USC Hosting Some Prospects Saturday
By Kevin McCrarey
There will be no official visits at USC this weekend for the Kentucky game but several players have indicated that they will make unofficial visits. Headlining that group is QB Stan Doolitlle of Ninety- Six. The 6-3 Doolittle is one of the state's leading passers and apparently has caught the eye of Steve Spurrier who has watched film on him. Other players that plan to visit this weekend include USC commitments LB Rodney Paulk, OL Garret Anderson, RB Clark Gaston. One other player that says he'll visit Gerorgia Commitment ATH Ronnie Tyler out of Wagner Salley.

About that Crawford guy, we dont need any thugs at USC. We have had plenty of problems dealing with them. Hopefully if this guy comes to USC he gets his act straighten out.
Patterson Meets Joe Pa
By Phil Kornblut
Joe Paterno is one again the toast of college football following his Penn State team's victory over Ohio State Saturday. Among those in the record crowd was DE Adam Patterson (6-3 260) of Richland Northeast who was making unofficial visit to State College. "It was nice, a good atmosphere," he said. "The fans were nice up there. I was very honored (to meet Paterno). I had a chance to talk to him about the team. I talked to the D-line coach as well. They felt like I would feel at home up there. They were trying to make me feel welcomed." Patterson also has visited Tennessee and NC State in recent weeks. He plans to take a couple of weekends off and then might take an unofficial visit to Auburn. He said he will start to schedule his official visits soon and knows two will be USC and NC State, and Tennessee is a possibility for a third. He will not take his official visits until December and January. Patterson continues to list USC and NC State at the top of his list though he says he's still open to all the schools he's visiting.
Jackson Enjoys Tech Visit
By Phil Kornblut
WR Richard Jackson (6-3 195) of Clermont, FL made an official visit to Georgia Tech last Thursday and Friday. He was in the stands for Tech's heartbreaking loss to NC State. That defeat did not sour him on his time on the Tech campus. "I liked it a lot," Jackson said. "When you are on the campus, you can't tell you are in Atlanta." Jackson has also made an official visit to Pittsburgh. He will visit Notre Dame this weekend and will also set a date with Miami. For his final trip he is looking at USC, Tennessee and Louisville. He does not claim a favorite.
Gnat Reschedules Louisville Visit
By Phil Kornblut
DE Rodney Gnat (6-4 227) of Jacksonville was scheduled to make an official visit to Louisville over the weekend but was forced to reschedule the trip because he retook the SAT Saturday. He has reset his visit to Louisville for November 11th. Gnat said Minnesota is also possible for an official visit and he's also looking hard at USC, Clemson and South Florida for possible visits. Gnat said USC recruiter Rick Stockstill is now calling him regularly but he hasn't heard from Clemson recruiter Dabo Swinney since the first week of September. He plans to make an unofficial visit to USC for the Clemson game. He currently favors Louisville.
Doolittle Catches Spurrier's Eye
By Phil Kornblut
The small town of Ninety Six has a big football reputation. Its notoriety might be about to rise as Steve Spurrier's interest in QB Stan Doolittle (6-3 185) increases. The USC head coach has identified Doolittle as a potential scholarship candidate. "He's talked to Stan and he likes him," said Ninety Six head coach and Stan's father Mike Doolittle. "They've still got other tapes to look at, but they like what they've seen." Doolittle was to make an unofficial visit to USC for the Kentucky game but had to miss it because his own team had it's Friday night game postponed until Saturday night. Doolittle attend the USC-Troy game and plans to come in to USC for the Vanderbilt game. He has offers from Gardner Webb, Newberry and Presbyterian, where his brother is a backup quarterback and receiver. He is also getting interest from Catawba, Akron, Middle Tennessee and Marshall. Last season Doolittle passed for 3221 yards and 30 touchdowns. He's approaching the 2000 yard passing mark this season. "He rarely comes off the field," his father said. "He's very competitive. He's done a great job of film study. He has the freedom to check at any time in our no huddle offense. He has a strong arm. His speed is much better than last year. Running is not something we ask him to do a lot of, but he can stay alive when he has to stay alive. He has a big arm and he reads the field well." Doolittle can also play free safety.

Tilley Sets USC Visit
By GSP Recruiting
10/11/05
Columbus, OH (Franklin Heights HS) is home to one of the top offensive linemen in the Buckeye State this year. Lee Tilley is a massive offensive tackle prospect who stands in at 65 317 lbs. and displays excellent athleticism on film. While Tilley had not been listing USC throughout most of this recruiting season, according to his coach Jeremy Beckham the Gamecocks are now a major contender for his star player.
Tilley has received over 30 offers but according to coach Beckham he has managed to narrow it down to six schools. Lee is still looking at Oklahoma, Arizona State, LSU, South Carolina, Florida and Virginia Tech. He has already visited Oklahoma and Arizona State and has trips set for LSU and South Carolina over the next two weeks. If he decides to take a fifth visit it would probably be to Florida, but we havent decided if he will take it or where it will be to yet.
Lee will be in Columbia to see USC take on Vanderbilt. Hes very excited about that trip. He just set it up last week but SC is definitely in the race for him. They have signed a few guys from this area before like Nashan Goddard and Ryan Brewer and thats something most of the others on his list havent done.
Coach Beckham says Lee likes the idea of leaving the Big Ten area. Lee likes the idea of going to other places where there arent a lot of guys from this region. Hes very interested in early playing time wherever he goes. He also would like to find a school where he knows the coach will take care of him. When youre going that far from home you have to know that the coach will be there to take care of you if needed.
One aspect that makes Tilley such an intriguing prospect is he has a chance for early enrollment into college. Lee is on pace to graduate in December. The only hold up may be that at this school they usually dont allow kids to do that, but we are trying to work around it and I think it will happen. He has all the core courses set up to do it its just up to the school now. Because of that he would like to make a decision in the near future. After the SC visit well see how he feels and if one school stands out above the rest he may go ahead and decide. If not hell take the last visit and make a decision shortly after that. Right now he is open between those six schools. I couldnt even tell you where he is leaning.

