I agree 100 percent Beeds. Neo has been extremely quiet this season and it his thread. In the past he has had some solid insight. If he is not posting some solid info from his "peeps" things must not be going to well. Although, I don't think we will get shut out this year by the top recruits. The glass is still half full.

Patterson Lines Up Visits
By Phil Kornblut
Richland Northeast DE Adam Patterson (6-3 260) has lined up four official visits for January. Patterson will visit Tennessee January 13th, Michigan January 16th, NC State January 20th and Auburn January 27th. Patterson said he might take a trip to Penn State as well. He will not set an official visit with USC. "I'll swing by USC in December or January and spend time with the coaches," Patterson said. "That will be like an official with me. I'm not going to leave USC out." Patterson said he does not have a favorite.
Now he's not coming for an official? Look at how flippantly he speaks of us too. We've lost him IMO. He's going to Auburn for his last visit. He'll wind there most likely.

While I dont feel as comfortable about Patterson as I had before, I still think we have a great shot at landing him. Why would he want to go camp out in a hotel room for two days 15 minutes from his house and burn up one of our official's? Im not worried about him not taking an official visit. Im a little bothered by the fact that he has opened his list back up and has some great schools on it. His best friend is coming to SC and all of his friends and family would be able to easily see all his games if he played his college career in Columbia. As far as the other recruits go we arent doing as well as I expected considering Spurrier is the SEC COTY and we finished 2nd in the East. We really need to focus on our lines and we've been doing that pretty well. While things arent going as well as I had hoped at this point Im not too worried about it yet.

I,m not going to  usc! I wont say we are out of the picture, but shows me he has no respect for USC or he has given a silent commit to sos. I would like to hear neos perspective. The jucos have become a big part of ourboard. This is new to sos, he has never been high on recruiting jucos. :(

The JUCO thing is just a way to fix the problem with the lines. It doesnt matter how good a HS lineman is its almost always gonna take them about a year before they can contribute the way you want them to on the field.

We're only recruiting JUCO O-lineman which makes sense. We have no depth on the o-line next year and must sign guys who are ready to play now. We are not recruiting any JUCO's other than ones on o-line and d-line. No skill positions or anything so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I hate to say this, but....
the hell with him if he doesn't want to play here. For every big time recruit (read=4/5 star), you can find two(read=2/3 star) that will work their asses off to be noticed and will pay dividends on the field. It's not all about the stars, ask Ko.
I think recruits forget that when you are the poop in your state, get in mind that you are a prize and take it for granted, that there are 49 other states with players who have a desire and drive to earn a free ride through school for busting hump on the field. So, if we can't get him, we'll find another one. SOS knows what he's doing and even if it's not a top 10-15-20-25 class, they will get the job done.
During the last 6 games, he may have realized that he has better athletes than he thought at some positions and is going after vacancies in other areas of the team.
Darth Visor will pull it out, and if doesn't, you can bet that he will get the most bang for his recruiting buck ;)

We are doing that. But it's a matter of numbers. We have to have at least 2 guys for the D-line and at least 3 guys for the O-line who are ready to play next year. We don't really have a choice.

