Mike Farrell- National Recruiting Analyst; was reporting on RIVALS radio (4/13/06 ) that is pretty much; a done deal! JIMMY CLAUSEN; will be headed to Notre Dame!
Will be a BIG surprise, If Clausen, signed to play with another school.

They can't possibly know for certain. I am not holding out or anything but I think he is one that will come down to the wire, if for nothing else then just to have fun with being such an unknown and such a desire.

But if Clausen was committed to ND and really wanted to do some recruiting for them, then he would make it public. That's what I don't understand.

04-19-2006, 07:13 AM
Clausen will be great, but alot of what I've read makes me believe Clausen is all about Clausen. He really could care less about making anything public until it suits his plans. No doubt, in his mind, he'll win the NC his first year no matter who is on the team. No offense meant to him, he is going to be a special player, in large part due to his incredible confidence. I'd like to see some of our QB's have that kind of swagger.
He'll go to ND, IMO 'cause that's where he'll get the most attention and most respect for breaking school records. Breaking records at a school that has an all time losing record simply doesn't carry the same weight. Winning a NC at that same school is probably one of the reasons we were in the running at all. I'm not sure if being coached by a great QB coach Spurs is enough, considering some people question whether Spurs still has it in him. Advantage: ND

RB Marc Tyler (6-0 220) of Westlake Village, CA and his teammates QB Jimmy Clausen and LB Casey Matthews will visit Notre Dame starting this Thursday. The three will stay through the weekend and take in the Fighting Irish spring game. Tyler has added recent offers from Colorado and Virginia. He said he continues to receive handwritten letters from USC running backs coach Robert Gillespie. Tyler said his top six from last month remain unchanged...USC, Southern Cal, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Michigan and UCLA in no particular order. Tyler also has an offer from Clemson but said he hasn't heard much fromt he Tigers lately.

We'll find out this weekend how true this story is. I do think that ND is the lead for all of these kids, but who knows other than them. It would be nice to get them. Also if I'm right didn't a another story have another QB at the top the South Carolina's board? Does anyone remember that?

Omaha is right, he has already visited here once unoffically. Notre Dame is a big name school so it could be a big for him. But SC has Gary Grey, soon Mark Barnes, and Quinten Richardson whom he said he wanted to be on the same team with, and all of them are at SC not ND or spread around.

I'll be shocked, too. However, some things just aren't adding up in my mind. He has talked about being a recruiter for his school once he commits. If he is so sold on ND, then why hasn't he made it verbal so every recruit in the country can know about it? In my book, I've got him written as ND bound, but I'm not giving it up until the kid announces in October.
GamecockDieHard
04-20-2006, 06:41 AM
Well, look at it this way; at least by Clausen waiting to announce his decision, other top recruits may still be looking at SC as a possibility. If/when Clausen announces ND, I think we'll lose the interest of some of these kids that are still contemplating SC. The longer he waits, the longer we have to sell them on our program.

WR Dontrelle Inman (6-3 185) of Batesburg-Leesville appears just about ready to make a commitment. Inman said Tuesday night he plans to announce his decision May 5th. Right now he favors USC over Auburn, Georgia and Clemson, in that order. "They pass the ball like 90 percent of the time," Inman said of the Gamecocks. "And a lot of spots are about to be open after this year. I'm friends with (USC commitments) Gary Gray and Quintin Richardson, so I've already got someone to room with if I decide to go there." Inman said Clemson offered about two weeks ago and was the last school to offer. He has also drawn interest from Georgia and North Carolina. Last season Inman caught 31 passes for 400 yards and 4 touchdowns. And as a safety he had 69 tackles with 5 interceptions.

LB Brandon Maye (6-3 225) of Mobile, AL talked with USC recruiter Ron Cooper Wednesday and was told the Gamecocks will scout him during spring practice. Maye has also been hearing from NC State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, LSU and Boston College. He's made unofficial visits to Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss and will go to Florida this weekend. He will attend the Scout.com camp at Alabama April 29th and the Nike camp at Clemson May 22nd. Maye said he does not have a favorite. Playing mostly as a backup last season, Maye had 45 tackles with 3 caused fumbles and 2 sacks.

DE Sidell Corley (6-4 250) of Mobile, AL has 47 offers so far, but Clemson and USC are not in that group yet. That will change according to Corley's father. Clemson defensive coordinator Vic Koenning told the Corley's he plans to come down to Mobile May 1st to see them in person and will offer at that time. And USC recruiter Ron Cooper also has told them he will be coming in personally to offer. According to Corley's father, the top schools on their list among those which have offered are Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Miami, Oklahoma, Penn State and Syracuse. This week they have visited Auburn, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Alabama. They are going to Florida State tomorrow and to Florida State. Corley will also take trips to Syracuse, Oregon, Michigan State and possibly Maryland. Corley can also play middle linebacker and tight end. Last season he had 90 tackles with 7 sacks and 23 tackles for loss.