USC, Clemson Like Junior RB
By Phil Kornblut
Junior RB Ryan Houston (6-3 240) of Matthews, NC made an unofficial visit to USC for the Alabama game, and the Gamecocks and Clemson are among many schools already showing strong interest in him. According to his coach Mike Newsome, Houston is also drawing interest from Michigan, Ohio State, Boston College, Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Florida State, Miami, Texas, NC State and Tennessee among others. He plans to take in a game at North Carolina and at Tennessee later in the season. As a sophomore Houston rushed for 1429 yards. Through seven games this season he has rushed for 1015 yards. He has scored 50 touchdowns in his career. "He's too athletic to be a fullback," Newsome said. "He fits well in a one back set with a spread offense. He's amazingly quick. He's a kid that has the size and strength to run you over, but he has the quickness and speed to make a move and take it to the end zone. He's the most athletic big guy I've ever seen." Houston hand cleans 335 pounds and squats 550 pounds. He also plays basketball.

On Butler's first touchdown drive, Houston had five runs of 9 yards or more as he bowled through the Weddington defense.
Houston finished with 138 yards on the ground and five scores.
As a team, the Bulldogs rushed for 204 yards, gaining 16 first downs on the ground.
"He was a load," said Susi of Houston, a junior who already has an offer from the University of Michigan. "Every time he touched the ball it took several of our guys to bring him down."

Hornsby Sees Thriller At Michigan
By Phil Kornblut
WR Jamar Hornsby (6-4 195) of Jacksonville, FL made his official visit to Michigan over the weekend, so he was able to witness the Wolverines' thrilling victory over Penn State. "I had a great time," he said. "I got a chance to meet a lot of player and a lot of alumni. I see why they call it The Big House. Everyone was screaming, 'We want Hornsby'. It puts Michigan up on my list a little bit." Hornsby has not set any other visits but wants to with Southern Cal and Alabama. He is also looking at Georgia and Florida. He's also hearing regularly from USC. "You never know," he said when asked if he might become more interested in the Gamecocks. Hornsby was scheduled to visit Alabama this coming weekend but will have to reschedule because he is taking the SAT this Saturday. He does not have a favorite.

Smelley Checks Out Ole Miss
By Phil Kornblut
QB Chris Smelley (6-3 210) of Tuscaloosa, AL made his official visit to Ole Miss over the weekend when the Rebels played host to Alabama. "The trip was great," he said. "We watched a real exciting game. After the game, we hung out at the Grove and that was a neat experience. Later that night, we ate dinner with coach Orgeron and the quarterbacks coach. They said they really want me out there. I'm going to take a few more visits and make sure I know what I want to do. But they are definitely one of the top teams on my list." Smelley said he also wants to take official visits to USC and Louisville. He's also interested in nearby Alabama and has been there several times on his own and doesn't feel the need to set an official visit. Smelley has offers from Ole Miss, Tulane, Memphis, LSU and Oregon. He does not have a favorite.

USC Lands Sharpshooter
By Phil Kornblut
6-7 Evaldas Baniulis of Florida Air Academy in Melbourne committed late Monday afternoon to USC head coach Dave Odom. Baniulis made an official visit to USC last week. He also considered Gonzaga, St. Johns, Marquette, South Florida and West Virginia. Baniulis is a native of Lithuania and is an excellent outside shooter according to his coach. "He shoots it very, very well, " said coach Aubin Goporo. "He's a three point shooter. He comes off the screen, catches and shoots. Pump fake, one dribble jump shot, that's his game. He's a good defender. He moves his feet very quick. He knows where to be, where to go." Goporo said Dave Odom's reputation of success with Lithuanian players worked heavily in his favor in recruiting Baniulis. "I called him up and he came down and he liked the kid," Goporo said. Baniulis made his official visit to USC last week and quickly made his decision. "After he came back from his visit he said coach, this is what I like, this is where I want to be. He wants to major in international business. It was just a perfect fit for him." Baniulis also planned to visit Gonzaga and Marquette but has scratched those plans.

Yeah, I have been hearing that the Gamecocks might make some noise this year in the SEC. I really hope they can build off last year's NIT championship and maybe advance somewhat into the NCAAs this year. It will definitly help recruiting. And besides all the knocks on Odom he has at least made our team competitive in the SEC.

