I am encouraged by the win against Bama. For a couple of reasons.
1.) Troy

They shut him down. He had no catches. One of the things I have been hearing is that we were one dimensional. With out Troy's big plays we wouldn't win. Well, this game proves we can win in more than one way. If we add Troys big play ability we are truly a mult-threat team.

2.) Culture

This is two parts. A.) Normally we lose games like this. Close games in which we make some mistakes. A sign of a good team is finding a way to win. We did. B.) Fred's INT. After Syvelle threw the INT, He walked back over to the sideline and Fred came up and said something to the effect of "Cheer up, I'm going to get the ball back for you". That attitude has been missing from Carolina for a long time. To expect to do great things. We need that. He went out got the INT and told Syvelle, "Now get me a touchdown". Syvelle did.

3.) The score could have been much worse. We turned the ball over twice while threatening a score. Turning the ball over is something that can be fixed. So, we have the potential to score in the 30s everytime out.

4.) Georgia is a big time team. We may not be on the level with them yet. But judging from the way they beat LSU neither is anyone else. This means (to me) that we very nearily beat an extremely powerful team. We could win out. Even if we don't and we lose to Florida and Tennessee (unless Tennessee plays like they did this weekend. ) we would still be 8 and 3. Not too shabby.

THis is a big shift for us. Let's ride it.

After the win Saturday, I believe South Carolina has a good chance of going 10-1 or at the worse 9-2. You guys are going to beat Florida and should beat Tennessee with them coming to Columbia.

I agree. This could be a really great year for the Cocks! Florida will be tough, but you should beat the Vols this year in Columbia. I think 10-1 is very realistic...9-2 at worse. How good does that close loss to Georgia look, now?

??, I sense the sarcasm Volimhtown. Just so you know I'm taking every game as a serious threat(minus KY) b/c of the past two years. You do have to admit that we have a shot at beating you though, we've lost by a total of 21 points over the past 4 years and took you guys to overtime last year. We do have a legit shot, and we only lost to UF last year by 2, so like I said it's not impossible for us to finish 9-2, highly unlikely but not impossible....

Sarcasm??? I was being dead derious! SC looks much better than my Vols do. You guys ran all over us last year in Knoxville and should have won that game. I didn't mean to come across as being sarcastic. As far as the Georgia comment, what I meant was for you guys to have played Georgia so tough now looks really impresive. Look what they did to LSU...and LSU was MUCH more touted coming into the year than the Cocks! Seriously, I felt that the TN/AU game would be the swing game for us to have a successful year much like I felt that the SC/AL game would be for you guys. SC beating AL really sends a message that they are in the mix in the east. I think that FL will be tougher than TN for the Cocks, though. Columbia, at night, the day before Halloween....sounds like too much for a young Vols team!

I have never heard of a Ga fan giving a complement about the Gamecocks.
It is refreshing, by the way good game last weekend against LSU. GA looks like a different team now.

I am a HUGE UGA fan. In fact, I got a little bit pissed at the rest of the fellows in this forum for dogging my DAWGS! I know UGA didn't play that well against the first three teams, but it takes a team some time to gel. Thank God, we gelled just in time. Hopefully, we can keep it going the rest of the season. I saw some mock BCS standings and if UGA wins out, they will beat out USC and play Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl.

As for Carolina, I give credit where credit is due. I sweated bullets in 2002 when we played them in Columbia and I was about to go get my 12 gage a couple weeks ago. I do believe Carolina is for real. However, I myself and I know all of you Cock fans would feel better if Carolina could score some points in the second half. Only 17 points all year in the second half. Carolina needs to improve on this. According to that stat, if Carolina ever goes into halftime trailing, they can kiss it goodbye.

I wouldn't worry though. I think Syvelle Newton is going to start getting a lot more snaps and the points drought is going to go away by the time Carolina plays Florida and Tennessee.

exactly with Dondrial out, there shouldn't be a drought anymore, he was the reason for the drought. Sorry about that Vol, I just thought you were dogging us, thanks for the compliment. I'm excited for the UT game, that's gonna be huge here in Columbia. I agree that Florida will be the toughest test by far this season but hopefully they might be looking ahead when they play us....
