I gave birth to the post right after Spurrier was announced as the HC. It is the most viewed/responded post in SECTalk.com history.
Maybe a few years down the road, we can go back and read it from the very beginning.

They will all be unofficial visits. The coaches don't want any official visitors this weekend. Also, Garcia can't come this week.
If McCray comes, then he is bringing his teammate, 3-star RB Troy Pollard.
Travian Robertson is coming with fellow commitment Byron McKnight, and they are bringing a top junior MLB from their school.
Barnes and Gray are bringing Chaz Washington a Chris Bonds, both highly thought of underclassmen.
Arkee Smith and Jamire Williams will be here, too.
Also, Cliff Matthews will be here.

I haven't heard anything about Garcia not coming yet. I guess when I make my call later this afternoon I'll know for sure.
Either way, the more the merrier.

So Neo which one(s) of these are we in pretty position to get a commit from? The Caleb King news kinda came out of left field (especially since were not his rivals list), but it is great news. Earlier I think WB said we were going to get a speed running back to compliment Maddox's power rushing so my question is whether King is that man or not?

Caleb has been talking to the coaching staff for the last month or so. He's intrigued about early playing time and the coaching staff. He knows that USC doesn't have the history of UGA, but the fact is USC is a place where he can be a household name and he knows this. His grades aren't in question either. As far as commitments, I really couldn't tell you exactly, but watch out for Gray, Barnes and quite possibly Carlos Dunlap. (DE)

I think so. Caleb is a great TB and has breakneck speed and good vision. Personally, I think he's better than Noel Divine. Do we have a chance at him? I really think we do. He will be at the game to take in the atmosphere and such, so we need to have a really good showing.
We need to be totally nuts tomorrow evening. Let him feel that 2001 entrance and see how the Gamecock nation will love him if he comes here.

You think Gray would recommit? That would be interesting. I think your right about Barnes, he has been flirting with the idea for a while, I think the instate people have kept him from pulling the trigger thus far. And once again, that King info still blows my mind, congrats on beating all the pay sites on that one. It just proves your sources are the real deal.

"One of Georgia's top quarterback recruits announced his college choice Thursday. Another could make his decision as soon as Friday.
Cameron Newton, Westlake High's 6-foot-6, 230-pound star passer, said Thursday he'd sign with Florida in February. Newton chose the Gators over Oklahoma and Mississippi State in part because he?s become such a big fan of current UF quarterback Chris Leak.
Newton, who?s also one of Atlanta?s top basketball players, threw for 2,189 yards and ran for another 638 as a junior. Scout.com ranks him as the No. 19 overall prospect in Georgia, four spots ahead of where Rivals.com lists him. Both recruiting Web sites regard Newton as the second-best quarterback prospect in the state.
The No. 1 player on that list, Greene County's Josh Nesbitt, could be the next to make his announcement, which is expected any day. Nesbitt, whose team faces Caleb King and Greater Atlanta Christian on Friday night, had trimmed his final four to Georgia Tech, Auburn, South Carolina and Florida.
With Newton announcing for the Gators, it?s unlikely Florida is still in the Nesbitt running. Earlier, Florida received a commitment from Fort Washington, Md., quarterback Joe Haden, giving the Gators two QB commitments in the Class of 2007."
Maybe I missed something along the way, but I don't think I have seen anyone talking about Nesbitt. Does anyone know anything about him? Obvisouly if he is rated higher than Newton he must be pretty good. Guess he's been lost in all of the Steven Garcia talk?
congrats on beating all the pay sites on that one. It just proves your sources are the real deal.
Thanks!
I cannot stand pay for info sites. It's just plain tacky to charge a fellow fan for information. I mean, we're all fans here.
I will NEVER charge money for information that I receive. The only thing I get out of it is being able to share the excitement with my fellow USC fans. In all honesty, that's the way it should be.

He's a good QB...didn't have a commitable offer from UF because he's more of a pocket passer type...a lot like Garcia. BTW, I think he committed to GT last night...that's what I'm hearing anyway.

I'm definately not saying we had/are going to have a bad recruiting class at all. Sorry if I came off that way. I was just saying that was one of the reasons why we worry about recruiting. It's a pain in the ass to follow, but then again you get the same kind of feeling you get when you win the lottery when a high profile guy commits to you (Of course, I think that's what it feels like. I haven't ever won anything in my life  ).

Barnes Will Watch USC
By Phil Kornblut
WR Jason Barnes (6-4 196) of Charlotte will attend the USC-Georgia game Saturday night his coach Tom Knotts said Friday afternoon. "He's going to be going there with one of his teammates," Knotts said. Barnes visited North Carolina last weekend with his mother, and until this afternoon it wasn't known for sure whether he would be at USC this weekend or North Carolina. Knotts said he expects that Barnes will make a decision between the Gamecocks and Tar Heels next week.

