Alright, thanks man. I hope we steal some committs away. But right now it looks like we will have a nice defense, as always. And it also looks like we are going to have a good offense. Sucks about Syvelle and the rest of the players though.

yeah, what they did made the team and the school look very bad. They shouldve thought more about the team and what would occur. Oh well though. They have to live with it now. I am just itching for the season to start already. And there are so many more months to wait. Wouldn't it be nice if football was all year long? I can only wish.

Sounds good to me, get as many as we can. Since we are on our way to a national championship. Ok maybe im alittle ahead of myself. But I am very hopeful for the future. I would like to see us at least in a BCS in the next 5 years. I would be happy if we did that.

Sledge Tells USC Not To Worry
WR Eric Sledge (6-4 195) of Apopka, FL committed to USC last Sunday but left open the possibility for more visits. So it's not surprising he scheduled trips for this weekend to Florida and for the 28th to NC State. However, Sledge says those trips haven't dampened his feelings for USC. "The commitment is probably stronger now than it was," Sledge said Thursday night. "I've talked to them more personally this week. I talked to Steve Spurrier Junior tonight around 8:00 PM. I know South Carolina is going to win. They are putting themselves in position to be number one. We've got a great recruiting class coming in. I feel like I can come right in and start." Sledge says Gamecock fans shouldn't make too much out of his other visits. "I just want to see new things," he said. "I told the coaches I'm still with Carolina. I've definitely been a Gator fan but it was coach Spurrier running those teams. But they haven't been the same since Spurrier left. I turned into a Miami fan. I have a cousin at Miami, so I'm a Miami fan." Good thing for USC, Sledge isn't considering the Hurricanes.

That would be Atkins, Walker, Murdock, Todd and maybe Davis? I count 24-25 commits so far so 30 seems to be the number.
It always seem to come down to 2 or 3 that make your class and if we get Atkins, Walker and Murdock those would be the ones to put us in the top 20 in terms of class rating.

I'll guarantee you we are. I don't know if we really have a shot at him, but he would be the only 5 star in this class.
We do need Hannah, Murdock and Walker. If we get Todd and Atkins too then we would have a top class. I think Mike Davis is jerking our chain.

Young commits To USC
RB Brandyn Young (6-0 195) of Tucker, GA committed to USC Wednesday. "The opportunity was there and there was no need to wait any longer," Young said. Young said he will not make any other official visits. He visited USC and Maryland and was scheduled to visit Vanderbilt this weekend.

We have 26 commitments so far. Who would we drop if we suddenly had an avalanche and got all or even more than 4 of these guys? Anybody know how many of our commitments are NQ?
Hannah -- strong lean to USC
Murdock -- strong lean to USC
Walker -- strong lean to USC
Todd - Texas Tech commitment who might change his mind
Kearney -- not sure if he is still considering USC; he is linked to OSU and UGA
Atkins -- Florida commitment who said he was shock the world on NSD
Green -- we might be back in the picture with him since he failed to commit to UFA
Davis -- this kid has everybody wondering; plus, I wonder if we need him
Brown -- OL who is heavily recruited but still considering USC
I'd be happy with the first three and maybe one surprise. (Atkins) No doubt we won't get them all.

Keep in mind that there will generally be a few that end up not qualifying anyhow, and will be gray-shirted more than likely. That's why teams usually take more than 25 committments.

Spurrier Meets With Walker
By Phil Kornblut
USC coach Steve Spurrier got a close look at LB Dakota Walker (6-4 225) of Mays Landing, NJ Thursday night. Spurrier attened Walker's basketball game then visited with him and his family at his home. "It was a good visit," Walker said. "I'm definitely interested in them and I think they know that, too. They're definitely one of my top schools. I like coach Spurrier a lot. He's a good guy and a good coach. USC has the edge but Tennessee is very close. Hopefully by Monday or Tuesday I'll know." Walker will visit Virginia Tech this weekend. He has been to USC and Tennessee along with North Carolina and Purdue. Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer visited him Wednesday. North Carolina's John Bunting will be in Sunday. Tennessee's Phillip Fuler and Purdue's Joe Tiller are due in Monday.

Johnson Returns To USC
By Conan Gasque
DE Josh Johnson (6-4 250), a freshman standout at USC in 2003, has returned to the Gamecock football program after sitting out last season. Johnson left school after the 2003 season and returned to his home in Gibsonton, FL. He enrolled at USC for this spring semester and is participating in all team drills.
Does anyone remember anything about this kid? It sounds like he has nice size, but they say he was a freshman standout and I have no recollection of him.