I think so far beeds has done the best job this year.He has given an educated opinion on the regurgitation of kornbluts posts.Everything this year seems to come from PalmettoSports.com.Alot of our recruiting news never makes it to this board this year.I hope NEO has not gone to another site. If I'm not mistaken, Neo is in the middle of another move so that's probably where he's been lately...I just know he mentioned in another thread (this thread??) that he was taking his sat-dish down in preparation for his move so his abscence probably has nothing to do with how we are or aren't doing on the recruiting trail.
At any rate, I've been a little concerned myself on the lack of verbals but at the same time you have to think that's probably because it is still fairly early to be hitting panic buttons. Look at how that other USC school is doing thus far....you think they're going to fade away into nothingness just because they don't have as many verbals as Texas at this point? I sure don't...
Plus you have to keep in mind what our (Spurrier's) goals were from the very beginning of the year. 1) Win more than we lose & 2) make/win a bowl game. I've taken it that our coaching staff has fully committed themselves to preparing our boys for the Independence Bowl and a good showing there as it has been one of our goals. I think the priority in Spurrier's eyes is win that game, claim yet another goal accomplished and use that on the best recruits available, much like he did last year with just 71 days to work with.
I'm not worried, in Spurrier I trust. ;) We're going to land a solid class and we all knew we weren't going to getting the highest rated one anyway because our needs were linemen (both sides) and depth across the board. We win that bowl game, flash-recruit (for lack of a better term) down the stretch, steal a verbally committed or two from those bragging about their classes now and there Beeds, is where our 'foundation' starts. Seriously, how do you think it'd look if Spurrier & Co. spent the past month doing nothing but recruiting and we lose to MISSOURI on December 30? We'd lose as many as we had committed. Getting a win will provide momentum going into the all-important recruiting home stretch that runs from January 4 to February 2.
I'm not worried, in Spurrier I trust...he hasn't let us down yet (understatement alert!) & I don't see it happening now. Not to mention half our skill position guys were freshman/sophmore anyway. Cory Boyd will be coming back, hopefully with his head screwed on straight & we're solidly in the mix for Jimmy Clausen's services next year. We're going to be just fine.

Virginia ATH Sets USC Visit
By Phil Kornblut
ATH Brent Vinson (6-2 190) of Hampton, VA has set an official visit with USC for January 20th. He has visited Tennessee and will visit Virginia this weekend. He is also talking to Virginia Tech and Florida about official visits. Vinson said he does not have a favorite but does prefer the SEC. USC recruiter David Reaves was in for a visit last week. Vinson can play receiver, defensive back and running back, and he returns punts and kicks.
Hawthorne To Visit USC
By Phil Kornblut
USC head coach Steve Spurrier and assistant Ron Cooper made an in home visit with WR Tim Hawthorne (6-3 205) of Homewood, AL Tuesday night and came away with a promise for an official visit. Hawthorne was not available for comment due to homework duties, but his mother confirmed the official visit plan. "Oh, defnitely," Mrs. Hawthorne said about a USC visit. As for the visit from Spurrier, Mrs. Hawthorne said "it was very good. It was a very positive visit and very informative." The official visit date with USC has not been determined. Hawthorne will visit Georgia soon according to his mother. No other official visits have been determined. Other schools which have been in the home are Auburn, Mississippi State, Florida and Tennessee.

DB Gary Gray (5-10 165) of Richland Northeast has received a written offer from NC State. That's his second offer. He also has one from Auburn. USC and Kentucky are also close to offering Gray
Ajiboye To Take First Visit
By Phil Kornblut
DL Olufemi Ajiboye (6-2 275) of College Park, GA makes his first official visit this weekend to Illinois. He is also scheduled to visit East Carolina January 6th, USC on the 13th, Eastern Kentucky on the 20th and Virginia Tech on the 27th. He does not have a favorite. USC recruiter Ron Cooper is scheduled to visit Ajiboye Wednesday.

I think this recruiting class will be good. I think next years will be amazing. Already we are in the running for two preseason rival100s (Clausen and the RNE S/WR). I believe we will rock some peoples world. By the way, just a side note when I read the Missouri's coaches comments about USC he said he and his team were very pleased to be playing a "high caliber" team like USC. Whether he actaully believed that or was just pulling a T. Bowden I don't know.

Another thing, Mustain is throwing to 2 SEC caliber WRs and an SEC caliber TE. Stafford's receivers are like 5'10" and his top 2 receivers will be playing college lacrosse at some college in Denver. Not to mention, that Stafford plays some of the toughest competition around.

It would be unreal to play a high school game in front of 40,000 people. I can't imagine that. I thought we were doing good when we had like 2,000-3,000 people at the rivalry games. But 40,000, there wasn't even that many people in the town I don't think....

We play in front of I would say 3,000 when we are at home. However, when we go on the road we play in front of 500 at most.
It would be surreal to run out of the locker room to 40,000 fans.

My high school used to play in front of 10,000+ for the big games....but that's not 40k, hehe.

I agree omaha, I would take Mustain if he comes here, even if Stafford is better. Mustian is better then what our current commitment level of QB is, none! But that isn't a good reason to recruit since anyone would be better and we don't won't just anyone playing for us, we need a really good QB in order to make Spurrier's offense come alive.