Washington Close On Offers
By Phil Kornblut
Junior LB Chaz Washington (6-3 200) of Richland Northeast is emerging as one of the bright prospects for 2008 and is getting stronger interest from the major programs. Washington said he's getting regular contact from USC, Clemson, Notre Dame, NC State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. He says USC, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech appear close to making him offers and they are at the top with him right now. Washington plans to be at the USC-Georgia game Saturday night.

Sophomore Hoopster Visiting USC
By Phil Kornblut
6-5 Kinard Gilliard of Georgetown is regarded as one of the top players in the state for the 2009 class after an impressive run through the state AAU tournament this summer in which he averaged 21 points per game and was named the MVP. Gilliard will make an unofficial visit to USC Saturday as the Gamecocks are showing strong interest along with Clemson, Temple and Baylor. Gillard averaged 11 points per game last season. He also plays free safety for the Georgetown football season.

I'm not going to call his bluff because I have no proof. However, I just skimmed over several pages of the message boards at Auburn's Rivals site, and there has been no mention of Caleb King making that statement. Rivals doesn't report that a kid has committed until Rivals does an interview with the kid, but if anyone had seen that interview (and I'm assuming at least one Auburn fan would have seen it), then it would have blown up on their boards over there.
He's a long shot, definitely, but he's going to be here tomorrow, and that's all I'm worried about. I'd rather him go to Auburn than Georgia anyway.

HUGE Weekend
Tony Morrell
GamecockCentral.com Recruiting Analyst
Talk about it in The Insiders Forum
The South Carolina Gamecocks will not only play host to the Georgia Bulldogs tomorrow night at Williams-Brice Stadium. They will also entertain a large group of recruits, including some of their top overall priorities in the class of 2007. Find out which ones will be making the trip to Columbia in this Gamecock Central exclusive.
Four-star, Rivals100 member and Gamecock commitment Travian Robertson will be in Columbia this weekend.
Leading off the list of unofficial visitors are the current Gamecock commitments. Laurinburg (N.C.) Scotland County bookends Travian Robertson and Byron McKnight will be in town, and they're expected to bring along highly rated junior middle linebacker Terrell Manning. South Carolina and North Carolina have both extended offers to Manning, and he is said to be tight with his elder teammates.
Anderson (S.C.) T.L. Hanna four-star running back Brian Maddox is set to take in his first official Gamecock game in person, and don't be surprised to see him sitting with close friend and fellow Gamecock commitment and four-star offensive lineman Quintin Richardson, who is currently recovering from a partially torn MCL in his knee. Maddox is also expected to bring teammate and close friend Cameron Ford with him. Ford, who plays defensive end, tight end and wide receiver for his team, is off to a tremendous start to the 2006 season, and he is a player South Carolina is watching closely. Should they decide to offer, a commitment shouldn't be far behind.
Other South Carolina pledges to be in the stands are Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake cornerback Addison Williams and Wadesboro (N.C.) Anson County athlete Michael Bowman, who is off to a blazing start in his senior season.
Other top in-state prospects expected to be in attendance include Columbia (S.C.) Richland Northeast teammates Gary Gray and Mark Barnes, who will be joined by underclassmen teammates in sophomore defensive end Chris Bonds and junior linebacker Chaz Washington.
Saturday night will be the first game four-star defensive end Cliff Matthews has seen in Columbia.
Cheraw (S.C.) four-star defensive end Cliff Matthews tripped to Athens last weekend to watch Georgia take on Western Kentucky, and he'll get his first taste of Gamecock football when he makes the trip to Columbia on Saturday. He will be accompanied by Cheraw junior receiver Jaron Brown and sophomore star running back/cornerback Travis Small. Brown holds an early offer from Clemson, and Small is expected to be highly recruited in the coming years.
North Charleston (S.C.) Fort Dorchester four-star defensive end Carlos Dunlap will be in Columbia this weekend. He plans to bring one of his teammates and close friend along in junior defensive end Robert Quinn. Quinn will be one of the top overall prospects in the Palmetto State's class of 2008, and he and Dunlap have expressed a strong interest in attending the same school.
Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian five-star running back Caleb King, the nation's No. 1 tailback, is someone the Gamecocks are expecting to be in town. While Auburn and Georgia are thought to be the teams to beat for his services, anytime you can get a player of King's caliber on your campus it's a good thing. A strong offensive performance and a great atmosphere could be enough to pique King's interest even further.
Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast teammates Jamire Williams and Arkee Smith will be traveling from the Sunshine State. Williams, a three-star cornerback, and Smith, a two-star safety, are both Gamecock leans. While Williams told GamecockCentral.com earlier this week that he isn't sure when he'll make his decision, a commitment from both players is not out of the question.
Four-star defensive lineman D'Angelo McCray could be in attendance tomorrow night.
Two other Jacksonville area prospects who may be in attendance are Andrew Jackson High School stars D'Angelo McCray and Troy Pollard. As of Friday morning, it was still up in the air as to whether they were going to be able to make the trip. Even if they aren't able to make it, both are expected to visit USC officially later this season.
Charlotte (N.C.) Independence wide receiver Jason Barnes has been struggling to make a decision between South Carolina and North Carolina for some time. Last weekend he witnessed the Tar Heels lose to Rutgers, and this weekend he'll compare what he saw in Chapel Hill to what he finds in Columbia.
Lake City (S.C.) linebacker Scotty Cooper made a commitment to Clemson early this summer, and he attended the Tigers opener last weekend against Florida Atlantic. Cooper has maintained contact with the Gamecock coaching staff, and they will get their chance to impress him this weekend, as he is supposed to be on-hand.
South Carolina made the decision late this summer to offer Sumter (S.C.) offensive lineman Kyle Nunn, who is currently committed to Virginia Tech. Nunn will be in Columbia on Saturday, and is a player USC may be able to sway into their court if they push.
Three-star athlete Markish Jones currently favors Florida State and Clemson.
Spartanburg (S.C.) Broome wide receiver/athlete Markish Jones is expected to take in the game on Saturday night. One thing working against Jones is he wants to play receiver at the next level, and USC has offered him as a safety. He currently favors Clemson and Florida State, both of which are recruiting him as a receiver.
Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail four-star offensive lineman Thomas Edenfield had planned to take an unofficial visit to Columbia earlier this summer, but had to cancel at the last minute. This could work to South Carolina's advantage, as Edenfield is supposed to be in town this weekend, which will allow him to see the game atmosphere at Williams-Brice, something he couldn't have done had he visited earlier this summer.
Another highly thought of junior prospect is Greenville (S.C.) J.L. Mann cornerback J.T.Floyd, who will be making another of several unofficial visits to South Carolina this weekend.
One top priority who had hoped to take in the game that will not be there is Tampa (Fla.) Jefferson four-star quarterback and Gamecock lean Stephen Garcia. He is, however, expected to attend at least one USC home game later this season.
Other prospects who could take in the contest include Hamlet (N.C.) Richmond County linebacker Melvin Ingram, Taylorsville (N.C.) Alexander Central defensive lineman Kyle Linney, LaGrange (Ga.) four-star defensive end D.J. Stafford, Hawkinsville (Ga.) defensive end Sa'Coby Carter and Hartwell (Ga.) Hart County defensive lineman and Kentucky commitment Shane McCord.

