I'm not a member, but I've read it. There's nothing huge in there. It says that Cliff Matthews was set to announce for UGA today before he decided to rethink his plans. It also says our next commitments could be Byron McKnight, who will be the sleep of this class, and Arkee Smith, who is a 2-star safety out of Jacksonville, Florida. Smith has several offers from Conference USA, so many people were questioning why USC offered. Well, he was at our camp this summer, and the coaches absolutely loved what they saw and offered him on the spot.
This coaching staff is trying its best to set up a pipeline through Jacksonville, Florida. The area is always loaded, and this year is no different. From the First Coast area, USC is hoping to land Troy Pollard, Thomas Edenfield (long shot), D'Angelo McCray, Jamire Williams, and Arkee Smith. They love all of those guys.
Back to the article. One of the other things discussed is how the GamecockCentral staff feels that the running back position is the deepest position on the team.

I heard Florida may have taken away his offer. GH, is that true? Have you heard that?
At any rate, if we can get this kid on campus with this teammate, Antonio Allen, then we'll walk away with two commitments. Allen just declared us as his leader, and Lecorn is pretty much in the same boat.

Anyone know what the article on Rivals says about Hemingway? When is his decision coming? Man if we land these top notch receivers like I think we will, we'll be sitting good. Also, I hope Garcia is still coming to USC. I believe that he will, but Smelley seems to be stepping up to the plate. I hope this kid really does something. Garcia has a much better chance here at USC. If he goes to FL, they are sitting very deep at QB.

He is still considering 6 schools, but he says it's likely his choice will be Michigan, USC, Miami, or Florida. He wants to announce by next Friday (his first game). He's played the recruiting game beautifully so far. He hasn't tipped anyone. My guess is Michigan, but that's a real guess. This kid hasn't said anything to anyone.

It sounds like Byron McKnight has committed. There's not going to be any official word for a while because he's not going to be able to be contacted for some time, but that's what a source has said.
We also lead for Dunlap and McCray, and we are gaining ground with Matthews.
McKnight Commits To USC
By Phil Kornblut
DE Byron McKnight (6-4 215) of Laurinburg, NC has committed to USC joining his teammate, DE Travian Robertson, as part of the Gamecocks' 2007 class. McKnight said he contacted his recruiter Fred Chatham Thursday afternoon andn made his pledge. "It feels great," he said. "I went to their scrimmage the other day and I talked to the defensive linemen and they made me feel part of the team. And knowing that Tra had already committed, I wanted to be with him." USC is the only offer for McKnight at this point though he also has been receiving interest from NC State and Virginia Tech. McKnight had 55 tackles and 4 sacks last season and knows why the Gamecocks wanted him. "Rushing the passer," he said. "That's basically what they are looking for. They want me coming off the ball and getting to the quarterback." McKnight is expected to put on another 50 pounds or so to his frame to play at a college weight of round 260 pounds.

Hemingway could be a gamecock, if for nothing else just because of the postitive vibe that is around the state about our school this year. That vibe I believe is what is helping our in-state recruiting alot. Well that and Steve Spurrier.

If they come in for that game, then it will be at their own expense. USC is not bringing in any prospects for official visits during the weekend of the Georgia game. They both could announce soon. Florida has taken back their offer to Lecorn, and that could speed some things up.

Decision looming for Hemingway

Video: Hemingway with the grab
Talk about it in The Insiders Forum
Conway (S.C.) four-star wide receiver Junior Hemingway, Rivals.com's No. 6 overall prospect in the Palmetto State's class of 2007 and the No. 14 wideout in the country, is on the verge of making a decision.
Junior Hemingway plans to commit sometime before next Friday.
"My first game is next Friday, and my plan is still to commit before that game," the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Hemingway said. "I'm still considering all six of the finalists, but it looks like it could come down to Michigan, USC, Miami and Florida."
Hemingway, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, gave a quick rundown of his current thoughts on each of those schools.
"The fans really stand out to me with USC. I like everything about Michigan. Miami and Florida have two of the best programs in the country."
Hemingway will decide which school is best for him based on multiple factors.
"I'm going to go with the place that feels most like home to me. And the one where I get along with my teammates and the coaches."
With his decision on the horizon, Hemingway isn't having much contact with his recruiters from each school.
"They are all texting me pretty much every day, but I haven't really talked to any of them on the phone or anything. I'm going over everything with my family. It's going to be a family decision."
Hemingway says no team has the edge.
"I really don't know what I'm going to do yet. I couldn't pick one team if I had to today, but hopefully I'll know before my first game."

