I doubt we are going to get Geathers or Watson. I thought USC was recruiting Watson hard, but I guess not. We are getting killed in the in-state recruting. Next year if we don't recruting better than Clemson in-state it's going to kill us. There are going to be so many good players in South Carolina next year.

Auburn is trying very hard to pull Patterson out of state.
Good luck though.....

I think if we get Patterson and keep Paulk then we got the instate players we needed. Geathers would be nice but I don't think he was every seriously looking at us so him not being obtained is okay, I am sure in the future we won't have problems getting the players that we need to come here.

I know!! and I hate Auburn for that!!! But they are a great school so ofcourse they are going to get good players to come there. Since Patterson is visiting last (Jan 28), I think they land him. Everyone who visits AU last, commits to them.
This list was compiled from myself and from the USC page at Scout.com (Rivals 100) indicates that the player has been placed on Rivals' preseason Top 100 list. Listings with (Hot100) indicate that player made one of Scout's regional Hot 100 lists. Names highlighted in BLUE have scheduled a visit.

We need lots of help after last nights game. As soon as the three senior offensive linemen went down with injuries the whole game changed and we were so sorry that it was painful. The defense let us down big also. Someone needs to teach these kids how to tackle. On a positive note, the freshmen had a HUGE, I repeat HUGE, day yesterday. Rice, Davis, Sapp, Banag, and Walker all had big contributions. Heres to the future! COME TO SC LINEMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Phil Kornblut

If I do make a decision with them, I probably will commit while Im on my visit or soon after. Hail is also scheduled to visit Bowling Green January 13th and Georgia Tech January 20th.

 Patterson Alters Plans Again
By Phil Kornblut
Indications last week were that Richland Northeast DE Adam Patterson (6-3 260) would set an official visit with USC instead of making only an unofficial visit. But Patterson said over the weekend he will stick with his original plans of an unofficial visit to USC and five other official visits. I talked to (USC recruiter) coach Nix and decided to make it an unofficial visit, Patterson said. It will be whenever. Ill call them and tell them Im coming to visit. Patterson will visit Michigan this weekend, Tennessee on the 13th, NC State on the 20th and Auburn on the 27th. Patterson will also visit Penn State, and he thinks that will take place over the Martin Luther King Holiday.

Prochak Commits To USC
By Phil Kornblut
QB & DB Nick Prochak (6-3 212) of Spartanburg High school said Sunday night he has committed to USC. Prochak said he made his commitment Saturday night. Prochak also had offers from Clemson, Vanderbilt, Duke and Furman. This season Prochak passed for 1700 yards and 17 touchdowns. But he played safety in the Shrine Bowl and is primarily projected for that position though USC will give him an early shot at quarterback.

USC Pulls Even For Norwood
By Phil Kornblut
LB Eric Norwood (6-2 245) of Acworth, GA committed to Oklahoma State after an official visit to Stillwater in late October, but that commitment no longer stands. "I guess you could say Oklahoma State and South Carolina are tied," Norwood said Sunday night. "When I went to South Carolina for my unofficial visit, I liked it a lot. Plus, I see what direction they are headed. They are going to be a winning team." Norwood feels so good about the Gamecocks right now there's a possibility he could commit to them when head coach Steve Spurrier and assistant Ty Nix make their in home visit Wednesday night. But, before the Gamecocks get there, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gandy will have his in home meeting with Norwood Monday night. And Southern Miss will be in Tuesday. By the way, Norwood played last week in the Georgia North-South All Star Game and recorded 6 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 quarterback pressures and 1 forced fumble. :D

USC Moving In On Alabama Lineman
By Phil Kornblut
OL Heath Batchelor (6-7 290) of Haleyville, AL has been committed to Georgia Tech since October and remains so, but he is beginning to look at other options, including USC. Batchelor said the Gamecocks have been showing serious interest and he talked Sunday night with recruiter Ron Cooper who plans to visit him at school once it starts back January 10th. Batchelor said he hopes to set an official visit with the Gamecocks. Arkansas recently offered and he will visit there January 20th. He has visited Georgia Tech. Batchelor said Georgia Tech's offensive line coach will visit him Wednesday and Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt will be in on Friday.