Neo and/or WB, any word on how much last night hurt our efforts with any of the recruits present for the game?
I saw an article today that Gray now says ND has a 55-45 lead, which says to me that he really wants to stay here, but he also really wants to win. If so I think a strong showing against Auburn (not necessarily a win, just avoiding embarrassment like last night) might be enough to sway him back to our side if South Bend as a community doesn't blow him away next weekend.

Matthews Watches USC-Georgia
By Phil Kornblut
DE Cliff Matthews (6-5 230) of Cheraw made another unofficial visit to USC Saturday night for the Georgia game. "I felt pretty good about it," Matthews said. "I was impressed with how loud the fans were. I talked with coach Lawing and coach Nix. I also met with some of the players. I really wasn't pulling for either team." Matthews has cut North Carolina from his list and has narrowed his decision to USC, Clemson and Georgia. He has set an official visit with Georgia for October 7th when the Bulldogs host Tennessee. He will also set visits with Clemson and USC. He will make an unofficial visit to Clemson for the North Carolina game. Matthews said he does not have a favorite. Through three games Matthews has 36 total tackles and 12 sacks.

Gaffney QB Visits USC
By Phil Kornblut
The interest in Gaffney QB Malcolm Long (6-2 224) continues to grow. Long was invited by USC to make an official visit for the Georgia game and he did come in along with teammates WR Tyson Petty and TE Richard Good. "Coach Nix is working with me and we went down there to check it all out," Long said. "It was nice but I didn't talk to any of the coaches while I was there." Long received a letter from Clemson last week inviting him for a game there and he plans to go to one in the next few weeks. He has an offer from SC State and is also getting interest from Wake Forest, East Carolina and NC State.

