Walker Picks USC
By Phil Kornblut
LB Dakota Walker (6-4 227) of Mays Landing, NJ said this morning he has committed to USC over Virginia Tech. "It's a good situation for me," Walker said. "They're coaches are highly interested in me. They thought I could come in and be an impact player. The situation for me to come in there is a good one. It's a perfect fit for me." Walker said he would play outside linebacker with the Gamecocks. He also visited North Carolina and Tennessee. This season Walker had 103 tackles with 8 sacks.

Hey DEL once again you beat the people who do this for a living. Here is some back up for your info for they people who are a little skeptical.
Timmons Might Be USC Bound
WR Knowledge Timmons (5-11 175) of York, PA confirmed Tuesday morning he has rethought his commitment to Penn State and might be headed elsewhere on Signing Day, possibly USC. "It's possible," he said before starting classes at his school. Timmons said he has once again decided on his school but would not say which school that is. Timmons...
Here's the original post that I made on 2/1/05 at 12:12am. (Page 146 Post #1451)
*RUMOR* CONFIRMED
For a few days now, I have sat on something because I didn't give it much merit. After getting burned by the "Theft" incident, I am very careful at what I release now. Well...it appears it may have been true all along. According to my sources and GamecockInsider.com, they have verified this story.
WR/CB Knowledge Timmons once commited to Penn State is now seriously thinking of commiting to USC.

We definitely are loaded at DB this year. Spurrier must want to make sure that our secondary is strong. Which is probably a good idea since there are SO many good QBs in the SEC this year!

Well...Timmons has the breakaway speed and can play both sides of the field. :D
This guy I said would go to NC State or Florida State. Probably NC State.
USC Might Nab Brown
By Phil Kornblut
USC does not have a true offensive lineman in its class at this point but that could change by later today. OL Quinton Brown (6-4 235) of Orlando has narrowed his choices to USC and NC State according to his coach Bill Gurkey and is expected to have a decision later today. Brown visited USC last weekend. He visited NC State January 14th. He also visited Florida State.
Sometimes....Believe it or not, I hope I'm wrong!!!! LOL!

We need LBs. Walker is great and so is Sapp. But our other LBs are old and going to graduate this year or soon. We need them now to develop them because there is a big difference between taking on a hometown high school football player versus a D1 football player.

This my first post here. Iv've been reading the site for almost 2 months now daily. I'm a gamecock down here in Florida. I want to thank you guys for all the info that post, especially you Delo1. This is the first place I go for info. I don't post much, but I do alot of reading.
I've been a Spurrier fan ever since he recruited Wuerrfel out of high school. My son and Wuerfel were on the same HS football team (freshman and senior, respectively). Florida use to be my favorite school other than Carolina to pull for until Meyer and his tactics surfaced. Now Florida and Tenn are in the same boat. Don't know which is worst.
Anyway, thanx for all infor. Keep it coming.

Exactly. We already are going to go over the limit in scholarships and we don't have time for players that don't want to join the revolution. Carolina is headed for big things. I know we have been saying this for years but this year shows it. We are finally getting solutions to our problems (Problem #1: mainly we don't have playmakers at WR and this recruiting season we have solved it thus far). Our secondary was also thin last year and Spurrier has fixed that also. Now we need boys to help create a dangerous pass rush.

With speed like that, I bet he'll be given a good look at both PR/KR spots right off the bat.
I admittedly didn't see but 3 games or so from last year but our return game didn't leave much of an impression cuz I can't think of a whole lot of punt or kick returns being worth remembering....Timmons' speed alone has to be worth a look as a returner.

For about the past five years we have always seemed to get burned on third and long. It seems like the QB has all day to make his reads and then he makes an easy release without guys in his face. Where's Kalimba Edwards when you need him?

Greyshirt = A recruit that comes to the university, but has to pay his own way for the first year. Then he goes on a scolly.

right? or wrong?
Definitely right. The best teams (Miami, OKLA, Southern Cal) had other teams holding pray beads everytime that the ball was kicked to them and their boys had open field in which to make amazing things happen. For Carolina is was more of going through the motions so we could get the ball back and hand it to a RB. Do a QB sneak. Throw a Hail Mary. And punt.

