Alabama received a verbal commitment from the #20 Quarterback prospect Jimmy Barnes. Barnes was 156/265 for 2,321 yards and threw 21 touchdown passes as a junior (10 INTs). He bench presses 275 and power cleans 225. Barnes carries a 3.3 GPA and tooks the SAT in early June. At 6-4 220 pounds, he is the typical drop-back passer that Alabama will need upon the graduation of senior Brodie Croyle.

Jimmy Barnes was quoted as saying: "I have a strong arm and I make good decisions. I am a student of the game (Jimmy's father, John, has for years been one of the most well-respected HS football coaches in Orange County, Ca, at Los Alamitos, where he coaches his son). Speed would be the area I need to work on the most."