Saluda Star Appears USC Bound
By Phil Kornblut
USC is expected to receive a commitment early next month from 6-4 Trevor DeLoach of Saluda. According to his AAU coach Zack Norris, DeLoach strongly favors the Gamecocks over offers from UT Chattanooga, Jacksonville, College of Charleston, Winthrop, East Carolina and Penn State. DeLoach plans to make an official visit to USC September 9th and likely will make his commitment then. DeLoach averaged 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists per game last season. He's been all region three straight years and was all state last season as well as the region player of the year. He also plays receiver on the football team.

Bowman's 2nd half lifts Anson
Senior tailback runs for 3 TDs after halftime

MONROE - At halftime of Anson's game at Monroe on Friday night, Bearcats senior tailback Michael Bowman addressed teammates in the locker room: It's time to pick it up, he said.
They must have listened. With his offensive linemen opening up huge holes, Bowman broke off three long scoring runs in the third quarter. The Anson defense then clamped down on the Redhawks and the Bearcats rolled to a 42-10 victory in the season opener for both teams.
"It was good starting off the season with a win," Bowman said. "We've been having this hype all (pre)-season."
Anson has been touted as an early favorite to contend for a state title, but they didn't play like contenders in the first half. Monroe hung with Anson until late in the second quarter.
The Bearcats began a drive on their own 25 following a Monroe field goal, leading 9-3. Despite four penalties, Anson moved 75 yards in 13 plays. Bowman capped the march diving in from one yard out, extending the lead to 15-3 with 27 seconds left in the half.
At halftime Bowman spoke to teammates and told Anson coaches he needed to get the ball more in the second half.
They all listened. On the opening possession of the third quarter, Bowman swept around the right end, cut inside and raced 55 yards into the end zone. On Anson's next possession he outran the Monroe defense for a 76-yard touchdown run. Then, following a second straight Monroe three-and-out, Bowman finished a six-play, 92-yard drive by running 32 yards for a score.
When Bowman was done, Anson led 35-3 late in the third quarter.
"He's an explosive player," Anson coach Jody Grooms said of Bowman, who rushed for 243 yards on 15 carries. "He's dangerous in the open field."
Anson made few adjustments in the second half, Grooms said. The difference was that offensive players held their blocks, avoided the holding calls that cost them in the first half and increased their intensity. With the defense yielding eight yards of offense to Monroe in the first three quarters, Anson coasted.
Anson 9 6 20 7 -- 42
Monroe 0 3 0 7 -- 10

Yea...not sure exactly how the story goes, but Sanders took in Devine...a couple of weeks later, Devine steals one of Sanders' SUVs and drives home...been there since...living with a white couple. His adopted family says that he has a "bad rap" because of some trouble he got into when he was younger...seems he and some "friends" were going to "beat-up" a dude and the dude shot into the car, killing one of his friends...."good times"...oh yea, he is the father of 3 or 4 kids all from different girls...
He also lists UF as a favorite...I'm hearing that his family and coaches are trying to encourage him against choosing f$u or Miami because of the "getting into trouble" factors associated with those schools...but he doesn't have a committable offer from UF...I think Meyer and Co. are afraid to get involved with him...f$u or some an out-of-state school for sure...I doubt he'd even qualify academically to attend an SEC school.

Yet another example of more talent than common sense. If these kids love football so much, it seems to me that they would concentrate on that rather than getting in between the legs of someone's daughter. And to have that many kids with different girls???? He should've been cut off at the stem a long time ago. He'll end up at FAMU or another D1-AA or D2 school. Unless he changes drastically in the classroom...I've heard he has no chance of qualifying at a D-1 program.

