I'm basing it on reports that have been coming in for the past year from different outlets. I don't have any groundbreaking information on him. Plus, the way he and his family went about the recruiting process leads me to believe that he won't be playing wherever he decides to sign.

Every weekend during January, Clifton was up in New Jersey working with a specialist to raise his SAT score. He was unable to take his visits on the weekends like all the other prospects. That is why he waited so long to decide. Reports we have heard say that he raised his SAT score dramatically and he is a lot closer to qualify.

Even if he has to go to prep school, it may not be all bad. At this point, he is a project. He is 6'7" but only weighs 285. That 6'7" frame has a lot of weight that can be put on and a year at prep school just gives him more time to bulk up.

He has some huge personality issues. However,if he gets thoes straightened out UGA will have a fist round draft pick. Thats a project that I wish we had. It's something that only time will tell.Good luck to Clifton and UGA.

I am not saying Scout was right in voting Maddox a one star. In fact I just thought it goes to show that sometimes theres is a little off, in some cases more then others.

Guys im not sure but, I think they dont assign stars until the combines that they have. I think they have everyone as a 1 star except the players who went to their combines as juniors. All the stars and stuff is updated over the summer. I dont know if I'm right but that just makes sense. Gray is going to be a 5-star no matter what. He's going to be one of the Top 10 players in the country next year.

I don't know when they are going to update, but I hope it is soon. I don't think scout is going to be doing much of anything with their list of FB prospects until after their combines. The only thing that gets updated regularly at this time is the hot news on recruiting.

QB John Brantley IV (6-3 185) of Ocala, FL is not taking in any junior days at schools this spring according to his father because they want to take their visits when they have the time to meet for extended periods with the head coach, quarterback coach and offensive coordinator, something they feel they couldn't do with all the prospects involved in a junior day. The Brantley's visited Alabama this past Saturday and will go to Texas March 21st and to Miami April 8th. They also plan to see USC and Oklahoma. They will not make it to Columbia in time for one of the Gamecocks spring practices. According to his father, Brantley wants to make a decision before the start of practice in the fall. and USC figures strongly into the picture right now. "I'd say they are in the mix," John Brantley III said Monday afternoon. "There's a lot of opportunity up there. I was born in Chester. Johnny was born in Baptist Hospital in Columbia. I ran the marketing department for Carolina Ceramics for five years. I actually grew up in Greenville (on the same street with Steve Fuller). One of my sisters lives in Goose Creek. We've got a lot of connections in the Columbia area." Brantley III played quarterback at Florida when Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier was an assistant coach there. And his brother Scott was a standout linebacker at Florida who went on to an NFL career. So, the Gators are obviously a factor. "Florida is big in the mix," Brantley said. "It's only 30 miles away. The biggest thing is determining if we're a fit for that system. He (Urban Meyer) is going to try and do what he's done in the past. Is that Johnny's best role? We don't know yet. They believe he can run that system. We're going to watch it over the spring. We're wide open."

RB Brian Maddox (6-2 215) of T.L. Hanna made an unofficial visit to Auburn Saturday and will continue his busy spring schedule this week when he comes to USC to watch a spring practice Thursday. Maddox said he will sit in on a running backs meeting before that practice. As for Auburn, Maddox said he enjoyed the trip and picked up an offer from the Tigers. "I really like their facilities," he said. "The weight room, their stadium, and I like their whole coaching staff." Maddox also picked up an offer from Florida over the weekend. Still, his favorite remains the same. "USC is still my favorite," he said. "I still plan on making a commitment but I'm thinking I'll back it up some to sometime in June since all the schools have come on." Previously, Maddox had said he would commit on his birthday May 28th. Maddox will visit NC State March 25th and UNC the next day, and he will go to Virginia Tech April 15th. Maddox also has offers from Clemson, Maryland, Duke and Vanderbilt.

These kids can be pretty funny..There is no reason why maddox had to originally say that he wanted to commit on his bday..Why say something like that? He is just excited and enjoying his limelight. He has every right too wait until signing day..or after if you are clifton geathers..haha...I will just plan on him committing on signing day. These kids only have so many opportunities where they "center stage"..Some are humble and some are, how can we say, not so humble..ie captain munnerlyn..