Murdock Ready To Do It
By Phil Kornblut
WR O.J. Murdock (6-0 179) of Tampa is ready to announce his college choice Wednesday morning around 10:00 AM and according to his coach, all signs point to USC right now. "He didn't make it to Florida (last weekend), so I don't know who else could be in contention with South Carolina," Middleton High coach Harry Hubbard said. "Florida State is still interested. I think he's pretty well set but he's not told me. South Carolina and Florida were his two main people, and if Florida is not in there....But, Florida State is going to keep trying on him. They've been in touch with him and will get in touch with him again today. He'll let everybody know in the morning."
what are your predictions to what rank we will finish? I would love a top 20, especially considering all the naysayers who said even Spurrier couldn't recruit kids to SC on such short notice, ooops, guess that was wrong.....

Yeah, it really is amazing how well Stockstill, Spurrier, et al did this year considering what little time they had together. If Murdock needs a little tutoring to get those 40 pts on the SAT I'd be glad to help. I'll call the college board, maybe I can give him 40 pts off my SAT from a few years ago.

From what I've been told, Knowledge looked back at his commitment and realized he made a mistake. Penn State is dying, Joe Paterno is on his way out, etc, etc.

Effective 1:20pm, Spurrier will NOT be accepting Quentin Brown's commitment. The "on-the-record" reason was because we are already stacked in the OL position and we didn't want to fill a space that could be used for another need. This has been confirmed.
that is awesome im glad to see he isnt just taking anyone that is interested. and he is filling the positions that we actually need. hopefully we have a suprise Defensive lineman comeing in. but i am glad to see he is actually trying to make our team deep at the positions we need.

Yeah, I just hope I can go to some games next year....or at least have 7 or more games on TV. I figure the UCF, UF, UGa, and UT games will probably all be on national TV, and hopefully the clemson, auburn, and alabama games will at least be on local TV. I'm sure JP Sports will drool over getting Spurrier on TV as much as possible, so the Troy game is really the only one that has no chance of being on TV.EVEN THEN I WOULD'NT SAY NO CHANCE--LOOK AT THE UCF GAME!?!

Del,
Your buddy Korn said that he spoke with Quinton Brown's coach and, as of 4:00pm, he is undecided. Scout.com said at about 1:00pm that he committed to NC State, and you say that Spurrier has withdrawn his offer.... What's the deal? Scout.com blows d*ck, but they occasionally get it right, and in this case, they would be agreeing with you. I feel that we are fine on the O-line, but I would like to get AT LEAST one offensive lineman this year.
Thanks!

from my knowledge we have alot of depth at the OL. it is looking like Spurrier is recruiting at the positions that we REALLY need.
I know Spurrier's forte has not that much to do with the run and not all that much to do with using the TE position that much but I would think we'd be able to get Q. Brown if he's all that anyway.
My thinking is two fold...first, being #3 (that accurate?) means he has to have at least the potential to be a stud down the road, if not right away and you can never have enough good OL. Second, since we know we're pretty much forced to start a Freshman TE, we could use this depth at OL everyone's talking about and convert a small tackle into a backup/2nd TE and create depth there while getting better on the line with Brown.
I'm as excited as anyone with what Spurrier brings to the table and the offensive system that can score on anyone but this is still football and more games are won and lost along the line of scrimmage than are through the air.
Just two pennies from the Big Mitten......but I played TE in high school a bit so I might be a little biased too! :D

i dont think he is the #3 OL in the nation. i think i saw somewhere he was like 37th OL in the nation. i believe we redshirted a bunch of OL last year so it isnt something we need this year. i believe Spurrier is getting depth at other positions. i meen would you rather have a bunch of depth at 1 position or 3-4 positions?

