I want to clarify something. I really did not intend to bash anyone when I said I didn't trust your info del. I just am a little skeptical. I have been told wrong things TOO many times (not by just you, but others also). I really enjoy this site because everyone is adult and cordial. IN other forums grown adults act like babies and start name calling and being general asses. I am glad this site can safely argue points without feelings being hurt. No hard feelings?
I was skeptical about Del's predictions when I first started reading them but time and time again his info has been correct. 9 out of 10 times he's gonna be right. Just letting you know my observation, no bull there either, just telling it like it is.....

I respect that but all I am saying is that as far as this recruiting goes I don't count my chickens until they hatch. We have to remember these are HIGH school boys that will do anything to get their names splashed all across the news. This might be there only time of big fame. They aren't totally sure what they are going to do and it can change at a moments notice. Ya'll remember what it was like. One week something was cool, the next it sucked. That is why teenagers make such good consumers!

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
Keep up the good work Delo.........we all have to cross over the line every now and then and show a little faith in something......I can only speak for myself, but am quiet sure that I do speak for others, when I say that I have the utmost faith and appreciation for the efforts you put forth, even if it is not always as accurate as one we all would like. I personally haven't seen you post anything that was way off the mark. THANK YOU!
*OJ Murdock UPDATE* **CONFIRMED**
OJ Murdock will visit un-officially. He CANNOT get into Florida because he is missing CORE classes to be admitted. The only way he's getting into Florida is by going the Prep or JUCO route for 1 year which he has denied numerous times.
In order to fully qualify at USC, he needs to bring up his SAT by approx. 40 pts. which I fully believe he can do. Spurrier has talked to him and believes that he can bring his SAT score up. That's why we are still recruiting him.
Coach David Reaves met with Murdock yesterday and everything is going great. According to sources, it's VERY much possible that USC will sign Murdock next week. As new news comes in, I will update. THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED.

No hard feelings! ((Offering to shake hands))
I really can't blame you. When I first started reporting things, people took them like a grain of salt which is understandable. A lot of people say I know so and so. When most of my calls were coming true, that's when people started looking closer at my calls.
Put simply, I'm going to have to earn your trust like everyone else, so I don't blame you being skeptical. :D

Thank god for Time Warner Digital Telephone Service. With it I get unlimited long distance calling anywhere and everywhere! :)
I think 12-15 hrs a day is a low estimate. LOL! On average, I'm on the phone checking things out from 7am to 1am. I don't want to put bad info up, that's why it takes me so long to update. When I hear something, I always verify it at least once.
I have gotten burned with bad info before, that's why I try to always verify it. :)

I am one of those who have learneed to trust Del's info. Not that it's 100% true - If you are looking for that, you'd better go to a higher source! LOL - but for the great majority of the time - He is corrrect, and usually before any other site.
I check out many different sites (some pay) and this site and Del's info seems always to be the best and most accurate anywhere -
Just my $0.01 - - - I don't feel I have $0.02 to offer too much of the time! :)

I have lots of fun doing this for myself, but I have found that I am not the only passionate USC fan here. I work on this recruiting thread 15-20 hrs a day at a personal loss for all of my fellow USC fans that do not have access to things that I have access to. I do this because I know everyone wants information, but doesn't have the resources to get it.
I am very thankful for the endless support I have received from the readers of my thread. I take a lot of pride in my work and it prides me to see that I have made a difference in so many Gamecock fan's recruiting lives.
Even though I have been wrong before, I stand by my reports with the utmost vigor and brave the heat like anyone should. I do appreciate the props from my fellow posters even when I'm wrong. It really means a lot to me and I will continue to do my very best here and as usual, all good things must come to an end. With the end of recruiting just around the corner, I was just wanting to let everyone know that I will be here covering National Signing Day with updates to those that wish to read them.
Once again, thanks to everyone for their endless support and my gratitude for such is eternal. We are all part of the USC family.