Gary Gray has decided to go ahead and end his recruiting process next Thursday. He says he currently has no favorite, but this kid has had South Carolina written all over him since day one. He will be making his choice at a press conference in the Marriot or Holiday Inn in Columbia. He will choose between South Carolina, Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, and NC State.

Keep in mind that Gray and Barnes have been at spring practice and hanging out with Sidney Rice this week.

wow, that would be an amazing start. that alone might convince maddox to stick to his original plan of committing on his Bday.

i'll bet if gray does commit here, barnes wouldn't be too far behind. now barnes' might not be as strong, but having those guys on the list so early would make us look better to all the other recruits, even if one of them changes their mind later on.

I would be really shocked if Gray dosent commit to us. It seems like he's on the USC campus ALL the time and he's been to spring practice according to a couple of reports. He only got once chance to look at Notre Dame etc... and he's seen everything at USC, so I'm pretty confident that we will get him especially because he has decided to commit so early. If he does pick us, hopefully he dosent switch commitments at the end of the high school season/

OK well today i had some time to look at some film from the wide recievers and Quarterbacks we have on our board. i started off by watching Brantley's film. all i can say is if we "Settle" for him we will be perfectly fine. he is an amazing player and can really throw the ball. also watching his film i noticed a certain receiver that was just making some UNBELIEVABLE catches then making some unbelievable moves to make people miss. so i looked it up and found out who it was. Dion Lecorn is his name and he is also a Top 100 prospect. if we can pull in Brantley we may be able to pull in Lecorn. but he is favoring 3 Florida schools. UF, USF and UCF. he was possibly my favorite of all the Receivers we have OFFERED so far. we have offered 6 WR's so far and 4 of those are Top 100 players. so that excites me greatly. also Brian Maddox is a beast! Very Fast with some excelent moves. So Far it looks as if Spurrier is Offering some VERY remarkable talent. Judging from the videos on Rivals we will be fine with any of the guys that are on our board right now. If Gray Commits to us and stays firm with his commitment, watch for guys like Barnes, Richardson to commit. then if we can get Brantley or Clausen Many more great skill position players will follow them. that will get the ball rolling and we will have a VERY outstanding class in 2007.

Richardson Makes Major Course Change
By Phil Kornblut
For the better part of of his recruiting, Spring Valley OL Quintin Richardson (6-5 275) has openly been a lean to USC. That has changed. "I'm opening things up," Richardson said Wednesday night. "Me and my family sat down and looked at some things. It's just the basic things that we looked at. I'm not going to USC this weekend." Richardson had planned to watch a USC spring practice Saturday. And he said he probably won't attend USC's spring game April 8th and might instead go to Clemson's. Asked why the sudden change in his thinking, Richardson said, "I don't know. Sitting down and looking at things opened my eyes. I don't know. It's really crazy." Richardson said he doesn't have a leader now, though he added that "Tennessee has always been my childhood favorite." According to a source, there is not strong support for USC among some key members of Richardson's innter circle. Richardson said he does not plan to visit anywhere this weekend. He will go to North Carolina March 25th and then to the All American combine in Durham on the 26th. He plans to attend Virginia Tech's spring game April 15th. He has offers from USC, Clemson, Maryland, Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn, Virginia Tech and East Carolina.

i don't mind if Richardson goes to Tennessee cause it was his childhood favorite and that's where he feels most comfortable....but i really hate when i hear statements like "his inner circle is not supporting one school." even when it leads a kid to USC, it really bothers me. this is never going to change though. it's of course understandable if we're talking about a situation where a kid wants to go somewhere that has discipline problems/substandard academics/etc but the majority of D-IA schools are very similar in these regards.

Williams-Brice
03-16-2006, 12:48 AM
First of all, let's try not to focus on this Richardson thing for right now. All he has done is open up his recruiting even more, and that's okay. We are so far away from February 1st that some things really don't need to be stressed just yet. The reason we can focus on this Gary Gray thing is that Gray will probably stick to his commitment when he makes it.

My only concern is that the Gray news and this Richardson news has come on the same day. I hope the two are not related, and I don't think they are. All signs point to Gray making his commitment to the Gamecocks on March 23rd. All signs point to Richardson simply wanting to weigh his options more than he was already doing.