JUCO OL Has USC Offer
By Phil Kornblut
OL Sherrone Moore (6-5 295) of Butler County JC, KS has received an offer from USC. Moore said he was just recently offered by the Gamecocks and he will probably take an official visit with them. He also has offers from Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Arizona State and Iowa State. Moore said he will probably take visits to Oklahoma State and Arizona State as well. Moore is a native of Derby, KS who did not sign with a school out of high school. He plays left offensive tackle.
USC Likes Another Geathers
By Phil Kornblut
There is yet another member of the Geathers football family to follow on the recruiting trail. DE Jeremy Geathers (6-3 255) of Butler County JC, KS is a former North-South Game participant. He is the son of former NFL player Jumpy Geathers, the newphew of former NFL player Robert Geathers, and the first cousin of current NFL player Robert Geathers Jr. and Carvers Bay standout offensive tackle Clifton Geathers. He signed with Hampton in 2004 after starring at Andrews High School but enrolled instead at Butler where he was redshirted. He will graduate in December and will have three years to play three. USC is showing interest and is in regular contact. The Gamecocks have reviewed film and are waiting to look at the film of last week's game against Coffeyville in which Geathers went up against one of the top junior college tackles in the country. Geathers is hopeful of a Gamecock offer because he likely would take it. "I want to go home and come back and play at home," he said. "But anything in the SEC is good for me. As long as I get the chance to go against that talent." Geathers feels like USC will offer. He has an offer from Ball State and is also getting interest from Ole Miss, Baylor, Iowa State, South Florida and TCU. Geathers said his strength is pass rushing. He has 5.5 sacks in eight games.
USC Strong With Tennessee Lineman
By Phil Kornblut
USC is one of the favorites of OL MIke Berry (6-4 300) of Brentwood, TN. The Gamecocks have offered along with Auburn, Mississippi State, Kentucky and Vanderbilt. He is also drawing serious interest from Tennessee, Florida, Louisville and LSU. Berry has not set dates for visits but says two, for sure, will be USC and Auburn. He's waiting on more offers before deciding on more visits. Berry plays tackle but says he's being recruited for guard.
Brown Visiting USC This Weekend
By Phil Kornblut
According to his close friend and fellow offensive lineman Kevin Young, Seaver Brown (6-5 305) of Tampa will make an official visit to USC this weekend. Brown was not available Monday night to talk about his plans. "I went to dinner last night with Seaver Brown and he is visiting USC this weekend," Young said. "He favors USC, too." Young (6-5 320), also of Tampa, is scheduled to visit USC January 13th. He is also looking at Florida State and Miami for official visits, but USC is clearly out in front. "I may commit before my visit," he said. "I have a great feeling about this team in the next two or three years. They are going to be a pretty decent team." Young made an unofficial visit to USC for the Troy game and plans to come in unofficially for the Florida game.
Tilley Sees LSU, Ready For USC
By Phil Kornblut
OL Lee Tilley (6-7 310) of Columbus, OH made an official visit to LSU last weekend and enjoyed himself. "It was pretty nice," he said. I liked the game and the atmosphere. The food was great. The coaches were telling me I can come in and play early. They have an opportunity there for me." Tilley has also visited Oklahoma and Arizona State and will visit USC this weekend. He does not have a favorite at this point. "I'm still looking around trying to find that one that will fit me perfectly," he said. Tilley added his mother might make the visit with him. Tilley said he's been to 15 schools since last spring and doesn't feel pressed to set up a fifth official visit.
Singleton Enjoys LSU Visit
By Phil Kornblut
OL Steven Singleton (6-4 280) of Buford, GA made his official visit to LSU last weekend and liked what the Tigers have to offer. "The people down there are really friendly and nice," he said. "The facilities are really nice. The best part would be the weight room and practice facility." Singleton plans to set an official visit with USC and might do so for this weekend once he talks with recruiter Ron Cooper. He is also considering Mississippi State and West Virginia for visits. Singleton said right now LSU has a big lead on West Virginia.
Barrie Planning USC Visit
By Phil Kornblut
OL Jim Barrie (6-5 295) of Tampa is talking with USC about an official visit and is looking at the weekend of the Florida game November 11th for the trip. He has set visits with Michigan for November 18th and Florida State for December 9th. He is also looking at Notre Dame, Tennessee, LSU, Duke and South Florida for official visits. Right now Michigan and Florida State are his top two with no firm favorite between them.

when i first read that i scoffed? 'WE DON'T NEED A QUALITY QB?,' I thought to myself sarcasticly. but then i thought about it and you are completely right....we don't NEED him. blake has far exceeded my expectations this year and proven himself to be capable of at least being a phil petty type, where he doesn't necessarily win the game for us but probably won't lose it either. of course i'll take him if he wants to come here, but unless there is a stud out there that decides USC is the place for him we may not NEED to sign anymore than 1 serviceable backup QB this year.
we have far more pressing needs than another QB, unless we could sign a stud like Tebow or hopefully Clausen next year.