Lets hope because he had a huge season this year in high school. I read somewhere he had like 130 tackles and 14 sacks or something like that. Those are huge numbers.
I think if he stays commited to us and enrolls, he has a great shot at being a starter because our LB crew is pretty weak at this point. We have Mike West who is good, but Hurley, and the other guy are seniors.

Reaves Visits Smelley
By Phil Kornblut
USC recruiter David Reaves met Thursday with QB Chris Smelley (6-3 210) of Tuscaloosa, AL. 'We had a good talk and hung out for a little wihle," Smelley said. Smelley will make his official visit to Louisville this weekend. His father and brother will accompany him on the trip. Smelley does not plan any more visits in December because of a school trip. He might schedule some in January. He has also visited USC and Ole MIss. Smelley said he is not close to a decision. "When it feels right," he said will be the time when he makes his commitment.

Three official visits which had been scheduled for USC this weekend have been rescheduled. OL MIke Berry (6-4 300) of Brentwood, TN will now visit January 13th. And twin LBs Jasper (6-3 255) and Capser (6-3 245) Brinkley of Georgia Military JC have not set a new date. The brothers made unofficial visits to USC for the Florida game and have a good feel for the school and might not set official visits. This will save two official visits for USC which has a reduced number this year as a result of NCAA penalties.

I think not scheduling kids that don't need to see the school again is a great way to save the offical visits for those that need them.

Smelley Sets Announcement
By Phil Kornblut
QB Chris Smelley of Tuscaloosa, AL announced Friday he will reveal his college decision this Sunday. He has scheduled a news conference for 4:00 PM Eastern time. Smelley is making an official visit to Louisville this weekend. He has also visited USC and Ole Miss. USC recruiter David Reaves met with Smelley Thursday and USC appears to be in strong shape to land his commitment.
Paulk To Make Two Visits
By Phil Kornblut
USC commitment LB Rodney Paulk of Richland Northeast remains firmly committed to the Gamecocks, but he will take an official visit to Virginia Tech according to his coach Jay Frye. Paulk has scheduled his Blacksburg visit for January 16th. He is scheduled to visit USC January 13th. Meantime, RNE defensive back Calvin Harrison, a Kentucky commitment, said Friday he likely will set up visits to Indiana and Wake Forest along with Kentucky.

So it is ok for Spurrier to go after Hannah last year when he was committed to VT but it is not ok for Beamer to go after a USC commit this year?

I don't have a problem with Beamer going after Paulk, just like I didn't have a problem with Spurrier going after Hannah last year. However, what is humorous is that Beamer whined about Spurrier getting Hannah after he had verbally commited to VT last year. But then Beamer turns around and tries to do the same thing this year. It's like Beamer's saying that it's wrong and he's above doing that. Then he goes and does the same thing. That is the perfect definition of a hypocrite in my book. If he gets Paulk to commit to VT, I doubt you'll hear Spurrier say anything about it (unless it's a humorous jab at Beamer for whining about last year and then turning around and doing the same thing this year). Recruits change their minds all the time after making verbals. This type of thing goes on all the time in college recruiting (until a player officially signs that letter of intent).

I don't have a problem with him looking around. If he really wants to come to SC he will, if he doesn't, he won't. It's as simple as that. Plus, I personally believe that our school offers the best for any football athlete so I believe he will see that, if not, then well, he won't be a Gamecock. It will be okay. But I do wish for him to stay because he obviously has alot of talent and the work ethic to get better and better.

Yeah I read somewhere that he's definitely favoring USC at the moment, but Penn State is in good position to take the lead if his visit goes well since it's by far closer to his home. The same article also said, however, that if he comes out of this visit with USC still in the lead it wouldn't be that big of a deal for him to move away from home.