Also, I see this Gray commitment serving as a catalyst for our class. Richardson will probably come around in the end, but that's not to be worried about right now. Signing Day is so far away, but like I said, Gary Gray will stick with whatever commitment he makes on March 23rd.

yeah i don't know. maybe his family isn't originally from around here and had previously dreamed of him going to some other school. either way i think most kids in the end make their own decision, and i certainly hope richardson does the same and the school he eventually chooses is USC....i hate it for those kids that get pressured somewhere though.

Clemson and USC are among the many schools showing interest this spring in DB Justin Byers (6-1 180) of Charlotte. NC State is his only official offer thus far according to Vance High coach Jeff Simpson, but Byers is also drawing attention from the Tigers, Gamecocks, Florida, LSU, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Tennessee and others. Byers can play corner or safety and can also play receiver. He scored a total of 8 touchdowns last season. "He's always around the ball," his coach said. In a year of bountiful prospects in South Carolina, one who has not yet received his fair share of attention is RB Nick Bethea (5-9 185) of Dreher. "Nick, in our opinion, is the best running back in the state," said Dreher coach Bill Bacon. "He is set to eclipse all the school career rushing records. He can make you miss or run thru you." Bethea rushed for 1506 yards and scored 20 total touchdowns last season. For his career he has 3517 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns. He also averaged 37 yards per kickoff return last season. Hey does anyone know if there will be live coverage this Thursday for Gary Grey's announcement? If not, I hope someone will be onhand to give us all an update. This really is driving me crazy. All the signs point to him coming to us, but it almost seems to good to be true.

I'm currently trying to figure out a way to be there. I have a close friend in the media, and I help him do some post-practice interviews with coaches and players during the season. If he is going, then there is a chance I can go. I have to get out of a lot of other engagements that night, though. I'll keep everyone posted.

Hey everybody! Sorry I keep getting sidetracked with my job and all, but I am seriously going to try to get as much info up as possible today.

I will warn you ahead of time that some of the info may have already been posted. However, seeing as it's been a while since my last post and I have a good bit of hot news to get everyone caught up on, it'll be easier for me just to throw everything up here even if it has already been posted.

I will try to put the date that each bit of hot news was originally released to help people avoid confusion about what is old and what is new news.

Greg Little (6' 3" 203 lbs) from Durham (NC) Hillside put up some impressive numbers as a junior last year. He had 160 carries for 1166 yards and 26 TD's and also had 23 catched for 470 yds and 4 TD's.

For anyone wondering, that's 7.3 yds/carry and a TD almost every 6 carries.
As a receiver he averaged about 20 yds/catch and scored a TD about every 5th reception.

Little also played 3 games on D, and recorded 30 tackles and 4 picks as a safety.

Little says that he would like to play both WR and RB in college and that any school that could offer that would have an advantage over his other offers.

Little said that he is hearing from most of the schools in the ACC and SEC. He is also hearing from Michigan, Notre Dame, and Oregon. I have offers from Wake Forest, Florida, North Carolina , South Carolina, NC State, Duke, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Clemson, Tennessee, and Virginia. He said that he is wide open and everyone is neck and neck.

Little plans to visit all of the schools that have offered at some point this spring and then start to narrow his list of favorites.

Little grew up a Miami fan and Portis was his favorite player.

He is going to camp at UF on June 3rd and the gators said they want the ball in his hands so he can go out and do great things for them.

He stated that he wants to be able to count on his coaching staff to allow him to go home if he has family problems and be able to see his family if they want to see him.

He wants to major in ComSci and the school he attends needs to have a good tutoring system.

ATH Darryl Vereen (6' 2" 205 lbs) from Huntersville, NC has an offer from Duke, but is also hearing from N.C. State, Wake Forest, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

Vereen does not have favorite at this point.

Vereen, who runs a 4.4 40, is primarily being recruited as a RB, but is getting some looks as a DB.

Verren gained 1200 yds and scored 15 TD's his junior year even though he missed 3 games with a broken hand.

Jacksonville (FL) Andrew Jackson star D'Angelo McCray (6' 4" 265 lbs) is considered by many coaches as the #1 DE in florida. McCray runs a forty in the 4.6 - 4.7 range and says he is faster than many guys his size has good football speed because of his good vision.

McCray, who holds a 3.0 GPA, caught 18 balls for 369 yds as a TE and recorded 52 Tachles, 26 TFL, and 12 Sacks as a DE. He states he will play whatever position his coaches ask him to.