Mitchell has already been hurt once this year. Antonio showed us that he wasn't the man for the job. All the elite teams in the sec have depth at the most important position on the field. SOS is trying to get rid of this one hit wonder mentality. The other elite sec teams reload thier key position players not rebuild thier program every four or five years. It's about building a football program that does not have to worry about telling recruits they have a good chance of seeing early playing time, because they have four star recruits that are second and third string. If smelly is as good as his rankings seem to indicate,USC would be lucky to sighn him. :D

I think Spurrier will woo several of the big-name QB talents nationally in the hopes of landing a prize. We are just too dependent on Blake, and being without an adequate backup (or replacement) could, as we all know, spell d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r

I agree. Thompson seemed to have the edge on Beecher, since Spurrier red-shirted Beecher right out of the gate. Thompson got alot of praise from coaches early on. But in order for Thompson to contribute, he's got to put on some weight/muscle. 175 lbs is at least 30 lbs too light.
I'm still hoping we get Jimmy Clausen. If Thompson bulks up and can be ready to go if something happens to Mitchell, we can red-shirt Clausen, continue to see if Beecher steps up, and be in great shape at QB for a while.
No matter who it is, we will always recruit QB's. Maybe only 1 or 2 this year 'cause we need about 16 linemen for sure.
This list was compiled from myself and from the USC page at Scout.com
(Rivals 100) indicates that the player has been placed on Rivals' preseason Top 100 list. Listings with (Hot100) indicate that player made one of Scout's regional Hot 100 lists.

We need more players like Newton!!!!!!!!!
With continued work, I wonder if Heffner can become this type of player? Coach Holtz always said Syvelle was a great QB. He also said Heffner would be a great QB. Heffner has great atheletic ability, but he has alot of work to do before he will know the playbook like Syvelle!
Gaither Checks Out Gamecocks
By Phil Kornblut
DB Darius Gaither (6-1 205) of Fairfield Central made an unofficial visit to USC for Saturday's game with Vanderbilt. That was the second USC game he's seen this season, the other being Central Florida, and he plans to be at the USC-Tennessee game this coming weekend. Gaither said he arrived at the stadium in the first quarter and left shortly after the game. "It went well, I liked it," Gaither said of his visit. "I didn't like how Syvelle Newton got hurt but I liked how they had somebody to replace him." Gaither has not decided on his official visits and said he does not have frontrunners. He has offers from USC, Clemson, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland and NC State.
Brown Enjoys USC Visit
By Phil Kornblut
OL Seaver Brown (6-5 305) of Tampa made an unofficial visit to USC for the Vanderbilt game. He went into the weekend favoring the Gamecocks, and that feeling remains unchanged. "It went really well," Brown said. "It was a lot of fun. There's a lot of stuff I like about the school. I loved it all." Brown said he had a chance to talk with Steve Spurrier for a few minutes and spent time with other coaches as well. However, he's not ready to make a commitment and plans to take other official visits besides his January 13th trip to USC. Florida and Tennessee are two possibilities.
Visits Continuing At USC
By Phil Kornblut
OL Lee Tilley (6-07 310) of Columbus, OH arrived late Saturday night for his official visit to USC after missing his flight leaving Columbus. Tilley will remain on campus until Monday morning when he will fly back home. Also, OL Steven Singleton (6-4 280) of Buford, GA came in late for his official visit and will be on campu until Monday.
Barnes Names A Top Four
By Phil Kornblut
Junior WR Mark Barnes (6-3 190) of Richland Northeast said Thursday his current favorite four schools are USC, Michigan, LSU and Notre Dame. All have offered except LSU. Barnes said he has about 15 offers at this point. He said USC remains his favorite.

Man thats a idea. I think that can happen, but not this year because if Mitchell gets hurts there is really no one to replace him. If Heffner dosen't really show anything at QB I think Coach Spurrier might move him to WR/RB. That would be awesome. That would be two triple-threats who can Run, Throw and Catch the ball.

Gainesville (Ga.) wide receiver Kendrick Lewis committed to the Ole Miss Rebels shortly after signing day last February. At the time, he was all set to play his senior season in New Orleans, his home at the time. Hurricane Katrina forced Lewis and his family to leave Louisiana and relocate to Georgia. Since beginning his career in Georgia, the 6-foot, 180-pound Lewis has begun looking at other schools, including USC.

Singleton Talks About USC Visit
By Phil Kornblut
OL Steven Singleton (6-4 280) of Buford, GA completed his official visit to USC early Monday morning and flew back home for his school day. Singleton enjoyed his time in Columbia. "I like coach Spurrier, he's a really good coach," Singleton said. "They showed me the depth chart and the academic support system. They have a nice stadium and and it was a good atmosphere." Despite all that, the Gamecocks don't figure to get Singleton. He said LSU is still his favorite, and West Virginia would be #2 ahead of USC. Singleton said he will visit Morgantown in December. He said he likes the Mountaineers because he's very familiar and comfortable with their offensive line coach. Singleton said the West Virginia visit might be his last visit.
Doolittle Would Love USC Offer
By Phil Kornblut
QB Stan Doolittle (6-3 185) of Ninety Six had his best game of the season last Friday night in a win over Newberry, and fortunately for him, USC recruiter Rick Stockstill was on hand to scout him. Doolittle was 29-38 for 319 yards and 3 touchdowns. This season he's passed for 2270 yards and 22 touchdowns. Saturday he attended the USC-Vanderbilt game and got some idea of where he stands with the Gamecocks. "They are going to sit back and evaluate all the quarterbacks they can," he said. "I like it down there. Coach Spurrier has that program headed in the right direction. It would be great to be coached by him. I just hope when they do their evaluation of me that goes well and they still like me." Doolittle said if USC were to offer, he'd commit on the spot. Doolittle was named last week to the Shrine Bowl team. He has offers from Newberry, Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb. He's also getting interest from Catawba and Charleston Southern.