Deloach Planning USC Commitment
By Phil Kornblut
He didn't give the word during his official visit over the weekend, but 6-4 Trevor Deloach of Saluda does plan to make a commitment to USC soon, possibly later this week. "It went well," Deloach said of the visit. "I saw the whole team. I got to spend more time with them. I got to see how the atmosphere is there and I can't imagine what it is for basketball. I got to visit with the weight and conditioning coach and got to know the coaches more. I haven't committed yet but they are way about everybody else. I know that's where I want to go but I want to compare the other schools." Deloach is scheduled to visit UT Chattanooga this weekend but said he doesn't plan to make the visit since he's decided to commit to USC. He also has offers from Jacksonville, College of Charleston, Winthrop, East Carolina, Penn State and Appalachian State.
The Gamecock basketball staff had about 15 prospects in Saturday night for unofficial visits including 6-7 junior Murphy Holloway of Dutch Fork, 6-8 sophomore Milton Jennings of Pinewood Prep, 6-2 junior Lashay Page of Latta and 5-11 freshman Eric Smith of Mullins.

Sorry. I just got in from watching my Jaguars put a hurting on the Tuna and T.O. It's 1:50 am, and I haven't heard anything about our recruiting. I'm sleeping in big time tomorrow, but if I hear something tomorrow, then I'll let you know.
Actually, I do have something. I don't know how the game impacted our recruits, but I can tell you that Jamire Williams and Arkee Smith didn't make it to the game because their transportation fell through.

If someone bases their decsion on a team based on one game then he probably isn't smart enough to pass the classes in college so him striking us off his list isn't such a big deal to me.
That and SC really didn't "suck" in the game anyways. They drove into the 20 (twice at the 2) three times and mistakes doomed the touchdown, not lack of ability. Had SC scored those points and not made that stupid pitch play that resorted in the safety the score would have been at the least 17-13 in SC's favor. The defense played really good (only one TD) and will only improve. I will stick by the assesment that the better team (in this game, I feel UGA is strong but we outplayed them besides the mistakes) lost that game.

I got a little bit of news.
Robertson enjoyed it a lot, and said that the crowd and atmosphere was wonderful. He also noted that Clemson was the only school that continued to send him text messages and mail, but he said he was 100% commited and nothing would change that.
Maddox also was highly impressed with the atmosphere, and went on to say that it was much better than our upstate rival's games... which he said he used to attend on a regular basis.
Unforunately, I haven't heard a lot about recruits that we are trying to get on board. I'm pretty sure we lost Matthews (this isn't even certain, but I would think so after he saw which team was better), but other than that I haven't heard anything about anyone else, and was actually hoping I'd find something here. Just got to keep waiting I guess...

Nunn Takes Closer Look At USC
By Phil Kornblut
OL Kyle Nunn (6-6 280) of Sumter, who has been committed to Virginia Tech, made an unofficial visit to USC for the Georgia game last weekend. "I've never seen a game there that packed (with fans)," Nunn said. "I saw a possible chance for playing time if I were to go to South Carolina. But I'm still committed to Virginia Tech." Nunn said he had the chance to talk with USC assistants John Hunt and David Reaves. His Virginia Tech recruiter plans to come down to watch him play September 22nd. Nunn said he will set official visits with USC and Virginia Tech.

USC A Factor with Tennessee Back
By Phil Kornblut
RB Golden Tate (5-11 185) of Hendersonville, TN said earlier in the summer he liked USC a lot, and he still feels that way. "I'm very interested in South Carolina," Tate said Monday night. The Gamecocks have offered Tate who also plays receiver. He also likes Alabama, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Florida and Georgia Tech. Alabama and Vandy have offered. He probably will set official visits with USC and Alabama. He said because Vanderbilt is so close by, he won't need to schedule an official visit there. Tate said he does not have a favorite.

By Phil Kornblut
DB/WR Ryan Broyles (5-11 170) of Norman, OK will make an official visit to USC September 23rd. He has made an official visit to Texas A&M and will also set a visit with Texas Tech. Broyles said he was first contacted by Gamecock recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. in the summer. "He coached one of my assistant coaches at Oklahoma," Broyles said. "He's been in touch with me a good bit." Broyles also has offers from Oklahoma State, Kansas, Iowa State, Arkansas, Tennessee, Tulsa, Michigan State and Vanderbilt. He lives five minutes from the Oklahoma campus and he said the Sooners started showing more interest after his first game. He went to the Sooners' game last weekend and will go to Oklahoma State this weekend. Last season Broyles had 38 tackles and 5 interceptions with one returned for a touchdown. And he had 19 catches for 355 yards and 5 scores.