LB Brian Saunders (6-0 210) of Greenacres, FL is getting very strong interest from USC and is close to an offer from the Gamecocks according to Leonard High assistant coach Allen Williams. Saunders also is getting interest from Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee. Williams said Sunders is very interested in USC at this point. Saunders played middle linebacker last season but will play outside this season. "He flies to the football," Williams said. "He takes good read steps and good drop steps in coverage. He's a very physical player." Saunders led his team last season with 117 tackles.

Tennessee is the latest major program to inform LB Scotty Cooper (6-1 200) of Lake City of an offer. "They told me today they were sending me an offer in writing," Coope said Thursday night. He also has offers from USC, Clemson, NC State, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan and West Virginia. Cooper said he does not have a leader and does not have favorites. Cooper said he talked on the phone Wednesday with USC recruiter David Reaves, Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden and Tiger assistants Dabo Swinney and David Blackwell and West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez. Cooper said the coaches will text him and he will call them back. He pointed out that along with Bowden's number, he has the cell number for every Clemson defensive coach.

QB Stephen Garcia (6-3 215) of Tampa made an unofficial visit to Florida for the Gators' spring game Saturday, and as a result, the Gators have moved way up the charts with him. "I had a little meeting with the coaches and we just talked some football and about recruiting and stuff," Garcia said. "Coach Meyer, he's an intense guy, I'll tell you that. Florida is making a serious run. I'd say Florida and South Carolina are my top two." Garcia has also visited USC, Alabama and Ole Miss and plans to make trips to Ohio State and Louisville. Garcia said several coaches are expected to come by his school this week including Mike Shula of Alabama, Urban Meyer of Florida, and some coaches from Florida State. He said he expects USC head coach Steve Spurrier and assistant David Reaves to visit for his spring game May 18th.

Hey, settle down guys. We are still in the running for this guy and for a lot of other top prospects. 2007 is a long way off. All kinds of things can happen before then. Players that we great, get better, and some that are great lose ground. We will be fine, I have a feeling this class will be one of our best, but we can't recruit but about 25 guys out of the thousands of players in the country.

Thats how I see it too. There are other positions that we are making ground in that we need more depth in anyway. We're only gonna sign 1-2 QB's this year and Im sure the ones we do sign will be great. Plus we have Mitchell,Thompson is looking good, Beecher adds some depth, and we havent even seen Smelley yet(who called all of his own plays for the past 2 years and went undefeated in that time). We are addressing our needs well so far and Im very confidant that we'll bring in a great QB too.

I am not worrying about the recruiting class as a whole, I am more interested in why we can't get a top flight QB, this is Spurrier we're talking about. And I think in order for us to go to the next level we need an amazing QB. Smelley could be it but I have heard that he played for a 1A high school and that makes me wonder about how good he really is.

Smelley played for a private school that played in a public league. He put up those numbers with a bunch of small white boys at wide receiver. Smelley has remarkable upside, and I'd say that whether he signed with us or not.
This Clausen thing is a blessing for our coaching staff. We have months and months to court Garcia now. Don't worry. We're gonna get a top flight QB in this class.

Did that hit a little too close to home? You must have some short, white boys who came from your lineage. There is probably a baldness gene in there somewhere, too.

I did raise a couple of short and slow white boys in my house. And yes, there is a baldness gene, too.
However, I am not fond of general prejudicial statements about people of any color or gender. Color and gender have very little to do with capability and potential. Attitudes of society create artificial boundaries that limit the development of potential.
We would live in a much better world if everyone was set free to live up to their potential as opposed to falsely making others feel like they can't compete.