UT, Ole Miss, and Louisville want him to play tight end. Everyone else wnats him on defense.

McCray says his favorites are Florida, Notre Dame, Clemson, Florida State, and Michigan, but says that he is still wide open.

McCray attended the Scout.com Combine on March 19 in Jacksonville.

Ruiz does not have great stats b/c of the offense used by his HS. However he did help 3 different backs rush for over 800 yds each, and caught 7 passes for 100 yds as a TE. As a DE he had 20 tackles and 3 sacks. Ruiz believes his best asset is his speed.

Ruiz currently has an offer from FAU and already has a passing SAT score.
However, Ruiz lists his favorites as South Carolina and Pitt. Ruiz plans on attending the scout combine at FAU on May 13th.

ok here is the word i have about gary...It is a done deal with South Carolina..Apparently he silently committed to CSS a couple of weeks ago. From what i gather, CSS wanted to get Gary to commit publicly for exposure purposes. Having a 5 star first team DB commit so early is just what the university would like as a first recruit..They believe it will really help with the instate kids to see an early commit..I also hear that the quinton richardson thing is totally overhyped. We are definitely in the picture.

Quentin did not attend Jr Day at Ole Miss because he was taking the ACT. He has a 15 on the test now but needs an 18. he has a 2.3 core GPA. Ole Miss has told him that if he does well on the ACT then there is a good chance that he will get an offer.
Saulsberry has been invited to Auburn and USC. Because Auburn is closer, Quentin will go visit there and may attend their junior day.

However, USC is still showing a lot of interest in Quentin, and he beleives they are close to offering. Saulsberry stated that Ole Miss, USC, and Auburn are sending him the most mail.

Quentin has started on both sides of the ball (OT/DT) for the past 3 years, though most colleges want Saulsberry as an OL.

Saulsberry will be at the Scout.com combine at Ole Miss on the 30th of April.

Quintin Richardson saw Notre Dame over the weekend. Richardson said that the trip went great and went on to say that the campus is beautiful, and that Weiss is a great guy. Richardson toured the weightroom, practice field and stadium.

ND wants him to play DL and so have not offered Quintin because they do not have tape on him playing as a defensive lineman.

Richardson played some at defensive tackle during the U.S. Army National Combine and looked good there. He will play both OL and DL for the durham Scout.com Combine set for March 26th.

Gary Gray was also on the trip

"Clemson and Tennessee are up their strong with me," Richardson said Wednesday night. Richardson also has offers from USC, Maryland, Middle Tennessee State, Kentucky, Auburn, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, North Carolina and NC State. Richardson will visit North Carolina Saturday then attend the All American combine at Duke Sunday. He will be at Clemson April 1st and plans to attend Tennessee's spring game April 8th. When asked if he is considering committing to Clemson on his visit, Richardson said, "It's something that's been in my mind a little bit, but I don't think I'll do anything then." Richardson said with more schools offering, he is probably going to take a little more time in making a final decision.

I've read where Gray has been talking to many other top recruits and how they've all discussed going to the same school to have a MAJOR impact rather than splitting up and having little to no impact. We'll see, but it could get interesting. At the very least, hat's off to Gray for going with the underdog. He believes. That alone gets my respect. Gray Staying Home
By Phil Kornblut
Richland Northeast DB Gary Gray (5-10 165) announced a commitment to USC Thursday night at his school's auditorium. Gray had narrowed his decision to the Gamecocks and Notre Dame. "It feels great," he said of his decision. "I can concentrate on the season. I'm 100% Gamecock." Gray said he gave Notre Dame a hard look, but in the end it was hard for him to leave home. "My mom has been to every game," he said. "If I went somewhere else, I didn't know if she could come or not. Notre Dame is a great school. I grew a relationship with coach Weis. I love their facilities but I had to do what was best for me." Gray is part of a close fraternity of junior prospects in South Carolina, and he plans to turn recruiter over the next few months. "I'm going to try and get some recruits in like Mark Barnes (WR of Richland Northeast) and Quintin Richardson (OL of Spring Valley)." Gray plays corner and quarterback for the Cavaliers and helped lead them to the 4A Division Two state title game last season. And he envisions himself perhaps playing two spots with the Gamecocks. "I'll play at corner and once I get that down, they might try and move me over to receiver for spot play." Gray is on track to graduate in December and enroll at USC next January. Last season he had 67 tackles with 14 pass break ups and 2 interceptions. He picked USC over offers from 15 other programs.