We have an OL Commitment!
Brown Commits To USC
By Phil Kornblut
USC got a nice surprise after practice Monday night. OL Seaver Brown (6-5 305) of Tampa called his recruiter David Reaves and made a commitment. Brown had made an unofficial visit to USC for the Vanderbilt game. "It's a big relief," he said. "I'd been thinking about committing to them. It was everything I wanted to see. I made my decision when I got home. The chance to play early was a major role in it. Plus, the way the coaches recruited me." Brown said he will only make one official visit and that will be to USC January 13th. He also had offers from NC State, Maryland, North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Temple and Rutgers.
We have an OL Commitment!
That's one down....Three to go...
This list was compiled from myself and from the USC page at Scout.com
(Rivals 100) indicates that the player has been placed on Rivals' preseason Top 100 list. Listings with (Hot100) indicate that player made one of Scout's regional Hot 100 lists.

Young Pulls The Trigger
By Phil Kornblut
OL Kevin Young (6-5 320) of Tampa committed to South Carolina Monday night just minutes after his close friend Seaver Brown did the same thing. Young said his Gamecock recruiter David Reaves called him after getting the Brown commitment and asked when he was going to do the same. Young committed on the spot. "All the coaches come off more as friends than coaches," Young said. "Just the fact that I can be known more as a player than just another number on the team was big. And the idea of playing early is just awesome." Young said he likely will make his January 13th visit to USC his only official visit. Young chose USC from over 30 other offers.

let's just hope we can keep Patterson in town. hopefully Paulk is working on him at lunch and in the locker room every day, hehe.
if he really still feels NC St. and USC are the top two for him I don't see how he could possible choose State the way they've played this year vs. the potential we have for the future....though i suppose it's quite possible he could eventually decide he just wants a change of scenery

Eliades To Take Second Visit
By Phil Kornblut
OL Lou Eliades (6-4 288) of Ocean Township, NJ will make his second official visit this coming weekend when he travels to Virginia Tech. He visited USC in September. Eliades will also set a visit with Notre Dame, and he says Penn State is a possibility for a visit. He had been considering Tennessee but he says the Vols are basically out of the running right now. "I figure if I'm going to go far away from home, chances are I'll go to South Carolina," he said in explaining why he's dropped the Vols. Eliades said USC, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Penn State would be his favorite four right now but he doesn't have an individual leader.
Hokies Checking Out Watson
By Phil Kornblut
DE Dekoda Watson (6-2 210) of South Aiken has seen Virginia Tech become the latest major program to show interest in him. Watson said the Hokies scouted him at a recent game and have been calling him regularly. He's also hearing weekly from USC, Clemson and Tennessee. Watson has offers from North Carolina, Kentucky, Coastal Carolina and Newberry. He does not have a favorite and has not scheduled any official visits. Thus far this season, the Shrine Bowl selection has 111 tackles with 11 sacks.
Tyler Focusing On Four
By Phil Kornblut
WR Ronnie Tyler (5-10 178) of Wagener-Salley remains a soft commitment to Georgia as he checks out other schools. He was scheduled to attend the USC-Vanderbilt game a couple of weeks back but did not make it in. He was at the USC-Kentucky game the week before that. Tyler said he's primarily looking at USC, Clemson and Virginia Tech along with Georgia. "I haven't withdrawn my commitment," he said. "I'm just looking at other schools. Coach Richt and Coach Fabris respect that. I'm just hoping I make the right decision." Tyler said USC recruiter Rick Stockstill has been the only coach to scout him thus far this season. Tyler has not scheduled any official visits at this point.
Shrine Bowl Lineman Favors USC
By Phil Kornblut
Interest appears to be growing in DL Chris Donaldson (6-3 260) of Westside. The Shrine Bowl selection has an offer from SC State but is having contact from USC, Clemson, Tennessee and Kentucky. "USC calls a good bit," he said, " and Clemson said they would watch me at the Shrine Bowl." Donaldson attended the USC at Tennessee game and has also been to games at USC and Clemson. He calls USC his current favorite.
USC LIkes Westside Lineman
By Phil Kornblut
USC is showing stronger interest in OL Justin Keown (6-5 250) of Westside according to Rams coach Ted Luckadoo. "They scouted him recently and were impressed," Luckadoo said. "They want more tape, but they like him." Keown has been to a game at USC. He was at Appalachian State last weekend. He has an offer from Newberry. He's also getting some interest from Clemson, Auburn, Coastal Carolina, Middle Tennessee State, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Not much happening here I guess. I really hope we can get some big names this year. We need them. I think winning 2 out of the last 3 cements a big class. That would show that Spurrier can do it and the Tennessee game has already gotten many recruits attention. We need to keep it positive attention.
Florida OL To Visit USC
By Phil Kornblut
OL Jeramy Devane (6-4 300) of Daytona Beach, FL has set all five of his official visits, and USC will get one of them. "I'm very interested in South Carolina right now," Devane said. "I don't know a whole lot about them but I hope to find out on my visit." Devane will visit Louisville November 25th, Wake Forest December 2nd, Central Florida December 9th, USC January 13th and West Virginia January 20th. "I'm looking for somewhere where I'm comfortable because I'm going to be there for a while. I want to feel comfortable with the position coach." Devane said he does not have a favorite and plans to take all his visits.
Cook Sets USC Date
By Phil Kornblut
LB Emmanuel Cook (5-11 200) of West Palm Beach, FL has set his official visit with USC for January 13th. Cook has already visited Ole Miss and will visit Rutgers December 9th. He will also set a visit with NC State. Cook is also looking at Arizona State, Minnesota, Wake Forest, North Carolina and Miami. He does not have a leader.
USC & CU Checking Barber
By Phil Kornblut
DB C.J. Barber (6-2 195) of Pearl River JC, MS has heard recently from both USC and Clemson. Barber said USC recruiter Rick Stockstill called him Tuesday night and Clemson recruiter David Blackwell talked to him last week. He's also hearing from Tennessee and Ole Miss. All the schools are waiting on Barber's academic report from this semester to see if he will be able to graduate in May. USC remains his favorite. Barber said an ankle injury has sidelined him for much of his team's season which was disrupted due to the hurricanes.
Geathers Feels Close To USC Offer
By Phil Kornblut
DE Jeremy Geathers (6-3 255) of Butler County JC, KS talked with a USC assistant Tuesday night and was told the Gamecocks were reviewing film of his last three games. "He said they liked what they've seen so far," Geathers said. He feels the Gamecocks are moving towards an offer for him. Geathers talked to USC recruiter Rick Stockstill last week. He has an offer from Ball State and is also hearing from Ole Miss, Southern Miss, South Florida, Baylor, Iowa State, TCU and Eastern Michigan. He is looking at making official visits to USC, South Florida and Ball State. While he is looking around, Geathers said he would prefer to return home and play for USC. He will graduate in December and have three years to play three. This season he has 8.5 sacks in 10 games.
USC Offers Another JUCO Lineman
By Phil Kornblut
OL Shannon Boatman (6-7 313) of Tyler JC, TX said Tuesday night he was offered verbally last week by USC offensive line coach John Hunt. Boatman said he also has offers from SMU, Texas State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, UTEP, Louisiana-Lafayette and Houston. He has scheduled official visits to Oklahoma State December 2nd and Iowa State December 9th. He will also set visits with USC and Nebraska. He does not have a favorite but has a good feeling about USC. "It's an up and coming program with Spurrier as coach," he said. "I know how he can coach. And he has a young team." Boatman is a native of Beaumont, TX. He is on track to graduate in December and will have two years to play two.

