Ware, Sledge Commit To USC
USC picked up at least two commitments Sunday morning from the group of official visitors in for the weekend. DB Jeremy Ware (5-11 185) of Fort Myers, FL said he committed Sunday morning during his exit interview with head coach Steve Spurrier and added the WR Eric Sledge of Apopka, FL also committed. Ware had been favoring the Gamecocks for several weeks. "I'd been knowing it was the right place for me," he said. "I just wanted to take some time and make my decision. They showed me a good time." He was hosted by Tremaine Tyler. Ware said he will play corner at USC. Last season he had 40 tackles and 7 interceptions. Ware was also offered by Louisville, Iowa State, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Troy State, South Florida and UNLV. He does not have any more visits scheduled but did not rule out taking another visit or two.

How come none of our 4 star players are ranked?

Rivals cannot get around and possibly rank every single recruit. :)

They usually send a scout to view them, watch film, look at stats, etc, etc.

Sledge Pumped To Play For Spurrier
Steve Spurrier had to convince WR Eric Sledge (6-4 195) of Apopka, FL that his offense would be better than Louisville's, and he did the job. Sledge committed to USC Sunday af the conclusion of his official visit. "It was a very hard decision," he said. "Louisville is the hottest team in the country right now. They've set all those offensive records. And if I were sure coach Petrino would be there four years, I might have committed to them. But coach Spurrier wants to achieve things that haven't been done before at South Carolina. He's a legend. He definitely has a history of putting receivers in the NFL. And I'm like, why can't I be the next one. I have a good chance to start next season. They have a great coaching staff and he's a living legend and a man of his word. Coach Spurrier told me he's going to have the best quarterback. He might get some guy who committed to North Carolina out of Tennessee (Cade Thompson). He's a pretty tall dude. He can really see over the line." Sledge has also visited West Virginia and Louisville and was scheduled to visit Ohio State and Florida the next two weekends. "I'm through," he said about more visits.

King To Be A Gamecock
He did not commit on his official visit to USC over the weekend, but DE Jarriel King (6-7 270) of North Charleston said he will commit to USC Wednesday when head coach Steve Spurrier comes to his school. "I want to have home field advantage," King said. "The visit went very well, I loved it. I liked what I saw. Columbia was a nice place to be. That's a nice staff they have. They seem like they want to be where I want to be, and that's in the championship. I will commit. Wednesday is the day. That's the day he's coming down. They are the only one for me. I don't think they is any need to visit anywhere else." King was scheduled to visit Clemson next weekend and Auburn on the 28th but said he won't make those trips. A big reason he chose USC, he said, is they recruited him as a defensive end, which is his preference. He said Clemson recruited him as an offensive lineman. This season King had 86 tackles and 13 sacks.

LB Damien Wright (6-2 190) of Crestwood has been committed to USC for some time and that commitment remains firm after his official visit over the weekend. "Everything went well," he said. "I met all the coaches. I feel comfortable around them and I look forward to playing for them. A relationship between me and them has developed." WR Freddie Brown (6-4 105) of Byrnes, who has been committed to USC, remains solidly so after his official visit over the weekend. "It went real good," Brown said. He was hosted by Sidney Rice. Brown said he will not take any more visits. And he said he will try to play basketball while at USC.

Walker Visits USC
According to his close friend and USC commitment Shea McKeen, LB Dakota Walker (6-4 225) of Mays Landing, NJ had a very good visit to USC and is considering making a commitment later in the week. Walker apparently did not commit on the visit but McKeen said head coach Steve Spurrier is to make his in home visit with him Thursday and Walker might make his commitment then. Walker has also visited Purdue, North Carolina and Tennessee. He is scheduled to visit Virginia Tech next weekend.

There were some people on this forum who said the same thing. I remember an Ole Miss fan by the name of Bentheleus, Im sure Del remembers him, who was all excited about them hiring Orgreon because he was supposed to be the best recruiter in college football. Well, Ole Miss is ranked at 55 so far just barely ahead of UK. Spurrier may not like to recruit but he is honest with the prospects and knows what plans he has and how to go about getting those plans to work. I think the players appreciate his honesty and are excited about becoming a part of this team and the plans Spurrier has for it. Recruiting should only get better in the years to come. Just imagine when he has been here a full year.