Hemingway Ready To Announce
By Phil Kornblut
Conway WR Junior Hemingway (6-2 205) has scheduled a news conference at his school for Thursday at 3:00 PM according to his coach Chuck Jordan. Hemingway narrowed his decision to USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohoi State, Florida and Miami. "He has made up his mind," Jordan said. "But nobody knows but him. He hasn't even told his daddy. He hasn't told the schools either. I haven't pressed him with it."

Saunders Making Visit Plans
By Phil Kornblut
TE Wes Saunders (6-5 270) of Durham, NC has settled on three official visits and has dates for two. Saunders will visit Louisville September 16th and Penn State October 14th. He said he will also take an official to USC and is looking at the Georgia weekend for that. He is also looking at Maryland for a visit and said he's still considering Clemson. Saunders said he won't take official visits to North Carolina, NC State or Wake Forest because they're so close to his home. Saunders said he hears regularly from his USC and Clemson recruiters but feels Penn State is showing the strongest interest in him right now. Saunders said there is no favorite and he's wide open with the schools

One doctor said he may be out 10, but most think 6 weeks or so.
They said it was the equivalent of stretching a rubber band as far as you can and then letting it snap back in place. If it is a tear, then I believe it is a minor, partial tear because they said that surgery would not be necessary.

My comments are based on the olive branch that DS extended to him to help him get straight and he steals his truck and runs back home to his comfort zone where he can (more than likely) do what he wants. I would love to be wrong, but based on previous cases, it's unlikely. Also, based on the patterns of behavior of the likes of Derrick Watson (minor) and Maurice Clarett (major), it is very probable that he will get into something that will jeopardize his football future.

yes, a grade 2 sprain is in the middle. basically a grade 2 means there was likely some tearing and some significant stretching of the ligament but the body should be able to heal itself on this one. MCL injuries usually don't require surgery, and a grade 2 probably never would result in surgery. rest and rehab should be enough.
relating to what someone said earlier about a rubberband, the only problem is that each time it gets stretched out too far the ligament gets weakened some. this is the first time as far as we know, and it is a grade 2 so Q should be just fine as long as he doesn't rush back.

LB Melvin Ingram (6-2 227) of Rockingham, NC is focusing on two schools right now, USC and NC State, and right now the Wolfpack is running ahead of the Gamecocks. "I like their coaches and I can get on the field early there," Ingram said. Ingram also has offers from North Carolina, East Carolina and North Carolina A&T. Naples (Fla.) Barron Collier three-star wide receiver Matt Clements has seen his offer list swell to double digits, and is currently considering four of those teams.
Matt Clements plans to be a Gamecock.
"It's South Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Ohio State," the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Clements said. "Of those four, I'd say I'm most focused on South Carolina, Pittsburgh and Virginia."
While he hasn't made his commitment, Clements knows where he wants to go.
"South Carolina is where I want to end up," he said. "I just haven't been there as of yet, so I still have to see what everything is like as far as the city and the campus and everything. I was planning on visiting there on September 16th, but I just got a text from coach (Robert) Gillespie letting me know he wants me to come on the 23rd instead. I'm going to call him soon to talk it over and get everything set up."
Clements finds several aspects of the Gamecock program appealing.
"I watched them on TV a few times last year, like when they beat Florida. They spread the ball around to their receivers and run a great offense. I've built a good relationship with their coaches like coach Gillespie and coach Steve Spurrier Jr., and I just like how they run their program. I can't wait to get up there and see what their game day is like."
Clements, who runs the 40-yard dash in under 4.4 seconds and also has offers from schools such as Clemson, Iowa and West Virginia, also likes what Pittsburgh has to offer.
"I'm actually going to visit them next week. They run a balanced offense up there, and it's pretty similar to my high school offense. They've had some good wide receivers in the past, and their coaches think I could really make an impact there."
Virginia rounds out his top three.
"Coach (Bob) Diaco has really stressed education, and how Virginia has a national reputation as a top school. That's very important to me. They also know how to get the ball in their receivers' hands."
Clements says a September decision is likely.
"I'm probably going to make my decision after that South Carolina visit, whenever I end up taking it. That's my plan right now."