I agree! Finishing the season on a roll would be key to our future success.
I was surprised, but there wasn't much information today on the recruiting front. I guess everyone is focusing on the end of their seasons. The UF and CLEM games will probably have some impact on recruiting.
Expect USC to receive 1-2 more commits in the next week or so. According to what I'm being told, they're good ones too. :D

Bailey Sets USC Visit
By Phil Kornblut
OL Clarence Bailey (6-7 308) of Lackawanna JC, PA has set an official visit to USC for December 2nd. Bailey will visit Ole Miss November 11th and Oklahoma November 25th. He's also considering Pittsburgh and Nebraska for possible visits. Right now Bailey calls the Gamecocks and Oklahoma his favorites. "I like Spurrier's offense," he said. "The way they pass the ball. And the left tackle is leaving and there's a possibility I could come in and start because that's the position I play." Bailey graduates in December and will have two years to play two.
Ajiboye Sets Date With USC
By Phil Kornblut
DL Olufemi Ajiboye (6-2 275) of College Park, GA has set the date for his official visit with USC for December 2nd. That's the only trip he has set so far but he plans to scheduled a trip to Virginia Tech. He has offers from the Gamecocks and Hokies along with Southern Miss. Ajiboye also is interested in Auburn and Georgia. He does not have a favorite.
Doolittle Waiting On "The Call"
By Phil Kornblut
QB Stan Doolittle (6-3 185) of Ninety Six continues to pile up the passing yardage. He's now at 2749 yards and 29 touchdowns through 11 games. Doolittle continues to talk with USC and was invited in for an unofficial visit for the Florida game, but he had already promised Appalachian State he would attend their game, so he will travel up to Boone. Doolittle is hoping for a USC offer and would commit immediately to the Gamecocks. He has offers from Gardner Webb, Presbyterian and Newberry. He is also hearing from Catawba and Charleston Southern.

WR Quintin Hancock (6-3 185) of St. Augustine, FL has made an official visit to Nebraska and will visit Maryland December 18th. He has not set his other trips but is looking primarily at USC, Tennessee and Georgia for those visits. He does not have a favorite.