Walker Visits USC
LB Dakota Walker (6-4 225) of Mays Landing, NJ made his official visit to USC over the weekend. He did not commit but the Gamecocks are in strong shape. "It was a good visit," he said. "I had a lot of fun. There were nice people there. I didn't commit yet. It's either Tennessee, USC or Virginia Tech. USC and Tennessee are tied for the lead." Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier will visit Walker Thursday. Walker said he will visit Virginia Tech on the 21st.

Ragland Visits USC
DB Richard Ragland (6-2 195) of Atlanta made his official visit to USC over the weekend. "It was very nice," he said. "Just the opportunity to meet coach Spurrier. We talked about all kinds of stuff. We talked about some things he might try and do at South Carolina. It's a pretty good chance I'll commit. I want to go on a few more visits first.:" Ragland has also visited Tulane and East Carolina. He is scheduled to visit North Carolina this weekend but he's not sure he'll make the trip because his recruiter has moved to Oklahoma State. He is scheduled to visit Louisville on the 28th but he will move that visit up if he doesn't go to North Carolina. USC recruiter Ron Cooper is to visit him Tuesday. USC and Louisville are his top two. Ragland had 82 tackles and 4 interceptions this season. He also played receiver and had 23 catches for 350 yards and 4 touchdowns.

on a scale of 1-10 what would you rank our recruiting class so far?
On a scale of 1-10 I would rank our class so far as a high 7 or low 8. After this weekend it definately went up towards the 8 side. Carlos Thomas was one of the main recruits I had been keeping my eye on. He is one of the fastest players in the country. He should make somewhat of an impact his first year, but after that look for him to really come through. He will surely make it easier to get over the loss of Williamson to the draft. Many good players are coming in that should prove to be great players. However, one that I think goes unnoticed, as most kickers do, is Ryan Succop. In his senior season at high school he hit 12 of 14 field goals with a long of 41 yards. He hit all 44 of his extra points and 97% of his kickoffs resulted in touchbacks. He should help greatly with our special teams, which was our worst area last season. Many others will make a difference but I figured I would give some stats on him since he gets basically no attention and could be a big ingredient in the next few years.

No...he had a visit at USC and really enjoyed it. He was quoted as saying that he was going to "Shock" the world on NSD. According to what I have heard, he is favoring us, Florida, Florida State and Miami.

How would it shock the world if he went to one of the Florida schools? Think about it. :D

The only thing that would be more shocking than signing with SC would be to sign with a school that he hasn't publicly talked about. Maybe someone is very quietly recruiting him, if that's possible.

Richard Raglin has said the SC is now a clear leader for him, but that He wants to visit Louisville before he makes a decistion. He isnt ranked but is a 6'1" 185lb. DB who runs a 4.5 40. Given the talent at DB we have been recruiting, I dont see him starting right away if he commits, but would give us speedy depth at the postion. It seems this class is concentrated on speed with a few big physical players to balance things out. I am interested to see what kind of plans Spurrier has for our team with this kind of speed.

The better QB is the one that is visiting as we speak. A Cade Thompson (UNC commit). He isn't as highly rated but he seems to throw the short passes better. This being a trademark of ol' Stevie I believe he is key. Also with big-timer Sexton already commited and sure to take over the QB job for UNC I could easily see Thompson changing his commit to SC!

They are really going to be behind him and I want to be a part of it." Sapp said he will play mike linebacker with the Gamecocks. This season he had 150 tackles and 3 sacks. Spurrier Gets Final Shot With Tucker
LB Taalib Tucker (6-1 240) of Atlanta has finished with his official visits. He has canceled a January 28th trip to Ohio State. He has been to USC and Georgia Tech. Tucker has been committed to Tech and says the commitment "is still pretty strong." USC head coach Steve Spurrier will get his final crack at Tucker Monday night with his in home visit. "We'll see how it goes from there," Tucker said.