USC Still Frontrunner For Garcia
By Phil Kornblut
QB Stephen Garcia (6-3 215) of Tampa said Wednesday night USC is still out front for him in a tight battle with Florida. "I'm comfortable with them and the town," Garcia said of the Gamecocks. He is also giving Ole Miss and Oklahoma consideration at this point. Garcia said he probably will come to Columbia for the Georgia game, and he plans to watch the Gamecocks play at Florida and at Clemson. For the Clemson game, Garcia said he will be staying with Clemson quarterback commitment Willy Korn. Garcia said he has not decided when he will make a decision on a school but it could come during his season. He opened the campaign last Friday night by completing 13 of 18 passes for 274 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushing for 36 yards in a 38-20 victory.

DB Charlton Sinclair (6-0 190) of Jacksonville plans to attend several USC games this season to watch his brother Gerrod play for the Gamecocks. And he's hoping the Gamecocks will turn up their interest in him. "I would love to have a chance to play with my brother," Sinclair said. "I think they will offer. I just have to keep on holding out." Sinclair said he received a recent handwritten letter from recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. telling him USC plans to recruit him. Sinclair has offers from Ole Miss, North Carolina, West Virginia, South Florida, Auburn, Louisville, Southern Miss, NC State, Central Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Indiana and Illinois. He's also hearing from Georgia, Florida State, LSU, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia Tech. His top three right now are West Virginia, Auburn and South Florida. Last season Sinclair had 135 tackles with 14 sacks and 2 interceptions. He played strong safety and outside linebacker last season and will play free safety this season.

i understand you're making a general statement about recruiting as much as you're specifically referring to hemingway. that being said, the fact is the kid said he had a desire to play out of state. it would have been an impressive victory to keep him here. i wouldn't classify this one as 'letting one get away' or anything like that.
i'm sure i'll get a lot of crap for saying this...but the fact is i'm born and raised in SC from parents with zero loyalties to the state (one from NYC and one from Boston). My dad and I watched Boston College and ND when I was little, not Clemson or USC. So if I had been a high school star and ND came knocking on my door, it would have been about 2 seconds before I said yes.
I say this simply to illustrate the point that not everyone in this state has blood and soul connections to this state. Just from listening to this kid, I get the feeling Hemingway has that same affinity for Michigan that I had for ND as a kid. The fact that he had USC in his final 3 shows that he gave the Cocks a legitimate chance to sway him, and they were somewhat successful. But the simple fact is that the border will never be closed.
Before I get banned for saying I like ND, I must make it clear that I'm a proud member of the class of '04 at USC and a future graduate of the USC med school. I still root for ND and BC, but if SC were to play them I'd love every second of us destroying them. The Cocks have been number 1 in my heart for 7 years or so and they always will be.

Michigan rarely got talent from the state, but other big names have always been able to come in here and take the top talent from Carolina and Clemson. For example, look at the Boulwares, Leon Hart, Greg Jones, etc. Florida State has been especially successful at taking kids from South Carolina.
You make a great point about winning consistently. Spurrier is trying to take over a job where winning has been scarce. He is also taking over a job where not many kids in the state dream of attending the state's flagship institution. Winning is going to do wonders for recruiting in this state. After many winning seasons in the upstate and with Spurrier taking over here, both Clemson and Carolina have been able to do a quality job of recruiting here. If you look at the top guys in this state (Korn, Gray, Richardson, Maddox, Barnes, Cooper, etc.), then you'll see only one kid who has always been 100% for either Carolina or Clemson (Korn).
The bottom line is that many kids in this state don't have the dream to stay in-state, much like I had no desire to stay in-state. A little winning changes everything. The borders will never be closed, regardless of how successful Carolina and Clemson may be. Heck, look at how successful Florida, FSU, and Miami have been in the past, and neither school is going to land the #2 (could be #1 when all is said and done) QB in the state. Top talent is always going to flock elsewhere, but it's important to keep the majority of the top talent within the state's borders, which is what Florida, FSU, and Miami are able to do.
It's amazing what a little winning has done for this class, and what a lot of winning is going to do for future classes.