Ben Olson is a JUCO QB from California. He is a five-star recruit that rivals.com has listed as a solid verbal commiment to UCLA. He was a target of SS earlier but I had thought he had left us for the west coast. But that one poster on "The State" forum made me wonder so I am asking again, does anyone know if he is really interested in us or is this just a silly rumor.

Call it a "gutsy" feeling. ;)
As for Ben Olson, I don't want him. Yeah he's a 5-Star recruit, but the kid hasn't touched a football in two (2) years. He going to be quite rusty. He committed to UCLA weeks ago and has said numerous times that he wanted to stay closer to home. So go ahead and "scratch" him off of your lists. :)

I am going to make a prediction.....
I predict that we are going to sign Dakota Walker and OJ Murdock.
I would love for Hannah to come here, but I see him going to NC State.
Murdock and Hannah are supposed to give their decisions tomorrow. :D
Newell Wants To Join USC
Irmo LB Will Newell (6-2 225) has long wanted to play for USC. The Gamecocks have not recruited him for a scholarship, but that's not going to deter one of the state's leading tacklers from reaching his goal. "If USC lets me be a preferred walkon, I'm going to do that," Newell said. "They say I look good on film and I'm a good player, but they've got to talk to coach Spurrier. Newell said he talked with Gamecock co-defensive coordinator John Thompson last week. He has visited Wofford and is scheduled to visit Newberry this weekend. This season Newell had 228 tackles and 9 sacks.
Carrington Visits USC
RB Justin Carrington (6-0 205) of Bealton, VA made his official visit to USC over the weekend. He did not commit as the Gamecock staff did not push for a decision from him during the weekend. Carrington also has visited Ohio and Indiana.

Finally,we see usc does not push for carrington commitment.I think we are down to our final three spots. Next week will tell all when the blue chipers go to florida on the 28. I think we will be able to tell a lot when we hear sledges comments on the gators. Now I predict that Hannah does come to usc.
Succop Visits USC
PK Ryan Succop (6-3 210) of Hickory, NC made his official visit to USC over the weekend. He has been committed to the Gamecocks and his commitment remains firm. "It was awesome," he said of the visit. "I had a really good time. Everything went really well. I loved it. I talked to coach Spurrier a lot over the weekend. I ate a lot of meals with him." As for his take on the thinking of RB Mike Davis who was in this weekend with him, Succop said "I wouldn't be surprised if he committed," to USC.
Walker Stuck In Blacksburg
LB Dakota Walker (6-4 225) of Mays Landing, NJ visited Virginia Tech over the weekend. His flight home was canceled so he'll be staying another night in Blacksburg. "It was a good visit, everything was good," Walker said. "There wasn't just one thing that stood out. I've got to think about my decision. There is no favorite. I'm down to USC, Virginia Tech and Tennessee." Walker hopes to make a decision Monday or Tuesday. He is supposed to have Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer in his home Monday but might have to reschedule because of the travel difficulties.

I don't think Mike Davis will come to USC, I see him going to Kentucky...It's the best place for him playing time wise....I didn't really care for him in the first place..saw him play a couple games this past season...i didn't see anything special..
Hannah Ready For Decision
DE Jonathan Hannah (6-5 250) of Hope Mills, NC will reveal his college choice Monday morning at ten during a news conference at his school. As of early Sunday night, Hannah said he had not made a decision and all five schools were still in the race. Hannah said he will not call the schools in advance to tell them of his decision, he will just let everyone know at the same time Monday. Hannah visited NC State over the weekend. "They did a lot of things very well," he said. "Getting to know the players," was big to him. "Some are from my area, so I knew about them. So, getting to know them was the best part. And they have top notch facilities, some of the best I've seen." Hannah said he would make up his mind tonight from among USC, Clemson, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia Tech. "Some will be shocked, and some will expect it," he said. He is not meeting with any coaches tonight but he said he would talk to any coaches who called.
Raglin Visits North Carolina
DB Richard Raglin (6-2 195) of Atlanta made his official visit to North Carolina over the weekend. "It was pretty nice," he said. "They showed us the campus and took us to the basketball game. That was pretty much it. They are pretty low on defensive backs, so there's a pretty could chance I could play if I go there." Raglin has also visited USC, Tulane and East Carolina. Right now he favors USC with Louisville second. He will visit Louisville this weekend. Raglin said he talked with his Gamecock recruiter Ron Cooper last week.