Hey Del
This is CharlotteGamecock from another board. Great job on keeping everyone up-to-date on this site. I appreciate the visit list you put together that helped so much on that other board. I have one question for you, is USC looking to bring in WR Ruben Jackson the weekend after signing day due to Sledge's commit to UF? Once again, keep up the hard work, it has not gone un-noticed.

I will give it to you though, it is posted here sometimes faster then even Gamecockcentral.com. Palmetto sports recently hasn't impressed me, they don't seem to find anything new to say.
I do want to ask ya'lls opinions about something though. What is all the hype about Will Newell. I played with him and have seen him and I am not impressed. He has a bad attitude problem and the only reason he gets so much publicity is because he plays for IRMO. Frierson brought all the attention to Newell.

What exactly is the difference between a offical visit and a unoffical visit? I remeber one of you saying OJ was not going on an offical visit but an unoffical visit. Does this mean the school doesn't provide anything to the recruit as far as food, residence, and tickets to the game or is it just a formality?

Murdock will trip to Florida
By Mark McLeod GatorCountry.com
Date: Jan 28, 2005
All-American wide receiver OJ Murdock of Tampa Middleton and his family will indeed be visiting the University of Florida this weekend. Murdock confirmed the visit with me early this morning.
“Yeah, we’re coming” Murdock confirmed. “We’ll be leaving around 3:30 this afternoon. I’m really looking forward to it. It should be a great trip”.
Murdock said that he was surprised about conflicting reports which are circulating regarding a cancelled trip. He addressed the issue of potential academic concerns as well.
“No, I’m coming. Where’s this stuff coming from? I haven’t even spoken to anybody about anything like that. The coaches haven’t said anything to me about it either. There was some paperwork that wasn’t completely filled out properly, but that’s been taken care of. Academically, I’m fine. I’ll be visiting this weekend”.
I also spoke to Middleton High School Head Coach Harry Hubbard, who led the Tigers to an 8-4 record this past season, about the latest concerning Murdock.
“Unless something has happened since last night, I don’t know anything about it” Coach Hubbard said. “He’s visiting Florida this weekend. I had somebody call earlier and ask if the Florida trip was cancelled because he’s going to Alabama. I had never heard anything about Alabama. Nobody has said anything to me other than he’s visiting Florida”.
Murdock is expected to choose between the Gators and South Carolina this weekend. I told him that as a wide receiver, he’s really sitting in the cat bird seat with these two coaches.
“Yeah” Murdock said laughing. “Either way things would be pretty good for a receiver. It’s a good decision to have to make”.

That letter was posted yesterday and it really doesn't mean anything.
I do have one question, do you really think that he would admit that his grades and such were questionable to the media? Just a thought.

This is an UN-OFFICIAL visit. He doesn't meet the enrollment requirements to be brought in on an official visit.

No but the article places doubt all the same, I just hate the fact that he seems so up beat about the visit and is so motivated to go to UF.

I wouldn't put 2 cents into a Florida-run website. Florida tends to covet their athletes and do you think that they would even remotely give the idea that maybe he was interested or would commit to another school? Not in a million years.
I think that article was done to "sugarcoat" his visit or to put "blinders" on all Gator fans.
I really can't blame the kid if he went to Florida. He grew up watching and cheering for the Gators. Honestly, we are in this as much as Florida is except we have the advantage. He cannot enroll at Florida without a year of prep or JUCO. Now, he may commit to the Gators and go to prep/JUCO or he may later decide that he's not willing to go prep/JUCO for a year and end up at USC. You have to look at this from many different angles.

I would also assume that he's playing the same 'game' that Eric Sledge did. He's not going to say anything negative about the Gators just in case he decides to become a Gator afterall.
I assume Del has the story right though, so I also assume that Murdock will come here in the end. I'm certainly happy that we might end up with two of the fastest receiver prospects coming to Columbia, but it is slightly embarrassing that our academic standards are below Florida's. Del, do you know which class Murdock is lacking that UF requires that we don't? (I know his SAT needs some work as well, but I thought I read earlier that there was a difference in class requirements as well.)