Great post WB...I have to admit, I was a little "shocked" to see a SC native WR choose Meechagan over Spurs pass-happy offense...those guys must've really blown his socks off last year when he visited...but I think y'all are right...his mind was made up long ago.
That's the funny thing about the state of Florida...we have so many big name HS players...even though there's 3 big universities here, we still can't keep all of the top talent instate...there's not enough room and some guys just want to get away...see QB Brantley.

Myles Plans Decision Friday
By Phil Kornblut
LB Cortez Myles (6-3 250) of Madison, MS said Thursday night he plans to have a decision on a commitment Friday afternoon. Myles said his decision is down to USC, Auburn and LSU. "They are all real close," he said. Myles does not plan to have a news conference. He said he would talk with his coach Friday afternoon and then release information after that

I think it's really hard to judge Inman. Coach Strickland may be in Gaffney now, but Batesburg-Leesville still runs the same offense. They just don't throw much. I think people knew Sidney Rice was good, but i really don't think most people had a clue just how good.

If he thinks that his chances are better at ND, then let him go! I don't think that SOS is going to be on his knees begging for him to stay committed to us. He is not the saving grace of our secondary. Let him go on to ND, ride the bench for his first year, rather than play like our frosh will do and he can lick his wounded pride for his first twelve collegiate games.
This is one reason why I don't like early commits. A staff begins to think of ways to get them into the lineup and a fan base gets all up in arms and excited. When they sign their name, then get excited.
So if GG wants to his South Bend, grab a wheelbarrow and haul ass

Munnerlyn hasnt been cleared yet but he was given a waiver that will alow him to practive for a few days until they get his situation taken care of. Gray would be a HUGE pick up for us but if he doesnt come our way im sure we will get along with out him. when was the last time we signed a big name DB out of high school that actually amounted to something. JJ, Ko and Bennett have been our most recent DB's that actually turned out ok, were all 2-3 star guys. Munnerlyn and Stewart seem to be on the same path as these guys, again only 2-3 star guys. i would love to have Gray because he is very good but we will be alright without him.

What is taking the clearing house so long? How does they clearinghouse system work? Is it a day to day thing with people hired to process the work? Is it something done by committee which meets every week or month? It seems to be poorly organized since we are 4 DAYS AWAY FROM KICKOFF! It looks like the paper shufflers think that their job is more important than the game.

I disagree with that also. The top 5-10 picks in every draft for the NFL have come from the players who where the top players coming out of high school. A lot of the high prized recruits careers are over after college, but a lot of theirs arent. Agreee that Munnerlyn will be great for us and also that Gray is not going to make or break our class. But all I'm saying is that if he get him this would be huge because he is a highly prized recurit and because this guy is in our backyard. He played in the SC is whole life and it would suck if we lose him. We have to keep instate guys instate, thats all I'm saying.

I think Gray was with that group of top recruits who all decided to try to go to the same school and have a major impact as a class. Claussen was still deciding when Gray made his comittment to USC, when Claussen chose ND and said no to us, Gray started having second thoughts. I forget everyone that was in that group, but for sure Gray and Claussen were 2 of 'em. Whatever. But Gray is a real talent and could've gone anywhere.

Well there's nothing like being spurned by a recruit, but it's not the first time and it won't be the last. If he chooses ND, so be it. With the success that USC's DB/CB/SS have had, we'll get some guys that want to be here and make an impact for us.

If we get him... wonderful. He's a hell of a CB and would be almost a lock to keep our tradition of putting CBs in the NFL going. But if he doesn't, then oh well. I think we'll end up getting Auguste, another good CB, and Munnerlyn is turning out to be a sleeper so far.
However, if Gray does go to South Bend, he shouldn't ever expect a warm reception if he comes back home. After all of this BS about him being 100% commited and being another recruiter for us and then he turns around and says he favors ND? I don't give a damn about what Mama wants or anything... if he goes to South Bend, he better stay there... for good.