He is favoring the cardinals. he said that there coach called him after the Kentucky game. he said that call meant alot to him because even though Bush just got injured Petrino was still thinking about Barnes.
his exact words in the article are "It's Louisville and USC at the top. They're on the same level, but I'd say Louisville has a slight edge as of today. That phone call just meant a lot to me. I'm still thinking I may take it all the way to signing day before I do anything."

Garcia isn't a 5-star, and he probably won't make it to that status. There are already several 5-star quarterbacks. I doubt they add another one.
The reason Rivals has Mark Barnes listed that way is because he probably hasn't done an interview with him like PK has done. Rivals doesn't update a player's profile until one of their reporters does an interview with the player.

WR Mark Barnes (6-3 195) of Richland Northeast was on hand at Louisville for the Cardinals' blowout victory over Miami Saturday for his official visit. Barnes says everything he experienced at Louisville was positive. "The people were cool there and the atmosphere was real cool there," he said. "The facilities were nice. They have a whole indoor field that's real nice. It's turf and everything. They have a track on the size where they can time you. Their weight room is big enough for all of them to get a workout at the same time. I was impressed. All of the coaches are cool. Me and some of the coaches sat down and talked for a while and got to know each other. I talked withi coach Petrino Saturday and again before I left." Barnes said members of his family went with him on the visit. He plans to sit down early this week and plan out other official visits and unofficial visits. He said two other officials he sure about are Southern Cal and Notre Dame. He said USC and Louisville remain basically even with him right now. Barnes made an unofficial visit to USC for the Georgia game, and returned to the campus the middle of last week to meet with coaches and academic advisers.

Anyone who can come to Columbia and see us get shut out by UGA and then the next week go to Louisville and see the Cards stomp the crap out of the Canes and still have us even is biased towards SC. That could turn out to be a great thing for SC. Heres to hoping we can land him. Barnes would be a huge addition to this class.

Published: September 18, 2006
One time USC commitment DB Gary Gray (5-10 165) of Richland Northeast committed to Notre Dame Monday morning at the conclusion of his official visit with the Irish according to his godfather and RNE assistant coach Duayne Wages. Gray committed to USC in the spring but retracted that committment in July when he began strongly considering Notre Dame after he and his mother made an unofficial visit to South Bend. "He felt like that was the right place for hm," Wages said. "He had it in his mind a week or so back." Wages says the Notre Dame coaching staff made a big impression on Gray. "A major reason was his relationship with his would be position coach," he said. "And coach Weiss has done a great job recruiting him. And he was real impressed with the kind of guys he'll be surrounded by." Gray is scheduled for an official visit to USC this weekend but Wages is not sure if that will take place now.

We need some kids w/ ***** Character not just ***** Ratings. Not sour grapes either. I will pull for Adam Patterson, Leon Hart, Junior Hemmingway, and most of the kids that leave this state to have great careers. The way Gray has handled this is low class. I don't want to hear anybody reply to this post that he's only 18. My father taught me long before I was 18 that your word was the most important thing you would ever be judged by. Did none of you have character when you were 18. This circus show of Gary Gray recruiting for us and then all of a sudden not being sure where he wants to go is ridiculous. I look forward to Adam Patterson's team drubbing Gary Gray's team for the next few years. Unless of course he decides to go to Texas or something. CHARACTER COUNTS

Gray said one of the reasons he chose ND was because the fans didn't leave the game early, even though ND was getting worked silly. I don't endorse leaving the game early. I never have done it on my own accord (we left early once when I was 11 in 1996 when Florida beat us 63-7), and I never will.
The question is this: Who is Gary Gray to comment on loyalty?

You know I really don't care what he does. If he is not 100% Notre Dame he needs to just shut up. If he is 100% sure I don't really care about that either.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Finally some one agrees with me. I stated in this thread several weeks ago that this kid has no clue what character is or means and I got jumped on about my attitude. Thank God this poor baby is going to go some where else and pout and pooch up and be the no character clown that he's made himself out to be. Have fun in the snow and don't spend you're signing bonus all in one place!!

USC Turns Up Interest In Brimfield
By Phil Kornblut
USC defensive line coach Brad Lawing scouted DL William Brimfield (6-5 287) of Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Friday night and must have been impressed by what he saw. "He said he wanted to offer," HKT coach Jermaine Derricott said. "He's still committed to North Carolina, but he went (to South Carolina) for the Wofford game." Brimfield committed to the Tar Heels after receiving an offer from them at their summer camp. Since then USC has shown stronger interest.

