Lets get the obvious out of the way. WE LOST. So what, when was the last time we went undefeated???? NEVER!!!! All I see on the gamecock message board are crying fans who are upset at our loss on Saturday. WOW!!! Tennessee beat us. Who cares, if you let this ruin your year then good. The team doesn't need you to be at the games. Stay at home and watch the game on TV. But, when we win Saturday, I dont want anyone to come to Florida to see us play that wasn't there for the Arkansas game. I have been a USC fan since i was born. My dad and I have traveled 2 and 1/2 hours to see USC play every year for every home game. We even go to the closer away games. This year I missed the KY game and that is it. Does anyone remember in 1999 when we went 0-11????? We sold out EVERY GAME!!!! Where are those fans??? I am sick of the fans now expecting us to win a national championship. WE WONT WIN ONE FOR A WHILE!!! Get over it. All I can say is come out and support our team if you are a true fan. They desirve better than this and I am TIRED of it. GAMECOCK 4 LIFE!!!!!

Let me tell you something. Don't presume to tell me that I cannot criticize a program. If I am contributing to that program then that gives me EVERY right. Every year, USC gets big WADS of money out of me through tickets and donations so we expect something in return.

So what you are saying is that we should just cheer on the team and not ask any questions or hold someone accountable right? Well that's crazy. Before I would do that, I would just assume to believe the "Single Bullet" theory. Granted, I will always be a USC fan but I think someone needs to be held accountable if this year flubs up like last year and we end up 5-6. Fans should just STOP sending blank checks to this university until they get their act in gear. It would appear that this university embraces and encourages mediocrity and apathy. Take Dr. Mike McGee for instance, he's the USC AD. Name one coach other than Holtz and the current basketball coach that he's hired and has succeeded? Don't even say Eddie Fogler. He was a BUST!

See what I'm getting at? McGee has taken your money and you haven't received anything in return. Would you keep buying KIA's if they kept breaking down and tearing up on you? No right? That's because you want to get a quality product for your hard earned money. See, USC has a habit of hiring coaches that beat us and that's a fact. Sparky Woods did it to us at App. State. Brad Scott did it to us at Florida St. Eddie Fogler beat us while he was at Vanderbilt in basketball. Do you see the pattern?

We as fans should demand better. We deserve better. I feel that the university is taking advantage of our loyalty and only doing enough to get by. I remember when Florida was in the same spot we are in now. The fans started keeping their money in their wallets and the university set a higher standard for itself, and started winning. They hired Mr. Spurrier and everything went "hunky dory" for 13 years. Then the "Zooker" came along and the fans made a statement then and where is the "Zooker" now?

I must agree with my comrade RW on this issue. We as fans deserve a hell of a lot more than what we are getting. If you demand more, you will get more. Hold these people accountable for their performance or lack of.

I'm just tired of Gamecock fans looking at everything through "garnet" colored glasses and telling me not to rock the boat. Every year when I make donations to the Athletic Dept. I wanna see a return on my investment.

Yeah, I see a pattern. They are doing it again. Maybe the outcome will be better this time.

I agree and think you do have to hold someone accountable. YOu look at all great schools with great winnin traditions.... their fans expect more therefor they expectmore out of their program and it strives for them to succeed. Im not sayin stick by ya team through the tough times .. im not sayin that at all. Im sayin stand by the team while also thinking and pushin for ways for that team to improve. Trust me if anyone knows about that its an Alabama fan. Look at how high we was and then how low we got all of a sudden and now we are back on track to get back to that high. YOu gotta believe and stick with it while also gettin the right persons there to get the program there. South Carolina took a major step towards demandin more out of their football program when they got Spurrier. I personally aint a fan of his but he will build this program into a legit threat to win 8 - 10 every year but after he leaves yall have to continue to strive for that excellence. That is what makes a great college football program.

What a double edged blade we have here. Every one likes to see their team win. That is a give in. We want to question everyone's loyalty, and presume we are the biggest fan, and the greatest support to our beloved team, when in all actuality the guy beside you who just spilled half of his beer on your feet thinks the the same thing about himself. What you have to realize, there is a huge difference between losing one game in a season, by 2, in overtime , and only winning if the other team forgets to show up. That is an internal problem, not a problem lashing out at other fans is going to fix. "Getting over it" is not an option. If your child came home with with F's on his grade card and you knew he had the ability to bring home A's, you have seen him do the work, you would go to the source wouldn't you. I think that loyalty is fantastic, and pride in your team is what it is all about. But put your loyalty and pride in the right place. I could be wrong, but I feel like the guys out there every Saturday playing can only do what they are told and taught to do. They obviously have talent or they wouldn't be there, how that talent is used and made to grow is the responsibility of the coaching staff, department and the university, if they are not winning, someone, somewhere is not doing their job. In turn, while would never turn my back on the boys, I would have to ask, why am I devoted to this program, when it doesn't appear to be devoted to me?

good insightful posts vol and Hardie, especially since you guys speak from experience (NC's, SECC's,etc.). We definately need to do something...