I don't have the exact core class that he's missing to get into Florida. All I know is that he can get into USC now, but Spurrier wants him to retake the SAT and get his score up a hair so he can fully qualify.
Class requirements are different state by state because the requirements are set by the state.
I wouldn't be embarrassed. Each school has their pros and cons. It's like Florida couldn't touch our Honor's college with a 30 foot pole! :D

It is no great loss. Newell is all hype and a lot of bad attitude. He has been coddled his entire life and thinks the world is his. I wish I could see the first week of practice down at Newberry where he won't be given the preferrial treatment that he got at Irmo. Lets just say it will be a very good eye-opening experience for him. He'll see that the world doesn't revolve around him.
Now enough of that, any news on the ol Murdock? Is there anyone else we're waiting on or is just him, davis, and raglin? Is Raglin really that special? He isn't rated by rivals.com.

Atkins = We (USC) have a better chance of winning the lottery, getting struck by lightning and being a contestant on Jeopardy before getting this kid.
Raglin = Better get on the train before it leaves the station.
As for Murdock, no updates as of now. (1/30/05 1:15am)
As for the other guys...
Davis = Was rumored to sign with USC, but personally I think he's going to Clemson.
Brown = He's getting wooed by FSU. No chance.

Same here....I guess he's not shocking the world after all! :D
*MURDOCK UPDATE*
Apparently, he (Murdock) scored a 760 on his SAT and Spurrier wants him to bring his score up at least to an 800. Currently, he will qualify at USC, but Spurrier doesn't want any hiccups and to play it safe, he's asking him to retake the SAT and get his score up a tad to be sure.
This has been confirmed.

Yep...I am getting excited...but....I still have to keep it contained.
He may still decide to go ahead and sign with Florida and go the prep/JUCO route or he may sign with us. I guess we will find out in a few short days. :D
You wanna hear something funny?
Even the Gator fans don't know what's going on. Some of them are saying he made his un-official visit and others are saying he didn't. That to me shows that they're scared.:)

I don't like Davis personally, but he is a "gem" of a player and we need players like that.
I would love for him to come to USC, but I am thinking he's leaning towards Clemson.
My predictions for signing day:
NR 3-star LB Dakota Walker: I firmly believe he's a lock. I have received reports that have said he called his VT recruiters and told them he plans on enrolling at USC.
Projected School: USC
#26 3-Star OL Hivera Green: I feel that we came in too late on this kid. Even though Steve Spurrier is a great recruiter, he cannot make up for lost time with Green.
Projected School: Clemson or Virginia Tech
#10 4-Star WR OJ Murdock: I feel that he will end up enrolling at USC by default. There are many conflicting reports on this prospect and I guess I will just stick to what I have heard.
Projected School: USC
#35 3-Star OL Quentin Brown: He currently says NC State is the team to beat. I once thought that FSU was the team to beat, but I am starting to think that he wants to be part of the Wolfpack.
Projected School: NC State or FSU
#22 3-Star TB Mike Davis: Boy this is a tough one. I would love to say that he is coming to USC. He was rumored to sign with USC, but I never confirmed that rumor. I see him going to USC only because Clemson has already signed one TB.
Projected School: Clemson

Raglin Appears Louisville Bound
By Phil Kornblut
DB Richard Raglin (6-2 195) of Atlanta made his official visit to Louisville over the weekend and his on the verge of committing to the Cardinals. "It was real nice," he said. "I just liked the campus and surroundings and the people. It's looking like it's going to be Louisville." Raglin did not commit on his visit because he wanted to talk things over with his family and coach but he plans to make his commitment Monday morning. Raglin also made visits to USC, Tulane, East Carolina and North Carolina.