Jones Sets USC Visit Date
By Phil Kornblut
DB Jake Jones (6-1 180) of Mountain Brook AL has tentatively scheduled an official visit to USC for January 20th. The trip is tentative, according to his coach and father, former Alabama receiver Joey Jones, only because he will visit Alabama January 13th, and things could end right there. "He'll see how his visit goes with Alabama," Coach Jones said. "If he wants to go further, he'll call coach Spurrier back and make that visit. There's not any pressure on him to go there (Alabama). Certainly, not because I played there. But three kids in his class he is friends with are committed to Alabama. I think he is flattered to hear from coach Spurrier and is certainly thinking hard about it." Jones has already visited LSU and Vanderbilt.

He rushed 24 times for 402 yards (16.7 yds/carry) in one game!!! He scored on runs from 83,72,82 yards! It's not like this guy plays aginst crappy schools. We all know Florida has some of the best talent in the country. He plays at Chamberlin High, a 5A school.

"He currently lists Miami, South Carolina and Ohio State as his favorites, but he also hears a lot from schools like Florida and Florida State. Both Miami and Ohio State have signed premier backs this off-season, but Carolina has him #1 on their board. He wants to come in and make an impact right away, and his best shot for that could be with the Gamecocks." -- That could be a huge factor. Plus Miami hasnt invited him for their big recruting weekend while USC has.

By Phil Kornblut
DL L.T. Walker (6-4 303) of Wynne, AR is up in the air about a possible visit to USC. Walker had planned to visit the Gamecocks this month but has not heard from them since his recruiter, Madre Hill, was dismissed. Walker has visited Ole Miss and Louisville. He will visit Memphis January 13th and Tennessee on the 20th. Walker said he would be interested in checking out USC if contacted again. He does not have a favorite.

We need to contact Walker. He is a big boy and a linemen which is something that we seriously need. I hate to see us forget these players just because of coaching changes. But I am happy to see players doing their best to try to get the SC coaches attention which means we are on the way to getting up their in the football heirarchy.

This guy is a relative unknown because he moved to Florida from Alaska & they first had him out at WR before moving him to RB where he promptly WENT OFF. I hope he's a priority of ours, especially given that one of his frontrunners (Miami, FL) just had a major overhaul to their coaching staff.
Neo, you know about how well we stand with Kylan Robinson? His size is ideal and it's obvious he's got big play ability. Think we got a shot at him or no?

USC Looking Good For Norwood
By Phil Kornblut
LB Eric Norwood (6-2 245) of Acworth, GA had an in home visit with Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gandy Monday night. Norwood, a former Cowboy commitment, said the meeting went well. "He talked to my parents mainly," he said. "He wanted to visit with them. He's anticipating I'm gong there but they know I'm looking at South Carolina real hard." USC assistants Ty Nix and Ron Cooper will visit Norwood Wednesday night. USC head coach Steve Spurrier originally was coming in but he will visit at a later date. Norwood is scheduled to visit USC January 13th and said there's a good possibility he'll commit to the Gamecocks on the visit. Norwood said he won't pull the trigger Wednesday night when Nix and Cooper are in. "Coach Nix would rather me do it on my visit," he said. "He wants me to meet coach Spurrier." :D

Spurrier Visits Patterson
By Phil Kornblut
USC head coach Steve Spurrier and assistant Ty Nix made an in home visit with Richland Northeast DE Adam Patterson (6-3 260) Monday night. Patterson was not available for comment but according to his mother, the visit went well. However, nothing changed with Patterson regarding his visiting plans. He will still make an unofficial visit to USC at some point this month and will take five other official visits. He will go to MIchigan this weekend followed by Tennessee, Penn State, NC State and Auburn.

By Phil Kornblut
The death of a close family friend has forced WR Tim Hawthorne (6-3 205) of Homewood, AL to rethink his visiting schedule for January. Hawthorne was going to take an unofficial visit to Alabama this weekend but this weekend is not available. He's now looking at visiting Alabama January 13th, which was the weekend he was going to visit USC. He might have to take a mid week visit to USC. He is scheduled to visit Florida January 20th. And he's scheduled to visit Louisville on the 27th but that one could change. Hawthorne has visited Georgia and Auburn. Hawthorne talked by phone with USC recruiter Ron Cooper Monday.