Todd Quiet About Plans
QB Chris Todd (6-3 208) of Elizabethtown, KY said Sunday very little about his thinking regarding his recruiting. He has been committed to Texas Tech but recent offers from USC, Oklahoma and Ole Miss have given him new options. He has visited Texas Tech, NC State and Memphis. He did not make a visit over the weekend but he might take one this coming weekend, though he didn't want to tip his hand. "I just don't want to say anything right now until I'm sure about what I'm going to do," Todd said. Todd said he'll know something about the weekend plans by the middle of the week.

Belcher Visits USC
ATH Mychal Belcher (6-1 180) of Dorman made his official visit to USC over the weekend. He has been committed to the Gamecocks and that commitment remains solid. He will not make any other visits. Belcher said USC will look at him as a defensive back, receiver and quarterback.

USC Offers Carrington
USC made an offer to RB Justin Carrington (6-0 205) of Bealton, VA this past Monday, and Carrington now has a visit scheduled with the Gamecocks on January 21. The Gamecocks will be Carrington's third visit, after visiting Ohio last weekend and Indiana this weekend. Carrington has offers from the Bobcats and Hoosiers, as well as from Navy, Bowling Green, Toledo and Miami-Ohio. Carrington said he is not sure if he will schedule any other visits. "Everybody's in consideration right now," he said.

Avery Atkins Update:

He really enjoyed his visit and has vowed to "Shock" the world on NSD.

That tells me he's coming here. It wouldn't be much of a shock if he signed with Florida, Florida State or Miami. Take it for what it's worth.:)

With Spurrier here, I don't feel like it is such a shock to come to USC to play. Maybe if you look at USC's past it might be shock but most would agree that wanting to play under Spurrier isn't a shock. All in all, I hope his "shock" means he plays in Columbia.

Spurrier admires loyalty. He won't get rid of his recruits. He will get rid of a few of Holtz's recruits if needed. I believe we are going to sign around 28-30 and may put some in JUCO or just recend the offer.

Personally, I think Belcher is the first one to be let go. I don't think I've heard Spurrier say one word about him.

I look more at who we are gaining these commitments again, and I think this is already a top 15 team, especially when we are beating out the likes of the Vols, Gators, Canes, Seminoles, Buckeyes and Longhorns.

I somewhat agree, although it is a good measure to let us know where we are. Tennessee looks to be racking up as usual, but we are nipping at their heels, especially with this type of recruiting!! If Spurrier can get these kids to learn his offense pretty quick, we should be in fine fashion for his first year!! I have no doubt he will do that.

The truth is there is probably not much difference between the top ten or fifteen recruiting classes. We are talking inches instead of feet - plus, it is all subjective anyway.

I was under the impression that we could not take more than 25 players in any class no matter what. Will some of these kids be NQs that will have to be placed in Juco?

I think you are right there. This is a matter of inches instead of feet. It is also fair to say I think that the difference between a 4 star and 5 star is most of the time a fairly small difference. That seems to be the difference. Some of the teams ahead of Carolina have at least one 5 star from what I can tell. The matter of 25 recruits I am not sure of. I would like clarification on that. :)

My guess will be that they are banking on some NQ's that they can place, as well as sum internal defection, on top of some let go's with the whole theft issue still in the air.....don't think SS is not telling them to hold off until he can see how this will pan out!

Jackson Might Set USC Visit
WR Ruben Jackson (5-10 190) of City College of San Francisco has only visited Oregon State but hopes to set a visit for this weekend. "I will know by Wednesday who I will visit this weekend," he said Sunday night. Jackson said he's looking at USC and Texas A&M as possibilities for the visit. He has not heard from his Gamecock recruiter, Steve Spurrier Jr., in a little over a week, so he expects him to hear from him early this week.

Rank Visits USC
RB Taylor Rank (6-2 201) of Vancouver, WA made his official visit to USC over the weekend. He has been committed to USC and is very firm with that pledge. He said several things impressed him on his first visit to his future home. "How great the coaching staff was," he said. "They are ready to have great success there. It's a beautiful campus. The stadium, I don't think there's a better facility anywhere in the nation." Rank rushed for 2020 yards and scored 35 total touchdowns last season. And he says Steve Spurrier plans to put him right to work. "They are not going to redshirt me," he said. "They are going to give me an opportunity to compete for the starting position." USC will be ranks only official visit.