Well...this job is hard by nature. Not anyone here is psychic and if you don't have inside info, these kids are very hard to read. I have made some mistakes and been given bad info before. No one is perfect. :) I just take in what I have heard and make an educated guess. It's not rocket science. :D
As for Davis, he's stringing USC along. I mean come on, is he really going to consider Kentucky??? I feel that he's putting USC on the backburner so if his first choice doesn't pan out, he'll have something to fall back on.
These recruits that just "can't decide until signing day" are going to disappear faster than a virgin on prom night next year. It's total BS and the only reason Spurrier is tollerating it now is because he has to. Bet on it.

Understanding the Letter Of Intent (LOI) Issue
What's in a scholarship? Let us recount the ways
By MIKE KNOBLER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/30/05
National Signing Day has become such a big deal it has acquired capital letters, such a huge news event the Atlanta Journal-Constitution plans to report about it with an eight-page special section on Thursday.
So we thought we'd take this opportunity to tell you what, exactly, will be signed.
A scholarship, most people would tell you, and that's half right. But high school seniors nationwide will sign something else on Wednesday, too.
The document that makes National Signing Day like Christmas Day for college football fans and coaches is the National Letter of Intent, the pieces of paper that turn a wished-for prospect into a wrapped-up signee.
The letter of intent binds the player to the school he will attend and binds the school to the player. Until he signs it and sends it — usually by fax — to the university, he's free to change his mind, no matter what he told his coaches, his parents, his girlfriend, his local newspaper or his dog. No "commitment" he made to any college coach commits him to anything until he signs and sends his letter of intent.
After signing and sending the letter, though, a player faces stiff penalties for changing his mind. He must attend that university for a full academic year or lose a year of eligibility and have to sit out a year before playing at another university.
You'd think such an important document would be well understood by everybody who follows college sports. It isn't. The biggest misconception is that the player is getting a four-year guarantee from the university.
In fact, the school, like the player, is bound for just one year.
After that year, the player is free to transfer without losing eligibility and the school is free to revoke the scholarship. In fact, NCAA rules bar schools from offering players more than a one-year scholarship. That scholarship is renewable, but the renewal isn't automatic.
It's up to each school to set policies about which scholarships to renew.
Arlington, Texas, lineman Brad Sellers, who plans to sign with Georgia Tech, said the Yellow Jackets were up front with him.
"They said it's a one-year scholarship and they renew it every year as long as you work hard and don't get in trouble with the law and your academics are good," Sellers said, adding that Tech told him it doesn't revoke scholarships from players who for some reason other than effort don't pan out. "If you come in and you're not all that, they're not going to take it away from you," he said.
Said Westlake linebacker Taalib Tucker, who also plans to sign with Tech: "I got a scholarship [offer] for a reason, so I've got to do my part."
The notion that a coach or athletics director could decide a player isn't doing his part makes some professors uncomfortable. The Coalition on Intercollegiate Athletics, a national group of university faculty members, wants to take the power to revoke athletics scholarships away from athletics departments.
"There are some schools where if the player is not performing up to standard or the player gets injured, we have heard scholarships are revoked," said Nathan Tublitz, a University of Oregon neurobiology professor and member of the Coalition's steering committee. "If there's a question about renewing the scholarship, it should be decided by the chief academic officer."
Other key facts about the letter of intent:
• It's not an NCAA document, and it's not enforced by the NCAA. Instead, it's run by conference commissioners. Every Division I school participates in the letter of intent program except for the service academies, the Ivy League and some schools in the Patriot League. Every fully active Division II school participates, too.
• The letter of intent doesn't guarantee admission. The letter becomes void if the admissions office rejects the player or the player fails to meet the NCAA academic requirements for financial aid.
• Once a player signs and sends a letter of intent, other schools are barred from trying to recruit him.
• A player can break his letter-of-intent commitment without penalty if he serves 18 months in the U.S. military or on an official church mission.
• The letter is binding from the moment a player sends it to a university. There's a penalty for a signee who changes his mind, even if he never sets foot on the school's campus.
"Some players think, 'I didn't go to school, so we don't have a problem here.' Unfortunately, they do have a problem," said Torie Johnson, director of the National Letter of Intent program.
• You don't have to sign a letter of intent to get a scholarship; signing one just guarantees you that one will be available if you qualify. One of the most famous examples of this is basketball player Chris Jackson, who later changed his name to Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. His mother refused to sign his letter of intent because she didn't want him to attend LSU. The letter is invalid without a parent's signature. So Jackson never filed a letter of intent but still attended LSU on scholarship.
• Schools can release players from their letters of intent, as Georgia did after Dennis Felton replaced Jim Harrick as men's basketball coach. But the decision is up to the school; a post-signing day coaching change doesn't free a player from his letter.
• If a school won't grant a release, a player can appeal to the National Letter of Intent steering committee. Appeals often are granted when there are significant unforeseen circumstances, such as the death of a parent or a financial hardship for a family, Johnson said.