That's true. I mean there are a lot of variables involved. Let's look at each one. (Pros & Cons)
USC: Could start immediately at TE and play for a HOF coach. A Top-25 recruiting class doesn't hurt either. SOS also has job security. Lack of tradition bites!
UNC: Was an early favorite, is also close to home and he has a few friends that have signed with UNC. Coach Bunting's tenure is in question.
NC State: Following his father's shoes and close to home. Coach Amato's job is in jeopardy.
Now looking at those, I'm saying it's 50/50 that we sign him. I don't care what anyone else tells ya. A player is not going to sign with a school if he thinks the coach is going to leave/fired within 3-4 years. I think job security will play a role in his decision.
I know I said that I thought he was going to sign with NCS, but now after really looking at it, I'm changing my stance. I say he is going to sign with USC tomorrow.
I think we have Murdock too. If you could have seen OJ's face at the basketball game when all of those USC fans were chanting "We want OJ!", he looked like a kid with a free pass in a candy store. It made him feel really wanted. The only thing when it comes to OJ that I would be worried about is if Meyer guarantees him playing time as a freshman. :D

Last I heard, Murdock is supposed to make a decision tomorrow. I can't remember if I read or heard it. :) I have a lot going on right now and it's hard to keep track. LOL!
Eric Sledge is a very smart kid. He's the only one that has acknowledged Spurrier as the creator of modern day Gator football. I'm not too worried about Sledge. I think he knows who the real deal is. (Keep in mind that Meyer has NEVER won with his own players. He's always won with someone elses players.)
To be honest, a recruit is not going to bad mouth any university publicly. That just will cause problems for them and give him a bad rep. Do you know what OJ said about the crowd chanting his name? He said:
"Man, noone has ever done that before, not even in my hometown. This is totally cool."
I may be reading too much into that, but I really don't think I am. :D

RECRUITING: Eric Sledge pulls the trigger
By Ryan Jordan & GC Staff GatorCountry.com
Date: Jan 23, 2005
Eric Sledge made a visit to Columbia, SC last week and made a commitment to the Gamecocks. This week he decided to go ahead with a planned visit to Gainesville, FL. Could the Gators change his mind?
“I went to Florida this week and I changed my commitment. That is the place I want to be and I always wanted to be since I was growing up. I’ve wanted to be there my whole life and I stepped into that stadium I just knew that was it for me,” Eric Sledge said.
What was the best part about the weekend?
“The best part about the visit was the academics and the academic facilities they have. It’s so close to home and I just love it.”
Is Sledge now completely done with recruiting?
“I am absolutely through with recruiting now. No more in homes or official visits except with Coach Meyer.”
Scout.com will speak further to Eric Sledge about his commitment in the near future and GatorCountry.com will have a story from Eric's coach. Stay tuned!

I have no problem with a recruit originally saying he would come to us, but then deciding that he would go elsewhere (as long as he's honest about that possibility when he makes the commitment). This is such an important decision for these guys, as far as happiness and playing time is concerned. If he felt he was going to be happier in Gainesville (and only a football player could say that) then so be it.
What does piss me off, however, is last week Sledge said he was just taking this visit because his parents wanted him to, but he's 100% a gamecock. This week he says he's wanted to be a Gator his entire life. So basically, he's been completely lying the entire time. If he wanted to be a Gator he should have said, 'I'm committed to the Gamecocks, but I have to listen to what the Gators have to say. I could see myself as a Gamecock or a Gator. This is an important decision and I just need to explore everything.' No one on either side would blame him for saying something like that. But no, he just flat out lies to everybody.

I don't think any of us can relate to an 18 year old who is wooed and dazzled for 24 months by men who are schooled in the psychological arts into coming to a particular university where they will be the next great superstar and go on to glory and fame in the NFL

No doubt that these kids are subjected to High-Pressure sales tactics. Plus, to be honest, all USC has to offer is SS. While I cannot see him failing here at USC, it has to be pretty easy to argue why USC will not flourish under his leadership or point out all the problems going on in our program. Plus, we have this damn NCAA investigation looming. I don't know why, but I am getting real nervous about that thing...

Murdock will go to Florida and A. Atkins will shock the world by signing his letter of intent with Florida (which will in reality shock no one).

Give these kids a break. They are playing the same game that the coaches are. They are all playing the sales game. They are just trying to hype themselves up a bit. Recruiting is an art form, both for the recruiter and recruitee. Hats off to an 17 year kid who can play the field.
He can play the field without lying. Like I said, I have no problem with a kid decommitting as long as he let's the coaches know that it's even the slightest bit possible. He would have been playing the field if he just said, 'I'm committed to the Gamecocks, but I have to listen to what the Gators have to say. I could see myself as a Gamecock or a Gator. This is an important decision and I just need to explore everything.' In his heart he would have known that he wanted to be a Gator, but no one can expect him to say 'I'm only coming to Columbia because I don't think Florida wants me. If they did I would definitely go there in a heartbeat.' I can't respect flat-out lying though. I suppose it's possible that he did let Spurrier know that he was still seriously considering the Gators, and the kid just got nervous when the reporter called him to get a quote. Anyways, it's over and done with. It's not like I will have any real anger towards the kid, I just have a problem with this idea that lying is ok. No matter what area of life you work in, you can generalize statements so that you're not lying and not hurting yourself at the same time.
Spurrier's Next Target:
NR 4-Star WR Ruben Jackson
Height: 5-foot-11
Weight: 190 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.4 seconds