Has anyone heard anything regarding O.J. Murdock's visit over the weekend. I have heard nothing. Was he impressed, did he hate it, what happened? If anyone can fill me in I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

Murdock Visits USC

WR O.J. Murdock (6-0 179) of Tampa made his official visit to USC over the weekend. He is in transit and has not been available but his younger brother Sherod spoke with him earlier this afternoon. "He really liked it up there," Sherod Murdock said. "The atmosphere and the school itself. He doesn't know yet (about a decision). He's still undecided." Murdock has also visited Florida State and is scheduled to visit Florida January 28th.

Thanks for the info. I hope we are able to land him. I never expected a top 25 class but Spurrier has done a great job so far. Maybe with a few more committments we could see a top 15 class which would be extraordinary considering the time he had to work with.

I haven't seen nor heard anything new about those guys. Personally, I think Spurrier is trying to "ignore" JUCO's because they are a quick fix. It's like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. Why waste a scolly on someone with 2 years when you can get someone fresh and coach them how you want them for 4 years? :)

Thompson Home From USC
QB Cade Thompson (6-4 180) of Maryville, TN and his parents visited USC over the weekend and returned home late Sunday night. Thompson has been committed to North Carolina but his mother said Monday afternoon there is still a decision to be made. "I guess now we have to talk things over and go from here," she said. "I don't know what our plans are at this point and time. We haven't sat down and talked about our South Carolina trip yet. I don't know what direction he's going to go in." Thompson is scheduled to visit North Carolina this weekend. Mrs. Thompson said the family spent a lot of time with head coach Steve Spurrier and assistant David Reaves while on campus.

King Spends Night In Hospital
DE Jarriel King (6-7 270) of North Charleston had a great time on his USC visit. So much so, he plans to commit to the Gamecocks Wednesday. But the good feeling he had after returning to Columbia was overshadowed by some major pain he suffered early Monday morning. King said he awoke around two in the morning with extreme pain in his lower mid section. King said he was taken to the hospital where he spent about five hours. Doctors have told him to stay in bed a minimum of three days. That aside, King said he still plans to meet with USC head coach Steve Spurrier Wednesday and make his commitment.

New Leaders For Bergen
TE William Bergen (6-4 250) of Tampa, who a week ago was very strong on USC after making his official visit there, now says Iowa State and Illinois are his two favorites. Bergen visited Iowa State over the weekend and was impressed. 'It went great," he said. "It was more urban. There was snow everywhere. It's a smaller town, more compact. I liked it. It kind of fit for me." Bergen will visit Illinois this weekend. He talked to his Gamecock recruiter David Reaves Monday morning and the two will get together Wednesday in Tampa.

Todd Considering USC Visit
QB Chris Todd (6-3 208) of Elizabethtown, KY, said that he talked with USC coach Steve Spurrier Monday, and he is considering a visit with the Gamecocks this coming weekend. He said that Spurrier will call him back later in the week to discuss the visiting plans. "I'm not 100 percent sure I'll make the visit," he said. Todd is currently comitted to Texas Tech, and he said, "If I had to decide right now, it would be Texas Tech." Todd has visited the Red Raiders as well as N.C. State and Memphis. Todd's offers include North Carolina, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, USC, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Mississippi. He said his situation with Oklahoma and Mississippi is similar to that with USC because the three schools all recently extended offers.

Thompson Decision Could Be Soon
QB Cade Thompson (6-4 180) of Maryville, TN said Monday afternoon he could have a final decision on a college by the middle of this week. Thompson has been committed to North Carolina since early August but he made an official visit to USC over the weekend. "The thing that stood out the most was the coaching staff," Thompson said. "I really like coach Spurrier. We spent most of Sunday with him. Everything was nice. We went to the basketball game Saturday night. That was fun. We watched film for a couple of hours, old Florida cutups. The stuff they did, I did in high school, so I think I'd fit in well. We're still in the process of thinking about things. I'll probably have a decision in the next couple of days. I couldn't tell you a leader right now. It's tough. I'm still committed but I don't know. Sometimes things change but as of right now I'm still committed." North Carolina recruiter Gary Tranquil is to visit with Thompson Tuesday. Spurrier is due in next week. Thompson is scheduled to visit North Carolina this weekend. He also has offers from Clemson, Wake Forest and Pittsburgh.