6:06 PM and I learned something new. Thanks Del, for not making this lazy Sunday a total waste. Seriously though, this LOI/scholarship system is one of those things that many people (myself included) THINK they know when in fact, they ASSUME they know how it all works.

Davis Back From Maryland
By Phil Kornblut
Columbia High RB Mike Davis (5-11 208) has returned for his official visit to Maryland. According to his father, Davis is burned out from the trip and is not taking phone calls tonight. He plans to announce his decision Monday morning at 9:30. Mr. Davis confirmed the decision will come down to USC and Clemson. He said the actual decision had not yet been made. He said he and his son will send down later tonight to discuss things and make a "unified decision."

Any new news on the whole OJ episode? I know they want their moment in the spotlight but it is kinda ridiculous the way they hold out for so long on a decision they have already made. If they haven't decided, that is fair. But some say they know but only hold out because they want all the pomp and circumstance of the media directed towards them. If your good athlete, you should let what you do on the field be your highlights, not you using a pen to sign a piece of paper.

We pulled the offer on Raglin. OJ is split between us and UF. UF doesn't even consider him a top prospect because they told him they are waiting on another prospect ahead of him. If they lose that prospect then they would take him. He should just be like "Forget you, im gonna go where im wanted the most" which would be USC!!!

I would have to agree, After being placed on the backburner to another prospect after being so highly recuited by Meyer, would show me exactly what type of morals they have at Fla. I would jump on the first train to a rival school and stuff it down their throat for years to come...

The light will be cast upon the Gator nation, once the truth is revealed about Meyers recruiting practices, which will favor every other team in the SEC. Thank you Urban! Concerned still about our G'Cocks......we are in desperate need of DL and I don't see that stud anywhere on the roster nor the commitment list. Our pass rush hasn't been something to envy the past 4-5 yrs. so I really wanted to see them focus more on that aspect of our game. We know what the ole ball coach can do on the other side of the line, and pretty much think he can do it with less than skilled players, because of the schemes he uses, but the defensive side of the ball was our area of needed focus. Defense wins championships!!!