I'm going to go ahead and say it now.....look for this recruiting class to be the one that defines Spurriers tenure at SC......this one is the one where it will all start and three years from now the analysts will look back and say it was this class, the one that the so-called experts ( Scout, rivals.etc. ) did not rank as high as Tenn., So Cal, UGA, Fla, etc..... but beyond what the experts said, he made them into champions, he say in them championship caliber players. He went after the ones he wanted and not necessarily the ones that the experts said were the best, but the ones that would fit into his system the best, the ones he felt were the best. It starts with the front five, which he is building with this class. He already has a couple playmakers that will be seniors in three years ( as long as they stay and don't jump to the NFL ). Times are good for the Gamecock Nation.

I agree that this class will be solid. But I think next years class will be the one that is amazing and one that will be solid. By then most of the team will be Spurriers team (I am counting them being apart of the team then) and his system will be clicking far better with players that are hand picked to run his system.

QB Chris Smelley of Tuscaloosa, AL announced a commitment to USC Sunday afternoon. Smelley made his announcement at a news conference at his school. He picked the Gamecocks over offers from Ole Miss, Louisville, Tulane, LSU, Memphis, Oregon, Tennessee and NC State. "It was tough to tell the other coaches," Smelley said. "They understood. They wanted what was best for me." And Smelley said he might play baseball for the Gamecocks. "I talked to coach Spurrier about playing baseball and he told me that would be an option. I'm looking forward to playing both." Smelley is a catcher. Smelley passed for 4200 yards and 59 touchdowns this season with 6 interceptions.

In your opinion, why does usc only have 6 (or so?) verbals at this point? What's going on in Columbia?
Not a dig....but an honest question.
Why does SoCal only have 5? I guess they're not going to get any top notch recruits other than the 5 they have.
Seriously though, we only have 7 because we're not just throwing schollies out like candy anymore, first come first served, and we're not to the level where 4 star kids are going to throw themselves at our feet to fill our class early. In order to get mostly 4 and 3 star recruits we need to do a little more work to convince them that USC is for real and Spurrier is going to get it done. The Auburn and Bama losses surely must have put a hint of doubt into plenty of kids' minds, but then the UF victory opened the eyes of plenty of them back up.
We're going to end up grabbing at least a handful more 4 star kids by signing day and have almost all 3 stars to fill up the rest of the class....that's definitely an improvement over the numbers of 2 star kids we've ended up with in the past....though thank god for Ko.
If we end up with a recruiting class around 25th in the nation plenty of our rivals and media will say how disappointing this recruiting season was, and how maybe Spurrier just can't get it done afterall....but the truth is our name has been rattling off the tongue of more bluechip prospects this year than any year i've been following recruiting. it's just naive to think one year we're going to jump from solid recruiting to best of the best, just like it's naive to think not getting it done this year will mean there's no chance of it happening in the future. the fact that bluechippers are consistently thinking about us is a moral victory that will pay huge dividends in future classes.
i figure we'll end up signing at least 4 more four-star players and fill up the class with quality three star players. our final recruiting ranking will be around 20th like last year. the important thing is filling needs, moreso than getting a high ranking....and that's clearly been the focus of this class.

Three Favorites For McQueen
By Phil Kornblut
LB Alonzo McQueen (6-1 210) of Jacksonville, FL says USC, NC State and Central Florida are his current three favorites. He has visited NC State and will visit Central Florida January 6th and USC January 13th. He is considering Clemson and South Florida for his other visits. Rick Stockstill had been McQueen's recruiter for USC. McQueen said Stockstill called him Saturday and told him he was leaving for Middle Tennessee State. He's not sure who his new USC recruiter will be. He has talked to Steve Spurrier on the phone. Clemson recruiter Dabo Swinney might be in to see him this week. This season McQueen had 116 tackles with 6 sacks, 1 interception, 2 blocked field goals and 1 blocked punt.
Tight Race For Eliades
By Phil Kornblut
OL Lou Eliades (6-4 288) of Ocean Township, NJ made his official visit to Penn State over the weekend. He was favoring USC going into the visit, but now it's a two horse race. "It's 50-50 USC and Penn State," Eliades said. "It's going to be a tough decision." Eliades said his Penn State vist went very well. "I really liked it," he said. "I liked the players, they are really nice. I got to meet some of the commits. They seem real nice." And Eliades got a chance to spend time with coach Joe Paterno. "He's a really funny guy," Eliades said. "I was comfortable with Paterno because he was like a grandfather to me." USC head coach Steve Spurrier will visit Eliades Tuesday, Penn State assistant coach Anderson will be in Wednesday, and Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer will be in Thursday. Paterno doesn't plan to visit until January but the decision will be made by then. Eliades said he plans to make a decision before Christmas.