Dr. Pepper
04-26-2006, 09:23 PM
I have serious problems with what you are saying pc. Back in the 50's, noone thought that black players could compete until a courageous coach in Texas proved everybody wrong. People today still think that blacks can't compete in business. This is because of stereotypes (prejudice) and not reality. If communities would get as excited about what blacks could do in business, education, politics, etc. as they did about how they play ball, then tremendous transformation would take place.
Whites can play ball, but for some reason we believe the stereotype the "white men can't jump." Part of the reason for the lack of white numbers playing professional sports these days is that when they were kids, their daddy's pulled them out of the public schools and sent them to smaller private schools without large numbers of other athletes to compete with. Some private schoolers make it big just because they are natural athletes or they spend the summers playing AAU or in other leagues with strong athletes that challenge them to become better. (By the way, I went to private school. In the 70's, almost every white kid in the south did.)
Your way of thinking pc is the reason the Nazi's took over Germany in the 1930's and 1940's. You are on very dangerous ground. Unfortunately, a lot of people think the way you do. You might want to read the book "Night" by Elie Wiesel. It shows the serious consequences of making stereotypes, because "most of them are true."
The truth is, we are all God's children. He sees no color, and everytime you or I try to put someone in a box because of their color, gender, or religion, God will help them find a way out of the box.

I agree with you 100%. but i do believe African Americans are naturally better athletes than White Americans. that doesnt mean that White kids cant be great athletes because they can. like i said this is my belief from my personal experiences, not because of the White man cant jump stereo type. Stereo types get alot of people in trouble and it keeps them from learning about and meeting different types of people.

I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying...but also, think about this...when I was growing up, 20 years ago, we rode our bikes to school daily, played outdoors..running...playing tag..hide-n-go-seek...our mother's called us in at "dark" to come in and eat a home-cooked meal...I was very athletic....6'2" 195lb senior in HS...won a State Champ. in football and basketball...could dunk a ball with two hands standing right under the goal....now-a-days...and I use my very younger brother as an example, these kids have the internet, PS2...videos, IPods, CDs, DVDs...the mall! Due to poor economical conditions, most of the kids that don't have these luxuries are black...they still ride their bikes to school, play in the yard, run around while their white counterparts are inside, playing Madden, sippin' a soft-dring, eatin' chips...
For example, my Dad and I were watching my little bro's pee-wee football game...the little black kids were out-running, out-hitting the little white kids, most of which were over-weight....my Dad, who is a Christian and non-predjudice man, said, "Hunter, wonder why those little black boys are so fast..." I thought about it and said, "Probably because they aren't trying to conquer the 5th level of Grand Theft Auto."

And I can say that we AWPST's (that's Americans With Permanent SunTans, or Blacks, for the uninformed) have speed in our genes. We have learned to get away from white people after years of trying to escape from slave masters. Didn't you ever wonder why the coined the term "breakaway speed?" If you want to know the truth, call up Fisher DeBerry, he'll tell you that we're bred big-boned, with big powerful thighs and upper body strength to pick all that damn cotton and well endowed to keep Mister's wife happy while he's at his monthly KKK meeting...

Oh yeah, recruiting. I'm glad we didn't get Clausen, but even though we have SOS, recruits looking long term have seen what Weis has done at the next level and that is where SOS is at a disadvantage. Anyway, we'll get Garcia. I hope that JC plays against UTK and they cut their teeth on his tender, sweet arse!

Sorry about my ranting on a recruiting thread, but it is too easy to be silent when injustice is being expounded. If we are to really make a difference in the world, we must take the risk to speak up at every opportunity. I am in total agreement with Spurred and GH (what!?!).
If we are going to make this a better world, we must take the time to meet and to listen to others who are not like us. It is the only way we can avoid war, poverty, law suits, and mysteriously disappearing pets.

This is true...in one of my anatomy classes, the instructor actually read a study that proved...on average, black people have a higher muscle mass index than do whites...and the bones were more dense...skull included..FWIW.
Jeff Samarjza (sp is wrong), Kevin Curtis, Matt Jones, Drew Bennett, Mike Hass, Brandon Stokley, Kevin Kolb, Alex Smith, (and a ton of athletic TE's) might have something to say about black people being better athletes (in football). I think there was a time (late 70s until late 90s) where black athletes dominated football. But a generation of white kids (born in the late 70's on, i.e. my generation) realized they had to work that much harder on the football field just to have a shot and it's just now paying dividends at the college and pro levels, I think what we'll see in 10 years is a true equality at the pro and college level racially speaking.....