Gray's Decision Already Having Impact
By Phil Kornblut
It's USC's hope that the early commitment from Richland Northeast DB Gary Gray will influence other top junior prospects in the state to follow suit. Thursday night's announcement has already had an effect on one of those players, RB Brian Maddox (6-2 215) of T.L. Hanna. "I kind of knew he was going to South Carolina," Maddox said. "He's a good person. He would be a great person to play with. He texted me and I told him congratulations. He told me 'I just need to get you and Quintin (Richardson) here with me.' " Maddox won't be a hard sell because he has been, and remains a hard lean to the Gamecocks. But what Gray's decision has done is cause Maddox to rethink his announcement plans. "Yea, I think I'm going to do it on my birthday again," Maddox said of the May 28th date. "I'm going to stick with that." Maddox originally said he would announce on his birthday, but after receiving a number of offers, he said he would wait until sometime in June." Maddox will visit NC State this Saturday and then North Carolina on Sunday. He will go to USC's spring game April 8th.

I believe the part about wanting to bring scouts to their school. My gosh, they've got a remarkable program. They have a DE (not sure of the name), who as a freshman last season played opposite Adam Patterson. As you would expect, Patterson garnered a lot of attention, and this freshman ran wild. We gotta get on this boy now.

Actually it could have an affect on his Star rating and amount of offers the other guys get. it will Go ahead and get there name out there with these scouts and as Freshmen or sophmores the hype of these guys has 3-4 years to grow. which will ultimately make these guys in higher demand.

I am sure that it has to help that our first commitment is Gary Grey. He is a local star and the fact that Maddox has already decided to stick with the birthday announcement now that Gary has committed tells me that others want to jump on the SC train before it leaves without them. If Gary is any indication then they better jump on board because we don't seem to be taking second best this year.

Supposedly coach Frye stated that in an interview i read it on rivals but cant remember which thread it was on. i dont know how much is true but i like to believe it is. i can see them both trying to become 5* players by playing the recruiting game.

This is where i got that from TrueGCFan. i had some of the Details Mixed up but here is the exact words from Barnes himself.

While Barnes is excited about his Rivals.com ranking, he isn't satisfied and he'll work even harder to reach his individual goal.

"(The ranking) feels good because there aren't too many players that can say that," he said. "But I'm not one of those players to brag about it. I have a goal to be a five-star and I'm not there yet."

Barnes' teammate, Gary Gray, shares many of the same scholarship offers and the two have discussed playing together in college.

RNE does not need Barnes to get get recruiters to that school. There are plenty of other upperclassmen there who are being scouted.

Barnes does not need the "recruiting wars" to get to 5*. He needs to continue with building his size, speed, and skills so that he can earn the star on the field.

We are no different from any other school. You have 50-60 college kids on a team, and a percentage of them are going to make mistakes. Remember, they are college kids, which does not excuse the behavior, just explains it.

I saw them, but not sure who they were. Gary Gray was there working them over, though!! I also noticed a few of our freshmen there as well. Yesterday was nearly perfect in every way, and although I left a little early, I read that the defense finally showed up late in the scrimmage.

This current Auburn defensive lineman chose the Tigers coming out of high school over other offers from schools such as Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, Nebraska and Michigan State and was rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com. The 6-foot-2, 270-pound player has seen limited snaps during his two-year career on The Plains, something that has led him to decide to transfer. Find out more in this exclusive story.

His name is Neil Brown.

Garret Anderson, Hutch Eckerson, and Gary Gray were there as far as signees/commits go. Ryan Brown and Todd Campbell were both there. Ryan is a RB from NC with offers from all of the big boys (Michigan, Texas, Florida, etc.) with no reported leader (although some think he is a long shot for us). Campbell is a WR from Tennessee. He has a high interest in Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These guys both have the potential to be in the Top 100. It was good to get them on campus for an unofficial visit.

There were a few other guys there, but I'm not sure who they were. Caleb King, who is projected to be #1 RB overall next year, was supposed to be there, but he didn't make it for whatever reason. He coming out of Parkview High School in Atlanta. That's the same school Jeff Francouer attended, and the same school I would have attended had we not moved (when I was 6 months old HA!)