Patterson Enoys Spurrier Visit
By Phil Kornblut
USC head coach Steve Spurrier made his in home visit with Richland Northeast DE Adam Patterson (6-3 260) Monday night. USC assistant Ty Nix also participated in the meeting. "It went real great," Patterson said. "We had a real nice talk about the future of South Carolina and his plans for me if I were to come to that school. We had a real good chance for my parents to get to know them. Everything went great." Patterson said the meeting lasted at an ahour and a half. Patterson will not take an official visit to USC but he says that's not a factor. He plans to treat his unofficial visit like an official visit. "I may actually try to work it out where it's not an official but it's like one," he said. "I'll hang out with a player and tour the school." Patterson said he should have a date for his unofficial visit to USC in the next day or two. Tonight, Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer will make his in home visit. Auburn will be in on Wednesday and Chuck Amato of NC State comes in on Thursday. Patterson will visit Michigan this weekend followed by Tennessee, Penn State, NC State and Auburn.

I just hope the schools Paulk is visiting don't change is mind because all, I repeat ALL, of our linebackers were seniors (excepting Lindsey) but we need some players there. Sapp and Banag could both do well there and if they move Walker back there he could also do well, but he might be better suited for DE, who knows. Anyhow, this year the more linemen the merrier, and from now on I think we need to get two or three per class so we don't have this problem again!!!

Patterson is going to be up in the air.I don't like his posturing with USC this year.USC went from favorite durring spring practice to I'll come to visit when I want to.

Campbell Decision Coming
By Phil Kornblut

He will trip to USC January 13th and by the 15th he wants to make a commitment. Campbell said the decision will come down to the Gamecocks and Cardinals. USC recruiter Ty Nix is scheduled to watch Campbell play basketball Wednesday and talk to his mother while there. Campbell is scheduled to visit Memphis January 20th and Baylor on the 27th. By the way, Campbell is a friend of LB Eric Norwood of Acworth, GA and said Norwood has told him he plans to commit to USC. The two played together in the recent North-South All Star game.

He said the reason he told Phil Kornblut we were "slipping" with him was a misunderstanding. He wasn't aware of the rules during recruiting "dead periods". Coaches can only have limited contact with recruits and Dekoda took it as us "dissing" him. He said Ty Nix straightened it all out. I think we still have a great shot at landing him, although F$U offered the other night and he said he has always been a huge F$U fan.

Les, I agree that LB Mike West is coming back. He was a good player but what he was supposedly good at he never really impressed me; pass coverage. If he fixes that then he will be much improved otherwise he is just wasting his speed and talent.

The players that really care about playing and that want to play in their first years will be the ones coming to USC. They players who wanna ride the bench will go to places that have a lot of depth. It would be use-less for Mon Williams to go to UF, because like you said bantum rooster, they have good RB coming in and they already have a couple of good RB's there.

Our backfield ain't the thinnest in the world either but we could absolutely use more bodies to compete for time back there. Mike Davis is going to be solid for us for the next three years, Bobby Wallace will show he can do more than he was able to this year, Cory Boyd'll be back with two years left to play & don't forget Albert Ashcraft & Taylor Rank....we have some players back there so I'm not real worried whether we sign a top-notch recruit this class or not.
That being said, if we do sign a RB, I'm hoping for Kylan Robinson myself just cuz I like his size, speed and the number 402. :)
Mike Davis is fine for the next few years. He will have 1,000 yds next year easy (barring injury), with the 12 game schedule and bowl game, he'll have around 1,070, write it down. 666 yds rushing during his freshman campaign isn't bad considering he didn't get a whole lot of carries, the OL playing like crap the 1st half, and splitting time with Turman and Wallace. Take that into consideration and we're sitting pretty with Davis, although yeah, the more bodies we recruit the better, you never know about offseasons or injuries...

Don't forget Corey Boyd. Remember when he and Sommers were ahead of Kenny Irons on the depth chart? 01-07-2006, 12:37 PM
One thing is certain, Spurrier and Gillespie can promise Mon Williams a fair shot at the starting running back position. We have a lot of bodies there, and most of them are solid. I think it's fair to say that right now we don't know who our running back is going to be in the season opener. Boyd hasn't played a year and will have to compete for a shot, MD and BW are sophomores, who both improved each game, Taylor Rank hasn't played a down on offense, and I think Mon Williams and/or Kylan Robinson can compete for ridiculously significant playing time, if not the starting roll. They won't get that if they go anywhere else on their list.