First off, I made a comment not intending to be racist. In fact I was saying ALL stereotypes have some background to them, including the white, asian, hispanic, and purple people eaters. How come this always has to be black and white. Because America makes it that way. After the big E-proclimation slaves were freed but didn't have full freedoms until late into 60s and 70s. Now though in an effort to reach "equality" they have actually made it unequal. Read this to see some of
the "EQUAL" things I am talking about.
"You call me "Cracker", "Honkey", "Whitey" and you think it's OK.
But when I call you, nigger, Towelhead, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Gook, or Chink you call me a racist.
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live
You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Yom Hashoah
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi
You have the NAACP.
You have BET.
If we had WET(white entertainment television) we'd be racists.
If we had a White Pride Day you would call us racists.
If we had white history month, we'd be racists.
If we had an organization for only whites to "advance" our lives, we'd be racists.
If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships, you know we'd be racists.
In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.
Did you know that some high school students decided to make a club for only the white students because the other ethnicities had them... they all got sent to court for being rasist but the african-american, latino, and asia clubs were not even questioned.
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.
I am white.
I am proud.
But, you call me a racist
Why is it that only whites can be racists?"
Sorry, I was being made out to be a racist, neonazi, or Grand Dragon all for me stating my opinions and I think that is very sad. And shows how truly unequal it is.
I'm proud to be white as well. I had to work twice as hard on the football field just for equal consideration for PT @ WR b/c I was white (circa late 1990's), my brother had the same problem a few years later (and he's taller at 6'2/6'3). I'm glad white skill athletes are on the comeback, just so we have equal footing in sports.....

To borrow from Scunyon "Sarcasm, On":
Dude, is SOS recruiting a racist? WTF is all this doing on the board, cuz this white honky doesn't mind ya'll arguing ( and for the record I tried to start a NSWE - national society of white engineers while I was in college cuz I have what some would call a fun and good natured but politically incorrect sense of humor, but couldn't get any faculty behind the idea even through there was a NSBE) but this stuff should seriously be moved to the water fountain or taken outside so we can all air out our differences while using all the racial slurs we can think of and beating the crap out of each other because some of us don't have a tan and because some of us don't have tan lines.
Now can someone please just copy in something from palmetto sports or rivals or the state ( even though I am sure it would be crap) so that we can get this thing re-focused and back on track. This horse is DEAD, DECAPITATED, DISMEMBERED, and had a firecracker shoved up its @$$.

First of all, there is nothing happening in football recruiting.
Second of all, pc is a major racist.
Third, I am white and proud of it.
Fourth, we are all equal in God's eyes. It is we human who have messed things up.
Fifth, when football season starts, I will yell for my team regardless of color.

And I agree, NOTHING is happening in recruiting so we are just passing the time.

If you want to know what's wrong with us permanently tanned Americans, read up on the letter from Willie Lynch to slave owners back in the day. Read his instructions and sit back with an open mind and see if it doesn't ring true to this day.
Now I'm with USCGrifter, let's start a thread in the water fountain and I'll shed some light on some things from the "dark side" of life.

Some throw stones. Some sit idly by an watch. I hope that I am neither.
pc, I do not know you, so I apologize for calling you a major racist. I am just pointing out that your comments were racist. None of us are perfect, and I am sure that as a white man from the south, I harbor racist attitudes that come out as well. I might not realize it at the time, but my words and actions can certainly be misunderstood by someone whose life experience is filled with violence, oppression, poverty, etc.
As a rule, my generation of white people are angry. The world has changed so much for us because until the 1960's, we had a life of privilege - especially in the south. Civil Rights, Feminism, and other movements have forced us to make changes that we did not want to make, but had to make. White people want to carry these discussions to the water cooler or to cigar smoke filled rooms, but the truth is, we can't do that. This is so much a part of our social fabric, that it is always before us in some form or fashion.
When I was a teenager, I had a Confederate Flag hanging in my bedroom. It is an honorable flag. A lot of good people died under that flag for reasons other than slavery and oppression. However, it is not the blacks who have made it a symbol of racism and oppression. Riding through the back roads of the South, we see that flag flying all through the woods by people who think that because they are white that they are better than people of color. We have made it a gang symbol, and if "you are not a member of the white gang, then stay off of our turf."
My son has a confederate flag hanging in his apartment. He thinks it does no harm. It bothers his black friends, but they say nothing about it. That is part of the problem for the human race, we say little about things until we get so angry that we explode.
We certainly do not want to scare off the recruits, do we? Imagine, having an enlightening discussion on a board is turning recruits away. Clausen is not coming to South Carolina because Dr. Pepper called out someone on racism. Let's not let anybody know on this site that racism is a cutting edge topic for the state of South Carolina. Let's just be quiet and maybe all the 5 star recruits won't notice.
Whites can play ball. People of color can succeed in business, education, and politics. In fact, if you really want to get down to it, the Asians are really the ones who are leading the way in medical research and technology today. While we white men have worked to protect our little world which has been slipping through our fingers for the past 50 years, much of the rest of the world (including 50 percent of the population - the women) has passed us.
I see signs of hope in the next generation. Change is painful, and for the last 40 to 50 years we have been either fighting to create or to resist change. However, there are plenty of opportunities out there for all people. I hope that my white children will take advantage of them and use their gifts and talents to make this a better world. I hope that my friends of color will do the same.
Maybe then, a young man or woman in kindergarten will be inspired to read and write. Do you realize how many athletes do not play ball after the ninth grade because they drop out of school? My son had a friend in little league that probably could have been the best athlete in the state of Georgia - big, strong, fast. Everyone spent their time helping him develop his game. Every little leage coach wanted him on their team. They drove him all over the place playing on all star teams. No one ever talked to him about things like reading, math, science. He never played high school ball because he failed the ninth grade. He never had enough credits to play. He washes dishes at a local restaurant because he never finished high school. Some of the greatest athletes will never play in college or the pros because they were told somewhere along the line that their legs or arms or bodies will get them where they want to be. Noone helped them with their mind or spirit. Part of the problem that coaches like Spurrier has is that while they see the potential in a player, they know that that player is not going to make it in college. Those that just get promoted along in high school because of their athletic ability are problematic to the college coaches. They want them, but they know that they will not be there for their sophomore year. That attrition rate at USC gives evidence of that.
For those of you who may be high school athletes and are still reading this. Do yourself a favor. Go to your teachers and say to them, I want to learn this stuff. They will help you. Don't ask them to pass you. Ask them to teach you. Learn the math. Learn to write a short story. Study those who fought and overcame racism. Let your brain carry you to college. Your feet will follow.