HEY GUYS,
Don't forget that we signed 2 pretty good QB's in the last class. Reguardless of where Clausen, Mustang or anyone else commits to SOS has enough talent either in house, on commited[Smiley] to give him[SOS] room to do his thing.
QB talent is not a problem. After all SOS is known for making GOOD college QB's out of talent that wouldn't work under someone elses system. Example -->Jessie Palmer, Rex Grossman, Noah Brandice, Danny Wuerffel, Ben Bennett…ENOUGH SAID , GOT IT?
OL and DL "BEEF" is the REAL NEED at this time and is being addressed this season. Under SOS's system the OL BEEF has got to pass block FIRST and open the holes second.
WE NEED BEEF/ FAST BEEF and I am certain that it is being addressed..

Smelley, 6-foot-3 and 213 pounds, set the AHSAA single-season record with 59 touchdown passes and established the career record with 134, a total that ranks eighth nationally. He set AHSAA records with 565 yards passing in a game and 4,120 yards in a season. His career total of 10,385 passing yards ranks second in the AHSAA record book.
typo perhaps by either by Scout or Alabama High School Athletics Association....or maybe he did it in his Junior year or before? Either way, 134 TD passes for a HS career is something I'll take in a QB recruit every single year.

"Something is rotten in the state of Denmark!"
I heard we landed (Chris?) Smelley,a highly rated QB. Then there is a thread entitled "It's official...Smelley switches commitment", saying he switched to LSU. But i have heard no more on this. I do not know what the story is.
The only other school Smelley was considering was Alabama, from everything I read. Smelley's not going anywhere but South Carolina, I believe that.
That being said, our firing Madre when we did & the other coaching changes we've made put us out with one kid who was considering us so that we're behind should be expected. There's plenty of nice looking talent out there still (see: Kylan Robinson  ) that we're in the running for so I'm not worried about where we're at now at all. Besides, our main focus was on the line and of the seven we've signed, we have two 3-star OL and one 4-star OL....and a 3-star FB to boot.
I'm liking it right now actually....the coaching shakeup that's probably scaring a few recruits right now will be forgotten with a dominant showing in the Independence. We win that game loud, have our visits in January and Neo'll be lighting us up with info on where our 2006 class ends up. Spurrier will get what he needs, have no doubt.

If I had to guess rabid I would guess you didn't read the whole thing. You saw the part about him decommiting and from then on out it was blahblahblahblah USC recruit Smelley blahblahblahblahblah decommits blahblahblahblahblah and switches commitment! Or this is at least how I imagine you confusing that.
But I wouldn't worry. I must say that I don't think in all my years of following USC recruiting have we ever had all of our recruits as no less then 3 stars. To only have 7 recruits we are doing pretty dandy!

I agree...If you look at rivals, they show an average star rating of our recruits. If you look at the other upper echelon schools that we compete against we are definitely doing a lot better than in the years past. At least as far as the level of talent we are getting to commit at this point. That number could even go up if some of Spurriers other hard work starts to pay off.

ESPN Radio in Columbia had Smelley's HS coach on yesterday and he said that Smelley has called EVERY play for the past 2 years. To call your own plays and throw for over 4,000 yards while getting 59 TD's and only 8 interceptions is pretty damn amazing. Plus even though he went to a private school they played in a conference with public schools. He has even played against players who are now at Bama,Auburn,Louisville, etc. Sounds like the perfect type of QB for Spurrier.
I also think we have a really good shot at landing 3 star D-Lineman Olufemi Ajiboye of College Park, GA. He is friends with other Banneker star Carlos Thomas so that should help in our recruiting of him. He has 3 favorites which include Illinois, SC, and Va. Tech.

If Thompson is definitely going to go, I wish it would happen now and that way Spurrier can go ahead and hand the reins of the defense over to Nix solely. I think that would carry a lot of weight as far as recruiting on the defensive side of the ball is concerned.

