I picked up my first loss in my games of interest. Arkansas decided to actually play after getting stomped in the 2nd quarter by Florida. But, in the end, it wasn't enough and my record for the Games of Interest for the season is 7-1. Not bad. I also did a "Just for Kicks" section where I just predict who will win. I do not do any studying of any kinds on these games, I just pick who I think will win. If we count that as well, my record is so far is 10-2.
Hope everyone is beginning to see that I know a little bit.
Ok, for my comments........
Let's just get this out of the way first. Arkansas, you've got to play 4 quarters instead of 1. You let yourselves and your fans down by losing in the fashion that you did. Florida, you've got some work to do. You have to put teams away and not let them score at will on you in the 4th quarter. With LSU, Auburn, and UGA ahead of you, it could get ugly and Ron Zook could be out of a job.
Tennessee/Auburn
I was suprised that no one gave Auburn a chance in this game. Even the ESPN analysts said that Auburn wouldn't be able to beat Tennessee in Knoxville. I know what you are all thinking, Corso did pick Auburn, but he did that to spite the crowd. Earlier in the show, he stated that he expected Tennessee to win the game. Auburn ran it down Tennessee's throat and the defense exposed Tennessee's freshman QB's. But, as Corso would say, Not so fast my friend !!. Before we go and give Auburn praise about destroying Tennessee. Let's look at the game. Auburn's running game opened up their passing game making Tennessee play man coverage on the outside and zone coverage in the middle of the field. Most of Jason Campbell's passes were to the middle of the field or short out routes on man coverage. A modest game plan that got the job done, but not impressive against a young and inexperienced secondary that Tennessee has. Campbell shouldn't have needed the running game if he is all that great. If Tennessee would have stopped Auburn's two bruising backs, Campbell would have had to work a little to complete those passes. As for Tennessee, good luck next week in Athens, you are going to need it.
South Carolina/Alabama
Great win for South Carolina! They controlled the clock and ran the ball very well. I have to harp on South Carolina for one thing though. 0 points in the 4th quarter. It is going to kill this team in big games if they cannot finish teams off. Granted Alabama was down and out before this, but you play how you practice and game situations are perfect practice oppurtunities for your team in later games.
UGA/LSU
Not going to go into detail with this game. There was nothing LSU could do to stop the Dawgs. If you read my expectations part of my intro to Games of Interest, what to expect was exactly what happened. Except for the part where UGA scored 45 points on the 5th best defense in the nation.
Alright, had a blast this weekend and can't wait till next. If I left something out, let me know... see you next week with another Games of Interest post.
Hope everyone is beginning to see that I know a little bit.