Smith Delays Making Pledge
By Phil Kornblut
DB Arkee Smith (6-2 185) of Jacksonville remains on track to make a commitment to USC, but after talking with his family over the weekend, he has decided to delay making the commitment for a couple of weeks. "They told me to wait a little bit, but that's still my best option." Smith said he will be in Columbia for the Georgia game and probably would commit on that unofficial visit.
Irish To The Front For Gray
Notre Dame is now the leader for DB Gary Gray (5-10 165) of Richland Northeast. Gray had been favoring USC but when interviewed Saturday on ESPN during the Byrnes-Glades Central game, Gray said the Irish were his favorite by a 60-40 split. Gray confirmed his feelings Sunday to his coach Jay Frye. "He's just said he's been thinking about it,"
USC Remains Interested In Florida Receiver
WR Trey Herndon (6-0 175) of Jacksonville says he hears regularly from USC recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. through the mail. "I'm hoping to get an offer," he said. Heyward made an unofficial visit to USC earlier in the summer, and he was at Clemson for the Nike Camp. Heyward missed half his junior season after transferring from another school and had 48 tackles. As a sophomore he had 103 tackles. Brimfield remains committed to the Tar Heels according to his coach Jermaine Derricott, but USC has been showing some interest. He talked with a Gamecock recruiter in July while at USC for a high school media day. Brimfield had 72 tackles and 10.5 sacks last season. Derricott says his WR David Jenkins (6-0 185) also is one to watch this season. He attended North Carolina's camp and the Tar Heels plan to scout him. He's also getting interest from SC State. It is just the way it is. I agree, a person's word should be good for something, but until there is ink on the dotted line, then we (nor any other school) has anybody locked up.
It is a tough position these kids are being put in. They are 16, 17 years old and every 5 seconds their cell phones are ringing with new text messages from 30 to 50 year old coaches who have nothing better to do during the off season. They wine and dine them like they are the only ones on the planet, and it is easy to impress these kids with words, facilities, and whatever. Just as soon as a kid thinks he knows where he wants to be then along comes another coach with another story. We should not fault a kid for being fickle. There is just too much pressure.
It is a shame that they can't just go out and play a game for fun. What kid does play just for fun anymore? Parents have them on traveling teams when they are 3 years old. Some of the guys who have the biggest potential do not even play ball anymore because they burned out early or some high school coach with an ego screwed them over.
Don't get me wrong. I love sports, especially college sports. However, some things are out of hand and other things are just insane.

True, but recruiting, thus far, has seemed "bi-polar" of short. We started off with great momentum, and now it's essientially dropped off some with us losing out on some people and of course the GG situation. It's frustrating, but when is recruiting not frustrating?

Great post. The sad part is, in order to get these top athletes and such, we have to coddle them into playing football for our university. If not, then we lose out on the top talent and can't roll with the big dogs. Its something that every top program has to do... and sadly, I really don't believe there are any top athletes left that would just come and play for the University of South Carolina because they love the program.

As a 17 year old planning for college, I can tell you how easy it is to change favorites or majors every 5 minutes. Should I do business...premed....marketing? Should I go to USC, or Auburn...or somewhere far away. I can't even imagine what it would be like getting text messaged every three seconds from a different coach. They'll eventually know where they want to go, especially after they start seeing us win some ball games. The ole ball coach will show them SC is a great place to be...not just football wise.