Watson At USC Today
By Phil Kornblut
USC is moving quickly to try to land DE Dekoda Watson (6-2 210) of South Aiken. After offering him last week during Shrine Bowl practice, the Gamecocks invited Watson to Columbia today to watch their bowl practice, and he is there according to his mother. Watson also was contacted Sunday at church by Florida State according to his mother. The Seminoles asked if he would be interested in coming to Tallahassee. Watson's mother said FSU has been her son's lifelong favorite team. Watson also has offers from North Carolina, Kentucky, Coastal Carolina and Newberry. He is scheduled to visit USC and North Carolina in January.
Brown Closer On Decision
By Phil Kornblut
RB Carlos Brown (6-0 195) of Franklin, GA has narrowed his list to USC and Georgia eliminating Florida State according to his coach Tim Barron. "He didn't even send an application to Florida State," Barron said Sunday afternoon. "He likes Spurrier's offense and the fact there are not as many running backs at South Carolina as at Georgia. But he likes coach Richt. There's pros and cons to both. He's keeping it quiet. I think he knows right now but he hasn't told me." Barron said Brown plans to let him know a decision sometime Monday. He said Brown will not hold a press conference to announce his choice. "The only thing he's done is let the local paper come by for pictures so they can have something to run with the story."

I hear that Anderson will move up in the rivals rankings after his dominating performance at the Shrine bowl. An easy 4-star and possibly a spot in the new rivals100 rankings when they are released.
The twin linebackers out of Georgia Military said they loved thier visit to SC and are 90% certain they will wear a Gamecock uniform next year.
Carlos Brown is ours. I am calling it now due to the circumstances of his press conference and other details.

Here is some perspective on usc's recruiting thus far:
According to the Atlanta Journal, of the remaining 40 players [of the 60 that have thus far committed], there are 9 considering UGA, 6 for the barn, 6 for less-U, 5 for the 'phants, 4 for scUM, 3 for free-shoes, 2 for ut, and ZERO-- --for usc.
(UF has 20)
Just what I'm hearing....and not very sure of its validity: Harvin clocks in at #20 overall on their list.

you are aware that there are plenty of good players that don't make it into the top 100 right?
we typically get one or two top 100 players a year, a bunch of above avg. players, and then some filler spots.
this year we may end up with zero top 100 players as you say but we may end up with all above avg. D-I prospects, including a few in the top 250.
if you're looking for us to be crying over our recruiting situation at the moment, you will be quite disappointed.

I have no problem taking on two players who some consider 4-star recruits to play defense at all. Our current young set of twins didn't pan out too badly considering our defense went from jelly to a pretty consistent playmaking unit when we started playing them more.
I admit that I wouldn't mind landing Carlos Brown though....that would be key. He or Kylan Robinson would go a long way toward getting other 'on the fence' guys to come too.
We were the first to offer Robinson but the Canes call a week ago and they shoot to the top of his list...see, I'm not sure if that's accurate though I can see how a kid from Alaska can look at Miami Beach and get hypnotized fairly quickly. :D We'll see how his visits go cuz I think once he sees where FOOTBALL factors in and what his role would be in various programs, he might wake up in time to make a good choice.
As for Brown, I think only Carlos Brown knows & I think it's closer than most people think after what I've read recently. I still think UGA is a notch higher but I don't think the notch is a big one....that would be a nice little coup in the grand scheme of things if he did choose USC. But then I think, why would any recruit want to sign with the Gamecocks and go from a 4-star to a 2-star....that would suck for him, wouldn't it? ;)
My plan would be to concentrate on the Independence, it's the best recruiting tool we have at the moment...a lot of recruits are probably wondering how the dust will settle and I, for one, think we're going to be a better team for the changes we made even if they're unpopular with recruits now.

I think if Steve Spurrier is recruiting them then they are valid players. I don't care what their star rating is. Steve knows who is a good fit for his team and who isn't. Plus they will both enroll in January get to do winter workouts and spring practice, which will help their playing time alot. They have 3 years to play 2.
I think we are doing well on recruiting and will continue to do well. As someone mentioned earlier, most of our big dogs come in on Jan. 13th so the weeks after that will decide how our class shapes up.

