The showdown kicks off between the USC Gamecocks (6-3-0) and the Florida Gators (5-4-0) on ESPN2 at 7pm. This game has ramifications on both sides of the ball. With a win, USC would then have a clearer path to a possible New Years Day bowl. With a Florida win, it would make them officially bowl eligible for this season.
While everything hasn't gone Florida's way the past few games, these Gators still have some fight left in them. Almost losing to Vanderbilt on Saturday, the Gators QB Chris Leak engineered a come back and stalled the Vanderbilt motor 34-17. This is going to be a very intense battle as you may know. There's a lot of bad blood between both teams and right now, Florida is 4-1 at home while USC is 3-0 on the road. All of USC's road victories have been at very hostile stadiums including Tuscaloosa, AL and Lexington, KY. Who will win, let's look:
Personally, I think USC could win this game big. With USC TB Demetris Summers averaging 7.8 yards per carry over the last two (2) games, he's a force that has to be reckoned with. Given the fact that USC QB Syvelle Newton is 2-1 as a starter, this game will be his game in the SEC to shine. He showed just how big of a playmaker he can be when he threw the come from behind TD against Arkansas last week. Now we come to the most dangerous WR the SEC has, Troy Williamson. Aside from catching the game winning TD passes in both Arkansas and Kentucky, he still has 39 catches for 802 yards and 7 TD's. That's a whopping 20.6 yards per catch. His breakaway speed makes him a threat to the deep ball. This year his longest is a 73 yard TD. Last year, he had a 99 & 98 yard TD's. Expect Florida to go with double coverage on Williamson, thereby exposing one of the other dangerous receivers to open up.
For the first time, I expect USC to come out of the saloon with guns blazing. They need to stick it to the Gators early and take the home field advantage out of the equation.