Ditto that. Alabama and Tennessee have enjoyed success for quite some time now and it boils down to what we were talking about.

When you demand better, you receive better.

I appreciate the kudos RW and DeL , and I really feel SC has got the pieces of the puzzle there to make a push and be in a position to enjoy 8 - 10 win seasons regularly. Like RW said too with young fans support and puttin money in the program I feel yall can raise the bar and be on that level of excellence thats expected of great universities. I like SCs school and athletic programs one thing ya have had all along is CLASS , good fans with great devotion and personally I wish yall the best of luck. Would be nice to see SC vs ALA in Atlanta one year dont ya think lol ;)

Yeah....It would be very ironic wouldn't it? The other day on ESPN's Pardon The Interruption, they are predicting Mr. Spurrier to win a SEC Title in 3 years. I think that's a little early, but maybe they know something I don't know.

I'm with ya DeL , I cant wait to get the 2005 season on the way but we still got a lil bit to go here this season and I cant wait to see how this one ends too. I would not be a bit surprised if SC won and SEC east title and confrense championship in 3 yrs. Spurrier is a great coach and if things pan out like you stated in other posts bout Leak transfering I think that prediction could and should become a reality. I did hear on ESPN today/ this morning that because of the brawl in the SC / Clemson game Saturday as punishment each team is going to decline their chance at going to a bowl. I really hate it for you guys cuz yall had a good season and deserve a chance to play one more. I also hate it for Lou Holtz cuz him going out with a loss like that and a fight isnt right in my opinion, he deserves one more game and to go out without a fight in his ball game.

I believe the pieces are in place as well. I also think Steve Spurrier can attract the skill people we need to get the job done. I am a little older than you guys, but you too probably remember when certain other teams, once doormats, rose to power. Virginia, once a perennial 2-9 team, as well as Virginia Tech, come to mind. I even recall Florida State's as well as Miami's (formerly known as Miami Fla.---no more!) rise from oblivion.

With the facilities, money, fan base, etc. that we have (AND Steve Spurrier), I believe...I believe...I believe... [At least I hope so, don't you DeLorean?] Hope and belief, belief and hope.............................

But I ramble.............

GO COCKS!

I'm not hoping. I have a "gut" feeling about this Spurrier thing. I think given the talent that he has returning, I am expecting USC to turn some heads next year.

I tell ya one thing with all this going on and with Spurrier back the SEC is def gonna continue to be the premier confrense in the country. Always a threat to win a national title and now with Spurrier back in the confrense we have another potential national power team comin out of the SEC. YOu just gotta love a confrense like this lol :D

YEP!!!

Can you imagine this as a cover of SI for next year:

The Untouchables
Richt, Fulmer, Spurrier and Davis. (Assuming that Butch accepts the FL job.)

Have a pic of them standing there with their arms crossed.

Hey, like I said in another thread, all we needed this year was an ADEQUATE offense to have had a spectacular year. Even one more TD per game would have netted 8 wins, and you saw our defense fold again this year due to lack of offensive zip.

SOS should be able to field an offense that is MORE than adequate. [Do you think he'll retain Minter?]

Hardie
11-28-2004, 07:06 AM
I know what you are sayin there rabid... Alabama had that same problem. Our defense was great but the lack of points from the offense ultimately cost us a few games.

11-28-2004, 07:13 AM
Hardie, I agree----what an awesome defense you guys had this year. We had our best game of the year against you guys (unfortunately, I feel we peaked in this game), but it was all downhill after that. Our defense folded for unapparent reasons, unless it was as simple as discovering we had no way of defending a pass up the middle.

Enough said.............................

Hardie

SC played a great game against us and yall totally deserved that victory. Yalls defense played every bit as well as ours that game and yalls offense did just enough to get yall above 20 points. I think if yall would have played every game like yall played GEorgia and Alabama yall wouldnt have lost but maybe 2 - 3 games.
