getting worse or is everyone else gettin better?

Maybe a little of both.

they just aren't as dominant as they used to be.

I agree with you there. Atleast they are still atleast a 8 -9 win team every year tho and thats a great achievement.

I just hope they dont end up like Penn ST yanno. I hate seeing Penn like they are now. I remember back when I was little watchin Alabama vs Penn St and Alabama vs A&M. I really wish Bama would get them both back on the schedule.

LMAO , its not so bad man.

Anyways, I think he is going to step down. Have you noticed that FSU's LB coach has turned down 3 HC job offers in the last year? Why is that? Is it because he may be Bowden's successor?

Probably so, hes probably loyal and just knows when Bowden leaves hes going to get the spot. If I'm not mistaken Bowden has a lifetime contract with FSU doesnt he?

They don't call it a "Lifetime" contract. He has a contract, but he has a "Lifetime" roll-over.

I figured it was something like that.

Now that's showing loyality to a coach that has given so much to your program. I remember when Florida State SUCKED!

I think more schools so look into doing that , given the right coach and circumstances of course.

Neo
12-17-2004, 07:55 AM
Well at least they should. Considering the circumstances. I thought Mr. Holtz had that at USC.

USC would NEVER fire Mr. Holtz. I don't care if he was caught in a 20+ orgy on the statehouse grounds. He would still be there!

I think when you have the loyalty of a coach and a school to a coach like that it just makes that place alot better. YOu never have to worry about them embarrassin ya program and you know you are going to have quality seasons. If Shula holds up and brings Bama back and keep on keeping on yanno Id love to see us keep him around liek that. I really do think hes going to be a great coach. Its in his blood yanno.

Well I think that's why Nebraska was sooooo successful. The continuity in the program.

Devany
Osborne (Devany's Asst.)
Solich (Osborne's Asst.)

That's over 30 years of experience.

Right and I think the school benefits from building from within also. Ya system dont change , style dont change and the recruits know exactly what they are going to get by going there.

Dude,

Florida State SUCKED during the 80's. LOL!

I don't think they sucked in the 80's. I was at a game between USC and Florida St. in 1984. Florida St was ranked 7th and the Gamecocks ranked 9th. The Gamecocks won that one, I believe it was 36-28.

Dude..Maybe I didn't phrase it correctly.

Florida State was a flash in the pan during the 80's. Their best record between 1980-1990 was 11-1. The rest of the years, they averaged 9 wins at best. It wasn't until the late 80's, early 90's when Florida State took off.

Averaging 9 wins isnt to shabby tho. We have just come to expect FSU to be in the national title picture year in and year out simplely cuz of Coach Bowden. Love him or hate him you gotta admit hes a great football coach.

yeah but if his system doesnt change, people will find ways to beat it, wich is now happening. also when you start coaching against guys that worked under you, they know how you can coach, look at joe pa. bowden would be smart to get out within the next 3 years to still go out a winner

I agree with you there in sayin he needs to come up with something new. YOu are correct with all the ppl that have coached under him and everyone else beginnin to figure out his system , he needs to change things up a bit. I really dont wanna see him turn into another J. Paterno. I hate what has happend to J. Paterno as well. He is a legendary coach and Penn St should be extremely proud of him .... he just didnt know when to let go and in the process of his own decline has brought down Penn St with him.