As far as Hannah is concerned, I'm just glad he's going to VTech instead of the other ACC options. I can respect that decision, since clearly they have a headstart on our program and use the TE so much.
Hopefully Murdock will come here, but even if he doesn't I think we have done pretty well this recruiting season....no matter what our final Rivals ranking is. We will have basically the same team as last season, with better coaching, and a handful of very skillful players added to the mix. If we can pull off a 6-5 or better regular season, including a UCF blowout on national television, then Spurrier should be able to have a fantastic class coming to Columbia in Fall '06.

You mean what happened to that UGA tailback by the name of Ware? He got POPPED by LB Ricardo Hurley and started coughing up blood. :D
Then a few weeks later, he SMEARS UT's Schaeffer and breaks his collarbone.
Hurley is a total beast on the field!!! :D
Speaking of Hurley, you know he was the #1 LB prospect by Rivals.com and the #17 recruit in the country.

Part of me wonders if Spurrier's telling it like it is isn't scaring off some of these kids that don't like the idea of hard work. And to me, that's a good thing. I want to see kids come to Carolina that actually want to come to Columbia, want to put in the work it takes to win the SEC and want to be a part of this program.
What detail could have been bothering Sledge about USC that he didn't see in UF can't be so huge that he would go from reiterating several times his committment to Gamecocks to suddenly becoming a UF signee? I know having the last visit is sometimes considered an advantage in recruiting but that is usually a cliche reserved for the undecideds, not those who have repeatedly stated their committment to a particular school.
I dunno...something about all of this doesn't sit right....what promises were made to this kid that made him change his mind so late in the game? Don't misunderstand, by no means do I think our recruiting season's success hinges solely on whether we were to get Eric Sledge or not. I'm just using him as a great example of a kid who was definite about where he was going to go and suddenly has a change of heart. He can go to UF to sit the bench...I just hope the reason is something benign like he knew he wouldn't have to work as hard in Meyer's system or something.
I ramble....excuse me, it's Monday.
You bring up some valid points.:)

Walker Decision Coming
LB Dakota Walker (6-4 225) of Mays Landing, NJ said Monday he hopes to have a decision by Tuesday. But, he's not sure he will. Walker returned home from Virginia Tech around 4:45 PM today and was not able to make the scheduled in home visit with Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer. He said he would contact Fulmer tonight to reschedule that visit. "They told me that they might be able to come by this Friday, but there's no guarantee," he said. If Fulmer is unable to make the in home visit before Friday, Walker said he might go ahead and make his decision tommorrow. He said not having the meeting would have no impact on his decision. Walker said he's open between USC, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
What did I tell ya Bantam? It's like I said before, sometimes I get bad info, but then again I get some pretty good info from very reliable sources.

There are many ways that you can read that. One way is what you said.
Korn said before his visit to VT that he was favoring us. Now he says he is even. I believe he is just trying to be courteous to Coach Fulmer. Our coaches are supposed to meet with him again this week. :D
Either way...It's us or VT/UT. I would imagine he would probably go with VT over UT though just because of the signings. UT has signed 2 LB's and that doesn't include what's already on the bench.
The reason I can see us over the others is because VT already has four (4) LB's there and that means he will ride the bench. The same goes for Tennessee. :D

These boys are just trying to make a splash in the papers. We will get good recruits eventually. Whether it be this year or next. Steve Spurrier has had his way most of this recruiting season and next year he will get the best QB and WR. I know this sounds hopeful but even Derrick Williams was interested in us for a while becuase the name SS has some pull. Now a good 8-3 or 9-2 record will lock in a top 5 recruiting season for next year!
Coaches Bombard Walker
The phone hasn't been far from the ear of LB Dakota Walker (6-4 225) of Mays Landing, NJ tonight. Besides the normal calls from media, Walker said coaches from all three schools still in the running have called. "And that's head coaches and assistants," he said. "I talked to every single coach." Walker said as of tonight USC and Virginia Tech are outfront with Tennessee "still in it somewhat. I don't know what I'm going to do. I've got to sleep on it." Walker said he could not say which team was ahead between USC and Virginia Tech. He hopes to make a decision Tuesday.
WOOHOOO! Thanks again!!!

I have not heard anything - think its deadlocked between us and UFA. He's probably waiting to see who both teams sign before he decides. I would be surprised if we don't have decisions out of most these kids by Friday. 3 and 4 star players can't afford to wait until NSD.