Murdock Skips Visit To Florida
By EDUARDO A. ENCINA eencina@tampatrib.com
Published: Jan 31, 2005
TAMPA - Middleton wide receiver O.J. Murdock said it was instinct.
The Tigers senior, one of the nation's top wideout recruits, said he woke up Friday morning and decided he wasn't going to make his scheduled official visit to Florida.
It appears that Murdock, the 10th-rated wide receiver prospect in the nation according to Rivals.com, is not headed to Gainesville to play college ball.
``It was just instinct to me,'' Murdock said. ``I don't believe in having a wasted visit just to go up there and have fun if I'm not interested in the school and I'm not going there.''
Since returning from an official visit to South Carolina two weekends ago, Murdock had narrowed his finalists to South Carolina and Florida. Reached Sunday night, he said he remains uncommitted. Murdock's only other official visit was to Florida State.
Murdock still plans to announce his decision Wednesday morning at an assembly at Middleton.
Murdock's shunning of Florida may be an indicator that he will head out of state to play for South Carolina and former Gators coach Steve Spurrier. The Gamecocks already have commitments from six prep players in Florida, according to Rivals.com. If Murdock chooses South Carolina, he would join four-star wideout Carlos Thomas, a College Park, Ga., recruit who is listed as the nation's ninth best receiving prospect.
Murdock led the county with 58 receptions for 831 yards and 10 touchdowns in helping Middleton to the Class 4A-Region 3 final. RELATED STORY, Page 2Armwood's McCray picks Indiana
Oh I know...I said it yesterday that OJ Murdock was coming.....:)
So far, I bombed on the "Mike Davis" choice, but I got the Hivera Green one correct.
See how valuable Stockstill is to USC......
Davis Excited To Be A Gamecock
By Phil Kornblut
In the end, family, friends and Rick Stockstill made the difference for Columbia RB Mike Davis (5-11 208) in his decision to pick USC over Clemson. Clemson had been the front runner for Davis since the spring. Tiger recruiter Brad Scott had done a great job of postioning himself with Davis and his family.
But USC, led by recruiting coordinator Rick Stockstill, made a concerted effort to win this in-state battle in a year in which they were dominated in the state by Clemson. Davis made several unofficial visits to USC along with his official visit. One meeting in particular at USC with Spurrier and Stockstill a couple of weeks ago seemed to start things turning in USC's favor. Then another meeting with Stockstill last Thursday pushed USC over the hump. Still, Davis said he didn't make the final decision until the early hours of Monday morning. "The decision was so tough, I couldn't make it by myself," Davis said after announcing his choice. "I had to go to family and friends and church. I had to dig real deep and find where my heart was. I felt USC would be the best thing for me. My dad could not make long drives to go see me play at Clemson. I would like to make it more convenient for him and my mom. And if my dad needed anything or my mom needed anything, I wanted to be there for them." Davis was among the state's leading rushers this season with 2024 yards and 28 touchdowns. As a junior Davis rushed for 2127 yards and 20 touchdowns. And he feels he'll find a spot in Steve Spurrier's offense.
"They said they wanted to run the ball but they also need a back that can come out of the backfield, do pass protection and to know the offense and be almost an every down back." Davis certainly scanned the depth charts at both schools and was well aware highly touted running back James Davis had committed to Clemson on the weekend they were together there for their official visits. But Mike Davis said that was no factor in his decision. "James Davis is a great back," he said. "I feel that if I had gone to Clemson it would have been the same thing, it probably would have been me and him going at it for a place in the starting lineup.
If I had gone to Clemson, it wouldn't have really mattered. A running back can't play by himself all the time. If he does, he's not going to last very long." Davis seemed very pleased with his decision and, in fact, admitted that six months ago he never thought he'd pull out a USC cap at his announcement news conference. "I never thought I would be here with a Gamecock cap on but it's a great time to be here with family and friends." Davis becomes USC's 25th commitment for this class.

I think firing him would be crazy. He inherited a team that had more problems then a blind person in tiger cage. He got it out of trouble and has KEPT it clean. He has also quietly had a few good recruiting classes the past few years. If it hadn't been for Brodie Croyle's injury last year I believe they would have finished 2nd in the western division. I say that next year they go 9-2 or 8-3. It all depends on whether we beat them or not. Their possible losses coming to Auburn, FLA, SC, or TENN. I don't see LSU being a too much a problem next year for them.

LB Dakota Walker (6-4 225) of Mays Landing, NJ has made his decision between USC and Virginia Tech. And he's decided not to wait until Signing Day to announce. Walker said Monday night he will announce his choice Tuesday morning at a 9:00 AM news conference at his school. Walker would not give an indication of his choice. When asked if fans in South Carolina would be excited, Walker replied "I hope so." We'll have coverage of Walker's announcement here Tuesday morning.