Recruiting

USC’S COMMITMENT LAST week from Richland Northeast defensive back Gary Gray (5-foot-10, 165 pounds) was the Gamecocks’ first from a very talented in-state junior class. They hope others will follow Gray, who plans to do all he can to get some of his classmates to join him.

Two other top juniors are closing in on decisions, with one set on the Gamecocks. T.L. Hanna running back Brian Maddox (6-2, 215) was contacted by Gray last Thursday after his commitment.

“I kind of knew he was going to South Carolina,” Maddox said. “He’s a good person and would be a great person to play with. He told me that he needed to get me and (Spring Valley offensive lineman) Quintin Richardson there with him.”

Maddox remains a strong lean to USC and is planning to announce a commitment to the Gamecocks on his birthday, May 28. Maddox was scheduled for unofficial visits to N.C. State and North Carolina over the weekend. He plans to attend USC’s spring game April 8 and picked up an offer from Florida State last week.

Richardson (6-5, 275) also is closing in on a decision. Richardson, who was offered last week by North Carolina and N.C. State, plans to be at Clemson this Saturday. He is also planning to attend Tennessee’s spring game April 8. Richardson made unofficial visits to North Carolina and N.C. State over the weekend.

Richland Northeast wide receiver Mark Barnes (6-3, 190) said he has narrowed his list to USC, Notre Dame and Louisville. Barnes indicated the Gamecocks and the Irish are the top two right now, but he does not plan to announce until the middle or the end of the season.

Justin Byers (6' 1" 185 lbs) received his first offer from NC state on the 7th of March. UNC, UVa, Tennessee, and USC have told Byers that they wish to evaluate his film before offering.

Byers is from Charlotte (N.C.) Vance and has stated that he has no current favorites.

Byers has already been on unofficial visits to UNC, N.C. State, Wake Forest, and UVa. He attended junior day at Tennessee.

Last season, Byers shared the defensive backfield with UVa recruit Rico Bell, but still racked up 75 tackles and three picks. As a WR Byers caught four balls for 146 yards and scored two TDs. Byers also scored 2 TDs on punt returns.

Davis, who is also a track star, caught 39 balls for 780 yards and 12 TD's and was named Best of the Preps. Davis states that his speed and his ability to catch the ball are his best assets.

Davis has offers from Ole Miss, the Gamecocks, and Tennessee and has attended jr. days at Ole Miss, LSU, and Tennessee. Davis is slso interested in South Carolina and Alabama, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Nebraska, MSU, Florida, and Georgia.

Davis has stated that he wants to go to school with great acadmics and a great football program and has stated that playing time is not important. He has said that he would be happy just playing special teams or even being redshirted his freshman year.

Martin has said that he will play whatever position is needed in college, but beleives he will end up on the desensive line. Martin is a stout competitor who hates losing and never gives up, even when the team is behind, something he thinks a lot of HS kids don't necessarily do.

Martin has a 3.2 GPA and plans on attending the May 13th Scout.com All-American Combine at FAU.

Martin also plays basketball and competes in track, and is getting plenty of interest from college coaches including Rutgers, Minnesota, and Georgia Tech. However, Martin says his favorites are Miami, UF, ND, Auburn, South Carolina, and Louisville.

Unfortunately for the Cocks, Miami holds a big edge since they have always been his favorite team and they have an architecture program, which is what Martin wishes to study.

Ford currently has no favorites and plans to make his decision right before his senior seaon starts.

Ford has already visited South Carolina and will visit Virginia Tech, Auburn, and N.C. State in the upcoming months.

The Gamecocks want Ford to play TE, while everyone else seems as though they are unsure where they would play Ford, but seem to be indicating safety or LB. Ford has stated that he would prefer to play WR, so he can continue to pick on smaller DB's.

Ford sat out the first game of his junior season after transferring from Palmetto HS and then separated his shoulder, which caused him to miss three more games. Despite this, Ford still caught 38 passes for 822 yards and a touchdown.

Brantley talked with coach Shula for long periods before and after the Saturday's scrimmage. Brantley learned the goals for the offense. Brantley stated that he liked coach Shula and that he thought that he is a really good coach and a good person.