Coach: Murdock Likely USC Bound
According to his coach, WR O.J. Murdock (6-0 179) of Tampa will likely sign with USC Wednesday morning. "I'd say he's favoring South Carolina," coach Harry Hubbard said late Wednesday afternoon. "Florida State has made a push but not the kind of push O.J. wanted to see." Murdock had also considered Florida but because he is short on some academic courses needed to enroll at Florida, the Gators were dropped last week. Murdock has the courses he needs to be able to enroll at USC. Murdock is scheduled to sign Wednesday morning at 9:30 AM.

Murdock Offers Signing Day Eve Thoughts
By Phil Kornblut
WR O.J. Murdock (6-0 179) of Tampa spent part of Tuesday night at his high school's basketball game. While there, he gave these final pre-Signing Day thoughts regarding his status:
Are you down to just South Carolina and Florida State?
It's South Carolina, Florida and a little bit Miami. I'm thinking about South Carolina a lot. More than Miami. Florida is up there a little bit, too.
How will you disclose your choice at the news conference?
I'll have hats from three schools up there...South Carolina, Miami and Florida and I'll pick the one I think is the best.
Which school recruited you the hardest?
Florida by far recruited the hardest. The phone calls, and they sent more mail.
Which school offers the best chance to play early?
Best chance to play would probably be South Carolina.
Of the head coaches, which do you like the best?
I'd have to say Urban Meyer.
Which was your favorite recruiter?
Coach David Reaves (USC). He's funny and he jokes all the time.
Does your family have a preference?
They are not pushing me. They want me to stay close to home. All three are fairly close. But it's up to me.
Have you talked to any coaches tonight?
I talked to coach Reaves and coach Meyer.
What will be the deciding factor in the decision?
If they throw the ball and playing time.
Which team do you think offers the most playing time?
For the most part, that would be South Carolina.
As of tonight, have you made a decision?
I have not made the decision. I'm going to pray about it tonight and hopefully God will lead me in the right direction.
ESPNDEL, hilarious, so his coverage starts at 7, well I'll be on from around 10:15 till 11, so you guys make sure to not let up on your reporting during that time.....

What's Ahead On Signing Day
By Phil Kornblut
We'll be tracking a few players of interest this morning as the last players on the USC and Clemson boards make their decisions. The Gamecocks are waiting on the news from WR O.J. Murdock, WR Knowledge Thomas and OL Quinton Brown. PalmettoSports.com expects Murdock to sign with the Gamecocks. Thomas has been committed to Penn State but contacted USC Tuesday and indicated an interest in going there. However, his coach also contacted USC and said he would honor his commitment to Penn State. If Thomas sticks with Penn State, the Gamecocks would likely take Brown if he wants to come. There were reports yesterday Brown had committed to NC State but last night his coach denied the accuracy of those reports and said Brown was still undecided. With Clemson landing LB Antonio Clay last night, the Tigers sill have LB Geno Hayes and DL James McKinney on the board. PalmettoSports.com expects Hayes to sign with Florida State and McKinney with Michigan.
Spurrier closing the gap
By Paul Strelow | Staff Writer
It was only appropriate that within days of his hiring, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier could be spotted feverishly jogging on a treadmill upon entering Williams-Brice Stadium for the state's high school football championships.
While Clemson won the initial sprint, USC had to quickly make up ground quickly.
Based on the opinions of analysts from Scout.com and Rivals.com, the Tigers are ahead -- albeit by a lot smaller margin -- as the recruiting marathon's finish line approaches.
"And that doesn't surprise me because Clemson had such a start on him," Rivals.com national editor Jeremy Crabtree said. "It makes a difference when you haven't done anything on the field yet."
With both schools putting the final touches on their classes heading into Wednesday's signing day, Clemson is ranked No. 19 and 17 in the nation, respectively, by Scout.com and Rivals.com.
The Tigers are expected to drop a couple of slots, though. Two teams right below them -- Florida and Florida State -- will likely boost their rankings when many undecided five-star recruits reveal their choices this week.
USC meanwhile, has risen to No. 26 and 28, thanks to Spurrier's one-month shopping spree.
Jeremy Patterson, Rivals.com's Southeastern analyst, said Clemson's class is defined more by its depth than five-star blue-chippers.
Clemson capitalized on its end of 2003 success by locking up as many early commitments as possible, and because it also retained a handful of non-qualifiers from the previous year's class, the Tigers have spent the brunt of the last few months merely trying to protect the pledges they had.
Two weeks ago, they added the consensus headliner of the class -- running back James Davis of Atlanta -- to a group with a balanced number of linemen and skill position prospects.
"Other than James Davis, they don't have the superstar guy who's going to come in and play next year," Patterson said. "But they have a lot of guys who will be solid contributors and very few who fit the project mold."
One interesting aspect of USC's class isn't whom they'll sign, but from whence they came. Considering the Gamecocks aren't the favorite for either Columbia running back Mike Davis or Conway defensive end Hivera Green, they will likely wind up signing their fewest number of in-state prospects (six) since 1989, when coach Joe Morrison died three days before signing day.
Several recruits subsequently went elsewhere, and the Gamecocks wound up with three in-state residents out of 22 signees.
Spurrier, who replaced Lou Holtz in late November, compensated by tapping into his connections in north Florida and Georgia.
The Gamecocks were able to land a bevy of receiver/defensive back types, most notably Atlanta receiver Carlos Thomas.
Analysts from both companies said they were impressed with what Spurrier was able to accomplish in so little time, although we may not see the impact of his hiring on USC's recruiting until next year.
"People just think because Steve Spurrier has taken over, they're going to get everybody," said Jamie Newberg, Scout.com national analyst and commentator for Fox Sports Net South's "Countdown to Signing Day." "That usually happens down the line in another year or two.
"People don't know Steve Spurrier, especially in state. They know of him, obviously, but he's got to establish all these relationships with high school coaches and athletes. And it sounds like he's starting to do that."