01-07-2006, 12:48 PM
I just got word that Mon Williams missed his flight last night. He showed up late to the airport. Thus, he will not be visiting us this weekend. The coaches are going to try to bring him in on a later weekend. If you ask me, I don't like the way this sounds. His interest in us seems fake, and I don't want this kid if I can't take our visit seriously.
Also, I just found out that Kylan Robinson is being recruited by Miami as a fullback, which, in my opinion, will help our chances. He hasn't been to any of the campuses he is chosing from. If you look at some of the magic Spurrier pulled on the official visits last year, this is another plus for us.

I can only give you a bunch of hear say, but this guy seems to have a good source. His information seems to be pretty accurate. Here are his quotes from earlier today.
Mon williams didn't make the flight, and word is we may not even pursue him anymore.
Dekota Watson, from someone close to the situation, is really impressed, and my source seems to think he might possibly commit. this would be great news.
Chris Hail, not alot of talk about him, other than he's having a good time, and is projected to commit tomorrow, and would be a very good pick-up because he is a blazer. He won the 100 meters with a 10.48 and could be a very good corner. He's playing wide receiver this year, but we're looking more at Defense for him.

Good news, I like the sound of this kid. He's fast, he's versatile and he's smart which is alwayz good. Considering the fact that we're staring at the possibility (probability?) of losing two of our top DB's, we're gonna need some athletes to make plays for us.

The Hail committment is big because I think he can work on his high school teammate, Brandon Isom. He said he likes the chances that Isom will end up here.

Cory Boyd is busting his tail and has made a complete 180 since his suspension. He will be our #1 guy in the fall, I would think regardless of the potential recruits. Ashcraft will not be bak next season. He has decided to transfer (from a very reliable source). We could use a good rb, but its not a must. This class needs to be heavy, literally, on both sides of the line. I would expect our class to not rank as highly in terms of "stars" compared to the actual value that it has to our depth. We need big boys. Lineman are generally not ranked as highly as the more athletic positions, so dont read much into the class rankings. We are getting what we need and I think you all will be very pleased come fall with who we sign this year.
We have some good athletes and some great returning talent. I think C Thomas, OJ M, Mike Davis, K Mckinley, and of course S Rice will shine next season. Dont forget they will all be sophs, and of course OJ will be a rsfresh. At this point I personally just hope that someone steps up at the QB spot.
With that said I do like our chances with C Thomas, Isom, Norwood, Patterson, and possibly Watson and Robinson. Not very familiar with the latter twos status' but on paper it looks like it ould potentially shape up to satisfy our needs

USC Leads For Florida Teammates
By Phil Kornblut
USC is the clear, big leader for Lake Worth, FL teammates DL Kenrick Ellis (6-5 335) and DE Markus White (6-4 225) according to Leonard High School assistant coach Allen Williams. "The fact they would be able to play for a legend," Williams gave as a major reason the Gamecocks lead. "Coach Spurrier, all his players are pretty successful in the NFL. They looked at the depth chart its favorable to both of them." Ellis has visited Tennessee and Rutgers. He has an county all star game this coming weekend. He will visit Michigan on the 20th and USC on the 27th. "The deciding factor is going to be being in a position where he feels like he will be at home," Williams said. "He's looking for that home away from home feeling." This season Ellis had 67 tackles with 13 for losses and 7 sacks. White had 70 tackles with 15 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 interception return for a touchdown. He has visited Rutgers and will play in the county all star game this coming weekend. He will visit Clemson January 20th and USC on the 27th. Williams said White already has his mind made up for the Gamecocks but USC isn't ready to take a commitment until they do a further evaluation of his transcript.
Hopefully we'll at least get Ellis....he's HUGE and we could definitely use him next year with Doughty, unless Hall improves a lot during the offseason.
Also Mon Williams missed his flight and it doesn't sound too likely that he'll make time for another visit. He does have a free weekend at the end of the month though, so maybe we can convince him to come in then.