I'll admit it and go ahead and tell ya to your face... you're optimism can make you look really stupid at times, but I admire it. You are definately one of the most cheeful Gamecock fans I have ever met, and several people could learn a lesson on how to cheer on our team from you.
Anyways, back to recruiting, I personally think that if we end up with either Broyles or Auguste, the loss of Gary Gray will mean nothing. Both of them have the potential to be as good as him, and the margin of talent between those three is very slim.
And one more thing... WHEN IS JASON BARNES GOING TO ANNOUNCE? :brick:

Well, not to the extent to what really happened to that Virginia football player. Did you know that after Cory Boyd laid him out, he NEVER played football again and had to go through a massive recovery process?
Anyways, nah... I don't want him to get killed. I would love it for him to get absolutely laid out though to the point were he doesn't get truly injured. If that doesn't happen, then I would want Rice to humiliate him by making an awesome one-handed catch for a TD with Gray getting a pass interference call on himself by trying to stop Sidney from grabbing the ball. Either one of those scenarios would be beautiful  !

It's not about academics. The fact that they keep bringing it up is to give an excuse for why he chose one over the other. And the fact that you have to have an excuse gives credence to the notion that there may be more here than meets the eye. It's like someone said, if you're so fired up over academics, then fine, we can accomodate. The idea that GG is going to get "a better job" with a ND education is pure, prime, aged and dried, BS! But why act like it's important?? Check for agents at work, ala USC Trojans.

Maye Feels Close To USC Offer
By Phil Kornblut

"I talked with coach Cooper last Thursday," he said. "He said he was very impressed with me when he saw me in the spring. He said I was a playmaker. He wants to get a little senior film he can show the coaches and they are probably going to offer me. It's looking real good for me with South Carolina right now." Maye said he will make an official visit to USC after his season. He has offers from Southern Miss and Louisiana Lafayette. He's also getting interest from Memphis, Kentucky, Purdue, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Michigan State and Florida. Maye said he does not have a favorite but he's most interested in USC, Auburn, Alabama and Southern Miss.

Myrtle Beach Unleashes Secret Weapon
By Phil Kornblut

But he decided to join the football team recently and saw his first game action in the third week of the season. In the win over Dillon, Singleton rushed for 87 yards and had 57 yards receiving with two touchdowns. He is playing receiver, running back and cornerback for coach Scott Earley. "He may be the best pure athlete I've ever seen," Earley said. Word is just now circulating about Singleton and schools are just getting the chance to check him out. Clemson and USC are aware of him.

I just had a friend tell me that Gray called the Athletics Department and asked for 12 tickets to the Auburn game. He said he still wasn't sure about his decision and that he wanted to come to the Auburn game to find out. The Athletics Department said, "No," and hung up on him.

1 QB
Garcia is our man here. I don't see how it couldn't be him IMO, and if it is another person, chances are he won't be as good as him.
1 Big-Time DE
If I was betting, I'd say Carlos Dunlap. He's definately a good instate prospet and DE, and we definately have a nice shot with him. If not Carlos, then I'd probably say Cortez Myles... he says he favors Auburn, but chances are he won't get an offer, and we're his definate second choice. Next on down the line would be D'Angelo McCray, who I don't feel comfortable with since he's made two unofficial visits to Florida this year already, and I would bet he'll recommit to them when all is said and done. We'll know at the US Army All-American Bowl. Finally, there is also Cliff Matthews, and IMO we lost any shot we had with him when UGA beat us. It'd be a shocker for him to come here, and it'd definately be huge IMO.
2 Top WR's
I believe Lecorn is definately one of them, but as for the other one, there are several choices:
Mark Barnes is down between us and the Cardinals, and if he had to pick today, he'd probably take us. It isn't set in stone, however...
Jason Barnes liked his visit during the UGA game, and I have no doubt that we put up a better atmosphere than the UNC game he went to a week earlier. As for we're he'll end up though, I'm fairly clueless myself and I've been dying for him to at least say something. I guess we'll EVENTUALLY know in due time...
Deonte Thompson is definately a long shot, but he's definately the best pickup we could possibly get in our entire class, and he'd be a HUGE sign. If this is the WR you are talking about Neo, then I'm going to be absolutely thrilled!
Not that many people know that we have offered Thompson's WR teammate, Tarus McKinley. I've heard confliciting reports on whether he is Kenny's brother or not, but obviously if he is that would give us a major advantage. Regardless though, we are in his top 5, and he is a very good reciever.
Finally, there's Matt Clements. I'm not sure if you consider him a "top" reciever, but he does have blazing speed, and while he's calling it dead even between us and Pitt, I personally think we are leading for him. He'd definately be a nice pickup...

I disagree. I think it he had to pick today without a doubt he would take the Cardinals. They have given him more one-on-one attention that he really wants and USC coaches haven't done that according to him. We are losing a lot of in-state talent, but hey if they dont want to play for us well then good luck where ever else. I am still hoping that we Kyle Nunn(OL who is committed to VT), Myles, Dunlap or Matthews (one of those 3), and Barnes without a doubt. For some reason the RNE boys want to go to Michigan or Notre Dame. Something is up with that.