Young Favors USC
RB Brandyn Young (6-0 195) of Tucker, GA, said Monday that after two visits, he is currently favoring USC. Young visited with the Gamecocks January 7 and he was in Maryland this past weekend. He said he liked Maryland, but not as much as USC. Young said he likes the idea of playing for Steve Spurrier and how experienced the USC staff is. He also likes USC's facilities, and he said "I feel like I can compete for playing time." Young will visit Vanderbilt this coming weekend, and he said he will make an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech sometime after that. He said he's not sure when he'll make his decision.

Hannah Visits USC
Hope Mills, NC DE Jonathan Hannah (6-5 250) visited USC over the weekend with his parents and his mother said Monday that the visit was "fantastic." Rene Hannah said that her son still has not made a decision, and that he will not decide until he has made his last visit, which is next week at N.C. State. "He told me that he should know by this time next week where he wants to go," she said. She said that during their visit, USC coach Steve Spurrier "made it clear how much he wanted Jonathan." She said, "He's excited about the possibility of playing for a future hall of fame coach." Hannah has also visited Clemson, Virginia Tech and North Carolina, but Rene says that Jonathan is also considering schools he visited unofficially such as Florida State and Penn State.

USC Next Up For Ford
RB Mike Ford (6-2 205) of Sarasota was scheduled to visit Auburn this coming weekend but he said Monday night he won't make the trip because the Tigers recently picked up a running back commitment. That leaves only USC on his calendar and that visit will take place on the 28th. Ford has visited Alabama and says the Crimson Tide leads because that's been his only visit. Ford said his USC recruiter David Reaves is supposed to visit him Wednesday.

Marks Committed But Visiting
DL Sen'Derrick Marks (6-2 265) of Prichard, AL committed Monday to Auburn. "I just had a feeling," he said. But he still plans to visit USC this coming weekend. "I want to go to the SEC, so I want to see how the South Carolina visit turns out," he said. Marks said he won't visit Southern Miss on the 28th.

Including Belcher,

Personally I think Tommy Beecher is the real deal. I've seen him play in person. He's got a strong arm and the will to win. He simply refuses to give up and lose. This kid has thrown something to the tune of 90+ TD's in two (2) seasons and that's against 4-A opponents.

Beecher is a PURE drop-back passer and I think he has a shot to start this year. With all of the high profile QB's coming out of NC this year (Crompton, Sexton, etc, etc), Beecher just slipped under the radar. :D

Thompson Confirms USC Commitment
USC football coach Steve Spurrier has landed his second quarterback commitment for this class. Cade Thompson (6-4 180) of Maryville, TN said Tuesday afternoon he committed to Spurrier last night after decommitting from North Carolina. "Coach Spurrier called last night and I told him," Thompson said. "He talked to my dad earlier. He just asked what I was thinking and I told him that was where I wanted to go. He was excited. He might have been expecting it a little. I've always wanted the chance to play in the SEC. It's always been a dream of mine. South Carolina came along. It was hard to turn that down. And the chance to play for Spurrier. The job is open as of right now. It just depends on how spring practice goes. I'm just going to go down there and do what I have to do and work for playing time." Thompson passed for 2361 yards and 32 touchdowns with 3 interceptions this season. He has canceled his visit to North Carolina for this weekend.

Murdock Talks About USC
WR O.J. Murcock (6-0 179) of Tampa has been unavailable since his visit to USC. But he did talk briefly to the St. Petersburg Times about his recruiting:

Does Steve Spurrier have a realistic shot at Middleton High receiver O.J. Murdock ?

According to Murdock, yes.

Murdock visited South Carolina last weekend and lists it and Florida as his front-runners with Florida State third.