PC - You're wrong. If we had a march we'd be called the klan !

Cincinnati transfer and Chester native PG Devan Downey (5-9 165) committed to USC Monday and will be eligible to play for the Gamecocks in November of 2007. He chose Carolina over Kansas State, Ole Miss and Florida. "Basically, it was the place for me," Downey said. "I think it will be better if I come back home and play for coach Odom. I feel he and his staff have put the program in the right direction and I want to be a part of that." As a senior at Chester High he averaged over 25 points and 6 assists per game. He earned all freshman honors in the Big East last season averaging 12 points and 5 assists. He will have three years of eligiblity with the Gamecocks.

If he holds to his plans. T.L. Hanna RB Brian Maddox (6-2 215) has just one more month of recruiting before he will put it all behind him. Maddox plans to announce his choice June 2nd. He said he will actually finalize the decision May 28th, his birthday, but won't reveal the choice until June 2nd. "USC, Florida, Florida State and North Carolina are all together right now," Maddox said Sunday night. However, for most of the recruiting campaign Maddox has reported a strong lean to the Gamecocks. NC State come by his school last week and USC recruiters Fred Chatham and Robert Gillespie are to be in Monday along with a coach from Georgia Tech. North Carolina coach John Bunting will be in Tuesday.

USC commitments DB Gary Gray of Richland Northeast and OL Quintin Richardson of Spring Valley are part of a group planning to visit Tampa QB Stephen Garcia (6-3 215), a USC target, later this month. "I talked to Quintin and Gary and they said they are going to come down for the spring game and they might be staying at my house," Garcia said. "We are going to the Nike combine in Gainesville May 20th and we'll drive up together." Expected to join Gray and Richardson on the trip are Richland Northeast WR MarK Barnes, Batesburg-Leesville WR Dontrelle Inman and Cheraw DE Cliff Matthews. Garcia said his favorites remain USC, Florida, Ole Miss and Alabama in no particular order. Coaches from Clemson, NC State and West Virginia stopped by Garcia's school Wednesday. Florida coach Urban Meyer and a Nebraska assistant watched his practice Tuesday. Alabama's Mike Sula visited Monday. USC head coach Steve Spurrier and assistant David Reaves plan to visit for his spring game May 18th. Garcia said he has no idea when he'll make his decision.

USC head coach Steve Spurrier and Clemson assistant Billy Napier visited the school last week. Coaches from Virginia and Georgia Tech also have been in and North Carolina will be coming by soon. Inman said USC remains his favorite ahead of Georgia, Auburn, Virginia and Clemson in that order. "The lead is kind of big," he said. Inman had talked earlier about making a commitment in early May but now says he'll wait until some point in the season after he's had a chance to see some teams in action. 05-11-2006, 10:26 AM
The thing on rivals says that Lecorn has stated that his top two programs are Florida and USC. He says that the Gaytors and USC are his top choices, followed by UCF. He said,
"Me and our tight end, Lex Peek are going to visit South Carolina this summer. I have to get with him to figure out the exact date. I like their offense and how they use their wide receivers. If I decide I want to leave the state, that's pretty much where I plan to go."
So that doesnt sound too bad. He seems like a pretty talented player. He is 5'11" and 205 pounds, which is a good size for a WR, and he runs a 4.4 40. Last season he caught 51 balls for 1,151 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior.
Anyway, I hope we get this guy as I think that he will be a big addition to our WR core, and I love stealing Florida's players.