Highly Rated RB Watches USC
By Phil Kornblut
RB Caleb King (6-1 207) of Atlanta, one of the nation's top running back prospects, made an unofficial visit to USC for the Georgia game. King has interest in the Gamecocks because of the appeal of playing for Steve Spurrier and the success Spurrier has had with running backs of his style. King also has interest in Clemson because the Tigers' style of offense is very similar to what he played in at Parkland High in Lilburn before transferring to Atlanta Christian. King's coach, Jimmy Chupp, says King has not told him anything about his recruiting. "He has not narrowed his list down," Chubb said. "He hasn't shared with me the list. He's pretty much wide open." King has rushed for 500 yards in three games.

I don't think Jason Barnes is quite a "top" reciever. While I believe him to be very good and probably underrated, I just have a feeling that Neo was refering to someone else here.
As far as Dunlap, it could be him but who knows. Myles is another chance but I think he is favoring Auburn as of now and like you said I think the only way he doesn't go there is lack of an offer.

I guess you are right on that account. If we're talking about "top" recievers, then I guess that'd narrow it down to either Thompson or M. Barnes to go along with Lecorn. I'd definately say we gotta better shot with Barnes, but Thompson would be massive.
Jason Barnes went back to UNC last weekend for the Furman game and supposedly stayed all weekend with his former teammate and current Tar Heel WR Hakeem Nicks.
Before I comment, I'd like to thank you for the news on him. I've been itching to hear about him ever since he visited the UGA game. Unfornately, the news isn't good, but maybe UNC almost losing to Furman sent him a message of some sort hopefully. Besides, UNC already has a 5-star tall, physical WR in this year's recruiting class as well. I still got my hopes up, but it does indeed look good for the Tarholes...
And on one last note, you say his parents want him to come to USC. That's very big IMO. Parents, and espeically moms, obviously have a HUGE impact in some recruits decisions (just ask Gary Gray :thumbsdow ). Hopefully, they can play the ultimate role in getting him to come here. I think this guy is the real deal and he's underrated. I'd love to see him in Garnet!
Also, I figured it was Garica but for some reason I had the vibes that this was a surprise/mystery recruit and Garcia would probably be the farthest from that of any recruit we have to date.
I forgot to comment on this. If it isn't Garcia, then I have to admit... I have absolutely NO clue on who it could be. If you don't mind dropping a hint Neo... can you answer me this question: Is this guy on Garcia's level in terms of overall talent?

I'd love to see him in the Garnet and Black too, unless he didn't really want to be here, and then it just wouldn't be a good thing.

You do have a point with Jason Barnes. While it would be great to have him, I don't want any more Jonathan Hannah's (who, IMO, would be helping a lot this year since Jared Cook didn't pan out at TE like he was suppose to).
As for Mark Barnes... I hope you're right, and honestly I feel that if he leaves out of state too, there is something seriously wrong with Jay Frye if 3 out of 4 of RNE's Star players leave to go somewhere else. I'm not asking him to recruit for us, but if we lose Barnes it'd almost seem like he's pushing them out of state IMO.

Florida Contingent Visiting USC
By Phil Kornblut
USC will host six prospects for official visits this weekend when they play host to Florida Atlantic. Five of them will be from Florida. Among them will be OL Thomas Edenfield (6-6 295) of Jacksonville. Edenfield is considered one of the top prospects in Florida but he is sitting out this season with a torn ACL in his left knee suffered in the pre-season. He has had surgery and will make a full recovery. Edenfield made an unofficial visit to USC for the Georgia game so he's already comfortable with the program. "I went to the Georgia game and even though things didn't work out well, the fans were crazy," he said. "I just like it there. It just feels like home there. One of my buddies, Kerry Bonds, plays on the team." Edenfield has 26 offers. He said he will also set official visits with Auburn and Florida State. He is also looking at Louisville, LSU, Nebraska and Central Florida for possible visits. His offers also include Florida and Miami. He does not have a favoritge. Edenfield said he's talked with Gamecock recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. every day this week. He will make the visit by himself and will be on campus Saturday thru Monday. Edenfield said he's not likely to make an early commitment "unless something shocks me."
Also Visiting USC
Other scheduled official visits for USC this weekend are WR Dion Lecorn and DB Antonio Allen of Ocala, FL, DB Jamire Williams and DB Arkee Smith of Jacksonville, and DB Ryan Broyles of Norman, OK.