Brantley, who plans to reach an early decision, lists UF, UGa, Alabama, Texas, South Carolina, Florida State and Miami as his favorites. Brantley has said that they are all pretty much equal at this point. Brantley added that he likes Alabama a lot, but admitted that it may because it was the first school that he visited.

I bought the subscription to get info on the cocks and the nfl draft - but even the draft coverage is not all that great. Scouts scouts didn't even stay till the end of the combine when workouts were running late on the last day. Some of the best info that I pass along to you guys about recruits - the really in depth articles that I have read don't come from the gamecocks scout site. The gamecocks news will have a preview of an article with a click here to read more link that will take me to gatorbait where UF will have a great article/interview with a recruit that they are going after as well as the gamecocks. The last article ( i.e. not hot news) that showed up was on feb 2nd, and the last before that was announcing simpson as an all-american. "I'm going to announce my decision April 7th at the Little Theatre at Spring Valley High School," Richardson said. "It's tight with USC and Clemson right now." Richardson said he was also still considering Tennessee, Maryland and NC State. He said he had not yet made the actual decision and would not be making any more visits. Richardson made the Clemson visit along with his mother, grandmother, grandfather and stepfather. "It went good," he said. "It was the same as the last time I went up there. I watched the scrimmage and I talked to coach Bowden a little bit. It was just basic talk. I saw Will Korn there and talked to him a little bit." Mark Brantley, the QB from Florida everyone was hoping to get if we don't land Clausen, is going to make his announcement on Wednesday. Needless to say, it will not be in favor of South Carolina. Most are saying he is a Texas lock.

Spurrier has said all along that he wants to sign at least one quarterback per recruiting class. Here's where we stand this year:

1. Jimmy Clausen: There is nothing you don't know. Jimmy will announce his choice in October so he can make some official visits before making a decision. Jimmy, as you know, is the best quarterback in the country and will be the top prospect in the country. It's still a Notre Dame - South Carolina battle with So Cal still very much in the mix.

2. Mark Brantley: If he doesn't put on a Texas Longhorn cap on Wednesday, then he will be putting on a Florida Gator cap. He ain't going anywhere else.

3. Stephen Garcia: No official offers are being reported for Garcia as of right now. However, he likes all the big boys. If you can think of a big name program, then this kid is interested in them. His technique is not as consistant as the other quarterbacks on this list, but that is because he is a dual-threat guy. He's got moves, and he can elude a lot of guys. Thus, he likes to throw on the run. Brantley's decision will have a lot to do with where Garcia stands. If Brantley doesn't choose Florida, then it is believed that Florida will rise to the top of Garcia's list.

4. Logan Gray: This may be a new name for Gamecock fans, as he is the latest quarterback to be offered. He is listed as a dual-threat quarterback. Hailing from Columbia, Missouri, Logan has offers from Florida, Mizzou, Kansas, Kansas State, South Carolina, North Carolina, and NC State. He also likes Georgia and Iowa. This kid has fantastic touch with what appears to be a strong arm. I like our chances, and we may just end up with this guy if we don't get Clausen.

That's where we stand as of now. Out of this list, we haven't offered only Garcia. We have also offered Willy Korn, who is a Clemson lock.

WB, what makes you think he is such a Texas lock. I don't pretend to know I was just always under the impression that SC was pretty strongly in the mix due to some of his family living in Columbia and his family's love of Spurrier.

He visited Columbia last year and didn't like it. Supposedly he was born here, but when he visited last year, it wasn't for him. The general vibe for the past week or two has been that he will play for Florida or Texas. Texas appears to be the front runner. We were in the mix for a while.

Not trying to be picky but isn't it John Brantley? I have read that he will be a Longhorn as well. Texas just recently gave an ultimatum to Ryan Mallet, the top QB in Texas. They said that they needed to know of his decision very soon. Mallet wasn't ready. This leads me to believe that Texas feels very good about Brantley.

Florida QB To Watch USC
By Phil Kornblut
QB Stephen Garcia (6-3 215) of Tampa said Monday night he will make an unofficial visit to USC this weekend to watch the Gamecocks' spring game. Garcia said he will coming by himself and will fly into Columbia Friday afternoon after school. He will return to Tampa Saturday night. Garcia said he is not currently scheduled to take in any other spring games. Garcia said at his father's request he is not revealing his list of offers, but he said schools recruiting him that he's interested in include USC, Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Iowa, Michigan and Stanford. He has also made unofficial visits to Florida and Georgia. Garcia said he has a good relationship with USC recruiter David Reaves. Last season Garcia passed for 2800 yards and 28 touchdowns and rushed for 700 yards and 8 scores. He said he does not have a favorite nor a timetable for making a decision. He said he could decide to graduate early from high school depending on which school he chooses.