The second piece of USC’s transfer twosome is in place.
Zam “Buck” Fredrick II, who got his release from Georgia Tech last month, will commit to spend his final two seasons of eligibility at USC.
“We’re making the commitment,” Fredrick’s father, Zam Fredrick, said Thursday.
Fredrick, a 6-foot guard, must sit out the 2006-07 season because of NCAA transfer rules.
Fredrick’s decision marks the second South Carolina native in as many weeks to announce plans to transfer to USC. Former Chester High standout Devan Downey, who played his freshman season at Cincinnati, committed to the Gamecocks on May 1.
Downey told The State last week that he planned to help lure Fredrick, his former teammate on the South Carolina Ravens AAU team, to USC.
If the pair’s plans beef up the Gamecocks’ future roster, it adds an additional hurdle for Odom, who faces a summer of shuffling scholarships to make room for the team’s newest players.
NCAA rules allow basketball teams to have 13 players on athletics scholarships; the Gamecocks, who signed five high-school players in November, now have 15 players in line to be on next year’s roster.
Reserve forward Keving Palacios left the team Monday, which opened one scholarship.

Rivals just came out with new Rivals 150 for Class of 2007 for Basketball, and Mike Holmes dropped drastically from a four star to a three star and ranked #110 in the country.

Special to The State
Versatile Richland Northeast quarterback/defensive back Gary Gray watched last season as teammate Adam Patterson went through the recruiting “wars.”
Gray decided he didn’t want any part of that process.
The rising senior took away the suspense by committing to South Carolina shortly after the 2006 recruiting season was over.
His task is to convince the other top juniors in the Class of 2007 to follow him to Columbia.
“You establish relationships with guys and just talk about how their recruiting is going,” Gray said. “I can’t make the decision for them, but I can tell them we can do something special at South Carolina that hasn’t really been done before.”
Gray has tried to make that connection with most of the top juniors in the state, but he can look on his own sideline to find arguably the top uncommitted junior prospect. Wide receiver/defensive back Mark Barnes has offers from most major Division I programs, with Notre Dame, Southern Cal and South Carolina his top choices.
“Mark’s going to wait and make a decision because I think he’s enjoying the recruiting process,” Gray said. “I’ve been working on him, but he won’t crack.”
Gray made his decision early for several reasons. He is on track to graduate in December and wants to be able to enroll and participate in spring drills at USC next season.
He also didn’t want to get attached to too many coaches and have his decision clouded. He said Patterson told him choosing a college was the hardest decision he has had to make because of the fondness he developed for the coaches who made regular visits. Patterson ended up choosing Michigan.
“Adam told me not to wait until the end if I knew (where I wanted to go),” Gray said. “I grew up a Florida State fan, and it was hard turning them down, but in the end I had to go with my heart, and that was with the Gamecocks.”
Gray will be a duel threat for the Cavaliers this season. After starting quarterback Tye Wright went down with an ankle injury midway through the 2005 season, Gray took the reigns of the RNE offense and led it to a runner-up finish in Class 4A Division II.
He continued to play cornerback, finishing with 60 tackles and four interceptions.
He also returned kicks and punts, but he probably won’t this season.
Gray has taken the majority of his snaps at quarterback during spring practice, which concludes today with a mini-spring game on the Richland Northeast campus.
Gray has added the wide receiver position to his arsenal this spring. Wright has recovered and is splitting his time between wide receiver and quarterback, so the Cavaliers offense could be a dangerous unit by the time the season rolls around. They’ll have two guys that can line up under center on any given play, with the other one on the outside along with Barnes.
“I’ll do whatever Coach (Jay) Frye wants me too,” Gray said. “We have just as much talent as we had last year and we just need to work hard over the summer and go to our passing camps and get better.”