Hawthorne Hoping To Visit USC
By Phil Kornblut
If he can get it worked out so that he can get back home at a reasonable hour on Sunday night, WR Tim Hawthorne (6-3 205) of Homewood, AL plans to set an official visit with USC for January 13th. "I'm trying to get to South Carolina on the 13th," Hawthorne said. "I want to go so bad. If I don't go there, I'm not going anywhere. "It has to get worked out with my parents. They don't want be to get back real late. They don't want me to miss school. I'm trying to get there the best way I can." Hawthorne has visited Georgia and Auburn. He will visit Florida January 20th and Louisville on the 27th. He does not claim a favorite.
We very well may not get this kid, but at least we now know for sure that he's seriously considering us....I was somewhat skeptical before.
I thought Hawthorne had to re-schedule his official for 1/13 and was going to visit mid-week this week..? Am I confusing him with someone else? Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to have him come in with the rest but I thought he was going elsewhere this weekend & made us a mid-week visit to squeeze it in.
what do i know though...i live in Michigan! lol :D

Yeah, Ellis's size is impressive and stands out as a huge need for us, especially in stopping the run.
As for Mon...I think we lost our shot with him when we fired Madre Hill & if he's too ignorant to get on a plane, take a free trip to a rising SEC school & take the opportunity to meet a legend like Steve Spurrier....he can stay in the dust bowl for all I care. I, for one, would rather have Kylan Robinson. 402 is

I was just told by someone that Antonio Heffner is, indeed, transfering to Tennessee State. Don't confuse that with Middle Tennessee State. Also, Albert Ashcraft is transfering to Western Carolina. It's a good move for both of them. I don't see how they could possibly be favoring our depth charts right now.
I post this on the recruiting thread because it opens up two more scholarships for us to give. The NCAA reduced the amount of scholarships we can have to 83 this year, and this really should not hinder us in being able to sign 25 incoming freshmen on February 1st.
Ahhhhhh, the first day of the semester. I just got out of a nonsense computers class, and I unfortunately still have physics and biochemistry to go. Man, I cannot wait for signing day.

I also meant to say that there is a good chance for Captain Munnerlyn to commit on his visit on Saturday. He has offers from West Virginia, South Carolina, and Kansas State. We are his clear-cut favorite. This is a kid who has slipped through recruiting, but he is a speed demon. His official 40 time is 4.4, and it is my understanding that he has remarkable 100 yard dash times.
I was told that both he and Chris Hail, who committed this past Sunday morning, favor the situation here because we are losing some DB's to the NFL. If this is true, then it sounds like our coaches are telling recruits that Ko and JJ are gone. If you haven't noticed on the "Ko will go" thread, someone said JJ is in the northeast with a trainer, and Ko plans to join him up there shortly, so I don't doubt that Spurrier and Company used such tactics on our DB targets.
Just because JJ and Ko are gone, don't look for us to go after any DB's any harder than we were. Don't forget we signed an redshirted several this past year.
Also, don't forget to come to the Georgia game this weekend. Whether you like Odom or not (I have lost interest in him), we need your voices this weekend. BIG RECRUITING WEEKEND!

Have you seen the visitor list on Gamecock Central. That is a strong list of recruits. I hope SOS does his magic this weekend.I think SOS learned the speed of the NFL game and recruits accordingly. I don't think he pays that much of attention to how they rank at such a young age. However, this is going to be a strong class for USC.

This will be a stong class. We cannot get worked out with the amount of stars each kid has. This class will be adressing a lot of need. Just because we aren't getting several offensive and defensive skill players in this class doesn't make this a bad class. We need beef, and we are going to get it. This is a very important class.
By the way, Ko and JJ have made it official.

Interesting news on Heffner, WB. I did not see that one coming. So in one day, we lose Lindsey, Heffner, Ko, and Joseph. Funny that none of those losses bother me except that I am sorry that Lindsey is struggling academically. The reason that this does not bother me is that as space opens up, Spurrier knows how to fill it. We have an impressive list of recruits. I look forward to 2006, but I can't wait for 2007!

Florida DB To Visit USC
By Phil Kornblut
DB Chris Duvalt (5-10 165) of Lakeland, FL has set an official visit with USC for January 15th and will stay through the MLK Holiday. Duvalt visited Ohio over the weekend. He will visit West Virginia January 13th followed by USC, Illinois on the 20th and Southern Miss on the 27th. Duvalt played in the Florida North-South game last month.