"There's a big football buzz right now," Murdock said of South Carolina. "It's a football town. They love it."

Murdock is scheduled to visit Florida on Jan.28 then make his choice. He scratched the Gators off his list after Ron Zook was fired, but new coach Urban Meyer persuaded Murdock to reconsider during a visit to Tampa last month.

Murdock said he disagrees with the notion that Spurrier dislikes recruiting. The former Florida coach visited him in Tampa a few weeks ago, and the two spent time together in Columbia last weekend.

"He's a cool man, very open-minded," Murdock said. "He tells you straight forward how it is."

It seems that Spurrier has decided to start recruiting qb's again. I think this shows that he has filled in key postitions faster than even he thought. After getting a committment from Beecher he had stopped worrying about the qb position for a while. After filling some other key areas he has started trying to get more options at the qb spot. The thing the 2 good qb commits have in common so far is the turnover ratio. Their efficiency is awesome. Now we are trying for a 3 star qb who is committed to Texas Tech. That should say enough right there. Texas Tech is one of the biggest passing schools in the country. Spurrier is supposed to be visiting his high scool in Kentucky this week to talk about SC. After that the qb Chris Todd will decide if he wants to set up a visit to SC.

Chris Todd I do not know. King, from what I have heard, is still expecting to meet Spurrier tomorrow, and will probably commit. Hope that helps. :)

Aaron Brown is almost certainly going to Kansas. Havent heard anything lately about Gamble, but he will probably be going to a prep school or JUCO.

I don't expect Chris Todd to come visit or even consider us now that we have 2 QB commitments. Plus you have to see that we have Newton, Mitchell, Hefner, Rathe, and a few walk-ons. To be completely honest I believe that Hefner is the QB of the future. He was a 3 star-drop back passer out of high school.

After getting a committment from Carlos Thomas the chances of Shelley getting a good bit of attention from SC has dropped. Not to mention the fact that OJ Murdock was impressed with his visit to SC.

I don't think there is a true field captain out of the whole lot of them. First,Newton is not a true drop back passer.Mitchell threw interceptions every time he was put in the game, the play was to fast for him. The rumours lately suggest that Hefner might be DQ because of grades. Finally, I don't think the ncaa will give Rathe a six year, but he is a gamer.

I agree with those statements, however, remember Spurrier specializes in coaching quarterbacks. Was a darn good one himself. He may can help Newton. If not, he certainly knows how to pick a starter out of the lot. From what I understand, the three things he requires is 1. Make good throws 2. Make good decisions 3. Know how to read defenses Whoever proves they can do that will be the starter. I have no idea on the starter right now.

If we can get OJ Murdock, that is the one we want. If Slick Shelley ticked Spurrier off with his attitude, I can pretty much say the answer to will he come here is NO. :) Plus, with the commitments we have, he is probably having to be a little bit more careful with his final selections.

Report: Ford Commits To Alabama
According to a report on Scout.com, RB Mike Ford (6-2 205) of Sarasota committed Tuesday night to Alabama. Ford visited Alabama January 7th. He is scheduled to visit USC on the 28th and he said in the story he still thinks he will make that visit.

Walker To See Spurrier Thursday
LB Dakota Walker (6-4 225) of Mays Landing, NJ made his official visit to USC last weekend. This Thursday night he will entertain Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier in his home. Walker said Tuesday night he's not favoring a school right now. He is scheduled to visit Virginia Tech this weekend but is not sure he'll make it. He's also visited Purdue, North Carolina and Tennessee.

He (Ford) says he still wants to visit USC on the 28th. If I were SS I would tell him thanks, but no thanks.

What other RBs do we have on our board? Is Brandyn Young still a possibility?

Looks like we still have a shot at:

Murdock
Walker

What others???

We would have loved to have Ford, but it's not over with yet. We do have the last visit with him. Other than that, RB's are a dime a dozen every year. If we don't take one this year, we'll snatch one up next year. We are decently staffed at TB anyways.

One player that I would say "Thanks, but no thanks" while giving him the bird is Mike Davis. Now if he isn't a cocky little punk? He goes around talking trash about SC schools and what is he doing? Visiting USC and Clemson because no one other than Kentucky is interested in this kid anymore. He has a serious "Holier than thou" attitude.