Someone tell me that this article on Scout about Brian Maddox is just him keeping people guessing. I thought he was making a decision soon.
By Phil Kornblut
T.L. Hanna RB Brian Maddox (6-2 215) said Tuesday afternoon he has no favorite among the seven schools he's considering the most despite an internet story quoting him as saying he would pick North Carolina if he had to make an immediate decision. "That's what they quoted me saying, but that's not accurate," Maddox said. "I told them North Carolina is recruiting me real hard along with South Carolina and Florida." Maddox said his seven favorites, in no order, are USC, North Carolina, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, NC State and Florida. He is also considering Viriginia Tech. Maddox said he talked Tuesday with USC recruiters Robert Gillespie and Fred Chatham, and he will place a call tonight to USC head coach Steve Spurrier. Maddox will visit North Carolina this Saturday and NC State on Sunday. He will go to Virginia Tech May 27th. The next day he will make his decision but he plans to sit on that information until announcing at a news conference at his school June 2nd at 6:30 PM, a news conference to be carried live on SportsTalk.

Richardson is going through rehab and said he's at about 80%. Richardson will attend the Nike combine in Gainesville, FL this weekend. And he said after considering graduating in December and enrolling at USC in January, he has decided not to do that so he can enjoy his entire senior year in high school.

Saunders has a lot of interest in the Gamecocks according to Williams. He has offers from Minnesota and Georgia Tech and is also getting interest from Arizona State, Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Arizona, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt. Williams added the Ellis continues to do well in the classroom and should qualify for freshman eligibility.

I'm sure this is who you're talking about.
By Phil Kornblut
USC is one of the five favorites right now with QB Tyrod Taylor (6-2 200) of Hampton, VA. "It's coach Spurrier's offense," Taylor said when asked why he's so strong on the Gamecocks. "I know he likes to pass the ball." Taylor can pass and run. Last season he threw for 1500 yards and 17 touchdowns and rushed for 1200 yards and 15 scores. He also lists in his top five Florida, Virginia Tech, NC State and Tennessee. He has a total of 22 offers. Taylor said he will take unofficial visits to his five favorites starting the end of May and going into June. He does not have a favorite and plans to have a decision before the start of his season.

T.L. Hanna RB Brian Maddox (6-2 215) spent his weekend between two points of North Carolina's Triangle. He spent most of Saturday and about three hours of Sunday in Chapel Hill taking another close look at UNC, then he traveled over to Raleigh to spend time with the NC State program. "He had been to both before so he had a pretty good feel for what they have to offer," Maddox's father said Sunday night. He accompanied his son on the trip. "He looked at both programs' strength, conditioning and speed programs. That's one of the criteria on the list. Another is the academics. And then a third is the coaching staff will have to resemble values similar to mine. It has to be a place where similar values will be instilled in him. He's still evaluating. In fact, we're going to Virginia Tech this Saturday. And he might go back to South Carolina this week to spend time with some players." Maddox also is considering Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Maryland. He will announce his decision June 2nd with a news conference at his school.

It Basically just said that they all did very well. all were in the top few players at their position. here is a few notes on Gary Gray:
Many onlookers thought Gary Gray was the best prospect at the Gainesville NIKE camp.
South Carolina commitment Gary Gray was the best cornerback at the camp, and it really wasn't close. His performance in the one-on-one drills was heads and shoulders above anyone else's. Only one player caught a ball on him, and he ran about six different routes to do it.
Florida State Rivals.com Publisher and Recruiting Analyst Gene Williams watched Gray closely during the day, and had one simple comment once the one-on-one drills were complete.
"Gary Gray is the real deal," Williams said. "He's definitely got my vote to be a five-star player (on Rivals.com)."

Georgia DB Commits To USC

DB Addison Williams (5-9 175) of Atlanta committed to USC Thursday. He also has offers from Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Tulane and Indiana but likes the opportunities for him at USC. "They are an up and coming program and I feel like I'll have a chance to come in and compete early for playing time," Williams said. "I like the way they bring pressure and like to leave their corners on an island to cover." Williams had 32 tackles and 6 interceptions last season. Westside High coach Dallas Allen says the Gamecocks are getting a tremendous person and cornerback. "I don't care who we are playing, he's probably the fastest man on the field," Allen said. "He's first class. He's just a kid you want on your sideline. He's a natural. It's like God took a chisel and made himself a corner. He has excellent footwork and great recovery." Williams was recruited for USC by Ron Cooper. He says he's firm with his commitment "but I'm still open to what other schools have to say." He will formalize his commitment with Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier after the coaching staff returns from the Memorial Holiday break. He will camp at USC June 10th.

im not sure. being a Junior College guy i was hopeing he would be able to come in early and learn the play book and stuff. but by the time he gets here he will basically on the same level as the incoming freshmen.
I didn't realize he was a JUCO. Even if he starts at the same time as the rest, he will be well ahead as a JUCO transfer than if he was arriving from HS.