Well he's 6'7" 320 and he runs a 5.1 40! That's unbelievable. I'm 6'3" 180 and that is about my 40 time. Big man can move!

Definately a big pickup for SC. Our lines are already shaping up to be pretty good. After Jan. 13th I expect us to be in pretty good shape as far as our needs go, even if our national ranking doesnt really reflect how well our needs were addressed.

We seem to be getting some solid 0-line recruits which is very encouraging because lord only knows we need them. Now if we can get just a few more and some DL to boot!

We've got three four stars all ready and some speculate that OL commitment Garret Anderson will be raised to a four star next time rivals updates. Most importantly we are filling our needs. As for Bailey, he had some solid offers (FSU and Oklahoma just to name 2). As you probably already know, most of our targets with higher rankings and solid other offers are due in for their visits in mid-January (most on the 13th, but some on the 20th). In the end we will be in good shape.

Perhaps this shouldnt go in this thread but since most SC fans look on here the most then I'll go ahead and put it here.
Apparently Carlos Thomas has been moved permanently to defensive back. I guess Spurrier and Staff are already preparing for the loss of Simpson,Joseph, or both. With the number of offensive weapons returing next year I say that this move makes a lot of sense. I think that Thomas could be a great DB as he has all the right tools to excel in the position...not to mention he has already recorded an interception against one of the best QB's in the SEC in his first season.

I am pretty certain Anderson will be a 4-star just because he did well all season long and dominated during the Shrine bowl vs. some pretty talented DL from NC. Now, whether he makes the 100 list is still to be seen.

Eliades Sets Second USC Visit
By Phil Kornblut
OL Lou Eliades (6-4 288) of Ocean Township, NJ made his official visit to USC in September. Since that was so long ago, and so much has happened recruiting wise since then, Eliades decided to take an unofficial visit to USC to refresh his memory about the Gamecocks. Eliades said Wednesday he will make that visit January 13th, the major weekend of the recruiting campaign for the Gamecocks. Eliades is deciding between USC and Penn State and gives the Nittany Lions the current edge "because it's fresh in my mind." Eliades said he will make his decision after his visit to USC.

I hope we can get one of those RB's coming on the 13th, we need depth at that position.

It has been exactly 13 months since Neo started this USC recruiting thread! A lot of interesting information has been shared here, and I am grateful for everyone's contribution. Sometimes, you have helped this old man become a respected elder to my USC student/son because I was privvy to news before he had heard anything.
In reflecting upon our recruiting class so far, I am very excited. I remember sitting on the 2nd row in Athens and being amazed at how much bigger their lineman were compared to ours. We all know how difficult it was for us to get our running game going last year, and we remember painfully how Blake Mitchell took a pounding week after week.
Now we are getting some big and experienced men to work for us in the trenches. While QB's, WR's, and RB's usually get the big press, the truth is that none of them can get anything done without someone throwing a block, opening a hole, or forming a pocket.
We had some very good skill players last year who are going to look 10 times better next year. Everyone knew that we needed linemen. Spurrier is getting the job done (and I suspect there will be a few surprises with skill recruits come February 1), and we are exactly where we need to be at this point.
Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas. We all know that it is going to be a happy new year!

Kylan Robinson is who I have my fingers crossed for. I don't think we have much of a shot but he seems to have the size, speed & ability (402 rushing yards in one game this past year!) to be the every down back we could really use. Not taking away from the hard work Mike Davis and Bobby Wallce did this year but I don't see either of those two being as good as Robinson could be.
The weekend of January 13th will be huge in how this recruiting class turns out. I think we'll do fine either way but I'm hoping the stars align for the Gamecocks that weekend in particular. :)

I'm calling it now, I think we land that kid. He has to be looking at what Sidney Rice was able to do in our offense and start drooling. From all accounts this kid is a playmaker and I don't think LSU's offense is set up to let WR's shine. Here's his rivals bio:

I think Murdock has the speed and agility to be a great player. I see him playing especially since Carlos Thomas is being moved over to defense permentally. He was better then the other players early on before he got hurt (expect Rice and Thomas they were pretty good early on).