I think Lindsey is a loss because he is the only player with alot of experience for the linebacker position. I know the freshmen played some, but Lindsey played alot so his loss is pretty big. I am worried about our already suspect defense. I am not sure if we will do much better next year.

It would be awesome if C.J. Barber signs with us. It is very likely he will. He committed to us in 2004 but was academically ileligible. He was a 4-star recruit back in 2004 and he is also from Rock Hill but from the other school (North Western). I saw this guy play in high school and he was a beast, he is fast and can hit HARD. He would be a good fit to replace Ko Simpson.

Norwood Ready To Join Gamecocks
By Phil Kornblut
LB Eric Norwood (6-2 245) of Acworth, GA has been favoring USC for a few weeks, and this weekend he plans to take the next step and formally commit to the Gamecocks. "That's my plan," he said Monday night. Ty Nix recruits Norwood for USC, and while Norwood hasn't done the "secret commitment" thing with him, the Gamecock recruiter knows his thinking. "He knows I am going to commit," Norwood said. "We've already discussed it. He'd rather me meet the rest of the coaching staff (before commiting.) I talked to coach Spurrier this weekend. I told him what I intended on doing on my visit. He was kind of shocked." Norwood will be part of what should be a major commitment haul of metro Atlanta players for USC. One has already commitment and at last three others favor the Gamecocks or have them among their favorites.

Big weekend for Spurrier, South Carolina
This weekend marks the biggest recruiting weekend during the tenure of Steve Spurrier at South Carolina.
The Gamecocks are scheduled to play host to 19 official visitors, including Rivals100 running back Kylan Robinson and Rivals100 offensive tackle Daron Rose.
The offensive line is a major position of need for South Carolina. Rose, along with North Carolina prospects Hutch Eckerson and Pierre Andrews, Tennessee prospect Mike Berry and Alabama prospect Heath Batchelor will all be on campus.
Batchelor is committed to Georgia Tech, but recently set up visits with Carolina and Arkansas.
Gamecocks defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix has looked to the metro Atlanta area and the state of Florida for help on his defensive line.
Defensive ends Eric Norwod and Terrence Campbell and tackles Byron Isom and Olufemi Ajiboye all hail from the Atlanta area while end Audie Augustine and tackle Reggie Odom hail from Florida.
N.C. State defensive tackle commit Gavin Smith of Raleigh, N.C., also will visit.
Spurrier's offensive scheme always has room for wide receivers and two key targets, with a third one possible, will be on campus this weekend. Louisiana wide receiver Jared Mitchell and Georgia wide receiver Kendrick Lewis are scheduled to visit while Rivals100 selection Tim Hawthorne is also a potential visitor.

Byron Isom, high school teammate of Gamecock commit Chris Hail, will be here on January 13th. He is favoring Auburn 60/40 over us. He has another teammate committed to Auburn. I can't remember if I included information about Markus White in any of the Kenrick Ellis posts I have made. He is a relatively new name and for good reason. White, a high school teammate of Ellis, has only been playing football for one season. He is projected as a weakside defensive end and supposedly has some of the best measurables of any of our recruits. At 6'4" 225 pounds, he boasts a 4.65 40 yard dash time, a 285 pound bench mark, and a 315 pound squat max. He also has a 35 inch verticle leap, which is not too shabby. We have not offered, but he will be here on January 20th with Ellis and Ole Miss commit Emmanuel Cook. White will visit Clemson the next weekend. His only listed offers are from Rutgers and Iowa. He has visited Rutgers and has not scheduled a visit with the Hawkeyes.
This kid certainly sounds like a stellar athlete. He has played basketball all of his life, and that has made him light on his feet. The fact that he has only played football for one year makes him an obvious candidate for a redshirt, and his athletic ability makes me very excited about what he will be capable if he decides to sign with the garnet and black. Clearly, he needs to bulk up and add strength, but this is a name we need to be very mindful of. Whenever a pure athlete is put at defensive end, everyone needs to be paying close attention because special things can and will happen.