I was just wondering if you could give this guy the tour and report back?

I was asked to work the spring game this Saturday. They wanted me to give guys a tour of the new weight room/facilities at the stadium. However, I have a practice MCAT from 8:00-3:30. I won't be able to make it to the stadium at all. I'm really getting sick of having to do this. I have less than 3 weeks to go. Now that Garcia will be here, it gives me more reason to wish I could be at the spring game.

SilverBritches, you are correct. I was going too fast with my report. It is John Brantley. Also, Georgia did offer Logan Gray at noon today. I made my post a little before 10 this morning, so I beat them to it. Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

Campbell Ready To Announce
By Phil Kornblut
WR Todd Campbell (6-0 185) of Franklin, TN has scheduled a news conference at his high school for 1:00 PM Eastern Time Wednesday to announce his college choice. He is down to USC, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. "I don't know yet," he said Monday night. "I kinda, sorta do. But I can't finalize it yet. I'm still doing a little research so that when I do make the decision, it's the right one for me. I could put all three in a hat and be happy with it. It probably will come down to a little, bitty thing. When I say it (at the news conference), that's when everybody is going to know it." Campbell had 35 catches for 817 yards and 12 interceptions last season.

It's suppose to be 12 touchdowns and not interceptions.

Hopefully SC can come up with some big commitments early this year to start off with a resounding bang.

WB or anyone:
Do you have an information that may tell us which way Todd Campbell and Quintin Richardson are leaning? I'd love to get either of these guys.

. . . which is exactly why I already "fixed the glitch". I said I got his first name wrong a few posts after the original. Always keep me on my toes, though. Thanks.

I don't have any concrete information. However, I see Campbell as a Vol and Richardson as a Gamecock.

There was a family member trying to get Quintin away from South Carolina. Supposedly, his grandfather had some sort of land dispute with the university many years ago. His grandfather still has some hard feelings concerning it. That's where Klimpsen came in, and a lot of the signs still point to Klimpsen. For one, he said he made up his mind to go ahead make his announcement on Friday while he was still at Klimpsen. However, he got to Klimpsen with only 10 minutes left in the scrimage, so I don't know if that's much time to see what all the offense does. He did spend some good time with Willy Korn, Tammy, and Fat Brad, but it sounds like his decision was already made to go ahead and make an announcement. Richardson has said numerous times recently this week that this choice is all about him, and no one else will influence him. This leads me to believe that all of the stuff with his grandfather's dispute has been laid to rest.

Want a guess? He has already made a silent commitment to the Gamecocks.

Want something concrete? I don't have it.

It seems us Clemson fans were wrong. Steve is indeed an honest and humble man, he has conceded that we own Williams Brice Stadium. So he has graciously gone ahead and painted our Paw on it. This way we feel more welcome in our home away from home.

Hey everybody I know that we have all said Brantly is not even looking at SC but just to kinda stir up trouble I found this and figured I should post it.

There has been a large amount of speculation with regards to Brantley and South Carolina. Spurrier was the elder Brantley's quarterback coach for one year at UF and Bell was a graduate assistant under Spurrier after he completed his Gators playing career. Spurrier's offense also fits Brantley like a glove and the Gamecocks are aiming to sign a big-time quarterback in this year's class. Also, the younger Brantley was born in Columbia, S.C., and there are many family connections to the Palmetto State. As recently as last week, two separate sources indicated that Brantley to South Carolina was a strong possibility, one even claiming that it was a "done deal." There are very strong indications that those sources, however, proved to be incorrect. Not one source that is actually close to Brantley or his family ever even mentioned South Carolina in his top three. The Gamecocks may have been players for Brantley, but they were more "in the picture" than "strongly in the picture" at least publicly. At this point, the South Carolina program simply cannot offer what the others can in terms of prestige and facilities, even with Spurrier on campus. Still, while it would be a shock for Brantley to announce for Carolina, the Gamecocks have to be mentioned as contenders. (SOURCE: rivals100.com)