But he said Wednesday afternoon he will take an official visit to USC on a date to be determined. "I really like their coaching staff and Steve Spurrier," McCullough said. He has scheduled an official visit to Alabama for November 18th. He also has an offer from Clemson. "I don't know much about them," he said. "I know they have a good program." He's not sure if he'll set a visit with the Tigers. McCullough also has offers from Louisville and Southern Miss. Coffeeville (Miss.) Three-star running back Lee Chambers is the nation's No. 8 all-purpose back, and the 6-foot, 190-pound star made a commitment to the in-state Mississippi State Bulldogs earlier this summer. However, the recruiting process may not quite be over for him.
"I'm still committed to Mississippi State, but I'm still thinking about visiting South Carolina and Miami," Chambers said. "I don't have anything set up with any of those schools yet as far as visit dates yet, but I may take those trips."
Chambers, who runs the 40-yard dash in under 4.4 seconds, will be in Starkville a week from today to watch the Gamecocks take on Mississippi State.
"I'm definitely going to that game," he said. "I'm going to be very interested to see how the two teams look."
Chambers finds multiple aspects of the South Carolina program appealing.
"I feel like Steve Spurrier is an offensive mastermind, and he could make me one of the top backs in college football if I went there. Then that would seal me a spot in the NFL. I also still have a good relationship with coach (Robert) Gillespie, and he would be my position coach if I went there. We still text each other a good bit."
Miami also remains in the back of Chambers' mind.
"Miami is a big-time football program, and they're always in the top twenty. They just have a great team basically every year, so you have to take them seriously."
Assuming Chambers decides to take multiple official visits, he will weigh several factors in determining who to sign with.
"I really want to know how the players are treated by the coaches at each place. I just want to know I will be treated well at whichever school I end up at. I also want to see how I interact with my teammates, and what kind of leadership they have on the team. The last thing will be the atmosphere, and whether I feel at home there."
Chambers clarified where his Mississippi State commitment stands.
"I'm still committed, but I'm thinking about visiting those other schools."

Yes, it would be ignorant for me to think we couldn't get talent from Bama. I never said we couldn't. Far from it, I said it would be really hard to get talent from that area because of the number of D1 schools in that smaller state. As a general rule, ie not always our 2006 recruiting class being an example, most of the best Alabama talent stays in state.

According to what I was just told, Garcia is in fact a *silent* commitment and he plans on announcing sometime next month.

"Garcia to South Carolina" has to be the worst kept secret this recruiting season. Much like "Tebow to UF" last season.

I don't know, but I will say one thing. You will be surprised on NSD.
Those of you that know me and my sources that got me to start this USC Recruiting Thread, take that as a HINT!

Georgia Receiver Planning USC Visit
By Phil Kornblut
USC is keeping in touch with WR Deshon Lawrence (6-0 170) of Atlanta. Lawrence said he talked to Gamecock recruiter Ron Cooper about a month ago. "He said he's still interested but wants to watch me this season," Lawrence said. Lawrence said he will make an unofficial visit to USC for the Georgia game. He has an offer from Western Michigan and is also hearing from Mississippi State, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Indiana and Tulane.

Neo, I am glad to see you have begun to tap into your resources again. Some people here are new and like me when I first came here need to see that your sources are in fact good. Now I just have to sit and wait to see what the big surprise is.
BTW, it is nice to know for certain that he is a silent commit. There has been lots of speculation but no confirmation. Thanks.

INDEPENDENCE 55, OLYMPIC 14
Patriots steamroll Olympic for No. 95
QB McFadden throws for 295 yards for Independence
RICHARD HORD
Special Correspondent
Independence was not as perfect as it could have been Friday night, but it was good enough to explode for 34 unanswered points and break open a 21-14 game against Olympic for a 55-14 win.
The win puts the Patriots at 3-0 on the season and their winning streak at 95 games.
"We are getting better," said Patriots coach Tommy Knotts. "We are hitting our stride. We made some mistakes, but we were physical enough to wear Olympic down."
With the scored tied at 7, the Patriots wasted little time taking the lead, as Darryl McFadden hit Jason Barnes from 43 yards out. McFadden found Barnes on the exact same play in the next possession, this time on a 37-yard bomb, and it looked like the rout was on.
I -- Jason Barnes 43 pass from Darryl McFadden (Ward kick)
I -- Barnes 37 pass from McFadden (Ward kick)
I -- Barnes 34 pass from McFadden (Ward kick)