Here is an article off of rivals on what we have to do to get isom.
Tony Morrell
GamecockCentral.com Recruiting Analyst
Lovejoy (Ga.) defensive lineman Byron Isom will take his final official visit of the recruiting process this weekend when he travels to Columbia, S.C., to see how the South Carolina Gamecocks compare to the Auburn Tigers. His recruiters from both schools visited with him recently.
Byron Isom says it's "60/40 Auburn" heading into this weekend.
"Coach (Hugh) Nall from Auburn and Coach (Tyrone) Nix from South Carolina came to see me last week," the 6-foot-2, 255-pound Isom said. "Coach Nall really doesn't have to sell Auburn because Auburn sells itself. He just told me he hopes I have a good time at South Carolina, but not too good a time, and that I come back knowing Auburn is the place for me."
Isom, who bench presses 355 pounds, had a different type conversation with Nix.
"Coach Nix just told me there's a great chance for me to come in and play on the defensive line, and that he's recruiting me strictly as a defensive lineman," Isom said. "Auburn has said I may play on the offensive line if defensive line didn't work out. Coach Nix also talked to me a lot about the program they're building at South Carolina, and it sounds like it would be fun to be a part of. He also told me we're going to the South Carolina basketball game against Georgia, so I'm looking forward to that."
Isom had a great official visit to Auburn last month, and is looking forward to seeing South Carolina as well.
"I'm just ready to finally compare the two schools, and see which one fits me better. I loved Auburn, but it was my first visit, and I don't really have anything to compare it to. I liked South Carolina a lot when I went to their game, so I just want to learn a lot more."
Isom will be looking closely at one major part of the Gamecock program.
"I want to look at the setting, and just see how I feel around everything and around all the people," he said. "I want to really feel like it's a place where I'll fit in and be completely comfortable. It's going to come down to whether I get a better feeling at South Carolina than I did at Auburn."
Isom also is in the unique position of having a high school teammate committed to each of his finalists.
"I've known Chris (Hail) longer than Mario (Fannin), but I've really gotten closer to Mario during this recruiting process, so I'd say it's about equal," he said. "Me and Chris worked out together today, and he had his (South) Carolina jacket on and was all over me. Same with Mario, he's been working me hard for Auburn."
Isom doesn't anticipate the process dragging on much past his visit this weekend.
"Well, I've told myself I'm not going to get caught up in everything and commit to South Carolina no matter how good the visit goes," he said. "I'm going to take the visit, and then come home and think real hard about it to figure out which one fits me better. My mom and my head coach are two people that I will really look to to help me make this decision."
To land Isom, the Gamecocks will have to overcome an Auburn lead.
"The main reason Auburn leads is because I've taken that visit already. I'd say it's 60/40 Auburn right now, so South Carolina will have to be that much better than Auburn for me to choose them."

Another little note of interest. Patterson has become very close to our coach Price and the game is not over for his services although you guys do lead.

No arguement here. I am just trying to find out any inside info from your part of the country. Thanks for sharing auburn.com insight. However, rivals seems to be inconsistent in thier reports. I guess they lean to what ever school that paticular following is. It's all about money it appears to some of these sites. I just want accurate info one way or the other.

I have not seen it posted here yet, but we may be about to get help at cornerback hopefully. Chris Duvalt is a 4 star cornerback from Lakeland, Fla., and is coming for an official visit. He is a four star that runs a 4.38 40. I WANT HIM!!!!

on rivals there is an article about patterson and his Michigan visit. said it exceeded his expectations and it has left him comparing the other schools he visits to Michigan.
actually here is the quote from the article......
With official visits to Tennessee (Jan. 13), NC State (Jan. 20) and Auburn (Jan. 27) still slated to be taken this month, Patterson said the Wolverines are sitting in a very good position.
"They set themselves to the point where now I am comparing schools to them, which is big," he stated.

i think we have a good shot at him to be honest with you. the only thing we have working against us is we are the only school on his list of schools that has talked to him about playing reciever. he said in an article on rivals that he really wants to just play corner. but i believe with Ko and JJ leaving early along with all of our Past DB going to the NFL we have a very good shot at him. he also was impressed with our season we had this year. but as of right now West Virginia and Illinois are his favorites. so with a good Visit this weekend i do believe we have a very good shot at him being a gamecock

Let me ask a question then if I might.
Did he take his USC visit before or after the Mich. visit?
If he took the USC one before the Mich. one then as a Gamecock fan I would be worried. Especially after the Mich. article that was posted here....