What kind of BS statement is that to make. The kid seems like a definite maybe. I'm sure Spurrier loved hearing that he was "still open to what other schools have to say". If he is waiting to hear what UGA has to say, he may be waiting a very long time.
oh what is he not good enough to play for UGA or something? He didnt even mention the bulldogs. Maybe he dosent even like them. Not all Gerogia kids want to go to UGA.

When exactly did I say this? I was simply saying that if he has already committed to SC then he won't even be getting a look see from UGA but, now that you have brought it, looking at his stats and his size, no, he would never have been offered a scholarship to UGA.

He is supposedly in the exact same mold of Tim Jennings.

Is he allowed to have tutors?
He cannot receive tutoring from Carolina until he is enrolled and on campus. I don't foresee Spurrier spending much more time on this kid. He was supposed to be here in the spring, then the summer, now the fall. Spurrier won't have much more patience with this kid.

We'll see. I agree that he looks strong for SC but I am not holding my breath until I know for sure.

A national analyst from rivals.com was quoted last week saying, "Eric Berry and Gary Gray are two of the best cornerbacks I have seen in ten years."

Hey WB....any word on Maddox from the inside? Did SOS get the call?

Not a word on Maddox at all. All of the recruiting services are honoring the fact that he wants to announce on Friday. I'll tell you something I'm looking for. Rivals.com lists Lee Chambers (RB Coffeeville, MS) as having been offered by Carolina. This is actually not the case. Carolina does like him a lot. He is a speedster. Speculation is that Chambers would commit to Carolina if he was offered. If Carolina does not offer Chambers this week, then I'll continue to feel good about Maddox. If Carolina does offer Chambers, then there may be cause for a little worry. No offer yet = no worries yet.

Yeah, that would be interesting to know since we need some action around here, two commitments in 2 weeks would constitute that I would believe.

I would love to have both running backs. but Maddox is first priority since he is an Instate guy. not to mention the chemistry he seems to have with our other commitments is just screaming good things.

RB Brian Maddox (6-2 215) of T.L. Hanna turned 17 Sunday, and as part of his day long celebration, he and his family will make a decision tonight on his college choice. "I'm going to keep it secret until Friday," Maddox said. He plans to announce his choice at a 6:30 PM news conference Friday at his school. Maddox said he narrowed his list to a final five Sunday morning of USC, Virginia Tech, Florida, North Carolina and Florida State in no order. Maddox made an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech Saturday. "I sat down and talked to coach Beamer and toured the whole campus. I think it's a good place." Maddox news conference will be aired across the state Friday on SportsTalk on the South Carolina News Network.

USC recruit OL Clarence Bailey (6-7 330) of Lackawanna JC, PA said Wednesday he is making progress with the remaining classes he needs to graduate from the junior college and is planning to enroll at USC in July for the second session of summer school. "I finished one class, stats, and got an A minus," Bailey said. "That was not an online class, so it wasn't a big hastle. I'm taking an accounting class online. Basically, I just have to take the exam and I'm done. I waiting on coach Duda to make contact with BYU Independent Studies to set up the exam. I got an A in all the assignments. I just need a C in the accounting class." Bailey said he expects to take that exam soon. He talked with USC line coach John Hunt Tuesday and started his summer workout program yesterday.

Big time offers continue dropping in for QB Logan Gray (6-2 180) of Columbia, MO. Gray was offered Wednesday by Michigan State and last week by California. Among his other offers are USC, Clemson, Auburn, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, NC State, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Nebraska. "I talked to coach Spurrier a week ago," Gray said. "They want me to come down this summer. They are really excited about me." Gray knows the Gamecocks are also pursuing quarterback Stephen Garcia of Tampa. The two of them were together recently at a combine and talked a little recruiting. "We didn't get in to too much detail," he said. "I don't think either of us will base a decision on the other one." Gray said he talked with Clemson quarterback coach Rob Spence last week, his second conversation with Spence. "They say they are really interested," Gray said. "They said they are low on quarterbacks right now and they plan to sign two for sure." Gray said he has not narrowed his list. He plans to take a trip to the South in late June with stops at USC, Georgia and Auburn, and possibly Clemson and NC State. He does not have a favorite.

Hey has anyone got any news on kickers that we are targeting? I know Rivals has a few listed, one being from SC who has us listed high. I think we are in need of one right now. I know we have Succop. He's got a cannon but I'm not sure how proven he is. I really liked Brown, he was quality. Just wondering if anyone has any news on this? Side note..............if Spurrier stays at USC a minimum of 10 years (if the Lord doesn't return first) I can only say one thing................we will be good..........we will have a SEC championship (hopefully more)...............we will be a national contender!!! Thats music to my ears!!!