HMMMMM....2 guys come to mind....one, Lecorn doesn't have a committable offer from UF....the other recruit you could be "speaking of" is DLO...and him not signing at UF is a forgone conclusion. However, I doubt very seriously he's a Cock silent...I have some very reliable "insider" info. on this guy...no one really knows what the deal is with him. Besides DLO, well...I don't know who else you could be referring to...I guess ya got me. I know you guys don't have a chance at swaying any of our 15 committments...I'll admit, the players at the top of UF's position board are not considering USCE...I guess we'll see on NSD...but I must tell you...UF always hosts all the "big names" during the last game of the season at the Swamp...guess who that is this season? :up_to_som

I hope he waits to visit both UNC and USC before he makes a decision. I heard he may go ahead and commit to UNC soon.

Meh, that sucks... I personally believe he deserves an even higher ranking that he's getting. I know their are probably personal matters involved such as friends, but why the hell would somebody want to play for Bunting over Spurrier?! Spurrier's offense clearly puts major emphasis on WRs, and he could be a star. Let's hope he makes an unofficial this Saturday. The Cockpit should be rocking and it should be a great game!

Ok, I hate to be so blunt with this, but honestly I can say this now:
Barnes would be a fool to go to North Carolina. Anyone happen to catch this score?
Rutgers 21, UNC 16
I think that says enough right there and is solid proof that UNC is heading nowhere anytime soon. Don't waste your phenominal potential by playing for a program clearly heading into the gutter!

u could say he would be a fool...but some could say the same thing that our players would be a fool to come here...players like hall who had offers from tenn, unc and others and he choice us....i know people were like whats wrong with him why south carolina when he could of gone to a winner and a place with tradition like tenn or some where else...i respect a player who wants to stay home and try to turn things around...also from what i have read about his mom i dont see why he wont stay home....i would love to have him,but if he goes to unc i will understand and will be happy for him...

Even though I'm just a sophomore in Highschool and am injured so I can't play football, (hopefully coming back this coming week, or next), I know I'm going to South Carolina. Academic or Sports Scholarships are welcome, but hell, I'll pay full tuition if I have to. If you're from North Carolina, around Piedmont region or whatever, you MIGHT have heard of a school called Pinecrest. That's where I go, and we suck at football, but we have great talent, and got new coaches last year, so yall fellow North Carolinians, and maybe South Carolinians expect to hear Pinecrest's name in the coming years.
Sorry I trailed off, but, eh, Anything to let the world know of a team that's rising out of the ashes.

Matthews To See Gamecocks Saturday
By Phil Kornblut
On Recruiting
Published: September 3, 2006
USC will ge the chance to impress major target DE Cliff Matthews Saturday when he makes an unofficial visit for the Georgia game. Matthews was in Athens this past Saturday and was given the royal treatment by the Bulldog coaches and staff. "When I first arrived I met with coach Richt in his office," Matthews said. "He talked to me about having a good academic year and a good year on and off the field. We went to the Dog Walk. That was real nice. I liked that. After that, we walked on the field and I met with coach (Rodney) Gardner. And I met with the A.D. for about ten minutes." Matthews maintains he has no favorite among his four finalists...USC, Clemson, Georgia and North Carolina but this appears to be shaping up as a USC-Georgia battle. He has not decided on when he'll take his official visits. Matthews had another big game last Friday in a win over Darlington recording 13 tackles with 6 sacks and one pass reception for 35 yards.

Race Tightens For Clements
By Phil Kornblut
USC had been sitting on a comfortable lead for WR Matt Clements (6-1 185) of Naples, FL before he made an official visit to Pittsburgh over the weekend. But after spending the weekend with the Panthers, Clements says the Gamecocks' lead is gone, at least for now. "The players, the coaches and the facilities, I liked them a lot," Clements said. "I got to talk one on one with coach Wannstadt and got the chance to meet the whole staff." Clements will make his official visit to USC September 16th and that visit will be crucial in his decision making process. "I'm going to wait and see how everything goes," Cl