Patterson Firms Up USC Visit
By Conan Gasque
Richland Northeast DE Adam Patterson (6-3 260) has set an unofficial visit with USC for Monday, Jaunary 16, the prospect said today. He will go with his parents, and will treat the visit like an official visit. Patterson made an official visit this past weekend to Michigan, and will make an official visit to Tennessee this coming weekend, before visiting unofficially with the Gamecocks on Monday. Patterson's other scheduled official visits include N.C. State on January 20th and Auburn on January 27th. He said he would also like to visit Penn State but is not sure when he will go. Patterson has over 20 offers and currently has no leader.

GamecockCentral.com Recruiting Analyst
West Covina (Calif.) South Hills punter Kyle Peterson took part in a recent national all-star game in San Antonio, Texas, and said it was an experience he won't soon forget.
Steve Spurrier and his staff are trying to lure Kyle Peterson across the country.
"It was awesome," the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Peterson said. "Just to be on a team with all of those great athletes and having a chance to get to know them was awesome. I could have been sitting right beside the next Reggie Bush, so that was very cool. It was just a great, great experience all the way around."
On the recruiting front, Peterson is contemplating one more official visit.
"My parents and I have been talking about taking a visit to South Carolina. I have the Chris Sailer kicking competition this coming weekend, so if I visit them it would probably be on January 20th."
Peterson is attracted to multiple aspects of the Gamecock program.
"From everything I've seen and heard, it's like football is king in that part of the country, and that they really have a rabid fan base," he said. "It seems like it would be a great football atmosphere to play in, so that would be a lot of fun if I went there. Coach (Fred) Chatham has also been staying in touch with me on a regular basis."
Peterson, who's also considering offers from Fresno State and UTEP, will determine which school is the best fit for him based on several factors.
"I really need to be able to picture myself fitting in wherever I go. I just want to make sure I'll be completely comfortable. I also want to attend a school with top-notch academics. I'd like to be an athletic trainer, so I'll be looking for a great sports medicine school. I also want to play for a good football program."
Peterson remains wide open in his college choice.
"I don't really have a favorite as of yet," he said. "I may go ahead and make a decision when I get home from the kicking competition if I feel like I'm ready to do it. If not, I'll wait it out."

Captain Munnerlyn, an athletic 5-foot-11, 182-pound defensive back with offers from K-State, South Carolina and West Virginia. "I would say that South Carolina is my leader right now. It's possible that I could commit to them after I visit there, we'll have to wait and see," Munnerlyn said. "I've always wanted to play for them, and of course they've got Coach Spurrier," he added. "They graduated a lot of cornerbacks there this year, and I think I'd have a chance to play early if I went there possibly."
Honestly i dont care how many stars this kid is. but if he honestly Always wanted to play for us. the hell im happy to have him.

Ellis, Cook and white were all scheduled on the 27th. Ellis and Cook swithed dates a week or so ago and all three wanted to take there visit to SC together. so White moved his visit up so they could all three take there visit together. i hope there is something to this and we get all three. Ellis scored an 860 on his SAT the first time he took the test and was taking it a second time dec. 3rd. rivals said he has a 2.2 GPA and he would qualify if he scored a 950 on the SAT. because of some slide rule. this is all as of november so his Final GPA could go up or down it all depends on how his grades this semester ended up
wish it was that easy for me to get into USC. i had a 2.5 GPA and a 1010 on the SAT and i didnt get in. guess you have to be a Football player.

Cool deal, man. I hope to be in your shoes someday soon. I want to go to medical school here in Columbia. I take the MCAT in April, and I've already starting working on it. Unfortunately, Signing Day is the most important thing to me! Grrrrrr. . .I need to focus.
On the positive side, it is good to know that med students have time to keep up with important things. . .like recruiting. I can't wait to be in your shoes.

Jones Firms Up USC Visit Plans
By Phil Kornblut
LB A.J. Jones (6-2 195) of Tampa firmed up his plans to make an official visit to USC Wednesday. Jones had said Tuesday he probably would make the visit but wouldn't know for sure until Wednesday. "I'm looking forward to hanging out with my former teammates (OJ Murdoch and Stoney Woodson), Jones said. "I just want to see how it is, see how the academics are." Jones has visited Southern Cal, Alabama and Ohio State. He will visit Florida January 20th. If we could get this guy it would be huge for this weekend.