Allen Ready For First USC Visit
By Phil Kornblut
DB Antonio Allen (6-1 195) of Ocala, FL will make an official visit to USC this weekend and it will be his first ever trip to the campus. "I'm just going down there to see how the school is and if I like it," he said. "I'm going to go around and hang around with some of the players and meet with the coaches." USC has been Allen's favorite for some time and he said that is still the case. But he doesn't plan to commit this weekend as he wants to wait until after the season. His mother will make the visit with him. Allen said he will also set official visits to Louisville, Ole Miss and Central Florida. Allen talked with his Gamecock recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. Wednesday.

Barnes Going Back To USC Saturday
By Phil Kornblut
WR Mark Barnes (6-3 195) of Richland Northeast has not scheduled any more official visits since visiting Louisville last weekend, but he will make another trip to USC Saturday for the Gamecocks game against Florida Atlantic. Barnes says the Gamecocks continue showing him great interest. "Their interest is very, very hot," Barnes said. "When I'm there, I just feel like another player on their team." Barnes said Louisville is showing equal desire in landing him. "The two coaches banging heads are coach Joe Witt from Louisville and coach David Reaves from South Carolina," he said. Living so close to USC, Barnes is very much aware of the good and the bad about this season so far. "It doesn't affect me," he said. "I can go to any team and give them a chance to change their ways and be a better team." Barnes also had a front row seat for the drama surrounding his teammate Gary Gray and his commitment/decommitment with USC and commitment to Notre Dame. Barnes said he learned some things he can apply to his own recruiting. "Just wait until it's your turn," he said. "Don't rush anything just because people are pressuring you. Be sure, be real sure about about what you want in life before you react on something." Barnes said USC and Louisville remains tied with him. He is also looking at Florida State, Louisville and Notre Dame for official visits.

CHARACTER COUNTS!!!!!!

really his stats look better then korn but korns team plays harder teams...korn's team plays some of the best schools in this state and the country ....their is a reason korn is a 5 star and the best qb in this state...
Two of Matt's first games were against Big 16 schools Rock Hill and Gaffney,(Greenville is a 3A school) that isn't too shabby. I would venture to say that Korn has more talent around him than Lentz, based on watching both teams play.

yeah, there's a decent chance that Gaffney could beat Belles Glade as bad as Byrnes did. I think Greenville's competition thus far is at least as good, if not better than, slick Willy's boys.

It is really tough to tell sometimes. Alot of it is hype but I just feel that maybe the stats are misleading, otherwise why wouldn't people be making a bigger deal then they are?
Florida Safety Getting USC & Clemson Attention
DB Bernard Brinson (6-0 180) of Madison, FL missed most of his junior season with a broken collarbone, so he's just now getting a chance to show recruiters what he can do. But USC has seen enough to offer and Clemson also is very interested. Brinson was offered over the phone recently by Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier.

Well, if there is indeed a "mystery" QB other than Garcia that Neo is talking about, I may have found him:
http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=55453&Sport=1
Incase of some freak incident where we don't get Garcia, I think we'll pick him up. IMO, he's great excellent speed, but his arm isn't nearly as accurate as Garcia's, and he isn't as strong as Garcia himself when it comes to warding off tackles. Perhaps he could be used at another position such as WR with his blazing speed.

Majors Must Wait For Hamilton
By Phil Kornblut
WR Jakar Hamilton (6-2 182) of Strom Thurmond is certainly one of the state's most exciting players. He also plays running back and free safety. Major schools are keeping an eye on him but his coach Lee Sawyer says it might be a year or two before they can get to him. "He's a long shot academically and likely will have to go to prep school or junior college," Sawyer said. Hamilton was at the USC-Georgia game. The Gamecocks like him as a receiver and running back, Clemson sees him as a free safety. He's also getting interest from Marshall, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and Virginia.
Also At Strom Thurmond
Strom Thurmond DB Keon Cunningham (6-0 180) has offers from Vanderbilt, Marshall and Coastal Carolina according to his coach. Coaches from USC, Clemson, Georgia, Virginia Tech and Virginia have been by to check him out. And junior QB Ariums Hillary (6-2 200) will be a Rebel to watch next season. In three games at quarterback last season he passed for 518 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed for 200 yards. He played mostly receiver last season while his brother Co Co quarterbacked the team. Clemson and USC are showing some early interest.

Good find on the QB there 9 inch. He would definitly be a good backup plan. But I still feel Neo is talking about someone else. Not sure who it could be or even if there is someone, but you did some homework and I applaud the effort and the find.

you guys are so blind!!! Neo is OBVIOUSLY talking about mr. clausen pulling a GG, but in reverse fashion. He will decommit from ND and tell everyone we are his favorite. This will, in turn, make GG reconsider his reconsideration and choose us again.