USC Hanging Strong With Clausen
By Phil Kornblut
USC remains very much in the race for star junior QB Jimmy Clausen (6-3 190) of Westlake Village, CA. Clausen's coach, Bill Redell, said Monday that from his own observations, and in his own opinion without input from Clausen or his family, Clausen has a top four of USC, Southern Cal, Notre Dame and California. The common denominator for all four schools is the head coach's reputation for developing quarterbacks for the NFL, and that's a key factor in Clausen's decision. Clausen has not been to a USC game this season, but his father said earlier in the season he would bring Clausen and a couple of his highly regarded teammates with him to a game in Columbia. It is not yet known if they plan to come in for the Florida game or the Clemson game. Clausen has seen limited time this season because most of his games are blow outs. He has passed for 1775 yards and 21 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions. He has completed 91 of 144 attempts for a 63% completion mark.
USC Following Tar Heel Lineman
By Phil Kornblut
USC interested in OL Sean Allen (6-3 290) of Wilson, NC but has not yet offered. "They say I'm high on their board," Allen said. "They want to evaluate more of my tapes." Allen was at the USC-Kentucky game. He has also been to games at East Carolina, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Duke. He has an offer from East Carolina, but USC is his current favorite ahead of the Pirates and Wake Forest. "I have a better chance of playing early there," Allen said. Allen plays right tackle and says he's a good run blocker.
Florida RB Plans USC Visit
By Phil Kornblut
RB Brandon James (5-8 175) has not set any of his official visits but he says three will be USC, Penn State and Georgia Tech. He's also looking at Louisville, Wake Forest and Illinois for possible visits. James said he hasn't talked to his USC recruiter Rick Stockstill in a couple of weeks but hopes to this week because he wants to come in for the Florida game on an unofficial visit. James does not claim a leader right now. This season James has rushed for 1019 yards and 19 touchdowns in 10 games, all victories. James says his brother DB Jacques Rickerson and his teammate WR Quintin Hancock also plan to set official visits with USC.

Shrine Bowler Hearing From USC
By Phil Kornblut
USC is in touch with Shrine Bowl LB Donkay Degraffenreid (5-10 185) of Rock Hill. "I talked to coach Nix last week," Degraffenreid said. "He said they want to see more film. I am talking to them about an official visit." Degraffenreid is also hearing from Tennessee and Virginia Tech. He has offers from Newberry, Coastal Carolina and SC State. He does not have a favorite. This season Degraffenreid has 130 tackles with 6 sacks and 12 tackles for loss.
Georgia Linebacker To Watch USC
By Phil Kornblut
LB Eric Norwood (6-2 245) of Acworth, GA has been committed to Oklahoma State since making an official visit there in late October, but he's still checking other schools, including USC. "I'm committed to Oklahoma State but I'm looking at other schools to make sure I make the right decision." Norwood also has offers from USC, Auburn, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Baylor and Memphis. Norwood will attend the USC-Florida game this weekend and will go to the Auburn-Alabama game next weekend. He has not set any other official visits but plans to set dates with USC and Auburn. Norwood said he has known his Gamecock recruiter Tyrone Nix since they met when Nix was at Southern Miss. Norwood also plays receiver, tight end and outside linebacker. He said USC likes him as a defensive end. This season he had 50 tackles with 11 sacks. He caused 5 fumbles and recovered 5, broke up 4 passes and returned a fumble for a touchdown. He also caught 15 passes for 315 yards and 3 scores.

[QUOTE=Neo]USC Hanging Strong With Clausen
The common denominator for all four schools is the head coach's reputation for developing quarterbacks for the NFL, and that's a key factor in Clausen's decision. QUOTE]
I really dont think we are going to get Clausen because of that reason. Carrol of Southern Cal, and Weis of Notre Dame have good reputation for developing NFL QB's compared to Spurrier. I really hope we get him but I'd say we have probably like a 10% chance maybe.

Texas Receiver Likes USC
By Phil Kornblut
WR Terrell Reese (6-4 200) of Pflugerville, TX plans to take an official visit to USC, possibly for the Clemson game. Reese already has made official visits to Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Arizona, and he says Oklahoma probably will be his final visit. Reese says USC is a real possibility for him. "They throw the ball a lot and that's good for me, being a receiver," he said. "They are on a four game winning streak and doing real good. They like to throw the ball and I like to catch it." Reese was a quarterback as a junior but suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in the third game and missed the rest of the season. He had surgery and has completedly recovered. Reese also has offers from Arkansas and Missouri. He does not have a favorite.

I think this year is going to be an amazing recruiting season. This is the first year in recent memory where we have only offered quality players and even other quality players are recruiting themselves to SC. So this is what it is like to have a quality team.
Recruits To Watch Clemson and USC
By Phil Kornblut
Clemson is scheduled for three official visits this weekend while USC has no official visits planned. DB Jonathan Warren of Butler County JC, KS was scheduled for an official visit to Clemson but that visit has been postponed until a later date. Players who have said they will make official visits with the Tigers this weekend are OL Nick Brousseau of Chippewa Falls, WI, WR Jacoby Ford of Fork Union Prep, VA, and RB Keith Payne of Vienna, VA. Those visits are subject to change. The Tigers will have several other unofficial visits from senior and junior prospects. Among the players who have said they will take unofficial visits to USC this weekend are OL Jeremy Devane of Daytona Beach, FL, RB Brandon James and WR Quintin Hancock of St. Augustine, FL and LB Eric Norwood of Acworth, GA. Several other senior and junior prospects plan unofficial visits to USC this weekend.
Boatman Has USC Date
By Phil Kornblut
OL Shannon Boatman (6-7 313) of Tyler JC, TX has set an official visit to USC for December 9th, at least for now. He also has scheduled a visit to Iowa State for the same date. USC wants him to move the Iowa State visit and keep his visit to Columbia on that date. Boatman is not sure right now what he will do about that. He is scheduled to visit UTEP November 18th, Oklahoma State December 2nd and Nebraska December 16th. He does not have a favorite.