Del, what time should info. on your end start cranking up?
*UPDATE*
Apparently OL Quentin Brown has been put on hold pending WR/CB Knowledge Timmons decision. If Knowledge commits,(Like I think/heard he would) then Spurrier will not accept the commitment of Brown. If Knowledge doesn't commit, I believe that we will accept a commitment from Brown. This has been confirmed.

What I'm going to do is this...
As I get confirmation of their LOI, I'll post their name, ranking, and position on here.
LOI = Letter of Intent

How quick do you anticipate knowing about Murdock? I may sit up if you think it will be this morning. :D
Apparently, Knowledge's football coach is NOT happy about him talking to USC. He started running his mouth yesterday about Spurrier and USC.
His (Murdock) announcement is scheduled for 9am.

Yes, I read that. You would think the coach would be happy for his player getting interest from both Penn State and USC. Hope this young man does the right thing. ;)

I just think that a coach needs to stand by his athlete and respect his thoughts and decisions. Don't undermine them. :D

That reminds me, Spurrier was on ESPN a few days ago. He was quoted as saying that USC had more talent then he thought. He just got a rough estimate before he took the job and after he took it, he researched his players and found out he was better off than he first thought. :D

That is awesome, and believable as well. I knew we had some talent here. At what point will we have a better idea of who is doing what, as far as who is playing what position?

Good morning, Gentleman. I hope this day holds for you all that you dreamed and more. I will be heading in to work at 7:30 and have no internet access there, so I will know very little until this afternoon unless my son calls me which he probably will about 200 times. Good luck. Keep the faith. Go Gamecocks.
Thanks again, Del. I has been a good ride.

Call me crazy (everyone I know does), but I had a dream last night/EARLY this morning where i was sitting here in front of my computer, it was very dark outside and Avery Atkins signed with USC. I was so happy, I jumped up and tripped over my chair as I went to go running through my house and when I hit the ground, I woke up.
Gotta go to my dentist's appt. now but I'll be back right after to hopefully crack open a brew and have a cheers to dreams coming true! Well...with the exception of the tripping & falling part...think I landed on my chin which would have hurt quite a bit.
GO COCKS! AND THANKS AGAIN DEL FOR MAKING THIS BY FAR THE MOST ENJOYABLE RECRUITING SEASON I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED. CAN'T POSSIBLY THANK YOU ENOUGH.