"I had planned on doing it for a while, I just wanted to make sure," he said. King said he evaluated the school during his visit there this past weekend and was impressed. "The weight room is state of the art nice," he said. He said he also likes the academic programs and the faculty and staff at the university. "They are very nice people."

King also said he is feeling better after being hospitalized over the weekend with pain in his lower mid-section. "It's day by day now, but I should be all the way better by at least this Monday," he said.

Bergen Drops Gamecocks
TE William Bergen (6-4 250) of Tampa has dropped USC from his list, narrowing it to down to Illinois, Iowa State and Purdue. "The thing that turned me away from South Carolina is that they wanted me to play center, and that's something I've never done before. So I wasn't very interested in that," he said. Bergen said he would like to play either TE or OT, but not on the interior of the line. Bergen has visited Pittsburgh, USC and Iowa State, and he will visit Illinois this weekend. "I might go ahead and commit when I'm there, but it depends on how everything goes," he said. Whether or not he commits to the Illini, Bergen said he is still considering making a visit to Purdue on January 28. Bergen said he's interested in these three schools because their engineering programs all rank highly.

It was a pretty generic interview, but I thought the USC faithfull might enjoy hearing the highlights. Cade had offers from Clemson and UNC going into winter. His offers expanded to Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, and USC. His HS coach contacted the USC office, once the ole ball coach took over. Tape was sent of Cade in action and that led to the Gamecocks bringing in Cade for a visit. He enjoyed his visit, went to the UT/USC basketball game. On Sunday Cade spent somewhere in the 1-2 hr range watching old gator film with CSS. CSS wanted to show the offense he was bringing to Columbia. The chance to play in the SEC and for CSS were the determining factors for his choice. Cade my not be labeled a superstar, but the kid is a good guy from all accounts around town. He is a winner and should help bring the mindset of being the best.

Anyone that wins 35 straight games knows how to win in my book. I am excited because for one we are getting a decent kid. The second reason is because the UNC TarHOLES are so PO'd right now it's not funny.

I love pi$$ing off UNC because they talk more smack than Clemson. :D They talk all this smack, but at the same time refuse to play us unless it's a 2-game series. One in Charlotte and the other in Chapel Hill.

Either put up or shutup! Don't talk smack and then refuse to play the team.

For those of us who are old enough to remember the ACC days this is especially sweet. (Right Gal??? ;) )

I hated UNC worse than any team in the ACC. Maryland was a close second followed by NCSU. Clemson was just an also-ran in basketball those days and football was nothing compared to the McGuire years in basketball. It was almost a minor sport. I remember when we would beat UNC with Roche and Owens and they would both just about spit in Dean Smith's face. (Smith had a habit of talking to opposing players from the bench.) They would always belly-ache about losing to us.

My favorite UNC players to hate were Walter Davis followed closely by Bobby Jones. Then there was the guard that went on to be a decent coach - I forget his name and a guy named Charlie something or other.

God I hate the color baby blue.

Conway DE Hivera Green (6-5 268) is scheduled to meet with Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden tonight in Conway and according to a source will give his committment to the Tigers. The source said Green actually gave the Tigers a "silent commitment" on his official visit last weekend. Green is scheduled to visit Virginia Tech on January 28, and may or may not make that visit. He also visited USC.

I don't quite know why ya'll all believe that Atkins and Murdock are already penciled in to play in the garnet and black next year. I would love this (especially Murdock because we already have good DB recruits and great players already on scholarship [Joseph and Tyler])! But it seems that the Flordia schools have a firm grip on these FLORDIA boys. Atkins lists Flordia and FSU as his favorites and him choosing FSU would "shock" many due to his commitment to Florida. I know this might not shock the community as a whole but wouldn't we be shocked if one of our big time recruits jumped ship and joined Clem-Tech. And Murdock says it has always been his dream to play for Flordia. Here is hoping that I am wrong but for some reason I think our late start hurt us here. Next year though I am seeing a top 5 maybe #1 recruiting class.
