Is any other Vol fan getting as fed up with the lack of offensive identity as I am? Through 3 games it looked like we were actually getting back to Tennessee football with the rushing game. We led the SEC in rushing (granted against inferior competition) going into the weekend, so what do we do in a big game against Auburn? First 3 plays...pass, pass, pass!! Makes perfect since to me. Especially considering the wealth of experience we have at the QB position. For several years now, our coaches have gotten "too cute" and have outsmarted themselves in big games. We have a great offensive line (although Munoz might be the most over-rated lineman in history), and a great stable of running backs. Why the hell aren't we imposing our will? It's like the coaches were predisposed with the notion that Auburn was going to try to stack the line to stop the run, so they were conceding to this notion by trying to pass. I'm sorry, but that's poor coaching. If you're not going into the game with the confidence that you are going to be able to do what you do best, then you've already lost. You can't recruit and build Tennessee football predicated on the run and try to be something you're not by relying on the pass, especially this year. It has been well documented for several years that Fulmer and Sanders do not see eye to eye about offensive philosophy. If that is the case, and it certainly would seem to be, how many average seasons and crappy Peach Bowls are we going to have to endure before a change is made? It's fairly evident that we still have the talent, we just need an identity. 8-3 = mediocrity!!