I'd say we are in prime position to land some big recruits this year. We have showed them that we can and will beat the big teams. All we need to to is beat Clemson and have a strong bowl game and I say we have a top 10 maybe top 5 recruiting class.

Patterson Working On Official Visits
By Phil Kornblut
DE Adam Patterson (6-3 260) of Richland Northeast continues to trim his list of schools down toward the five he will visit officially. Patterson said he is looking at a group including USC, Michigan, NC State, Auburn, Penn State, Florida, Virginia Tech and Georgia for his official visits. He said he won't decide on the trips until after the Shrine Bowl. Patterson said he does not have a favorite or a group of leaderson. Patterson had planned to make an unofficial visit to Michigan this weekend but he did not make the trip.
What scares me about local kids like Patterson is less the fact he no longer distinctly lists USC as a favorite and more the fact that any kind of new problems at home could make a kid more likely to try and get away. I'm not saying that's an issue for Patterson or any local talent, but it's a scenario any of the distant teams are less likely to worry about.
Atlanta DE Watches USC Win
By Phil Kornblut
DE Terrence Campbell (6-4 240) of Atlanta made an unofficial visit to USC for the Florida game and is strong on the Gamecocks right now. "I loved it," he said. "It was a real good visit. I liked the atmosphere and the fans. When we got there, a lot of people knew us. And the coaching staff seemed more interested in our grades than just our athletic ability." Campbell said he has verbal offers from USC, Baylor and Memphis. He is also getting interest from Louisville, Auburn and Arkansas. Campbell said he will set official visits with USC, Baylor, Louisville and Auburn. This season he had 81 tackles and 11 sacks. "I'm very fast coming off the ball," he said. "I play till the whistle blows. I'm a very good pass rusher." Campbell said while he does like USC, he's keeping his options open.
Moore Enoys Time At Oklahoma
By Phil Kornblut
OL Sherrone Moore (6-5 295) of Butler County JC, KS made an official visit to Oklahoma over the weekend and enjoyed his time in Norman. "The facilities were nice," he said. "The coaches were pretty cool. I got to know the players a little bit. The offensive linemen were very physical and I liked that a lot. They are always on the move." Moore did not commit to Oklahoma but he is favoring the Sooners. He will visit Arizona State this weekend and also plans to set visits with USC and Oklahoma State.
Norwood Impressed By USC
By Phil Kornblut
LB Eric Norwood (6-2 245) of Acworth, GA remains committed to Oklahoma State, but USC remains strongly in the picture after his unofficial visit to Columbia for the Florida game. "It was great," Norwood said. "I already knew coach Nix from a long time ago, and I just met all the other coaches. They need some help up front. I like the fact they play their freshmen. They put the best guys on the field. They are doing a good job and they don't have a bunch of talent. But they are doing a good job with that they've got. That shows good coaching." Norwood has already made an official visit to Oklahoma State. He will set his official visit date with USC this week. He will also set a date with Auburn. He will go to the Alabama-Auburn game this weekend.
RNE Juniors Get Auburn Offers
By Phil Kornblut
DB Gary Gray (5-10 165) and WR Mark Barnes (6-3 190) of Richland Northeast, two of the state's top junior prospects, have received written, official offers from Auburn. Gray confirmed the offers Sunday night. For Gray, it's his first offer while Barnes has multiple offers including USC, Clemson, Wake Forest, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia Tech, NC State, Penn State, North Carolina and Georgia Tech. Gray also is getting interest from USC, Georgia, NC State, Tennessee and Florida State.
Top Two Same With Singleton
By Phil Kornblut
OL Steven Singleton (6-4 280) of Buford, GA is not making any visits while his team is in the playoffs, and they will play a third round game this Friday. Singleton has made official visits to USC and LSU and will visit West Virginia December 9th. At this point, he's not planning any other official visits. Singleton continues to favor LSU over USC but says both are still under consideration.
Devane Gets First Look At USC
By Phil Kornblut
OL Jeramy Devane (6-4 300) of Daytona Beach, FL made an unofficial visit to USC for the Florida game, his first chance to see the Gamecocks in person. "It was awesome," he said. "The stadium was unreal. I met coach Stock and the offensive line coach. They are going to be winning a lot of games in the future. I like South Carolina a lot, but I'm going to make my other visits and go from there." Devane is set with his five official visits...Louisville November 25th followed by Wake Forest and Central Florida the following two weeks. He will visit USC January 13th and West Virginia January 20th.
I say we shouldn't allow anything under a 4 star this year, what do you say NEO?
I say we shouldn't allow anything under a 4 star this year, what do you say NEO?
I'm not sure. See, stars don't mean everything, but they do mean something.
If we beat Clemson and go to the Outback Bowl, I'm expecting a Top-10 recruiting class.
If KY beats Georgia, scratch out my last statement and add a "Top-5" recruiting class.
